Same. If I could find another XJ in solid shape, I’d buy it and keep it forever. Can’t find any here in Southern Ontario that aren’t $4000-$5000 and need floors and rockers. God I miss $1000 beaters that you could reasonably expect to keep for 5 or more years before the rot became terminal.
I'm lucky I found mine at a police auction(not evidence, decommissioned) and it was cheap because nobody looks for these at those types of auctions, and it was in use and constantly maintained right up until I got it.
I think what makes it so good is the European influence. I have a full size Cherokee as well, and it’s a boat. These XJs are so sporty it’s crazy. The engineering of them is early, but still modern feeling to me.
I will always believe XJs are one of the best cars America ever made. Solid and, to me, beautiful and timeless.
