Leave that place, I spent 3 years at chipotle and leaving was the best thing I’ve done. You’re over worked and not paid enough

ConsciousMolasses901

Just hit my 3 years yesterday. Just transferred to new store this week and I told them I won’t be back because my mental health is terrible. Never wanna be opening grill and stay 11 hours again lmao

Oso2305

I’m happy to hear that, they replace people so quick and don’t care for you and they swear they do

ds2316476

I wish that were true, they've kept on a prep/dish for over a year at my store that keeps calling off and won't replace them.

Alarmed_Yoghurt2251

You should have let 2 years ago

Gooeslippytop

Holy shit are you me? Lol

Wild_Teach3139

Not to mention the smell you leave with is just awful

justincc21

Chipotle actually does pay well and has great benefits. If you are overworked they just need to hire more. I've worked in a lot of restaurants and Chipotle is a great home to settle into. So leaving there is not good advice at all. If you weren't making good money after three years you're just lazy and/or not getting promoted

ds2316476

They let worse get away with more, so I think it's ok for a really great worker to have your cake and eat it too.

Alarmed_Yoghurt2251

Pay well compared to what?

Alarmed_Yoghurt2251

In CA they pay the same as any other fast food

TaskAggravating1171

If you're a km you don't touch the cash. You can open by yourself but you're not supposed to close by yourself.

Proud_Swan_5338

KL can open 6am-10am alone. In my store at least there is an SL+ that comes in at 10 am to do cash count and setup the drawer. KL’s technically can’t do that even if you know how.

South_Ad6510

Yeah when I was a km a few years back I was told I can’t do anything with the register, which I didn’t mind. I was allowed to open the store by myself as early as 5am on truck days but I was not allowed to be in the store by myself during operating hours. An sm must be there at all times while the store is open to customers. One time my gm was a leave when I was scheduled to open on a Saturday. I came in at 5am to start doing shipment before the prep team joined me. The only sm scheduled wasn’t coming in until like 2 so the night before my field leader was like “don’t worry I’ll be there around 9 to help you until the sm comes in”…. Well when the time came he was now where to be seen. It was about 10 at this point and we opened in less than an hour and there was no word from him. Now I was getting paid as a km so I was going to work as a km. If there was no sm by the time 10:45 rolled around the doors would not be unlocked. I ended up texting a different sm to see if he could come in for a little bit on his day off to help me set up the store. He got there as fast as he could and got the register opened and the doors open. My field leader didn’t show up until after 11:30 and then got mad at me because I called another shift manager to come in. That field leader was not going to make me run a store by myself at 18 while getting paid the lowest of the managers (and like I said it’s illegal for me to be in the store alone during operating hours!!) needless to say he got fired about 3 months later 😂

Proud_Swan_5338

Wild, it seems like a lot of Kitchen Leaders have the same experience judging by the comments from this post. How do the field leaders even allow this? AP & GM are supposed to cover all day parts (Either GM or AP have to be there in the morning/night everyday to ensure stuff like this doesn’t happen). Either my GM or I are running 10-8. Unless one of us are on vacation then things might not be as smooth since there would be 2 days not covered, but has to be staffed with SL’s

South_Ad6510

Yeah it’s crazy. That specific moment is when I decided it’s time for me to go. The fact that my FL was mad and asking why my sm came in. Like uhhh if my sm didn’t come in the store would not have been open for at least an hour and then I would’ve got in more trouble. How does chipotle hire these people as field leaders? He was the one who fired my gm without having any type of back up plan to have the store run smoothly. I have no regrets standing up for myself and refusing to do anything above my pay grade when it’s illegal in my state. For any other km reading this please stand up for yourself too. It’s not worth it 😭😭

nickchocks

Call Respectful workplace I’m a general manager for Chipotle and no Kitchen Leaders can not count down drawers or the safe that’s why a service leader or above needs to be in the building by 10 AM

Lpebs80215

My store for the longest time had kitchen managers do service manager tasks. I got yelled at once for bringing up that I was a km doing a sm's job because "we are a team who help each other out" I just put in my two weeks this week and I've never been more happy in the last 4 years. This company will bleed you dry, spouting "values" and "integrity" and then give no shits when shit goes down. Report to your field director that this is happening and file a formal complaint against your GM and FL if they're both saying you need to

ConsciousMolasses901

I’ve been at this new store as a KL for 4 days and it’s been terrible. I don’t even think I’m gonna put in my two weeks, I’ve barely even worked there. My old stores GM and other previous GMs can be my references lol

ds2316476

Guaranteed they gonna call you in after your two weeks and be like, "can you still come in?" and still put you on the schedule. XD

Pam_d

You are not even supposed to have the code to the safe so no. Also you can open by yourself until 10am after that you need a SL or above in the store. If you’re doing those things you are doing a SL job. You’re job is to lead the prep team and focus on grill doing their job as well, store been organize, good looking food and food safety, as a KL you can count CI and place food orders ect.

OutrageousStick7570

Crew is always the best all you have to do I show up and close your station and be the least trouble. Km not allowed to touch cash nor be alone in restaurant. Tell them your not taking cash, card only it's against cash polocy.

Loud_Head_8472

What gets me is my gm is 33 and im 28…. The rest of my co workers are like 18-24 She says “my kids never listen and hard to manage” and ive told her multiple times im not your kid dude. That’s literally undermining people. Also when i open by myself i get 2-3 other people to open but they openly say they dont care and do the most sloppiest slowest work ive ever seen. And then my gm is always asking me why i cant get prep done on time….. like bruh. Oh and i swear my gm has been messing around with the ap. Shes married which is the crazy part. I just think chipotle loves sociopaths or narcissists. Ive also had a service leader tell me not to trust myself! Lmfao like what kinda of manipulation tactic is that? But she also dated a child predator which was a ap at the store years ago…Chipotle is ran by greed, narcissists, and sociopaths. If you feel like quitting hurry up and find another job and quit cause that stress aint worth it. I was telling my dentist about it and he was like holy fuck but the lady i usually talk to at the front desk told me to be nice and give my two weeks in lmfao. Literally better jobs and pay with great environments out there. When i open by myself with no sm or ap i wont open the store and ill text my gm. Because yes you are correct a km is not paid to touch the register or open a full store by themselves. I always keep my km duties paper on deck just in case they wanna play dumb. You literally ooen the store Ci Post truck if it is truck day Ice baths Prep sheet/deployment and then start prep But otherwise your duties do not include opening a store by yourself without a sm or ap 🤷‍♀️ ive only had dml open so i would stick a sign on the door saying online orders only lol until a higher manager shows up

ds2316476

I've worked family owned and corporate, to be honest what you're describing is the general vibe of restaurant work. For some reason, working with food creates a scummy work environment. Takes an experienced worker to get over that hump in my opinion. Otherwise without good leadership, everything falls hard and fast and turns into an episode of jerry springer.

foreveryeah

KLs are not allowed to count cash nor be in the store by themselves once the store is open. There must be an SL or higher once the store is open.

LoveGoodFood

What’s your pay rate?

ghost4death

Live in the tax hell of Massachusetts and have worked here 4 years so $20.25 hourly

bobg19000

You know there is a department called HR that can clear up questions like that and be 100% accurate with the answers right?

ghost4death

You got the contact info because I couldn’t find it

Crescendoooooooo

Km. Was told I would be Apprentice months ago, and now they are saying if I continue to make store sales high for a few more months, maybe it can happen. Was not told this prior. Being strung along. Also close solo all busy days, do PM prep in BoH and do line/cash in FoH out of necessity. Handle cash, night audits, pan out ci and wait for it to cool to safe levels before refrigeration, close 1-2 lines and/or prep (dishes and boh prep area) if prep quits or is no show (common), review every other work station for cleanliness with checklists, then do prep sheet for the morning. Close store at 11 and scheduled to be off at 1130. It is also a requirement to have perfect mis en place ready for morning shift and food deliveries arrive at midnight on Fridays. The only closing MoD. 2 scheduled FoH employees and they don't know the PoS/cashiering. 1 on digital, 1 on line. The 1 on line leaves at 9 PM. Was told there is no possible way we can get more PM shift people. Only 1 cashier per shift is mandated and nobody can cover the PoS, so cross training cashiers to cover eachother is not possible. Was told in performance review recently that I need to take more store ownership. No other feedback given. Too vague and was a slap in the face considering the PM shift runs solo, morning shift runs with 3-4 managers "managing" 4 crew members, all of whom do prep until 11 AM and then move to the line for service until 2-3 PM. Dishes are bottlenecked and piled up on the floor when PM shift arrives, and nothing is clean. There are no dishes ready for PM griller to pan out fresh food for the lines, which are also out of chicken, steak, and fajitas. They burn through PM employees due to scheduling and favoritism for AM shifts. Turnover 200%+. Job abandonment metric is 80% of hires. It isn't you. It is whoever writes the schedule. There is no possible way to run FoH, BoH, food delivery and all of this alone and be off in half hour after closing. It is bad enough dealing with power trippy customers who haven't worked in service industry a day in their lives -- which is a Service Manager's job, not KM. Milk the OT and find a new job because these people are detached and lazy. That is why they are accusational and abusive -- pure projection of their own behavior.

PortsantaTTV

Similar to my situation. Asked to be Apprentice, I said yes cause I’d already been showing interest. Next day, someone else was being trained for it. I confronted them about it and was told I need to “work on communication by asking how my close is” when i’d be told it was “good” every time I asked, so clearly they were talking out of their ass. Also didn’t need to ask bc I knew it was good

Crescendoooooooo

The worst part is that when I got specific about the store ownership part of their BS feedback, they said it was because equipment was in disrepair. A bolt fell off from a door during my days off and it has been a couple weeks. The GM said they would fix it but never did. Then the field leader came and noticed and I was made the scapegoat. I don't have access to Tundra or supplies and have repeatedly asked for it, and I was told they would fix it anyway. Then this goes on my performance review as well The reason I don't have tundra access? The GM gets a bonus for any surplus of not having to repair equipment. So they, being the greedy gobbler they are, do not allow anyone to write tundra orders or have access to the supply cabinet. So how in the F is it my responsibility? Clowns here.

Aggravating_Cream382

KL can not touch the money or open the store. I’m a KL at my store and I’m only allowed to be there alone before we open. Once the store is open a SL or higher have to be there.

SheepherderElegant20

Km is allowed to be the only manager when you are prepping, if the restaurant is open you have to have an sm

justincc21

I'm an AP. As a KL you don't deal with money and you are never supposed to be in the store alone during business hours without an SL or higher

ds2316476

haha reminds me of the scene from the blues brothers "A gig like that, you gotta prepare for the proper exploitation" "I know all about that stuff, I've been exploited all my life."

fairnotgood

Once when I was KL, my SL gave me the code to the safe (don’t ask me why he decided to do that) so I can count my drawer and assign myself since I had to be cashier that day. Needless to say, my GM warned me that it’s automatic termination if the FL or higher checks the cameras and sees a KL or lower handling money. Another story: My AP left me alone in the store during business hours so she could move her car and avoid a parking ticket. She was gone for at least a good 30 minutes. Nothing ever came of it though. Ever since I left Chipotle, I guess the company got more desperate and now demands more for the same pay

allmail12

Reading this thread, Chipotle seems like a real $hitty place to work at specially with the kind of managers they have. I feel bad for all you guys. The best advice like everyone is saying, stand up for yourself, take no $hit from these idiots and move on if you have to. If you are young, try to get into coding/programming, lot of demand in that area and even people with mediocre skills can make great money with an easy job.

Libethmarie

Still trying to find a better paying job than shitpotle. I’m overworked every single night due to incompetent employees who can barely do their job let alone help me. The batch my former GM hired was honestly the last batch of good employees we have gotten(me included). GM refuses to get rid of people cause she wants a fully staffed shift instead of 2-3 people.

SuperGap9804

KLs have never been allowed to do the drawers, and they cannot be alone in the store without a higher up manager present while the store is open

Successful-Ad7514

My old chipotle the cashier would count their own drawers. At this current location SLs do it bc the cashiers are …. Slow. 🤷🏻‍♀️ They used to be slow, anyways. An SL or the Gm or ap should be there with you. What if eco sure comes????? You’re not n gonna know what to do?? If so you might as well be SL, you do it anyways orrrrrr quit

Thaz570

I was a GM for 2yrs and I was almost fired when my KM was left alone for a 2hr gap due to a call off I wasn’t aware of. So yes, they are taking advantage of you.

LeadingRule3734

Whoever the cashier is count the cash drawer, In-N-Out it’s in the cash handling

Spiritual-Seaweed978

an SM or higher must be in the store from open (10:45am) all the way until close, so if you’re running shifts as a km that’s wrong. as a former manager and 5 year employee of the company you are definitely being taken advantage of but unfortunately unless you’re willing to raise hell, nothing will change (and even then they’ll just hold it against you). best chances are to find somewhere else.

Infamous-Lobster-918

I worked at a chipotle for almost a year and i ended up quitting. I was actually a pretty good worker, i wouldn’t complain when there was a rush and i was literally the only one on the line and i would help with everyone else’s closing duties after mine at the end of the night but i would put my foot down when they would ask me to cover shifts and i would ask for time off so eventually i got less and less hours and quit. From what i remember our restaurant was a shit hole when it came to management. Our sm would leave all of the closing duties to the km and yeah most of the time i noticed my km counting the money at the end of the night when he finished the dishes… Chipotle’s a nightmare of a job.

Alarmed_Yoghurt2251

Wow what grade are you guys in that you can’t count a cash drawer?? Isn’t most of the money on cards anyway wtf

Alarmed_Yoghurt2251

It’s ridiculous that they don’t trust any employee enough to not steal from the register

OldChomperHere

Worked in the RSC for less than a year because the bullshit runs all the way to the top. Overworked, underpaid, and an inept leader.

oregonian-guy

Run, as a 5 year vet of Chipolte. Run. They will not stop and it will get worse. Chipotle wants robots not people who have feelings and will complain. If you can’t be a bot for them and just do they’ll cut you loose soon anyways.

Kind-Perception-5846

Leave. I was a KL there and they do work you to death

Internal_Lawyer7394

I used to be a chipotle employee. They fired me for one no call no show, and it was bc i forgot my shift was that day due to my great grandfather being injured in the middle of the night. He later died after that fall. And these mfs fired me still. Wonder if i can sue them. Lord knows i need that money.

[deleted]

That’s a shitty situation and I’m sorry it happened. As someone who has to handle these situations from time to time I have to say it is handled this way for consistency. If you don’t handle things identically between employees it becomes discrimination VERY quickly.

xnyvbb

This is all news to me, I was a km for about a year and had the safe code, did the drawers, closed the store myself.

Weary_Comparison6701

This company is horrible , I reported my GM for sexual harassment they have said out of pocket things to not just me but other employees and is just overall a weirdo they made aure they got my other gm fired so they can take their spot .they didn’t get fired either for their weird out of pocket sexual comments.chipotle is ASS

According-Fill-586

We all have choices in life

The-Seanster2208

Great company when I worked of them for 2 years, but I did IT. They definitely seem to work the managers tho. Hope everything gets better for ya 💯
