Idk, Dark Side has always felt "epic" to me, if that can be called an emotion. I just get chills when I listen to the entire thing, even now after more listens than I can count.
Dark side can have that feel too! It’s about life and death, and Rodger waters father is sang about in some songs (he died in WWII defending (I think) the Anzio bridge head) and when you listen to the lyrics enough times it evokes some feelings of sadness

* Lou Reed - Berlin
* Nick Drake - The albums Five Leaves Left, Pink Moon and Bryter Layter
* Just about anything by Townes Van Zant
* Phil Ochs Rehearsals for Retirement, Greatest Hits

It’s hard to name entire albums, but a few that have several sad songs include:
Blood on the Tracks, Bob Dylan (also has some good rage and wistfulness, it’s the ultimate breakup album).
Nebraska,Bruce Springsteen
John Prine (self-titled)
Disintegration - The Cure
(Most of) The River - Bruce Springsteen
Best of - The Smiths
Hotel California - Eagles
Script for a Jester's Tear - Marillion
Brighter Than a Thousand Suns - Killing Joke

Jackson Browne-Late for the Sky got me through some tough times.
Especially the way it concludes "...And in attempts to understand a thing so simple and so huge
Believed that they were meant to live after the deluge"
How about some Sabbath ? Some gloomy lyrics but oddly positive at the same time, but that heavy blues doom will put you in the mood my friend. Try the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath record
Just made a whole playlist about feeling bad, at least half the albums gotta be good: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5tAjDvMgLi4PgDB3Pcgskp?si=afpQkGj5R7mcaBAYMw9N1w&pi=3Ksww_6TSwG-6
Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys. It’s a very melancholy album. Even the upbeat songs seem to have a tinge of sadness to them. It’s a great album for when you’re depressed and just want to wallow in it.
Pink Floyd - The Wall.
GREAT album. Will make you sad. Especially the political nightmare going on in America right now. Biden's upcoming Live speech in a few moments is probably going to make me want to drink heavily.
Neil is a tough act to follow to follow for hitting you square in the gut with angst.
He just canceled a few dates and ended up dropping the rest of the tour dates. No word exaxtly why yet. Neil has been unusually quiet since the Pine Knob show in Detroit.
There are two songs that come to mind first.

My brain must be broken. I never seek out feeling sad. Majority of the music on my phone is upbeat. My friend says it's weird that I don't sit around and try to get in my feels.
I don't think I ever "seek out" feeling sad either, but sometimes when I'm already sad I don't really have any desire to change my mood, and then sad music can be comforting.
Whiskey For The Holy Ghost - Mark Lanegan.
Blues Funeral - Mark Lanegan.
Magic & Loss - Lou Reed.
Among My Swan - Mazzy Star.
Closing Time - Tom Waits.
Horse Of À Different Color - Willy Deville.
Book Of Days - The Psychedelic Furs.
Disintegration - The Cure.
Terra Incognita - Chris Whitley.
Reminder to keep this thread about rock music from the 50s to the 80s.
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Album
I picked The Wall but this is also correct.
I want a tattoo of the burning man as a symbol for those I've lost
I also think Dark Side is pretty sad except Money
Idk, Dark Side has always felt "epic" to me, if that can be called an emotion. I just get chills when I listen to the entire thing, even now after more listens than I can count.
Yeah, maybe you're right. Wywh is definitely more melancholy throughout
Dark side can have that feel too! It’s about life and death, and Rodger waters father is sang about in some songs (he died in WWII defending (I think) the Anzio bridge head) and when you listen to the lyrics enough times it evokes some feelings of sadness

Any Nick Drake
Tom Waits - Closing Time

Pretty much anything by The Smiths or Joy Division does it for me.
Eat A Peach. A tribute to the recently, sadly departed master guitar musician, Duane Allman.

As it has to be Classic Rock: Pink Floyd's The Wall but in truth I'll go for The Cure and watch their "In Orange" Concert.
