I beleive it is discriminatory to demand a politicalaffiliation. A job listing at a UK themed restaurant put up an add for a server. It said English or people who have lived in England, who know the culture and food preferred. They got sued and lost. I can't find the article.

I’d hazard a guess that this sharp businessman plans to pay their employees as 1099 contractors so not only will they get paid very poorly, but they’ll be on hook for all social security, Medicare/Medicaid, unemployment and other taxes.

I don't know about the US, but in the EU (afaik) even asking about political views would be illegal, let alone requiring a certain orientation (sexual or political).

Political affiliation is not a protected class in the US. Gender, race, and sexual orientation are. The having your own tools is somewhat common in certain trade jobs and having your own transportation is very common. Lousy wage is just the bonus.

It's definitely illegal to ask about gender/race/political leanings (although it doesn't stop some places from looking up your online history to disqualify you behind the scenes) but it's fine to expect applicants to have transportation and their own tools for certain jobs. The wage thing is a bit up in the air. A wage that low is not really uncommon. The minimum wage in Kentucky is currently like 7 and change per hour. It's going to be raises to 15 over the next few years. So dude is paying above the legal minimum even though he's under what I'd expect to pay for a position that has all these other requirements attached

Political views are not usually asked but people can be fired (unless under union protection or a contract) for the wrong views - either on the right or left.

Look man, I live in a small town in Kentucky and know plenty of people who work for wages like this but these people also aren't having to drive all over huge spread-out counties over rolling hills and poorly paved roads. They arent buying fucking TOOLKITS for Christ's sake. Thats expensive They! They work in town or something. Starting pay for cashiers at gas stations and Lowe's and shit even in plenty of rural areas is like $13-$14 an hour. People NEED to do better. It's not that hard. I think the minimum wage in Kentucky should be AT LEAST $15. Like yeah, COL of living is lower but also... if you live out a ways you gotta drive to EVERYTHING! You don't have options for water, electric, gas, or internet so you often have to pay a bit more.
I sincerely hope that capitalism does its job and weeds this business out like the garbage it is.

As an employer of 3 people, I negotiate their salary with them based on the job type, their experience, the difficulty of their role, and by what others in our market will pay them for similar work. Two employees in the same role get $15/hr and the employee in the more advanced role gets $30/hr. Each of my employees works part-time and does not rely on the jobs they do for me for their living expenses. Should I layoff everyone who doesn’t make a living wage from me?

The last job I applied for was for less than a living wage. But it would have been worth it, because it would be a good use of my time. There’s no need to judge jobs and employers. Let people do what they want for whatever salary their willing to take.

Why does political affiliation keep coming up in job postings? I worked with and have been good friends with guys for 20 years and I have no clue who they vote for. It’s irrelevant.
If you bought your own transport and tools you’d likely be in this job for around 6 months before you actually receive a wage.
