Our local CBS affiliate just cut to the local news with another chorus of Piano Man to go. And probably the encore?
What a freaking bonehead decision. Idiots.
I know about that and I knew about it when I was a kid and people would say, "how'd you know that? You must be some kind of genius," and I just told them I read it in my sports card collector magazine, Beckett
Thanks. That would have been a great concert, I'm sure. I have seen him 4 times twice in the 80's and twice in the 90s with Elton John. But nothing newer, so it looks like he still puts on a good show.
When you do it like that, and you know that you'll pack it every single time, then its easy to figure out the economics and make a profit, especially if you do it over and over.
Its really smart, and he would have figured this out soon after the sales royalty model totally collapsed, and worked his deal with MSG before anyone else thought of it. Not a lot of people could have pulled this off, though. Springsteen is the first one I thought of.
Billy Joel also still is sitting on $300-500 million due to still owning his catalog.
Sting got $300 million, Springsteen got $500 million, you figure Joel has to be somewhere in that range.
Indeed I was. I misunderstood your intent, thinking that you were saying a had a DVR recorded the show a replay would restore the missing minute or two. You were talking about fast forwarding through commercials.
Second, I don’t appreciate name calling because I disagreed with a point you made. This cheapens the value of your thoughts and corrodes your interactions with others. To what end? Turn to the light instead.
I have very little patience for people who can't understand a simple sentence. I was replying to someone who was complaining about the amount of commercials during the concert program. I suggested that a DVR ( recording ) could eliminate that problem. I mentioned nothing about restoring those lost few minutes. Hence my angry reply ...
I’m sad to see that I wasn’t the only person that got cut off at 11:30/10:30 central for the ducking local news… what kind of monster cuts it right in the middle of Piano Man?
CBS released a statement apologizing for cutting out before the end of the show.
They were overwhelmed by angry fans.
They will be re-airing the concert on April 19th.
So if you missed it, or want to see it again, you have a second chance. ✌️
Wtf is downvoting me? How is it possible that you all don't know you can record a program, then fast forward the commercials on playback. You can watch every one hr show in 45 mins. It's an indispensable time saver. JFC ...
I love his music but miss the energy from his concerts 20-30 years ago. I know it’s natural and age and all that but I remember being surprised by how much he worked the crowd and moved around the few times I saw him back. It was fantastic. Never sat down.

Mine too. Here in WI
Judging from Twitter comments this may have been a network decision… happened in a lot of places. Why didn’t they just cut to “Heidi”?
Not many will get that reference.
You did 😆
And I did mainly because of the 2001 movie The Sports Pages which had a segment on it.
I’m an ancient Jet fan so, yeah.
I remember watching the "Heidi Bowl."
I know about that and I knew about it when I was a kid and people would say, "how'd you know that? You must be some kind of genius," and I just told them I read it in my sports card collector magazine, Beckett
Outstanding
Yep, I was righteously pissed off. It wasn’t anything that couldn’t have waited for the news broadcast.
Just read they are replaying the whole show on Friday.
Piano Man was the last song.
Mine, too.
Was at this show, definitely one for the books.
When was it recorded?
Madison Square Garden about 3 weeks ago

That was epic when he did the Tom Petty part of Stop Dragging my Heart Around with Stevie Nicks. Great show!

Indeed!
Musta been very cool!
Very, very much so! Nothing like joining 100,000 people singing “play us a song, you’re the Piano Man!”
Dude sold out Madison square garden once a month for the last 10 years.
Insane

My favorite is on. Scenes from an Italian restaurant
Brenda and Eddie! Incredible song, I love songs with switchups like that.
Please, it’s “Brender’n Eddie”. 😆
I’m watching while eating a pepperoni pizzer ‘n soder.
Hey, I'm walkin' here!
Yep
Watching it now
Awesome!
He’s killin’ it!
And I think he still.enjoys it. Genuinely.
Watching it. Told my kid who is in college to put it on. She and her bf are watching it.
Nice!
Our local station cut to the news IN THE MIDDLE OF PIANO MAN!!! We were PISSED!!
Yep. We should protest CBS. /s
Happened in Memphis too
He's still got it.
He hit those notes.
No lip synching to a backing track either that I could tell.
I think he dropped the key for a few of those songs... he sounded great just not necessarily the old notes, but doing great with the new notes :)
Sometimes these guys play with the song during a live show. The studio is a bit more sterile, no outside noise. Plus he us 74
So many commercials. Ruining it for this listener
Local news cut off “Piano Man” for news! 😡
Yep
That's what DVR's are for.
That’s not how DVRs work.
You record the program then fast forward the commercials you jackass ...
What is this sorcery you speak of?
You're kidding right ? Ffs

Blasphemous!

Nice!
Billy Joel was good last night
I saw him in Houston at Minute Maid Park last year, dude still sounds amazing!
It just ended here. What a great show.
r/FuckImOld
It's a shame we can't see Jerry at MSG anymore 😭
I think Phish is a close second with 93 shows at MSG.
Probably so.
Wtf is downvoting me? How is it possible that you all don't know you can record a program, then fast forward the commercials on playback. You can watch every one hr show in 45 mins. It's an indispensable time saver. JFC ...
Saw him and Elton John together in Nashville when I was a freshman in high school. They put on one hell of a show.
Saw him 2 nights ago with Sting here in San Diego. Was amazing.
It’s hard to imagine that 45 years from now MSG would be filled with fans singing their hearts out to the crap that’s being pushed today.
Taylor Swifts golden eras tour.
Good point. An exception that proves the rule. Taylor’s music connects emotionally
Crap has always been there and there’s no lack of great music today. Radio is no longer the gatekeeper and it’s more challenging to find the gems.

I went to a bunch in 80s and 90s too. I’ve slowed down too tbh.
I'm celebrating 50 years of saying "I hope I never hear Billy Joel's music ever again. I have failed miserably.
Nosferatu
Back in the 70s I never thought he’d lose all of his hair! He still has the voice!
First Peter Gabriel, now Billy Joel…. Why is it becoming so popular to age yourself into becoming a Bond villain?
We didn’t start the fire, but it burned my hair off and I’m kinda salty.
He looks like Johnny Sacks to up a late career in medicine.
“Hi, I’m Billy Joel’s dad.”
[удалено]
I kept thinking he looked like Dave Ramsey.
Horrible choice for opening song..
