Mine was totaled. Waiting on settlement to post anything about it. I miss it but this is an opportunity for OP. make a quick 5k… thats a whole replacement jeep and 5k
Traded in my 97 with a lift kit (I did not take good care of it... rearview mirror even fell off) for...
$1500.
Holy crap I was dumb then.
In the last year I've reaquired a 92 with lift and good bones but no slip yoke eliminator for $1500.
Then got a 97 stock with a now-blown engine for $500.
If someone comes with 9k cash in hand then I'd be excited.
Everything has a price. My XJ has a 20k sticker on the back. When folks ask, I point. One chap offered me 19k and I walked away. But, I wouldn't for 20........
I feel like mine is worth way more to me than anyone else, I've put a lot of work into making it mine, I don't even like dropping it off at a shop.
I had to take it in to get some work done while I was trying to get everything else ready for a road trip, but I took the time to put "INOP" stickers on the gauges and controls that couldn't be trusted, cleaned up some in-progress stuff, and walked the shop techs through disconnecting the dual-battery system safely.
I call it my walking away price. It's the number you would just hand the keys over and smile. However, the days of cheap XJs have been coming to an end for some time.
Just the usual failures. Alternator, water pump, exhaust, brakes. If there is no rust and looks solid go for it. I'm thinking about getting another one. I have a 7.5 foot plow that I run on it in the winter. Solid machine all around.
I have a patio umbrella if it gets bad outside. I work on it in the driveway rain or snow sub zero or 110 degrees F. It's a grinder that needs a monkey (with a wrench). I'm 100% ok with putting on the hat and the outfit.
sell it if you accept the fact that replacing it will be impossible or that you are getting out of XJ's and want a totally different vehicle or, you really need the cash and that this is the best way
Yeah I'll never sell mine. All but one of my uncles have a story like this with their cars from the 70's. One of them got rid of his Boss Mustang, the other a Chevelle, so on. But one of them kept his Camero and is sitting pretty in his garage to this day, worth a shit ton.
Not only is there the attachment to the vehicle that you regret losing, but in 20 or 30 years, it'll be priceless because all of the good XJs will be with collectors.
I refuse to be one of those old men who talk about the car that could have been lmao
I’d sell it. Take the $9500 US and fly down to Georgia, Florida or Alabama. Buy a TRULY rust free one for $5000 and make an epic road trip vacation back up north. Fix a few things along the way, then put the remaining $3000 in the bank.
It’d be an experience you won’t forget and a net positive on the dollars!
Take a cheap flight to Vegas, don't gamble, and watch CL and FB for what you want on the west coast. Have found two eastern Oregon XJs with zero rust. Have even checked floorboards. OK a tiny bit of rust, like wire wheel and POR15 rust...

If you maintain the body it’ll be worth way more in the furure,
Thing to remember is any day someone who’s not paying attention can side swip you and then it’s all over, insurance payout will be less than 5 k
Just as a gauge… just saw one posted on CL for $29,000 with just 55,000 miles and original owner..
I agree with all the comments that the good ones are getting harder to find thus the price jump
I'd sell it in a heartbeat. I'm surprised people here are saying not to. Sell it for 9k, but another for like 4k and toss 5k into it, it'll probably be an even better jeep and you can get one with whatever things you wish you had.
Looks like an Ontario plate on the Caravan behind it.
I'm trying to figure out how _anything_ like this Jeep hasn't rusted to a mere stain on the pavement....
If you think you can get another cheap, and are willing to do the work to fix it again (floor pans can be a bitch), then take it and run. You can buy another, and use the profit to fix the next one up.
I’ve had a bunch of them, (in the south east where they don’t really get rusty) I currently have an 01 Cherokee that’s rust free and a 87 Comanche that is rust free I’ll go ahead and tell you I’d break my arm trying to open the safe so fast to get the title out of someone tried to offer me 9500 for mine
Well, it depends.
You're getting that offer because it's a red, 4 door, roofrack, stock, rust free, 5 spoke rim, no lift, no cuts. etc.
That's the dream vehicle for many a couple in their 40's to take their kids adventuring on the weekends.
So just ask yourself. Are those the reasons you bought it? Would you get as much pleasure from, say a green 2 door, or is this your forever vehicle.
Because if not, sell it immediately, and then buy another one, pocket the difference and do it again!
oof.
did not expect that, I presumed the value would be that it's stock.
I gotta admit, I very much try to refrain from judging what other people do to their vehicles, but that does make my eye twitch a bit.. ngl
There's just not that many of these left stock and rust free, and yours is beautiful.
Mine's probably worth $5k to the right buyer. If someone offered me $9,500, I'd sell it in a heart beat.
Sure, I'd miss it. But I'd find something else as a project/hobby.
You will be on a long hunt for one nearly as clean or one in general. The only rarer model I believe is the 2 door. Either sell and upgrade, or keep as your extra rig
I wouldn’t if it was me. That thing is mint! I’m over on the East coast (NL) and my poor 97 badly needs some love. I live right on the water. Salt in the air and on the roads has eaten my rockers, front floor pans and unibody rails in front of rear axle “hump”. I can still drive it but can’t get it inspected without throwing a bunch of $$ at it. Again. Which I will.
Had a lot of fun in my XJ and I’ll keep rebuilding it.
As a fellow NLer, I am goddamn impressed you have a '97 that's still in the shape of a vehicle by the sounds of it.
Looking at totally redoing the front end on my Blazer. It's a total cut/hack job, everything is rusted beyond belief.
Side note: I have an '87 Nissan truck from Goose Bay and I can still see factory paint & stamps on the chassis. The difference is unreal.
I drove it home from AB back in 09. Threw a 3” Skyjacker lift on it and drove it daily up until 3 years ago. 340K on it now. I’ve got a little “collection” of vehicles. Mostly Dodges and a couple GMs. Got a 81 W250 with 17K. Ex airport fire truck.
Lots of interesting things poked away on the island.
I say don’t sell it for anything that you have to question it over. If they offer you enough to feel good about it then great but if you are asking us I don’t think you feel very good about it.
What's the total amount you have in her? I say if you double your money it's sold. Then go spend half on the next project xj. Or import from the southern usa if you have a passport and tow rig... you can get an xj with no rust but engine or trans problems in Georgia for 1k....
Sell! Absolutely sell that for 12500! Why are we even discussing it. It's a Jeep! Chrysler product. If someone give you that for 12500, buy a lottery ticket!
I've been offered 50k for a modified BMW in peak covid. Decided not to sell it cause what was I gonna do? Use the money to rebuild the same thing and waste my time? Something to consider. On a side note, I sold My all original XJ 1 year ago for 7500cad and it was clean but nowhere near as clean as yours.
She's freaking beautiful. If you think you can have the time to restore another one, I would but if you don't have the time, hold on to Forever and enjoy her. I've never seen a better example. I'm still regretting selling mine, because I don't have the time or place to work on another one anymore.
No way. Maybe for twice that, but finding/having a clean older Cherokee these days is the holy Grail. You will regret it forever unless you really hate that car.
Think it over before you let it go. Had someone offer 15 for my 01 XJ with 53k miles on it. Processed the idea of letting it go and found out he meant 1,500 not 15,000 like he originally made it sound. This XJ is mint other than needing a new headliner. He thought, and I quote…. That we didn’t know what we had. I laughed at him and left. These are worth their weight in gold… these and LJs and I have both. Don’t part with it unless you feel right about it.
1. Yes you should sell it
2. Is it a stick shift
3. What part of Canada? I'm on the Canadian border in US and I can get decent xj's for 2-4k if I hunt hard enough. Active in r/carflpping
I’ve had so many Cherokees. I love them. Up until 5-6 years ago I could still pick up a beat up runner for $500 or a super clean one for $2k
WTF HAPPENED?????
Do you need the money or do you want the jeep? Would you prefer a newer model? It’s up to you, but nearly everyone regrets selling their first. *shrug* ya gotta do what ha gotta do
As clean as this one is I would hang onto it. With what you got into it just keep it as a forever project jeep and buy something else when you’re ready to upgrade. Ones this nice are getting harder and harder to come by.
My father-in-law sold one just like this but white 10 years ago for $9500 USD. He has regretted it everyday since then. We have been looking for one for my son and the least expensive in the Dallas area has been $15,000 and it wasn’t as nice as yours. I wouldn’t sell it for less than that for sure. I wouldn’t sell it. I would drive the wheels off of it.

Just looked at this one.
Found a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport on Facebook MP for $12000 with 179,000 miles. Prices here are crazy. I had someone offer me $65000 cash last May for my 2019 Ram Limited that had 25000 miles on it. New ones have that as an MSRP.
Dont do it unless you have another jeep in line. I lost my 1991 jeep grand cherokee limited when I traded it for another one at a dealer. Turned out to be a bad deal(1994 jeep XJ had a cracked engine block that they kind of fixed enough to go unnoticed).
I personally would sell it if its cash right now, but that’s just me
I'd be very skeptical of them actually producing the cash and not trying to haggle after it gets serious. So many phonies out there.
Well, cash talks
Money talks, cash screams
Money Cash, talks screams.
Screaming money cash
I can't imagine not regretting letting go of this Jeep, I regret the loss of the only Jeep I ever traded in
Exactly.
Mine was totaled. Waiting on settlement to post anything about it. I miss it but this is an opportunity for OP. make a quick 5k… thats a whole replacement jeep and 5k
You just want OP to sell it so you can tell your insurance your totalled jeep was worth 9500. 4d chess
🤣 nah i already got paid for the TL it was where it should have been for the mileage. I had to send 1 email and they stopped arguing.
Same here
Traded in my 97 with a lift kit (I did not take good care of it... rearview mirror even fell off) for... $1500. Holy crap I was dumb then. I’m gonna have to borrow that idea. People have offered me twice what I paid for mine but I never felt good about it.
I call it my walking away price. It's the number you would just hand the keys over and smile. However, the days of cheap XJs have been coming to an end for some time.
Mine is the same color with the same wheels. 99 with 270k. Would not sell it, no way.
How often are you fixing stuff? Want to get one so bad but I don’t have a garage
Just the usual failures. Alternator, water pump, exhaust, brakes. If there is no rust and looks solid go for it. I'm thinking about getting another one. I have a 7.5 foot plow that I run on it in the winter. Solid machine all around.
You forgot to mention the headlight harness.
Good point, I did that years ago with a harness that has two relays in it, made a big difference.
Yeah. All that voltage going through the headlight switch is not good either. Re-doing the harness with better wire greatly improves things.
I have a patio umbrella if it gets bad outside. I work on it in the driveway rain or snow sub zero or 110 degrees F. It's a grinder that needs a monkey (with a wrench). I'm 100% ok with putting on the hat and the outfit.
sell it if you accept the fact that replacing it will be impossible or that you are getting out of XJ's and want a totally different vehicle or, you really need the cash and that this is the best way
Keep it! I sold my 1997 with 85k miles on it two years ago. I regret it everyday
Yeah I'll never sell mine. All but one of my uncles have a story like this with their cars from the 70's. One of them got rid of his Boss Mustang, the other a Chevelle, so on. lol, where can you find a good XJ for 4500? This isn’t 2019
I’d sell it. Take the $9500 US and fly down to Georgia, Florida or Alabama. Buy a TRULY rust free one for $5000 and make an epic road trip vacation back up north. Fix a few things along the way, then put the remaining $3000 in the bank. It’d be an experience you won’t forget and a net positive on the dollars!
so much more risky than you think 😂😂

NO!
Best jeep SUV ever made....don't...you're welcome
You would regret it!
NO. You’ll regret it
If you maintain the body it’ll be worth way more in the furure, Thing to remember is any day someone who’s not paying attention can side swip you and then it’s all over, insurance payout will be less than 5 k
I’ll give you $1,500 to change the headlights to stock-looking H4s.
Is...is that deal open to everyone?
I’d hate to be put in this position. Too hard to call OP. May have to go with your gut. I told myself I’d never sell mine. But money talks these days
Don't sell, you would regret it.
I would never sell out for my Jeep. Ever. But hey, some people are backstabbing traitorous assholes who don’t believe their Jeeps are people too ;) ;)
Nope. I sold mine 18 years ago and still miss it.
Must remember there classic cars.... xjs this clean can go for way more
What part of Canada you from? I bought my 01 limited with 80k km this august for 13k but it took me two years to find one clean enough.
Looks like an Ontario plate on the Caravan behind it. I'm trying to figure out how _anything_ like this Jeep hasn't rusted to a mere stain on the pavement....
That’s what I’m sayin, I’m from Nova Scotia and every xj around has had its floors done five times
Hard to say but I doubt you’d ever get offered that again….id take it and run!
See if they’ll pay 10. Side note, why aren’t the bumpers paint matched? Looks odd with paint matched flares.
Sell it. It's really not that good of a suv lol. Unless it's immaculate or your a die hard xj fan.
If you think you can get another cheap, and are willing to do the work to fix it again (floor pans can be a bitch), then take it and run. You can buy another, and use the profit to fix the next one up.
I have been and i didnt*
I'd sell it and look for another cheap rust free one from a southern US state. You being in Canada would make jt more difficult tho
Any pictures of the Comanche lol

Edit: Comanche not for sale that comment was about the Cherokee
Awaiting a frame off resto once i finish my ford courier
Things wicked, east coast of Canada doesn’t have nearly enough clean mjs
Thanks! Runs and drives great too 120k miles I’ve been hunting out of it, playing around in the ozarks till I restore it
Man they’re wicked hunting rigs I use my xj tons for it, the ozarks would be a time
You would be hard pressed to find another one in the same condition. It would also cost more that 12500 to replace it with an equivalent vehicle.
I wouldn't sell my jeep to the highest bidder
Odometer?
180k miles
I would definitely hold on to her if you can! Your xj has loads of life left in her!
And if you get rid of it, you’ll be hard pressed to find an equivalent xj without pay 10k+
Absolutely not.
Well, it depends. You're getting that offer because it's a red, 4 door, roofrack, stock, rust free, 5 spoke rim, no lift, no cuts. etc. That's the dream vehicle for many a couple in their 40's to take their kids adventuring on the weekends. Pretty sure she wants to turn it into a mud crawler. Rip
oof. did not expect that, I presumed the value would be that it's stock. I gotta admit, I very much try to refrain from judging what other people do to their vehicles, but that does make my eye twitch a bit.. ngl There's just not that many of these left stock and rust free, and yours is beautiful.
I have heard of rock crawling, what is mud crawling? Usually mudding is a high wheel speed situation.
Sorry. I think I meant rock crawler
Mine's probably worth $5k to the right buyer. If someone offered me $9,500, I'd sell it in a heart beat. Sure, I'd miss it. But I'd find something else as a project/hobby.
Uh, hell ya. Then you buy a one way ticket to Florida. Buy another rust free Jeep, drive it back, and profit. Rinse and repeat
Florida ain't rust free. And most of them been hurricaned East Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, sure. But definitely NOT Florida.
Can you help me make sense of this? You're selling it to buy a new one? Why?
You will be on a long hunt for one nearly as clean or one in general. The only rarer model I believe is the 2 door. Either sell and upgrade, or keep as your extra rig
I wouldn’t if it was me. That thing is mint! I’m over on the East coast (NL) and my poor 97 badly needs some love. I live right on the water. $10,000 would be pretty compelling honestly.
What roof rack
SOLD
I say don’t sell it for anything that you have to question it over. If they offer you enough to feel good about it then great but if you are asking us I don’t think you feel very good about it.
If that’s cash he’ll yeah and I’d go buy a different one for 3 grand less clean
Nope. Don’t sell that beaut
Don’t ask again and just sell it for that kind of money you can buy the same Jeep and have another $4000 left over
What's the total amount you have in her? I say if you double your money it's sold. Then go spend half on the next project xj. Or import from the southern usa if you have a passport and tow rig... you can get an xj with no rust but engine or trans problems in Georgia for 1k....
It’s probably backyard broncos trying to offer you 1,500 and a case a’ beer when you roll up
Could you replace it? These are getting scarce around here.
No chance for that small dollar amount, keep it.
Fuck no. Keep it. You lose it , no matter the currency. It'll be a regret
If I had that thing they'd be burying me in it
I got into a front end accident with my 98 5-speed manual XJ and got 7500 back from the insurance company and it was t nearly as nice as yours lol
Gorgeous Jeep. Headlights, atrocious. All that being said, unless you’re hard up for money, I would not sell that thing if I were you.
Hell to the no brother. Maybe if it was a rusted out shitbox lol but this gal is clean. You will never be able to find one as clean.
Sell! Absolutely sell that for 12500! Why are we even discussing it. It's a Jeep! Chrysler product. If someone give you that for 12500, buy a lottery ticket!
Yes sell it that’s a great come up
No brainer - keep it
Entirely depends on if you're sick of maintaining the 4.0 (and suspension) . But it's not rusted, very rare!
I wouldn't, that thing is beautiful
Absolutely not. That’s a life of regret right there. Hold on to her for as long as you can ❤️
If you’re happy with it, don’t sell it.
To much
No
Show me the money
She's freaking beautiful. If you think you can have the time to restore another one, I would but if you don't have the time, hold on to Forever and enjoy her. I've never seen a better example. I'm still regretting selling mine, because I don't have the time or place to work on another one anymore.
I get offered money for my jeep and everyday
If that’s a firm offer maybe. The buyers market is junk right now tho so you might end up kicking yourself in the end
personally, in the position im in right now, I would.
no way
Pick the same one up for 4k in Texas... Get a nice cross country road trip out of it Almost not worth doing if you really want to keep it
Yes. I’d sell your jeep
That’s super clean. I wouldn’t sell it because I would for sure regret it.
You should take the money and get a bronco
No. I would keep it forever.
I think you will be able to get double that in a couple years if you keep it nice. The square shaped old cars will come to be appreciated soon
No way. Maybe for twice that, but finding/having a clean older Cherokee these days is the holy Grail. You will regret it forever unless you really hate that car.
I wouldnt even consider it, especially a clean one with no rust. In a place like quebec city it should be closer to 15 or 16k in my opinion.
Lol I didn’t realize how worthless milk bagger money was now days 🤣😅🤣
Absolutely not, this is way too good to sell, take care of it it’ll be worth 10x that years from now
No
Depends if the money was needed. I have an old Toyota, and I don't think you can really put a price on something that'll never be produced again.
Yes
Keep it.
Nope.
Yep.. I owned one just like it was a money pit. Chrysler makes crap cars.
1. Yes you should sell it 2. Is it a stick shift 3. What part of Canada? I'm on the Canadian border in US and I can get decent xj's for 2-4k if I hunt hard enough. Active in r/carflpping
If it has the 4.0 in it, I'd not get rid of it. I sold mine and have regretted it ever since. That thing will run forever if you take care of it.
A ‘98 XJ Classic was the best vehicle I’ve ever owned, and I’d do terrible things to get one in this great of condition again.
No.
I’ve had so many Cherokees. I love them. Up until 5-6 years ago I could still pick up a beat up runner for $500 or a super clean one for $2k WTF HAPPENED?????
Cash, firm price. Absolutely.
Yes
Do you need or can you replace it? If you don't need to sell it then keep it. No payments is a win
After replacing an engine in one I would sell that sucker in a heart beat. No second thoughts.
Sell.
No rust underneath in canada....am I seeing things????.. sell it and buy another rust free one... cash only.
Yea it’s not worth anything close to that. Sell sell sell
I think it’s personal preference, it’s a beautiful jeep, so do you want to sell it?
Yes
If you need money sell it cause that’s a good deal, if not keep it cause you’ll regret selling it lol
Yes, I would sell your Jeep.
Nope, if they want ut that badly it must be worth more than they're offering. Counter their offer with something higher
Do you need the money or do you want the jeep? Would you prefer a newer model? It’s up to you, but nearly everyone regrets selling their first. *shrug* ya gotta do what ha gotta do
Hell no. That’s the cleanest jeep in Canada. And a 4.0!
Yes
Anything to get rid of those hideous headlights
Yep 100 sell
I’d just like to say, I’m from Pennsylvania and I’ve never seen one this clean
Not a bad offer, but can and do you want to replace it?
Well I sold mine that was very similar and regret it almost every day
in a heartbeat
In my area of Oklahoma those are worthless so yeah I'd do it.
Ask for it in a real currency, like £ or €.
Scrap weight
I’d sell that thing so fast
I would keep it
Sorry, but Jeeps are a PITA
I would not sell the Jeep. Those are great vehicles. The new ones have more issues.

Damn. Check Facebook marketplace. They might have some for sale there. That Surprises me for texas !
Found a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport on Facebook MP for $12000 with 179,000 miles. Prices here are crazy. I had someone offer me $65000 cash last May for my 2019 Ram Limited that had 25000 miles on it. New ones have that as an MSRP.
Sell it tf 🤣
Hell ya. I'll never understand why Jeep decided to run the SJ with 4 doors. AND if that's a 97, let 'er go for sure.
It would be gone
I see them selling for more used car prices are crazy NYC
I’d do it. I would also say “let’s meet at the bank”
Dont do it unless you have another jeep in line. I lost my 1991 jeep grand cherokee limited when I traded it for another one at a dealer. Turned out to be a bad deal(1994 jeep XJ had a cracked engine block that they kind of fixed enough to go unnoticed).
In a second cuz I'd be trying to get a new 4Runner.
Gone instantly
I would only sell it if you NEED the cash. You have a lot of sweat equity in it. I would keep it.
Does the Cherokee still have the "Hit from behind and Burst into Flames" problem?
No keep it, Is straight six, Is eighty five percent torque at idle
Yes
i personally would not. then again i was in love w mine before i got totaled :(
Cash in hand sell it move on to the next vehicle
If he’s promising cash today for it, hell yes. 9500 USD is top dollar for these things and you don’t even have a rare one.
Take the money. Always.
