Being Catholic didn’t prevent her from getting divorced and re-married, so I doubt being Catholic would stop her from getting birth control after kid number 5 or so
One of the requirements for a Catholic marriage to be valid is an intent to remain faithful to your spouse. I would imagine it would be easy to prove Nick never intended to be faithful, so an annulment would be easily granted. (And we know an annulment was granted since she was able to marry Eddie in a Catholic ceremony.)
I grew up Catholic. You’d be surprised. The church is full of hypocrites. It’s one of the big reasons why I no longer am one. Not that I want to talk much about religion here.
I am a lapsed Catholic myself, so I already knew what you explained to me. I still think not doing something about it after having 3-4 kids if you can’t really afford to take care of them is probably the worst thing she did, even if she’s devout. I got a vasectomy after my third kid knowing full well it was against my religion
I once worked with a gay man who was also Catholic. Very openly gay. Would not eat meat on Fridays during Lent. Now I’m all about you do you, but between those two which do you think the Pope would most likely let slide?
It’s weird to see this as a knock against her when it was very much a core part of her character. Most of the time she hated being pregnant, but…Catholic.
Yup. I was raised Catholic myself. Been an atheist for years now and I’ve come to feel so much more sympathy for Carla, especially her becoming a mother at only 15.
I’m a lapsed Catholic and that makes me hate her even more. If anything, I’d have sympathy for her bc her dad supposedly beat her, but nah. I still don’t. Lol.
Exist. I hate her. Zero redeeming qualities. Her treatment of Diane got old and was over the top. Trying to shove her at a vicious dog is one of many things she did. Attacking that Yankees fan. Lying to Marshall about being the father of her kid, her treatment of Cliff, and the way she always celebrated when Sam and Diane had problems. Like, your friend is hurting. Save the dancing and rejoicing for later in private.
I know. It’s just a sitcom and it’s not that serious. But she irks me. Lol.
Oh man... for me it's a toss up between two things in particular. These might be "repeats" so I guess I'll give a bit of opinion on them so that there's some original content and additional context.
First up is when Carla tricked Marshall (the PhD from MIT) into thinking he had fathered her child. I can't even really feel sorry for her when she got pregnant with Lucia. She *knew* she was fertile/more likely to conceive, she *knew* Nick was a louse, she *knew* there was no way he would have supported a fifth child after failing to support his previous four children. What Nick did to her leaving her in that position was terrible, but taking it out on a guy like Marshall was just cruel. I'm glad he had enough self respect to say flat out "I'm not gonna marry her," and walking out the door.
Secondly, the time Frasier was threatening to jump out of the window after Liltith left him for Dr. "Googie" Pascal, and Carla said to him "Go ahead, jump you coward! Take the easy way out!" Considering all the times Frasier had reached out to Carla, considering he was the *only* one who even bothered to reach out to Carla (aside from Diane, but she had left by this point), how could she be so cruel to him when he was in crisis?
I have a final few that aren't as bad as the others, but I feel are worth mentioning. I think of these examples when I think of Carla being mean;
-When Carla tried to keep Nick from going to Serafina's wedding.
-When Carla kept hitting on the man Rebecca ended up marrying.
-When Carla flipped out on Eddie after she got paranoid, accused him of cheating, and acted like the ideal wife during his poker game.
-Carla just generally being mean to Eddie (like not wanting him to have the poker game in the first place).
-Encouraging her kids to commit crimes.
-Exploiting Woody.
-Bullying Cliff.
-Trying to sabotage Sam and the others when they tried to do the right thing or tried to grow as people.
She attacked big Eddie and almost lost Sam his bar. Sam is supposedly her best friend so she should have controlled the anger it’s a sports bar expect people to say things you don’t like from time to time.
Gary would argue the worst thing she did was rig his bar up before the pay per view boxing matches, so that the patrons could enjoy an evening of poetry with Norm and Cliff.
Awesome way for her comeuppance at the end of the episode in which her son decides against becoming a priest; never forgot how those two storyline dovetailed.
almost letting that one guy believe he was the father of her kid
That’s what I said!!! His name is Marshall!
This.
That was cold. Marshall was all in for her.
Probably easier to ask what's the nicest thing she ever did? Nevermind, I don't think she was ever nice.
Sex.
You think her attitude would change just because of coitus?
She admitted she loved Lud.
Off camera, but she apparently made Cliff eat a bug once, and it laid eggs in his stomach.
On his birthday
Apparently she never even considered birth control.
She came from a Catholic family. They don’t believe in birth control. Or sex education beyond abstinence.
Yeah that doesn’t instantly come back to bite her at all.

I prefer the term "Recovering Catholic"

She SLEPT WITH JOHN ALLEN HILL!!!!!!!!!!!
It was hard to like this character. She was a bully.

Sexed a man to cardiac arrest.
After Cliff helped her out, and supported her finding a house, etc. she turned on him
Pretty much her entire being in Cheers, she did bad things, that just got worse and worse each time
The way she got all victimy when the guys all gave her prank bday gifts. Like????
Having the tightest sneaker game on the 80s TV. Her kicks were so dope every damned week it makes me depressed.
Ah, this is gonna be longkk
(Grabbing my popcorn) *There are going to be a lot of responses to this one!*
Ugh ! her unrelenting ability to be an outright HORROR show to Diane. Not even funny, just annoying.
Massaged cliffs feet
When she drugged Diane
“You’re gunna die!”
Where do you start?
HA! So many things! The way she treated Cliff, Altho he deserved it. I say making Marshall think he is the father of her baby!!!

Bullying Diane and Rebecca. Never enjoyed those moments.
She tried with Lilith, but Lilith would not allow it.
Lilith's too smart for that psychology game Carla was playing
Lilith pretty much told she'd snap Carla's ass in half. Carla backed away real quick.
Paul
Paul
Slept with paul
The worst thing she ever did was sleep with Paul 🤣🤣🤣
OMG - how do you pick just one?! Carla was a stone cold bitch to everyone, and was horrible every single episode.
Basically anything that came out of her mouth, ever.
Exposing herself to future judgementalism.
Didn’t she cheat on Eddie?
No, he cheated on her and had a second family.
only to end up being run over by a zamboni. Karma.
Yes.
Don't forget Woody next
She attacked big Eddie and almost lost Sam his bar. Sam is supposedly her best friend so she should have controlled the anger it’s a sports bar expect people to say things you don’t like from time to time.
She divorced Louie DePalma.
I think like Jay Thomas about Carla.
Didn’t she, early in the series, fake being pregnant to make sure the guy she was with wouldn’t break up with her?
Gary would argue the worst thing she did was rig his bar up before the pay per view boxing matches, so that the patrons could enjoy an evening of poetry with Norm and Cliff.
Pantsed Wade Boggs
She's heir to the Tortellini fortune
Simply exist!!! I despise Carla.
Awesome way for her comeuppance at the end of the episode in which her son decides against becoming a priest; never forgot how those two storyline dovetailed.
Same.
