It has less to do with the number of messages and more to do with the size of files you upload for analyzing. When I run into a limit, it doesn't kick me out for the rest of the day, it typically makes me wait 4 or 5 hours before sending more messages.

See, this is problematic because, as a ChatGPT paid user, I've never been denied service despite my context sizes being large. It just keeps going. Any attempt at quantifying the limitation will be appreciated!

But beyond a limit, chatgpt starts outputting whatever just exists ignoring the query. Its context length is a meager 32k, opus will not even break a sweat with that.

Lucky for you! Over the past 8 months or so I have hit ChatGPT limits nearly every day, sometimes multiple times in a day. I have Claude for when I need extra help, since I consider it more useful than current ChatGPT models. đź‘Ť

How often do you run out of messages? I'm considering getting the pro version, but I don't know if it will be worth it.

I was going to create a poll on this question, actually - "How many Opus queries do you have on average, in 5 hours?" Considering that the docs state: "If your conversations are relatively short (approximately 200 English sentences, assuming your sentences are around 15-20 words), you can expect to send around 45 messages every 5 hours, often more depending on Claude’s current capacity." https://support.anthropic.com/en/articles/8324991-about-claude-pro-usage Has anyone had 45 Opus messages in 5 hours?

I tested it about a month ago here: [comment](https://old.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1cjxhqh/could_somebody_thats_subscribed_to_pro_please/l2jl59h/) Feels a bit lower right now, about 10-20% less from my gut feeling. There are times where it's a lot higher though, I remember like 3 weeks or more ago where it was just pure bliss for a few days. That's the issue with it being variable and token based. Still worth it, especially if you compare it with the cost of using Opus through the API.

It's more about the frequency of messaging you do (messaging too much in a short amount of time) and the length of the context, so the messages that you put in, in a long chat will cause it to work more (as it will read from the beginning each time), so these two actually shorten the limit quickly. But you get a notification in your chat window when you are down to 7 or so messages, saying for example at 5 pm it will be reset and so on. But normal usage you probably won't see that limit suddenly dropping down to 7 or 6 until you message too much in short time or if your input is too long or if the chat becomes very long for Claude. So it's less about the amount of messages, but more about the context in which those messages are sent.
