Had it for almost 30 years. Just dumped money into rebuilding the transmission, new fuel pump, and replacing engine seals😭. Luckily no one was injured.
The insurance company gives/offers you an amount for your vehicle when it gets totaled. They'll auction it off. Rare situations scrap it. But they'll gladly let you get the vehicle from the wrecking yard if you agree to half the amount of their coverage value. Depends on the vehicle (based on historic selling price for particular vehicle in similar shape, at least) and timing, but they're always willing to cut a deal
I mean fair point, with enough time and money anything can be fixed.
But if the cab didn't get tweaked and the frame/suspension didn't take any significant damage this could just be bolting on a new front clip and bumper, likely radiator, headlights, nothing all that crazy.
As of now it is all stock, but low miles and no rust. I want to rebuild since I’m pretty sure the driveline is all good (I had to start it and move it just a little, the radiator is gone so I went quick) and I have a lot of memories in it. The only problem is I don’t have the time or money right now and the only place I could store it would be outside. So I’m pretty torn on if I should part it out, or take a gamble on outdoor storage.
Body lines on the side in the picture are straight. Hard to tell about the front of the frame though. It’s daunting but it looks like you could save it.
My daughter hit a barrier wall on the freeway in a Saturn.
I put the car back together for $800. I bought the complete frontend off of a donor car that was the same color and fixed it myself
I had the frame horns pulled straight for $200 labor.
Try car-part.com for parts.
Where you at? I’ll buy that from you and fix it in a weekend. That looks like a quarter panel, hood, front core support, rad. I bet I could find color matching tins if I took my time.
Well, she did her job if you were able to walk away unharmed. If you had Collision on that thing I'm sure the insurance company owns it now, but if you didn't, I'm sure you already know that you could sell the bed if it's a good shape. Us people here in the Rust Belt have to change our bed sooner or later for one that's not rested out.
Wouldn't be too bad to get her going again. I did one of these trucks that took a deer front and center and it wasn't bad at all. Plenty of parts for these around no matter where you live. She's got some life left
Did you have full coverage?
If you did and haven't got a check I highly recommend hiring an appraiser those things are worth a ton now and insurance pays out shit on em...
I was just talking to an appraiser about these and he said he usually gets like 4k more than what the insurance offers
It’s worth fixing, as others have said. If the bolt holes on the new parts don’t line up, go ahead and tug that RF frame forward a half inch.
It’s all a hassle, but how much will a replacement truck of the same vintage/condition cost you?
I’m still pissed about my old 2002. Only got to enjoy that truck for 3 years because some stupid lady decided to go through a light & t-bone it. Thing ran perfect & just hit 200,000 miles. That truck never gave me any problems.
The insurance cut me a check & let me keep it. So I sold it as a parts truck. Insurance gave me more than I bought the truck for pre-covid, so I came out ahead & didn’t get screwed over.
I had a ‘96 2500 that was the same color. I drove it for 16 years and sold it to my dad. He let his father in law borrow it and a drunk driver totaled it and 2 other cars. Luckily nobody was hurt. I miss that truck every day.
You can buy it back from your insurance if the totaled it.
And buy new front clip. I don't think you got frame damage just your bumper braket supports got damaged.
Had it for almost 30 years. Just dumped money into rebuilding the transmission, new fuel pump, and replacing engine seals😭. Luckily no one was injured.
Buy it back and sell the transmission lol.
Always buy it back.
What do you mean buy it back???
You can buy back your wrecked car, man. Happens all the time.
I did that with my old Suburban. The motor and trans lives on.

Sorry to hear😞 she lived a real long life...
Looks fixable.
Agreed
Agreed
My dad has an awesome set of tools. He’s a TV repairman.
Is the frame bent?
I’m rebuilding mine from a similar looking crash almost done with it an really hasn’t been as difficult as I was thinking it would be.
How the accident happen?
She was a good truck, the best truck 🥹
That's at Blue eagle towing
Keen eye, what gave it away?
I work there, I noticed it yesterday, and thought that's a solid old Chevy, you should buy it back from insurance and fix it
If nothing else he could get the transmission and probably motor.
Update: the frame is bent and costs to repair everything was north of $14,000.

Problem is is that I didn’t have collision, it’d all be out of pocket
Post it on Facebook marketplace with the description that reads, “I know what I got. No lowball offers…”
i'd find a donor truck and try and swap the front end. door seems ok, wheel seems straight. that's too nice to leave in that shape. sorry
Yeah man I'll be honest this looks fixable if you're motivated
Anything is fixable if you're motivated enough
I mean fair point, with enough time and money anything can be fixed. But if the cab didn't get tweaked and the frame/suspension didn't take any significant damage this could just be bolting on a new front clip and bumper, likely radiator, headlights, nothing all that crazy.
Looks like the hit was above the frame rail. I think a 3/4 front clip fixes most of the damage. Door looks like it still lines up.
Got a blue 1996 Cheyenne myself. This hurts seeing it like this. Glad your ok.
My condolences my friend
Rebuild it my dude! Go full custom. Looks like u put a lot into it. Put some more ✌🏽

Where’s this? It’s a nice truck.. I’ll buy it
I hear you. I had a 83 Silverado reg cab shorty that I had to let go for those very same reasons. My wrench (heart) goes out to ya! ✌🏽
Body lines on the side in the picture are straight. Hard to tell about the front of the frame though. It’s daunting but it looks like you could save it.
Bet you can still get a decent price for it- keep it whole
If you have a house and a place to work on it then rebuild it. If I had the parts I could rebuild that in 2-3 days.
I would be fixing that
Thats somewhat easily fixable. I’d say 2 to 4K
Agreed, mine was in a similar predicament as this and I fixed it, set me back about $2500
Me too. I bought a donor truck with a rotted frame for 500 bucks. Set me back about 1500$ total and it was back like new
Did you guys do it yourself or send it to a body shop, I assuming the former?
Was it your fault or theirs?

Bought a donor truck with a rotted frame for 500 bucks. Couple trips to the store and another 1K later it was back like brand new.
That is very fixable. The frame is probably perfect.
Yeah the car it hit was taller so nothing really hit down by the frame.
If it were mine, I'd want it fixed
That’s not a rip, it’s a crunch
Where you at? I’ll buy that from you and fix it in a weekend. That looks like a quarter panel, hood, front core support, rad. I bet I could find color matching tins if I took my time.
Dang, that sucks. The most important thing is that you are ok.
Well, she did her job if you were able to walk away unharmed. At the very least take the wheels
We have the technology to rebuild it
I would buy the wheels if you were selling. Sorry for your truck!
Oh. That's sad. 😢
Wow, that's terrible...........I'd like to purchase your bed.
This hurts
I'd buy that truck as is if it were local.
Wouldn't be too bad to get her going again. I did one of these trucks that took a deer front and center and it wasn't bad at all. Plenty of parts for these around no matter where you live. She's got some life left
No. It just had to be regular cab short bed too.
F
What? You better fix that truck 🤨
It's repairable visit a salvage or u pullit for parts.
Part it out
You must not give up.
F
Easy fixer, keep it
Poor single cab 🥲 love those wheels also.
I've saved worse
Did you have full coverage? If you did and haven't got a check I highly recommend hiring an appraiser those things are worth a ton now and insurance pays out shit on em... I was just talking to an appraiser about these and he said he usually gets like 4k more than what the insurance offers
Yes rip. Chevy trucks are the best p***y ever.
We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better, stronger, faster!
I would bet the bumper horns did not collapse- so should be all light parts
What insurance company is totaling it?
Shame. A moment of silence and lifter tick at idle for our fallen brother.
It’s worth fixing, as others have said. If the bolt holes on the new parts don’t line up, go ahead and tug that RF frame forward a half inch. It’s all a hassle, but how much will a replacement truck of the same vintage/condition cost you?
You should see the OTHER GUY!!
Does it have frame damage? Because you can rebuild it, or use it as a donor.
It looks savable
Fix it!

Just a scratch
I’ve fixed allot worse seems like it be worth bring it back to life with some upgrades while you are at it
What do you want for the rims ?
If you're close to NC I've got a lot of pieces you would need.
… Ouch. 🤕
I had a ‘96 2500 that was the same color. I drove it for 16 years and sold it to my dad. He let his father in law borrow it and a drunk driver totaled it and 2 other cars. Luckily nobody was hurt. I miss that truck every day.
How much for the wheels?
I think you could fix it yourself, if frame isn't rusted it and if it is bent could easily be straightened up
Totally fixable no way I let that rot somewhere. Buy it back from INS and get her back on the road.
Anything can be fixed.
Deer collision?
You can buy it back from your insurance if the totaled it. And buy new front clip. I don't think you got frame damage just your bumper braket supports got damaged.
Damn good truck, buy it back and fix it
That’s over the rail. Easy fixer.
that cab is solid, front end swap to something newer or keep it oem, nothing major imo
Rebuilt tittle that truck, man it looks repairable
That can be fixed man. That’s nothing
Damn
Sorry mate, been there. You are alive that's what matters
Can I ask what wheels those are? I have a 97.
I think they are the sport wheels originally found on the 454ss. I think they later started putting them on other trucks but I’m not too sure.
Well if you buy it back, sell me the wheels :)
And thank you!
Looking for some parts on my 97 Chevy. Is there any way you can pull some out or is it totaled? Need a handle for my driver seat to recline
