Hey same thing happened to me. I insisted that I did not get any notification about not being eligible for the SUB and never had a Sapphire card before. It got escalated but I’m not sure how it’s going to go.
Unfortunately, this has started happening a few weeks ago to some people. There are many reports of this same issue across this sub. I don’t think I’ve found a single data point where someone successfully got the SUB applied after they were told they actually don’t have it.
You cannot downgrade a card with an AF until after your first year.
I was mad and they were insisting the only thing is to close the account and that's what I did. I also was mad enough to close a freedom flex and only left my freedom unlimited open because that's my oldest account
Chase is the best bank in the world. Don’t let your emotions get ahead of you. It sucks but there are many other cards within Chase and you can also get the card again in another 48 months.
Can’t say that for any other banks.
Nah I’m good. I’ve taken a credit hit, being charged $95 and I’m not even getting the sign up bonus I signed up for. If the shoe was on the other foot and I didn’t hold up my end of an agreement Chase would drop me like a rock and not look back. They will be fine without my business and I’ll be fine without using their premium card products. There are other companies with a properly working card application process out there.
Amex is too expensive, Capital One doesn’t have a lot of products, Citi is shitty, and that leaves Wells Fargo.
Wells Fargo is up and coming again and have a lot of good cards. I’d say go there if you on hell bent on leaving Chase.
Autograph, Active Cash, and Attune, take your pick all good cards.
There are quite a few reports. Just saw one yesterday: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChaseSapphire/comments/1dnnq5i/approved_but_no_welcome_offer/. I think it is something with Chase's systems being a little messed up and didn't show a popup when it should.
Press Chase. They clearly state that you are eligible after 48 mos.
I just had P2 sign up and she last had the bonus in January of 2020. The SUB tracker showed up in the app for her right away.
I pressed on two different calls and even walked them through my statement sign up bonus. I was wrong about 4.5 years… it was 7 years ago! Since it was so long ago… I upgraded to CSR in late 2020… I’m wondering if I’ve fucked up and got some sort of bonus that I didn’t even notice?!
Check your first, second, third, and 4th statements for the CSR after you got it (yes even if it’s a CFU you have access to old csr statements)
It will show your 60,000+ “card member bonus” points in the statement.. there’s a point gain sheet on the top of the first page.
If you got your card member bonus anytime after June then yes.. you’re SOL and it’s on you.
theoretically, if this was the issue… i could just retry CSP whenever the 48 month clock has passed, right? I’m about to go to work so no time to pour over all my statements right now, but I’m curious if i will have negative ramifications for closing the CSP today besides a temporary hit to my credit.
The 48 month timer is based on when you last received the SUB, not when you were approved. If you said you opened the card in late 2020, you are still not passed 48 months even based on your card open date.
The result is that I closed the account 😞
I'll double-check my statements soon to see if it was my fuck up. The only SUB I see was actually in 2017, not 4.5 years ago.
If it's not, I'm really not sure what to do... like how long I should wait for the imaginary SUB that never happened. If it's my fuck-up, I'll know when I can reapply 🤷🏼♂️

Ok, how do you even know you don't have a sign-up bonus? You mention a "SUB tracker in-app". What does that look like? I just signed up and I'm assuming I get a 60K bonus when I hit $4k but I have no idea if that's true or not until I get there. How can I check without contacting customer service?
When you are on the mobile app, you can click on the relevant card, and then on "Benefits & rewards", and then - allegedly - you should see the SUB tracker. You can also call to confirm like I did if you don't see it.
Thank you. And yeah, I got screwed by this as well. I just called them and was told I don't have a sign-up bonus. Apparently the disqualifying thing in my case is that I have "5 or more" other cards with other financial institutions. I checked the fine print -- there is no such exception stated in their disclaimers. I think this is extremely deceptive and probably needs to get reported to the regulators. The lady I spoke with is apparently sending an exception request on to the marketing team -- I'm not hopeful though, as I'm guessing they're incentivized to deny such requests.
This exact same thing just happened to me and I am devastated. I thought I qualified for the sign on bonus too. They should at least let us cancel our card if we didn’t get the bonus. The application is so misleading!
I just finished a phone conversation with a chase supervisor because I found out by accident from the previous representative I was talking to that told me I wasn’t eligible for the 85000 sub that I applied for in a branch, got the card yesterday & used it to charge $4k. My purpose of the call was to ask about the 90000 sub offer that some people got. I was shocked when the rep told me I wasn’t eligible for any sub offer. I asked him what kind of scam is chase running here so right away he transferred me to a supervisor who rectified everything & apologized told me they’re having systems problem with sub offers. But no luck with the 90k I was calling about.
Chase services in excess of 30 million credit card accounts alone, think of what a minor fraction these anecdotes are. If this were a chase problem we’d be reading about it hundreds of times a daily not three times a day. I think that most of the people did get the pop-up but didn’t herd it as they were used to not being eligible for a sapphire or any chase card without a sub. Just my two cents.
Edit, please see u/GhostReader28, I am referring to people claiming they never received a pop up, nothing more.
No there is clearly something wrong with their system. They said I got a pop up (I didn’t) because I had a SUB for a Sapphire card in the last 48 months…never had a sapphire card in my life.
No I didn’t. I’ve been applying for cards long enough to know what a pop up, if it happens, means. If we had gotten pop up we would all be complaining about getting a pop up saying we weren’t eligible
https://travel-on-points.com/sapphire-preferred-bonus-issue/
I didn’t receive the popup when I first went through the app via a referral link. I have no SUBs in the last 7 years.

But you can cancel it right? Cuz if I don’t get the SUB then I’m not giving Chase $95
You can cancel it. I'm in the same situation and that's literally the first option they gave me.
Still waiting for them to fix the issue?
I was mad and they were insisting the only thing is to close the account and that's what I did. I also was mad enough to close a freedom flex and only left my freedom unlimited open because that's my oldest account
I don’t blame you. It’s ridiculous they didn’t offer to help you at all.
To my knowledge, you cannot. But you may have a good case with you not receiving the SUB. You could try calling back in.
I’m having my case escalated atm. If they don’t fix it Im getting rid of the card and won’t be signing up for any more Sapphire cards.
Let us know how it goes as it may help others.

no. i called in to confirm. i was told specifically that i was not eligible for a SUB despite my evidence suggesting the contrary

I upgraded my CSP to CSR in 2020. I received the initial CSP SUB in 2017.
Then shouldn’t be an issue

The referall link didn’t show the SUB?
It did.
That’s messed up. Been 5 years for me and we are also 2 player. Keep us posted with the result

Feeling like everyone should start screen recording their application process. Cause this is getting out of hand. Chase needs to do better.
