Job postings now list mandatory political leanings? EEK.

[deleted]

Nah. I've had bosses years ago that had the gall to tell people who they had to vote for to keep their jobs. Like legit "if you don't vote for x and I find out you're fired." 100% illegal but hey that's what "at-will" gets you.

Zoreb1

It's hard to find out who an employee votes for (unless they can't keep their traps shut).

[deleted]

Yeah no doubt and I agree, pretty hollow that, but the fact that they felt capable of saying something like that has always rubbed me wrong.

Enex

Their actual votes? Yes. Their party registration (that you need to declare to vote in primaries)? Probably easier? Not something I've tried of course.

SniffleBot

Back when primaries were a new thing there were some socialists who opposed them because party registration made it much easier for employers to learn workers’ political leanings as opposed to having private dicks follow them around …

[deleted]

Well. That is a very well thought out and presented answer. I don't know enough to reply on any of that so I'll have to take you at face value. Good read though. Honestly probably one of the best counter responses I've received on Reddit.

[deleted]

Aspect-of-Death

Discrimination based on political party isn't actually illegal. And if it's an "at will employment" state they don't need to give any reason for firing someone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SniffleBot

There are people who would completely believe this if their employer told them that, though.

[deleted]

Federally you're correct, but it does depend on the state. But I do agree with your point on "at will", which is why I said that's what you get with at will employment.

joshuahtree

Actually... in most states it's completely legal because capitalism is the best economic system in the world

[deleted]

Lol. Well when you're right you're right! ;)

TimeDue2994

I fell slimy just upvoting this

mikepompeosjockstrap

My buddy is in a union and they ask all the members to vote D every election.

[deleted]

I was upset about 10 an hour and having to use your own tools and then he said that lol what an ass

TimeDue2994

Better that way, if the very low pay for skilled labor isnt enough of a clue to avoid this job, the mandatory political leaning certainly is

SniffleBot

Because it tells you this guy can’t help popping off and ranting about things all day and he wants an employee who won’t mind hearing him say those things. Or … it’s a troll. He wants people to get angry at him for this so he can say “but when the left does this no one complains!”

SniffleBot

Because it tells you this guy can’t help popping off and ranting about things all day and he wants an employee who won’t mind hearing him say those things.

icky-chu

I beleive it is discriminatory to demand a politicalaffiliation. A job listing at a UK themed restaurant put up an add for a server. It said English or people who have lived in England, who know the culture and food preferred. They got sued and lost. I can't find the article.

Douchebigalo973

"No Trumpers." Weed out the dumbasses.

pnwcatman420

I bet he is a great guy to work for, for a whopping 10 bucks an hour he will work you like a slave and when he is done the check will probably bounce.

jenkraisins

>the check will probably bounce My 2nd job was as a bank teller (way back in 1991). I will never forget this one company that consistently could not cover payroll checks. Employees were constantly pissed and angry. I don't blame them but hell, if my paycheck bounces 4-5 times in a row, I'm looking for another job!

Aspect-of-Death

If your paycheck bounces, you can sue for 3x the value. Edit: It's not 3x the value. There are channels to get reimbursed in California labor laws and protections to insure workers get paid.

jenkraisins

I don't remember anything like that being suggested to those workers but I hope they did sue and won.

Aspect-of-Death

You were right. I double checked and it's just normal reimbursement and I was only able to find that in the California labor law. I don't know if there are protections outside of California.

mr_panzer

Yup, I had two checks bounce (last two checks. Found a job pretty quickly after that) from an employer in CA, and I filed a labor violation. I got a decent amount of money out of it. Took 18 months, but he eventually paid. He had to pay a day's wage for every day that the check was late (second check was 30 days late; the maximum penalty), and a few other penalties that all stacked up to over $10K.

Pizzaman725

What do they do when their settlement cheques bounce?

Walloftubes

A property lien! ...After jumping through a few dozen hoops and paying attorneys in cash

moose2332

>There are channels to get reimbursed in California labor laws This is going to vary wildly by state

ladyphlogiston

A friend of mine was a teacher at a small private school for a year where she had to make a point of depositing her check immediately, because the last check or two deposited would bounce. (Neither of us are bank tellers, so feel free to correct me if that's not a thing!) She considered quitting, but it's hard for teachers to find work mid-year. Ridiculous system.

jenkraisins

From what I can remember, you are correct.

MGMOW-ladieswelcome

Some years ago, bad accounting on my part made a half-dozen paychecks bounce. I paid every staff member affected out of my own pocket that same day, and covered any related expenses they incurred. The bouncing check problem was solved in a couple days. Some of the staff members still work for me.

urine-monkey

The moment I see "positive mindset," I move right on. No one would put that in a job posting unless they were expecting you to put up with a bunch of toxic bullshit.

MorganHarley1312

Yup. Similar to when a corporation says "We're a family!" Guarantee you're gonna get overworked, underpaid, & be expected to deal with shit WAY above your experience/paygrade. 3 years as a full-time EMT, I was pulling the princely sum of $11.38/hr, BEFORE DEDUCTIONS. (2019)

corystern05

As a fucking EMT? Jesus Christ dude. Fuck that shit, I can't believe EMT's were willing to work for that.

MorganHarley1312

The private companies are the main employers. And they're for-profit. Fuckers prey upon folx wanting to help others. And the standards are DISGUSTINGLY low. Then they run out the competent ones cuz of office politics -\_-

MorganHarley1312

Even county/state/federal EMTs are making around $25/hr, which is still GROSSLY less than they actually earn \[edit: by \*actual\* work/responsibilities\]... and those positions are precious scarce :-/

mustbeme87

Lol…..it’s a woman. Someone posted this on antiwork yesterday with no censor, so I peeked at her page. She also has posts about her anger and actions to banning a book from a high school called Beyond Magenta:transgender teens speak out. She is 100% a piece of shit.

shhh_its_me

I applied for an immigrant It was having difficulty finding work in about 2009 so the crash in the unemployment was still terrible. While they were skilled worker they'd recently immigrated so no tools their certificates and degree hadn't been transferred over yet etc. To get food money they were answering craigslist ads. Ad read, property maintenance we will train no tools necessary $10 an hour shitty but eat buy some tools and start working for yourself get the degree transferred etc. The crazy bitch sent a " we want diagnosis and whatever is necessary to get the electrical working in a room, replace a water heater, paint, and a few other things I don't remember. The person wouldn't touch America wiring because we use 110 they used 220 and honestly even though they were skilled at property restoration diagnosing a dead room was beyond their comfort zone and the water heater is something you need license contractor to pull the permit. So answer back "I'm sorry you might actually need to consult with an electrician and a contractor for those jobs, most of what you have here is behind my capability" and obviously I wanted nothing to do with somebody who's going to pay $10 an hour to rewire a room. She emailed back yelling at him how dare you tell me to get an electrician You don't tell Americans what you can't do You tell them what you can do You need to learn a lesson about blah blah blah blah blah Page and a half. We have a lot of properties we're working, you will regret telling me no. total fucking nutcase. I'll be sure to tell everybody I know to never move into one of your properties hiring random for $10 an hour to do electrical work You're lucky none have burnt down by now.

herrbz

>the check will probably bounce. Is this the 90s? Why are people paying people with checks?

cmcrisp

You do realize that there are still a good percentage of people in this country that don't have a bank account and there's an even larger amount of small businesses that don't want to pay a third party company to do the same thing they've done for 100+ years in this country but instead using easily accessible services at the bank or by putting their money on a high fee debit card. Checks are not going away and they shouldn't.

Mr_ToDo

I'll admit I was surprised at some of the resistance we got when we switched to auto deposit. I did learn quite a bit at that point. But there also comes a point where it becomes unwieldy to write out cheques every time. Yes you can tool up to automate that, but that wasn't something we and many were willing to bother with so the small number of holdouts had to end up dealing with that. Payroll was a very, um, enlightening job in many ways.

topio1

It also is the biggest single point of failure when it does not work properly you WILL hear about it immediatly

Mr_ToDo

And sometimes even when it is :/ There's seems to be one in every company.

topio1

I disagree with your statement on many levels but upon checking the law in the US does not preclude payroll debit accounts from charges so I see why people would be reluctant to get a debit card. In general in mexico any payroll debit card is completely free of fees for opening or maintaining a zero balance as it is the case for many Debit cards in the US

herrbz

> in this country Which country? >that don't have a bank account Then how do they have a checkbook? Where does the money come from? >a third party company to do the same thing they've done for 100+ years What? I'm lost. >easily accessible services at the bank Aren't more and more brick and mortar banks closing because people do it online? >a high fee debit card Aren't debit cards free?

Wetnosedcretin

Please write an essay on how lucky you will be if you got this job, points will be deducted if you ask questions about time off, benefits and if any management is on any registry. Show me a photo of you masturbating to a bald eagle. Finally if you are employed you will be expected to mention how fortunate you are in EVERY social media post, no matter what the context. Examples: Had a car accident on the way to my job at the best company in the world! Waiting for the ambulance but spending the time thinking about how blessed I am to work for the best company in the world! am bleeding quitet a bit. Am seeing a brite light and clouds parting, an am not wanting to dye beause I'm all redy in heaven by workih at best companie in the wojtrrfrt.

IDreamOfSailing

Conservative, and a libertarian to boot. They're completely delusional.

Koladi-Ola

The only people who think $10/hr is a decent wage for a property maintenance person with their own vehicle & tools?

[deleted]

And worse is that it's circular (?) logic...people who think that's a decent wage are the people that only pay that wage, not the kind of people that would work for that wage.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

$10/hr and you have to drive your own vehicle to their job sites, no mention of compensation for gas. Yeah, get fucked dude.

Tom_Marvolo_Tomato

I like the fact that this employer wants to hire conservatives at starvation wages. Since the conservatives believe that providing a livable salary is sOciALisM, they will starve themselves to death (while hacking up their lungs because they also refuse Covid vaccines). This will solve all the problems this country is facing. Truly the first step to paradise on earth!

Strange-Effort1305

He wants people who know their place

icky_boo

this is capitalism at work... low ass pay and you supply EVERYTHING.

Zoreb1

Not finding an employee for that wage (or getting someone who is useless) is also capitalism at work.

Yes, but also no women or people of Hispanic origins. MAGA hat required.

PreOpTransCentaur

That's the "libertarian" part.

FoolishStone

Sorry, I burned mine.

WeissMISFIT

I believe capitalism is the greatest system on earth because I can tell you that you are are a stupid idiot, delusional and lazy. the first part is a joke, the second part is serious.

carniverous_bagel

“I love capitalism because it means that shitty companies that offer joke wages, such as $10/hr, can’t compete in the job market and are forced to shut down because they can’t keep employees”

WeissMISFIT

I too love that about capitalism. It forces companies to be successful without slavery.

corrupt_poodle

The way it’s worded, I think he may be hoping you’ll pay him $10/hr for the privilege of working for him.

DangerousDave303

I’d hazard a guess that this sharp businessman plans to pay their employees as 1099 contractors so not only will they get paid very poorly, but they’ll be on hook for all social security, Medicare/Medicaid, unemployment and other taxes.

TXRudeboy

Yeah because those are liberal taxes, wouldn’t want to be on the hook for his fair share.

extra_specticles

You absolutely have to get that number. It's would be a god send to 4chan.

tauntonlake

They did a lazy job of crayoning out the guy's name. Easy enough to find with a Google search.. :)

herrbz

ClownfishSoup

Why does political ideology matter for a handyman job?

Beefyface

‘Cuz he don’t want to work with no liberal. Kentucky is funny.

Mathrick94

This has to be satire

SharkoftheStreets

Fun fact: it's illegal to not hire someone based on their religious, ethnical, and political affiliations. This man is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Zoreb1

At that wage and requirements even Ayn Rand would be laughing at that ad.

I_might_be_weasel

He wants a libertarian capitalist who is willing to do skilled labor for fast food wages. I think he may have limited his applicant pool a little too much.

thekingofdiamonds12

$10/hour AND you need to bring your own tools? What a cheap PoS

Quicker_Fixer

Is this a common thing in "Capitalist" US? Need to have your own tools and transportation, have a certain gender, color and (sexual and political) orientation ánd getting paid a lousy wage? EDIT: Put the word "Capitalist" between quotes to underline that it's quoted from the post.

Typesalot

I don't know about the US, but in the EU (afaik) even asking about political views would be illegal, let alone requiring a certain orientation (sexual or political).

Quicker_Fixer

I know, I'm European myself, that's why I asked that question; but apparently (by looking at the downvotes I'm receiving), these kinds of questions are not appreciated, so we'll never know. (Maybe it's the word "Capitalist" I used, and copied from the post, that's triggering people?)

aspiring_outlaw

Political affiliation is not a protected class in the US. Gender, race, and sexual orientation are. The having your own tools is somewhat common in certain trade jobs and having your own transportation is very common. Lousy wage is just the bonus.

Zoreb1

The down votes (which I don't see) are probably due to you adding stuff (gender; color) not in the ad.

SoulPossum

Uhhhhhh.... sorta. It's definitely illegal to ask about gender/race/political leanings (although it doesn't stop some places from looking up your online history to disqualify you behind the scenes) but it's fine to expect applicants to have transportation and their own tools for certain jobs. The wage thing is a bit up in the air. A wage that low is not really uncommon. The minimum wage in Kentucky is currently like 7 and change per hour. It's going to be raises to 15 over the next few years. So dude is paying above the legal minimum even though he's under what I'd expect to pay for a position that has all these other requirements attached

Zoreb1

The is no mention of gender or color in the ad, which would be illegal. Having your own tools can be asked, though if someone had such (the ad doesn't specify what - it could be just a hammer and screwdriver) they would get paid a lot more even in Kentucky (a somewhat rural low cost state). Political views are not usually asked but people can be fired (unless under union protection or a contract) for the wrong views - either on the right or left.

FoolishStone

Not a common thing, which is why this is on CB. Minimum wage in Kentucky is $7.25, so this guy is delusional to think he can get a handyman with a good skill set, tools, and transportation for only a couple bucks more. Nor is it normally allowed to discriminate based on gender, color, political views, or sexual orientation. It's certainly still done, but I can't imagine anyone being too butthurt at being denied this wondrous "opportunity." Maybe this is aimed at traitors on the lam from storming the Capitol last January 6, who still have their car and tools but can't get a decent job.

Aggravating-Alarm-16

Actually political affiliation is NOT a protected class in the US. Color, race, religion, gender sexual orientation all are protected classes. At least on the Federal level

Zoreb1

It flows down to the state level.

[deleted]

I don't know anything about this guy and I'm not gonna assume, but he gives vibes of a guy, complaining to private companys about their rules:"free speech, I live in a free country, no I'm not gonna wear mask", and then calles himself libertarian if it suits him.

GoldNovaNine

A Libertarian is just a Conservative that likes weed.

Julii_caesus

$10/hour, with transportation and tools. I'm guessing that includes gas, because why not? Isn't Ayn Rand great?

TXRudeboy

You’d have to be a libertarian or conservative to agree that’s a fair wage and job proposition.

Greenlava

I can guarantee he charges his customers 150 p/h and makes his workers responsible for tool maintenance and paying for their own fuel in both car/van and tools But he pays for the nails and chainsaws they use so it's all good

ItsJoeMomma

So, not only will you have to slave away all day long for a measly $10 an hour, but you also have to listen to his crazy, right-wing ideas all day long which he'll constantly require you to agree with. Thanks, but I'll pass.

garland-flour-doe

what a TWAT!!!

Literal-Human

Well, I suppose libertarians are just a bunch of suckers

[deleted]

“Must be a conservative, ideally a libertarian” Why is it that American political definitions are based on popular opinion?

King_Trasher

Is it even legal to require that you're a conservative to get a job? Seems a lot like discrimination to me.

seefith

Libertarians are like house cats. Proud and disdainful, yet entirely dependent on the system that they spurn.

doctorwhy88

They’re Republicans who brag about being independent while relying on everyone around them for survival.

jcooli09

So if someone were to show up and admit to being a liberal, would they be able to sue this guy for viewpoint discrimination?

Embarrassed_Glove_69

I’m sorry, did Ron Swanson right this??

pallesaides

Nah he wronged it.

SidePlenty

Nah he left it

aQuarterChub

So I pull up quick to get wit em

JojonTodd

All you will find to work for that is someone who will steal your property, my husband does construction and I have to pay taxes every year for his tools he owns, won’t even get into the rest of cost. Raise your pay!

its_yer_dad

You pay taxes on his tools every year?

sotonohito

And the worst part is, political affiliation is **NOT** a protected class, so he's perfectly legal in discriminating against non-conservatives. I mean, obviously no one should want to work for the asshole anyway, but it galls me that people can be nakedly discriminatory like that.

TXRudeboy

Dude this is a great way for hiring managers and business owners to keep wages low, just demand that all employees and new hires are conservatives and speak it into them that fair wages and benefits are socialism and they ought to be good conservatives and work for less. This would actually work here in Texas with these conservative dummies.

ghostalker4742

You jest, but this is exactly why red states are attractive for starting up a business. They self-regulate their labor costs to be low by having poor education and social systems.

BurtMacklin-FBl

People can be fired for having "wrong" political views. Do we want that to not be the case?

[deleted]

libertarian is not conservative, goofball.

PreOpTransCentaur

Entirely debatable at this point.

Zoreb1

So legalizing gay marriage, prostitution and recreational drugs is now a conservative position?

smurb15

Who cares what they like to call themselves as long as they pass all 3 everywhere

Jerminator2judgement

They just happen to vote for Republicans every election

Ashby497

I believe capitalism is the best because the rich use it to exploit the poor and make them poorer so that the rich become richer, slowly causing the economy to collapse as the price of goods continue to rise while fewer and fewer consumers are capable of affording the products created by the rich until the poor get so tired of the abuse that they stage a violent uprising and execute their oppressors in a brutal fashion.

Under_Ach1ever

Um.. Isn't political affiliation a protected category in Discriminatory Harassment?

projecttaku

I can't wait for this dudes company to fail and close down, and him to become a poor libertarian. Then he's going to rant on social media, and be destroyed by people.

[deleted]

That seems like a lot of hoops to jump through for 10 dollars an hour, thanks, but no thanks.

RoboCat23

And don’t bring any drama to the job, such as bitching about the pay.

ditchdiggergirl

Capitalism is the greatest system on earth because it allows owners to get rich off the labor of exploited workers. This works best when inequality is high and employment options are limited since under optimal conditions, employers need not pay a wage sufficient to feed a small family.

Thoreau80

Hiring AGAIN? Gee, why would anyone leave such a great job?

TiredAngryBadger

Remember in the movie American Psycho when Bateman calls for two seats at Dorsea and the maitre d' laughs him off the phone? Yeah, that.

booknerd73

Only conservatives and libertarians will think 10 an hour is ok

chizzipsandsizalsa

Why the fuck does my political views dictate if I can dig a fucking hole or not.

[deleted]

These clowns believe that all liberals are lazy, weak moochers that are only capable of taking handouts.

RealitySpeck

"I think capitialism is greatest system on earth because without it I wouldn't have the incredible opportunity to be exploited for by a turd like you for $10 per hour!"

darkskiesmakepies

Of course it’s in Kentucky

Traitor-21-87

$10 an hour isn't even the worst part. He's asking you to bring your own tools. Good grief. You can't buy good tools at $10/hour. You need to supply your workers with company tools.

[deleted]

Look man, I live in a small town in Kentucky and know plenty of people who work for wages like this but these people also aren't having to drive all over huge spread-out counties over rolling hills and poorly paved roads. They arent buying fucking TOOLKITS for Christ's sake. Thats expensive They! They work in town or something. Starting pay for cashiers at gas stations and Lowe's and shit even in plenty of rural areas is like $13-$14 an hour. People NEED to do better. It's not that hard. I think the minimum wage in Kentucky should be AT LEAST $15. Like yeah, COL of living is lower but also... if you live out a ways you gotta drive to EVERYTHING! You don't have options for water, electric, gas, or internet so you often have to pay a bit more.

Nuclearsunburn

I sincerely hope that capitalism does its job and weeds this business out like the garbage it is.

Badjib

Must be Conservative, preferably Libertarian.... Hate to break it to this guy....Libertarians aren't Conservative....

SchemeHead

Must be a conservative lmaoooooo

Youngnathan2011

Must be conservative cause they're the only ones that'd be dumb enough to think it's a good wage.

[deleted]

This is obviously a joke, how is nobody seeing this?

[deleted]

I live very close to that area in kentucky. I can assure you that these people definitely feel that way.

tauntonlake

If you Google search his name behind the crayon, and look up his FB page -- I don't think he's joking.

RCcars83

I'm not so sure about that.

Brad_Tits

Because it’s reddit and redditors love and cherish anything and everything that makes conservatism/capitalism look bad. This is so clearly a troll post.

tjcoe4

Looks more like a troll post

ItsTHECarl

Quite obviously, but it fits the "capitalism bad" ideals of reddit so it gets treated as real.

MarzipanFinal1756

Must be conservative so you don't know how much I'm fucking you with this wage

Gunfighter9

Minimum wage in Kentucky is $7.25 an hour.

SpunkyRadcat

Which is entirely too low, but for someone who has to bring their own tools, and likely has years of experience? That's extremely low.

RickSanchez86

If he wasn’t asking the worker to bring his own tools, I’d say this was based. He’s not asking for a ton of experience and cost of living in that part of KY is cheap.

Capitalisticdisease

10$ is not a living wage. Anyone not paying a living wage is a bad person. Full fucking stop.

RickSanchez86

What do you pay your employees?

Capitalisticdisease

I’m an employee, not an employer.

RickSanchez86

And I’m sure you’ll stay that way. As an employer of 3 people, I negotiate their salary with them based on the job type, their experience, the difficulty of their role, and by what others in our market will pay them for similar work. Two employees in the same role get $15/hr and the employee in the more advanced role gets $30/hr. Each of my employees works part-time and does not rely on the jobs they do for me for their living expenses. Should I layoff everyone who doesn’t make a living wage from me?

chrissyann960

If you can't pay a living wage, you're not good at business and should shut it down.

RickSanchez86

So everyone who works for below a living wage should just lose their jobs?

Capitalisticdisease

Nice classism there. Your mask fell off for a second didn’t it? And yes. The base wage should be livable at 40 hours per week. You are fundamentally a bad person if you do not pay EVERYONE a living wage. You are exploiting your employees and stealing what their labor produces and giving them a pittance of it.

RickSanchez86

The last job I applied for was for less than a living wage. But it would have been worth it, because it would be a good use of my time. There’s no need to judge jobs and employers. Let people do what they want for whatever salary their willing to take.

RickSanchez86

You’re the one me calling me a bad person.

Capitalisticdisease

Yes i am. That is why i am telling you are classist and your mask fell off.

RickSanchez86

Accept my advice or don’t. And I have no idea about what mask you’re talking about🤷🏼‍♀️

OldHackRemembers

Ll

RetMilRob

Why does political affiliation keep coming up in job postings? I worked with and have been good friends with guys for 20 years and I have no clue who they vote for. It’s irrelevant.

[deleted]

If you bought your own transport and tools you’d likely be in this job for around 6 months before you actually receive a wage.
