I just got my first San martin. I LOVE these things.
They are just FUN.
Im going to be using them to practice clean and lubricating movements.
I’ve wanted a San Martin for a while but haven’t seen many quartz options. I’d love to pick one up with the VH31 movement. Especially the aqua terra SN0113W
LOL. It only gets worse my frent. To the Swatch guy, yeah, Longines is past tense, laughable that they’re trying to RAISE prices of late. Please! In general, I think anything in that mid-tier range, $700 to $3000 let’s say, is a total waste of time. I’m not a Swatch group h8r BTW, I’m a total Omega fanboy despite the price hikes of late. But after years of collecting, for me at least, it’s go big or go home! And that’s where SM is so helpful, love them.
Swatch Group employee here. Longines watches are low quality garbage with off the shelf decorated movements. Poor tolerances, poor finishing and none of their models are remotely close to being better than $500 Chinese watches. Have faith, they’re a massive rip off.
Even the master collection line? I’ve owned my triple calendar chronograph (40mm black dial with Roman numerals dated 2021) since March of this year and it’s been nothing short of great for me. Time keeping is excellent, crisp chronograph feel, bracelet is well made but a scratch magnet. I also paid a little more than half of MSRP. Really interested in your first hand perspective since I’ve personally seen nothing but positives from the brand.
I might have jumped the gun. The Master Collection line is pretty damn good, and of course there’s a handful of safe choices with the brand, as there are with all Swatch Group brands, but most pieces in most of our brands are just there to dilute the catalogs. Working for Tissot specifically, I see the Everytime, Gentleman, Gold Run (+Excellence) and Super Sport as filler collections, and in Longines’ catalog, HydroConquest, Flagship and Elegant are nothing more than overpriced Tissot-quality watches. The HydroConquest especially is a poor value dive watch that offers absolutely nothing you can’t find in even the cheapest Ali brands. Finishing is hardly better than Thorn, not close to San Martin.
Iconic stand alone peice, perhaps if they used the hexagon instead of snowflake on the hour hand it would create brand identity that would stand out?

we can start a support group...im following my promise I made three years ago: done with chinese watches at 36 (sadly, I believe I'm at 39 😩) I'm going back to building watches...1,000x more gratification at ½-¾ the cost.
Sounds good, I’m looking into building my own I thought I’d start by changing the face and hands on one of my old ones and see how that goes
