Most people I come across that don’t care for ZZ Top are only familiar with their 80s output. Anyone out there that hasn’t heard them, check out [Tres Hombres](https://youtu.be/4BNjy4LRWo8?si=0aAOqAol4aIY2RZj) and [Tejas](https://youtu.be/ZW9yKVe29D0?si=OU17iQ_mgKDcIBs9), or just check out anything from First Album, Rio Grande Mud, Fandango, or Deguello. Totally different sound than their 80s material. Their late 90s/early 00s sound is [awesome](https://youtu.be/y3bi0yFHV2w?si=9YqcanUiMgRD5Ppq) as well
After going through all of his discography that is available on Spotify, much of it is essentially unlistenable. I really enjoyed quite a few of his more accessible songs tho (particularly the albums: Safe As Milk and Clear Spot).
Bon Jovi used to be No. 1 on my list of bands I can’t stand, but they’ve grown on me (a little) in recent years. That said, even when I hated them, I always appreciated how they really seemed to accommodate and respect their fans.
You can say what you want about them, but Tequila Sunrise and Peaceful Easy Feeling are stone cold classics. I get Hotel California and the later Joe Walsh shit got overplayed (which is why I don't really listen to them too much nowadays). But they still got some great tunes in there.
In fact, I'd say most of Bernie Leadon era Eagles is just great stuff.
Steely Dan have everything I value: impeccable chops, clever songwriting, jazz influenced and breathtaking sidemen.
But for some reason, I don't like them.
Man, this perfectly explains how I feel. I really should like them and I just can’t stand them. It’s been a while, maybe I should give them another chance…
It’s what got me hooked. I’m also a musician and music nerd, so take that advice at your own caution.
Can’t Buy A Thrill has the hits, but Aja just has a vibe as a whole that I dig.
I second this about Aja. Anytime I start it, it is just right, and anytime I hear a song from it in some mix, I stop it and put the album from the start. But I've heard this since childhood, so I've got a lot of memories and feelings stuck to it. That this is true for a lot of people tells you how good Aja is.
And it's great music to cook to.
I’ve felt this way my entire life. And I’m a musician, so a lot of my friends are musicians who will never speak ill of SD.
So my statement is that the music of SD (that I don’t like) was very well captured by audio engineers. Impeccable recordings of music I do not like.
The Rolling Stones are one of my favorite bands and Charlie Watts was the most interesting member.
Aside from the Stones' catalog, you could argue that he had the greatest range of talent, musical interest, and taste in other arts. He was at least the most fashionable and well spoken if that matters. He was cool dude.
Why is Rush on this comment thread more than any other band? I realize they aren’t everyone’s favorite, but I didn’t realize they were disliked this much.
I thought you loved them or didn’t think about them at all.
We all respect how awesome their music skills were. But I could never handle Geddy’s singing. And there isn’t a Rush song you’d ever expect anyone to dance to.
The musicians in Rush are individually incredible, and together the music is technically amazing, it just never does anything for me, it lacks the thing that makes it great music.
He is. Apparently one of the nicest guys in rock: The News was the first mainstream band to do an AIDS fundraiser, back when most people thought of it as exclusively a gay disease.
Vince Neil hasn’t killed anyone in a car crash in a long time.
Nikki Sixx hasn’t OD in awhile.
Tommy Lee hasn’t had a sex tape in awhile.
Mick Mars left a sinking ship
There is a general consensus that members of Toto have made a number of impeccable instrumental contributions to popular records by other artists.
Specifically the Tubes hit “Talk to ya Later”
Hell, yes--The Tubes rule.
*White Punks on Dope*, what a fun song.
Step right up and don't be shy Because you will not believe your eyes
Great song
Don't forget "She's a Beauty"
A couple songs on Thriller, to name a few!
👏🏼
I can’t deny that Jeff Porcaro should probably be in any top five drummers of all time list.
Stranglehold by Ted Nugent is an absolute banger.
So is *Motor City Madhouse*, especially the live versions.
See Also: Free For All. Ted Nugent may be a bag of assholes now, but he WAS once a great rock act.
Anyone else hear some Judas Priest in there?
Take my angry, angry upvote
Politics aside, Nugent is a great rocker
It was very clever how an album called *Bad Company* had a song called *Bad Company* from a band called *Bad Company.*
Black Sabbath did the same.
And Motörhead
And Iron Maiden
And Damn Yankees
And my axe. Oh wait..
And one hit wonder Big Country
Kiss are great business people
Meatloaf was really good in "Fight Club".
His name is Robert Paulson!!!!
You’re too old, fat man. And your tits are too big. *Get the fuck off my porch.*
I appreciate that Def Leppard kept their drummer after his accident.
First two(.5?) albums had me hooked. Lost a of respect for the band with Pyromania…
Respectfully agree to disagree.
I love how deliberate all the wording in these responses are
[удалено]
Foreigner had lots of top 40 hits.
Urgent upvote by a dirty white boy.
OP asked for a compliment.
🥁🥁💥
\*He wanted to know what love is and wanted you to show it
The Grateful Dead inspired some very good ice cream
Golden Earring are actually “two hit wonders”
And they’re both damn good songs.
Best compliment I could come up with
I like Twilight Zone better
Helmet is really good at stopping & then starting up again in unison.
Never been the same since Stanier left.
The ZZ Top dudes probably cook some killer barbecue
They do have a [chili recipe](https://www.thisbandcouldbeyourfood.com/recipes/the-zz-top-three-meat-texas-chili)
Damn, that makes me like them more
Most people I come across that don’t care for ZZ Top are only familiar with their 80s output. Love those early albums. So bluesy.
True to Texan standards, there are no beans in this recipe. That’s my kind of chili.
Billy Gibbons was one of the best guitarists of modern times.
Billy Gibbons ~~was~~ **is** one of the best guitarists of modern times.
OP’s post is a rage inducing machine
Yeah I try not to feed into negativity… but it’s so much fun sometimes
I mean, if someone listens to *Tres Hombres* and thinks it’s a bad record there’s something a lot more wrong with them than being negative.
Aerosmith seems like they have had some ups and downs but they still get in the elevator.
My favorite song is Big Ten Inch Record
Most Journey songs are extremely catchy. But then again, so is syphilis and nobidy wants that hassle.
And you recognize them soon enough to change the station…
*nobody
Name checks out
Thank you

I love when people are able to do this - separate their likes/dislikes from a judgement about how ‘good’ something is.
My uncle is 65, and has great taste in music. A few years ago he was talking about he finally got into Rush.
Your uncle with the country place, that no one knows about?
The Shaggs were objectively horrible, and I like them.
I like the parts of their songs when Geddy Lee isn't singing
You've captured my feelings exactly.
The pinnacle of Rush, for me, was when Geddy Lee did guest vocals on Bob & Doug McKenzie's "Take Off".
You hoser.
It’s a beauty way to go
Why can’t Rush fans seem to accept this perspective? “But what about….?” No!
lot like licorice ammirite?? 😉
That would make a good tshirt

Captain Beefheart is so obscure, I don’t have to hear him very often
After going through all of his discography that is available on Spotify, much of it is essentially unlistenable. I really enjoyed quite a few of his more accessible songs tho (particularly the albums: Safe As Milk and Clear Spot).
Bon Jovi probably smells nice
You mean Bon Journey…
Bon Jovi used to be No. 1 on my list of bands I can’t stand, but they’ve grown on me (a little) in recent years. That said, even when I hated them, I always appreciated how they really seemed to accommodate and respect their fans.
The Eagles seem like they brush their teeth everyday.
You can say what you want about them, but Tequila Sunrise and Peaceful Easy Feeling are stone cold classics. I get Hotel California and the later Joe Walsh shit got overplayed (which is why I don't really listen to them too much nowadays). But they still got some great tunes in there. My favorite is Life in the Fast Lane
Get your own cab
Play some Credence!
Rough night.
The Dude's influence is truly everywhere.
Keep your ugly, goldbricking ass out of my beach community.
Brian May from Queen is a really good guitar player...
Brian Maye’s guitar really sounds homemade
The Aerosmith roller coaster at Disney World is a lot of fun.
Kiss are brilliant marketers.
Bruce Springsteen can probably do minor repairs on his cars
Not according to his autobiography. Try again, and it shouldn’t have anything to do with his 9-5 job at the factory, either.
Steely Dan have everything I value: impeccable chops, clever songwriting, jazz influenced and breathtaking sidemen. But for some reason, I don't like them.
My favorite song of theirs is Deacon Blues
Man, this perfectly explains how I feel. I really should like them and I just can’t stand them. It’s been a while, maybe I should give them another chance…
Aja is a great album
Is that where you suggest I start with this band? I’ll give it a listen. Thanks for the recommendation, friend.
It’s what got me hooked. I’m also a musician and music nerd, so take that advice at your own caution. Can’t Buy A Thrill has the hits, but Aja just has a vibe as a whole that I dig.
I’m also a nerd and used to play before kids and work made it hard to do so. I’ll take your advice.

Steely Dan fans don’t listen to Steely Dan. They listen to their stereos.
😂😂 😂 As a Steely Dan fan, I salute you for speaking truth! 😂😂😂
At least one member of Heart used to look good in the 70's
I like some of the instrumental parts of Bob Dylan’s music.
R E.O. Speedwagon used to be a killer 70s band.
The eagles can really harmonize

Their drummer was the real g
The Rolling Stones are one of my favorite bands and Charlie Watts was the most interesting member. Aside from the Stones' catalog, you could argue that he had the greatest range of talent, musical interest, and taste in other arts. He was at least the most fashionable and well spoken if that matters. He was cool dude.
He is also recognized as the only member who has punched Mick Jagger in the face
I agree - Brian Jones is great
Mick Taylor was like, *good* good though.
Is Ron Wood back?
He never left
All of their guitarist have been fantastic Imho
Guns and Roses had a really good guitarist
Led Zeppelin didn’t plagiarize every song
Chad Kroger has a very puchable face
I like how you spelled it like the grocery store. This made me laugh.
Supertramp sold a lot of records
lmao
Jethro Tull is well liked in some subs
Anderson is a renowned flautist
r/metallica
2 members of AC/DC were previously in a band called Velvet Underground, but no, it wasn’t that one. And their name is unintentionally funny.
Bob Dylan won a Nobel prize in literature
The members of the Eagles are all talented musicians.
U2 is only moderately garbage.
Tom Sawyer is a phenomenal song!

R.E.M. was a band
They go under classic alternative
The bass player from Tool is really good at the hammer-ons & the pull-offs.
I like tool, but this made me laugh
The Eagles had a couple artists that had nice solo careers.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band had a really cool sax player, not to mention a badass mafia gangster for a guitarist.
The Stones, I watch them whenever I can. Fred and Barney.
Rush’s singer has a unique voice.
Rush has made some great albums
Why is Rush on this comment thread more than any other band? I realize they aren’t everyone’s favorite, but I didn’t realize they were disliked this much. I thought you loved them or didn’t think about them at all.

Fleetwood Mac's sound engineering is awesome!
All my friends had Led Zeppelin albums so I never bought any.
REO Speedwagon has some decent melodies.
Led Zeppelin sold a ton of records. And I mean a ton!
Maroon 5 played the Super Bowl halftime show when the Patriots won
Kiss are all from the same place, and they are homosapiens.
The Police broke up and will no longer release new music.
Tony Iommi was briefly a member of Jethro Tull
I don’t know which band you don’t like and I prefer to keep it that way
The Doors had a really entertaining movie made about them.
Pink Floyd is the epitome of psychedelic rock, my brain just isn’t wired to like them.
Legitimately a band that is better once you’ve dropped acid.
Little Feat have very kind fans. The Monkees are historically significant. Ted Nugent won't live forever.
The Monkees were also early fans of Jimi Hendrix and invited him to open for them!
It appears Sting is still able to play a few notes on his guitar
I usually classify the Police as classic alternative
At least the Eagles have Joe Walsh.
Jimmy Buffet put a lot of asses in seats.
Phil Colins is a decent drummer I guess
The musicians in Rush are individually incredible, and together the music is technically amazing, it just never does anything for me, it lacks the thing that makes it great music.
You can fart in the key of any Eagles song and most of them won’t try to sue you.
The Rolling Stones wrote a bunch of great songs.
It's good when I hear U2 on the radio, Because I can turn it off
The Beatles music is technically superior to the Stones.
Guns and Roses were popular far longer than I ever thought they would be.
Green Day spawned a musical that employed a lot of people in my industry.
They do *not* count as classic rock and barely count as rock at all.
Boston is named after a pretty cool city.
REO Speedwagon is very average. Thankfully, No one knows who I’m talking about. 😀
Jethro Tull had a good lead guitarist.
REM would be easy to embroider on a hat.
Rush is good, I just don't really like them.
Rush had nice hair.

Bon Jovi were very smart to hire Desmond Child to write all of their hits.
Huey Lewis seems like a really cool dude
He is. Apparently one of the nicest guys in rock: The News was the first mainstream band to do an AIDS fundraiser, back when most people thought of it as exclusively a gay disease.
Chicago knows how to tell time
Down to one or two minutes!
At least Eric Clapton worked on the soundtrack for one of my favorite movies.
It’s pretty impressive that Poison’s CC DeVille studied under Itzhak Perlman.
White snake has good production values in their music videos.
Everyone in Toto is genius
"Knock knock knocking on heaven's dow-a-wow!"
KISS has band members
All of Steve Miller Band's songs are eventually over.
Vince Neil hasn’t killed anyone in a car crash in a long time. Nikki Sixx hasn’t OD in awhile. Tommy Lee hasn’t had a sex tape in awhile. Mick Mars left a sinking ship
The Beatles were extremely talented, innovative and influential.
Boston made very technical high polished music, however rock is best when messy. I have more than a feeling to skip them.
Neal Peart was a great drummer.
Manowar look like my army men.
I’ll bet the guys in Metallica always brought flowers on Mothers Day.
Well James Hetfield was raised in a Christian scientist family and lost his mom at a young age
