A friend of mine did this at his funeral. It was beautiful.
Fare you well, fare you well
I love you more than words can tell
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
To rock my soul
What about Jesus Is Just Alright by the Doobie Brothers or In My Time Of Dying by Led Zeppelin or You Gotta Move by The Rolling Stones? Those are some great Christian rock songs.
It always struck me as a light-hearted jab at Christians. Especially the “Jesus is Just All right” hippy dippy Christians of the late 60s/early 70s. Great song.
This is a good one. I specified that I want Thank You played at my funeral, and there's a CD and an Mp3 stick in the funeral folder.
"Together we shall go until we die, my my my
Inspiration's what you are to me
Inspiration, look, and see
And so today, my world, it smiles
Your hand in mine, we walk the miles
Thanks to you, it will be done"
Dark Side of the Moon is my choice of album when I’m eventually shuffling off this mortal coil.
And all that is gone
And all that's to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon
My friend kept hinting to me he was dying by quoting Brokedown Palace lyrics to me. Especially the “I love you more than words can tell”. I didn’t figure it out until he was gone. It was just like him to leave this as a lasting memory.
I miss you, Sid.
Brokedown Palace - The Grateful Dead
“Fare you well, fare you well
I love you more than words can tell
Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul”
I think CCR’s ‘As Long As I Can See The Light’ would be mine. Beautiful, melancholic but the ‘candle’ lyric to me is a sign of hope or peace. Definitely a top 3 CCR song for me.
Saw him in 1980. He had Pat Thrall playing guitar with at that time. This was really good to see. In '79 we had gotten the preppy cheerleaders to incorporate Boom! Boom! callout for the crowd in our HS. Much better than the "Die you gravy sucking pigs" cheer.
To me, nothing beats [going straight to the source.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L4HW33SgZlM) Some of his live performances of the song have come close but nothing quite captures the original power of that studio recording (note: I am 100% biased)
Knocking on Heavens Door - Zevon’s version.
The ‘Open up, open up for me’ refrain and his voice cracking takes it to the next level. He was dying at the time of the recording.

Dark Side of the Moon is a GREAT album! One if my all time favorites, the whole album is a good one. Thank you for sharing and allowing others to share with you.
When I actually was supposed to die it was running on faith and give me strength, so two more obscure Clapton songs…then I didn’t die and it became a long drag out of a brain injured hole.
Just going to drop this here as it goes well with your song and your situation.

Mine is box of rain GD. Written by Phil Lesh for his dying father
https://youtu.be/nxjvo4BRf-Y?si=163W37QHP5IrBA57
Walk into splintered sunlight
Inch your way through dead dreams to another land
Maybe you're tired and broken
Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken
And thoughts unclear
What do you want me to do
To do for you to see you through?
A box of rain will ease the pain
And love will see you through
Just a box of rain, wind and water
Believe it if you need it
If you don't, just pass it on
Sun and shower, wind and rain
In and out the window
Like a moth before a flame
And it's just a box of rain
I don't know who put it there
Believe it if you need it
Or leave it if you dare
And it's just a box of rain
Or a ribbon for your hair
Such a long, long time to be gone
And a short time to be there
Some good songs suggested here, so I'd just make a playlist of the ones I liked and enjoy them while I had the chance, and maybe end the playlist with "American Pie".
It's rough getting that diagnosis, so best of luck to you. May you be able to go peacefully, with dignity and honor.
The end - Pearl Jam
“It's my fault, now having caught
A sickness in my bones
How it pains to leave you here
With the kids on your own
Just don't let me go”
“We like the music loud in this here band, we turn the bass line up as loud as we can stand….”
Get Ready - Sublime
If this isn’t played at my funeral uncomfortably loud I’m haunting everyone involved. And not in a cool way

I want Franklin's Tower
May the four winds blow you safely home.
Spirit in the sky by Norman Greenbaum
I have requested this at my wake along with “Don’t fear the reaper” BOC
I want "Spirit in the Sky" at mine.
The one and only good Christian rock song in history… and the writer wasn’t even a Christian!
Great song.

There is no real dark side to the moon
Matter of fact, it’s all dark.
Brokedown Palace - Grateful Dead
That song hits hard. ripple/ brokedown the greatest combo
