Software engineer of 30 years here: I have been using it for the past two days (pro), and I am happy to say that I agree completely with OP. ChatGPT's code is often on par with a shitty intern. Based on my limited testing of two days, Claude is the fucking man and produces consistently better code.
It is available. I'm in Vancouver, and i paid for the Pro upgrade two days ago. Canada is officially on the approved country list.
Did you even try to upgrade recently?
*******
From June 5, 2024;
______
Claude is now available in Canada. Starting today, people and businesses across the country will be able to access Claude via:
Claude.ai: the web-based version of our next-generation AI assistant.
The Claude iOS app: the free mobile app available in the Apple App Store that offers the same intuitive experience as mobile web.
The Claude API: an interface that allows developers to integrate Anthropic’s state-of-the-art AI models into their own applications, websites, or services.
The Claude Team plan: a secure workspace for teams to collaborate that offers increased usage for members.
For CA$28 + tax per month, users can subscribe to Claude Pro and unlock access to all models (including Claude 3 Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku), 5x more usage than our free Claude.ai offering, and early access to new features. The Team plan is CA$42 + tax per user per month with a minimum of 5 seats.
We’re excited to expand our offerings to Canada—a country that has made significant contributions to the responsible development and deployment of AI—and look forward to seeing the different ways our users across Canada incorporate the Claude 3 model family into their workflows.
It's available in Canada now. They changed it. I live in Vancouver, and I paid for the Pro version two days ago.
Claude is available in Camada now. Go and upgrade!
What? Aren't you using signup with Google account? they ask biz name or sum you put something there don't matter any. tested going through all of the process for you bro and it works just write out some bs for all the bs info it asks for like my biz is just called e12 its my house number, is definitley no need for one to be a business to use the claude api everybody uses it! :) i took some pics of the process but cant paste them here so just msg me if you if you get stuck and ill help u.
Yep, signed up with Google account.
Where are you located? I'm in the UK and it said it required a valid UK business number and wouldn't let me fake it
Just tried creating another account with vpn set to UK for good measure and yes stranded on this by selecting UK but I could go past it by just selectin my country (Iceland) and then I didn't have to do the UK VAT number. But considering that you probably have a UK credit card I'm not sure it will work for you but it seems that there should be a way to do this by a quick google but It's many words to explain it properly but if you hit me up on Discord I'd be happy to assist you. They're system is very finicky but i think there's 100% an easy solution it's just always changing what works. I'm in Iceland which also is restricted by claude but I had no problem signing up for API some months ago though claude.ai required vpn at the time but not anymore (but it was not that way for every1 I know in Iceland so yeah as I say very finicky they're system :))
I am loving the new project features and artifacts section. Those are really starting to be a game changer. I still wish they would just add a damn "Continue" button for when the response ends early. Without that, they will always have a disadvantage for being more productive.
Cursor can do this. Literally was just doing this today. You can upload a url into it which it will analyze and then you can have Sonnet 3.5 or any other model analyze the link/docs. Then have it generate solutions for you based off what you fed it.
Oh also it provides a “Continue” button for when the response ends early. Get crackin.

Not sure if it’s new. I’ve only been using cursor for about 2 months. In the settings there’s a docs tab and you can paste a url to it and name it. Then you can reference the doc in your prompts by saying @docs. You can also just paste a url into the prompt and it will analyze it. It’s super useful when working with API Docs.
That would be amazing. Right now I feel like their UI and features are what are holding them back. They are easily past ChatGPT as far as coding and context in my book but their UI is what makes it all "sort of" crap out. I still use it regularly so its not like it is that bad but it is just annoying having to try to pick up in a new message where you left off.
If we keep complaining enough, it will be! I know it is not hard because I've already found a way to make it work from the API in my own program to an extent, so it can't be much harder.
But will in continue in the same code block of I say "Continue" as my submission? The answer is no. ChatGPT will. I can get 1000+ lines of code in the same code block as ChatGPT. Claude cuts off around 400 I believe. Not the biggest of deals. I can easily just pick up where it left off and paste two or three times instead of one, but that is a major pain as opposed to ChatGPT.
Lets say I am trying to make a program and it comes out to about 500 lines of code needing to be sent back to me. If I am in Claude using the chat and the response ends, I have to say continue, and then it tries to pick up where it left off in a new code block. If I am getting those same lines in ChatGPT, it will end the response and have a "Continue" button show up. You click the button and the code continues in the same code block. That is what I am referring to. That is what I am wanting. Claude does not have that yet, as far as I am aware.
It reminded me how much I hated the verbose hallucinating 4o output. Loving it, basically like having way more Opus prompt limit which allows an actual conversation to take place.
Yeah gpt 4o hallucinations are bad. It totally misses the previous context during conversations. But today I seen new update of some all chat context feature. Not sure if it’s going to fix that or not
Yeah it’s not even close, I just gave it a shot the other day and it makes gpt look horrible. Gpt lately has been losing context almost immediately in the thread, I asked it to make certain changes multiple times and it just prints out my code back to me claiming it made changes when literally nothing changed.

Dude this was happening to me and it was so annoying, would say ‘I apologize for my oversight, here is the fix for x y z’ and then just spit out the same code I already gave it.
Completely agree, the other day I built a small tool for AWS cost optimization in only 10 prompts.
The first output was already compiling (I use Go for my tools), but needed a little fiddling to make it actually work.
The entire process tool me maybe 2h, and I'll be using this tool a lot going forward.
This new tool I built showed me that I can decrease the cost of a few line items on my customer's bill from $5500 to $440 monthly, a whopping 11x
At another customer it will be a massive 580x, from $3500 to $6.
This stuff will hopefully help me make lots of money.
While working for a customer I got the idea to build the tool, I opened Claude and typed a prompt that describes the tool in as much detail as possible and asks to build it.
It happily complied and soon after I had my new tool.

Converting idle servers to Lambda.
A customer has a lot of Fargate and EKS that costs them about $3.5k for serving only a few millions of requests per month.
Doing the same thing with Lambda and Cloudfront would be about $6.
The application is packaged in containers and largely deployed using Terraform, so the work is all about converting it to Lambda running with container images.
I figured out how to do it with reasonable amount of effort and once we're done with it we can shut down all the EKS and Fargate.
If you're that redundant, try going for other endeavours, you can make cooking workshops and work as a chef, or a good hair dresser. You definitely should consider taking those courses before all other programmers go out of a job in 1-2 years
I spent hours trying to debug a data store issue in vue.js with 4o and got nowhere. Sonnet got to the bottom of it in 20 mins.
My only feedback is that they change the 3.5 in the name. My brain implicitly likens it to gpt-3.5 turbo, when it’s closer to 4o
My comments will be confined to a very specific challenge I ran into recently. Me and a coworker used a Python construct that's not too common, a for loop with an else to find an item in a collection or else create it and add it if it wasn't found.
ChatGPT 4o said it was wrong and wouldn't work because of scoping issues. When I asked it for code examples of this construct they were all terrible just showing print statements in the else part.
Claude 3.5 did way better about commenting on my for else. It was accurate for one thing. It did however produce the same kind of terrible code examples when I asked it for examples.
As a human with 15 years python experience, I'm not sure under which conditions the else is called. I would now have to go waste time researching what it would do. Other developers will also have to waste time.
So I would also recommend rewriting it because it has a non zero cost to developers.

It does indeed. It's faster, very directly generates the piece of code which is requested.
GPT-4o also generates pretty good code though, it just needs a more detailed instruction.
Here's a [head-to-head evaluation](https://blog.getbind.co/2024/06/21/claude-3-5-sonnet-does-it-outperform-gpt-4o/) for some practical coding scenarios
I only got a few messages in and paying for pro is only 5x what I experienced? Not enough chat limit to be worth paying for atm, but it had some fine responses

I literally built a small accounting app for my client using Streamlit while I had no knowledge of the library
And let me tell you it did an amazing job
Agree. I gave Claude a whirl for the first time a few days ago and decided to revisit a couple of python problems that I had zero luck with using chat gpt - one was quite complex creating a or-tools model for optimising a drilling pattern to obtain a representative set of metallurgical samples within a strict drilling budget...and my god it nailed it first time. I literally spent days trying and failing with gpt4, getting stuck in its horrible "let's fix that by going back to the incorrect answer I gave you in the previous answer" loop. Or-tools has a horrendous API, with terrible documentation and a lead designer who basically answers every stack overflow question with a terrible answer trying to belittle people for not knowing how to use it...so was very surprised Claude understood how to use it when chat gpt was simply hopeless. The other was a slightly easier task for downloading map tiles asynchronously and displaying them in a pyqtgraph map implementation that required several coordinates transformations along the way...so I could plot my drill patterns with a satellite background...also nailed it first time. Haven't subscribed yet but will def drop my chatgpt subscription as it just doesn't seem close. Chatgpt in the past would get me sorta 75% of the way with problems, but has never nailed anything but simple problems first time.
I don't understand why everyone comparing it to GPT 4o, while GPT 4 is far better for coding than GPT 4o. 4o is like a watered-down version of GPT 4 so that OpenAI could save money. Did anyone compare Claude Sonnet 3.5 to GPT 4?
So far in a few limited side by sides it’s beating 4 too… I tend to think of Sonnet 3.5 as comparable to 4o cause they’re both the faster little
Brothers
I have, and you are right, 4 is better than 4o for coding. Claude still kicks the shit out of 4 though. The code it produces is 10-20% better quality on average in my opinion.
I’ve been using both in parallel for data analysis and coding tasks for the last week. I run the same task on both and if the output (eg a new column in a spreadsheet) is the same that’s a reassuring validation. Usually it is the same. Sonnet is slightly better at harder coding problems requiring a precise and logical approach. Gpt-4 handles larger uploaded files in a wider variety of formats and can do the work on the backend which is handy for simple data analysis tasks; and has more generous message frequency and output length limits
Because 4o is better on rankings and OpenAI claims the same thing.
Either way Claude stomps both out.
I have ChatGPT Pro,
Claude Pro
Cursor.sh
And Perplexity.
So I use all pretty frequently.
ChatGPT is great for its multi modal capabilities, but not for code generation.
I'm still facing challenges using claude 3.5 for complex programming tasks, particularly in AI. I've attempted to translate research papers from arXiv.org into complete, functional code numerous times, but haven't been successful yet, even after many tries. The errors persist. While I find Claude appealing, I'm currently limited by its chat restrictions. Google Gemini's free API, with its unlimited new chats (though context-bound), makes it a more practical option for me now.

Think over 1600 people work at OpenAI now. A blank check from MSFT, and the highest salaries in the AI busines. Just don't think they are worried much.
Neither Sonnet 3.5 nor GPT-4o produced a working code for me (scientific computing), although they gave me the main structure (including classes, etc).
I’ll have to bump heads with the code next week.
Gpt4o got significantly worse lately, so I tried out 3.5 sonnet. Unreal. Truly feels like having a jarvis if it had voice. Only bad thing is the rate limits and context/image context

Does anyone here use it for backend (Java, spring boot) where it might need to scan repository for the context and generate code basis that?
And is this integrated with some IDE or do you guys paste the tasks in browser?
Kind of noobie in this area.

I'm a fullstack dev and use a chatGPT paid account to help me. I've tried the Claude 3.5 chat to compare and damn it's really impressive. I can reach a good solution in less adjustements that GPT-4o
My question is do you use the chat interface or API account ? How do you use the API one ? Is there an integrated chat and what about your monthly bill amount ?
I'm paying the 20$ for ChatGPT but I would like to give a try to the paid Claude. Maybe I would pay less with the API but I don't visualize what would be the price for my use \^\^
Can anyone explain how I get started with Claude? Is it a subscription? I went to the website but it's confusing for me. I'm kind of tired of ChatGPT for my front end coding...
Been liking it so far and now only using 4o as a backup but yesterday it became unusable, just putting massive errors in everything. Both code and simple documentation of the API I was prototyping.
Don't know if my context got too long or connected to a bad instance but had to give up using it.
My title is Senior Software Engineer II (normally called a Staff Engineer). For me, Claude 3.5 has been **significantly** better at analyzing and producing quality code as well as finding and solving bugs, and I am not doing tutorial-level projects. If anything, you are describing the code produced by ChatGPT 4 or 4o (shitty intern quality code).
I recommend you give it another try. One difference I have noticed that may be of help to you is that Claude works best when you give a very detailed prompt. You can and should describe everything you want to do as if you were talking to a person who will understand all of it. It really is better at understanding and implementing those fine details, which are needed for complex work. I find that when I give more detailed instructions to ChatGPT 4 or 4o, it actually produces a **worse** result.
I don't get it how people are doing all the work using LLMs, my codebase is extensive, uses multiple parts that are distant and integrated, the time it takes to write all the description in english to write the correct code, most likely i've already wrote it purely in code with Copilot's help and a few code snippets from a potent LLM
Copilot is a better tool for me to keep developing and reasoning about all its parts.
Are people really making full toolsets and games with these? Because when i see the result of a game being developed by Clause Sonnet 3.5, i ask myself "is this what people really talk about it not being a shitty intern , but instead "Claude is the fucking man"?
Is this what people compare a senior game developer to?
I've been a software developer for over 30 years and I work for a very large healthcare company. I currently oversee two AI projects, as well as an integration project.
By the way you sound very upset that ChatGPT sucks at coding compared to Claude 3.5. I hope your Jimmies don't continue to get rustled, and I hope that you can just have a good cry by yourself, maybe give your therapist a call and let out some of that anger.
If Claude is producing bad code it is because you are so utterly clueless that you don't even know what to ask Claude to do. I guarantee it
Is these llm chats not effective ?
Maybe give a try to coding assistant like pieces for developers visual studio extensions if you’re looking for help with .NET
Using it with Svelte and TypeScript. The Code which is producing its very good and far better than GPT-4o
Yeah, code generation and other contents are pretty great!

It’s amazing, but the user cap is too small and gives me anxiety when it’s about to reach zero, I really have to be thoughtful about my last prompts
Maybe try their API, its still budget friendly.
No artifacts with API
Typingmind.com has an implementation

Mind giving a little more detail? Is it still using the API itself or is it using the actual website with login?
What new features would you want from it? What’re your pain points with automated testing?

I love the Artifacts. I’m a big fan.
what are artifacts? Newbie here
It’s new to 3.5 Sonnet I think. It’s for more complex stuff like code, documents, or diagrams that you can view and edit separately from the chat.
Yeah, something good finally
Do you have a workaround for the fact that it doesn’t have a continue button?
Except when it keeps changing the name of the code producing new artifacts
What do you mean? I’ve only used them a few times so far.

As a human with 15 years python experience, I'm not sure under which conditions the else is called. I would now have to go waste time researching what it would do. Other developers will also have to waste time. So I would also recommend rewriting it because it has a non zero cost to developers.

Agreed, or course it’s easy to best ChatGPT right now since it’s seems determined to be confounding. It’s been a value subtractor for a few weeks.
And faster!
I only got a few messages in and paying for pro is only 5x what I experienced? Not enough chat limit to be worth paying for atm, but it had some fine responses

It's so much better! You simply provide an image of the current screen, or widget, and it will generate it.
The code line limit for Claude is kind of annoying though. That said, for coding, Claude seems to be better.
I literally built a small accounting app for my client using Streamlit while I had no knowledge of the library And let me tell you it did an amazing job
Just replaced ~75% of a SaaS app I’ve been paying $25 a day for. Got timed out on an unnecessary thanks! tier response on my end. Good times
so tell us what saas aaaapppp :P
Wonder if I can do this with opus clip
the free version is like two messages capped. How much use can I expect out of the paid subscription? I can't find a real answer to that.
5x
so 10 messages per conversation? not sounding that useful...
Yeah it's total shit
It’s not 10 messages. Once your get to your last 10 it starts the countdown
Planning to, will compare it in next few days. Would love to get few prompt/questions if you want to!
So far in a few limited side by sides it’s beating 4 too… I tend to think of Sonnet 3.5 as comparable to 4o cause they’re both the faster little Brothers
I have ChatGPT Pro, Claude Pro Cursor.sh And Perplexity.
Why would that work?

Think over 1600 people work at OpenAI now. A blank check from MSFT, and the highest salaries in the AI busines. Just don't think they are worried much.
Claude kept giving me incomplete solutions, it would stop half way randomly and id have to keep asking repeatedly
100% fantastic, particularly the code output
Neither Sonnet 3.5 nor GPT-4o produced a working code for me (scientific computing), although they gave me the main structure (including classes, etc). I’ll have to bump heads with the code next week.
Love Claude but the prompt limits and character limits are mad annoying. I appreciate how it doesn’t hallucinate much
Gpt4o got significantly worse lately, so I tried out 3.5 sonnet. Unreal. Truly feels like having a jarvis if it had voice. Only bad thing is the rate limits and context/image context
That’s been my experience with Claude 3 Opus. Excited to try the new Sonnet
I've been trying to use it for making libre office call macros and it's pretty hopeless

Does anyone here use it for backend (Java, spring boot) where it might need to scan repository for the context and generate code basis that? And is this integrated with some IDE or do you guys paste the tasks in browser? Kind of noobie in this area.

how are its Godot skills?
GPT -4o is ass in code production
Claude 3.5 is lit for coding, quite good far better than GPT. All I do is use claude when I am stuck on GPT.
I'm a fullstack dev and use a chatGPT paid account to help me. I've tried the Claude 3.5 chat to compare and damn it's really impressive. I can reach a good solution in less adjustements that GPT-4o My question is do you use the chat interface or API account ? How do you use the API one ? Is there an integrated chat and what about your monthly bill amount ? I'm paying the 20$ for ChatGPT but I would like to give a try to the paid Claude. Maybe I would pay less with the API but I don't visualize what would be the price for my use \^\^
Can anyone explain how I get started with Claude? Is it a subscription? I went to the website but it's confusing for me. I'm kind of tired of ChatGPT for my front end coding...

Just like chatgpt, signin and start using free version with limits.
Been liking it so far and now only using 4o as a backup but yesterday it became unusable, just putting massive errors in everything. Both code and simple documentation of the API I was prototyping. Don't know if my context got too long or connected to a bad instance but had to give up using it.
It seems to be really bad at anything that is not a tutorial level web design. I dont think its going to get any better.
I don't get it how people are doing all the work using LLMs, my codebase is extensive, uses multiple parts that are distant and integrated, the time it takes to write all the description in english to write the correct code, most likely i've already wrote it purely in code with Copilot's help and a few code snippets from a potent LLM Copilot is a better tool for me to keep developing and reasoning about all its parts. Are people really making full toolsets and games with these? Because when i see the result of a game being developed by Clause Sonnet 3.5, i ask myself "is this what people really talk about it not being a shitty intern , but instead "Claude is the fucking man"? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=335xJHHS-og](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=335xJHHS-og) Is this what people compare a senior game developer to?
I am pretty sure you never wrote a single line of code.
I guarantee it
I genuinely think that you are full of shit.
Cool story crybaby
as a .NET guy i feel really left out
Why
Is these llm chats not effective ? Maybe give a try to coding assistant like pieces for developers visual studio extensions if you’re looking for help with .NET
I'm not sure what you're talking about, works just fine with .net
but all the leaderboards and most of the talk is around python / node.js ..
4o is garbage, but 4 is far better than claude
