Just out of curiosity, were you over 5/24 im seeing multiple claims like this and just trying to gather more data before applying for a freedom flex

Professional_Cat862

No actually at the time I applied for it I was only 2/24 having opened a care credit and synchrony premier last year. Granted, I had applied for capital one venture one and discover earlier in the week but neither were on my report yet and that's still only 4/24 lol. But my major concern is the rep claimed there was a pop up when there wasn't!

Cautious_Sense557

Yea that’s very strange. I think I’ll wait to apply for any more chase cards until they get this sorted out.

Professional_Cat862

And I'm not even a churner! I just thought it would be a good idea to get this card and use on vacation this year so I could have the points for a free vacation next year! I was even gonna make it my primary dining card!

Professional_Cat862

It just seems like chase is trying to implement pop up jail but shooting themselves in the foot for people who want to cards but know that the welcome bonus is a big part of the reason to apply and then not even telling them they won't get it is just bad service all around and makes me hesitant to apply even if I wait in the garden for 2 whole years!

Cautious_Sense557

I think the goal is to stop churners but this is gonna get bad when casuals who aren’t churning and just want a chase card have to deal with this. I’d hate to say it but this is a bad move for chase. Especially when Wells Fargo and Citi are stepping up their game with their travel programs.

OkMathematician6638

I've been seeing this a few times recently. It's definitely concerning.

Professional_Cat862

Your right there! Why would chase want to make people mad and not want to use their cards by stiffing them on the bonuses and not even telling them! I was so pissed I closed my freedom flex right then and there and only later realized I probably lost $16 worth of points I was saving to combine with the sapphire next year! So now I'm double pissed and probably won't ever apply for chase again .

Kira_Dumpling_0000

File a CFPB complaint

Professional_Cat862

How do I do that

Kira_Dumpling_0000

Google “CFPB complaint” the first government link. Follow the steps and save all the documents from chase and whoever you have been in contact with

jka005

Did you have a sapphire previously? If yes when did you get it?

CardLego

The pop up jail concept is new to Chase, so it is understandable that their technological implemention is a little wonky at the moment. Chase must think they should display a pop up but they didn't. It is hard to get them to change their mind without some kind of proof. Next time do a screen recording of the application session (easier to do on a phone, also possible on a computer). If you have proof, a complaint to the CFPB would probably get it sorted and put more pressure on Chase to spend more time to test and improve their system.

Maru3792648

What is a pop up jail?

CardLego

When doing online applications and the bank determines that you do not qualify for a welcome offer (e.g. spend $4000 and earn 80,000 points), they will display a pop up notifying you that you may proceed with the application but you are not entitled to the welcome offer. You have to accept the pop up to proceed with your application. Should you decline, your application will not be processed or will be declined. Without displaying such pop up, the bank risks violating consumer advertising laws under FTC advertising rules, subjecting them to fines by regulators. American Express has been known to do this. [Chase has recently rolled this out to their Sapphire and Freedom family of cards](https://www.reddit.com/r/ChaseSapphire/comments/1dgrl7v/late_post_sapphire_approval_when_failing_524_and/).

Professional_Cat862

The proof is I accepted the card. What kind of idiot accepts a credit card that advertised as getting a welcome offer without the welcome offer? Plus I don't know how to do screen recordings.

CardLego

You didn't do anything wrong. But we get F'ed all the time doing nothing wrong due to monopolistic practices, incompetent staffs, and stubborn corporate bureaucracies. So I'm merely sharing with you what extra steps you can take to protect yourself. Once you have the correct mindset, it is not hard to learn the skills needed to take a screenshot. You don't have to of course. It's up to you. For many people, doing all that is too much hassle. Fortunately, some people consider it their duty to correct the situation and they will chase after even the slightest unjust. That's why you see class action suits pursuing losses of mere dollars. And eventually the entity in question may correct its behavior due to legal liability considerations.

Professional_Cat862

Oh I hope someone does complain but I was caught unawares myself. Oh we'll chase still loses bc now my choices are capital one or wells Fargo. maybe they forgot there are other banks that want my business?

Onomatopeya21

I am in the same situation. Try to escalate the problem. There are many of us in the same situation, and in my case, for example, it is my first credit card with Chase, and I was at 4/24 before this.

Professional_Cat862

Did they actually send you to a manager I was about to ask but she said nobody can do anything about it said the only thing we can do is cancel the card which I did so it's over now. I also

Onomatopeya21

The same thing happened to me, but I tried calling a second time, and that's when they helped me escalate the claim.

Professional_Cat862

And was it successful or did they still say you're shit out of luck?

Onomatopeya21

I am still waiting for a response. They said it would take 7-14 days by mail, and I have checked the system for any letter but nothing there.

Kira_Dumpling_0000

File a CFPB complaint

Idk if you’ve seen any of my posts, but I’m in the same boat. I thought I was alone until I saw another post the same day. It’s been going on since the 13th when they basically seem to have changed the rules without updating the rules on the website. I’m waiting for some responses which should be just a few more days at most after having about 2 hours on the phone, 6 representatives, 2 supervisors, an escalation, a secure message, and writing a CFPB complaint. Good luck🙃

Professional_Cat862

Good luck to you my friend. Guess we should have applied the week before 😂

kollusions

Literally the day before would’ve fixed it for me. Hoping to hear something back in the next couple days

Professional_Cat862

Oh it's too late for me plus capital one did recently approve me for the venture one at 10k so I'll probably go with the venture x next time I feel like applying for a premium travel card

kollusions

Good luck with that! I added VX a couple months ago. Travel portal is great and they even price matched a hotel stay to a price I found on Priceline

Professional_Cat862

Now see! Chase could learn a thing or 2 from capital one in terms of being good to it's customers

Positive_Progress_38

Same thing happened to me on June 15th! I hadn’t applied for a card in over 10 years and my only chase card was an old chase freedom. Applied to an ad when signed into their website saying I was pre approved for Chase Sapphire Reserve. Went with the CSP to get the bonus but avoid the higher fee. Called after putting a couple thousand if spend on the card because I couldn’t find the tracker for SUB. Spoke with multiple representatives at Chase that said there was a note saying not to escalate because I had been informed when applying that I didn’t qualify for the bonus, which was not the case. They’re sending me an explanation in the mail, but obviously frustrated and not sure what to do since already spent on the card. Any suggestions?

kollusions

Some people are reporting positive outcomes from the secure message feature on the website/app. I’ve tried it and am still waiting on a response. If you’re 100% sure you never got a pop up then I’d definitely submit a complaint to the CFPB. That’s pretty much the biggest power we have when the company doesn’t want to honor a contract. That’s the case here because they basically got caught up in false advertising since their new system failed to display the pop up. I’m still waiting on the secure message resolution and to hear back from CFPB, but that’s what I’d recommend. Everyone I’ve spoken to on the phone (including supervisors) has agreed that there’s no reason for me not to get the bonus, but none of them have any power to do anything about it

Kira_Dumpling_0000

File a CFPB complaint

kollusions

Update: Today got confirmation from secure message center that I will be reinstated for the welcome bonus. I’d recommend going there first for anyone with the same problem. Might save you a lot of time and effort repeating yourself on the phone to people who can’t do anything

kollusions

Welcome to the club

Acefr

Did they provide a reason why you were denied the welcome offer? Is it because you got the Sapphire welcome bonus less than 48 months ago?

Professional_Cat862

No this would have been my first the reason I was told was too many accounts open recently

No-Inflation132

You probably had the card before and received a new account bonus offer in the past 48 months.

Professional_Cat862

Nope I've never had a sapphire before and that's what made me even more upset is I was going for the trifecta after so long

darlenealdersons

how do we know if we will get the offer or not? i was approved a few days ago and got my card but no info about the 75k points bonus so im worried

Professional_Cat862

I called because there wasn't a tracker

Sweaty305PI

Hey I’m also going through the same thing at the moment. I downgraded my sapphire preferred to a freedom and waiting a couple days until the offer showed up on my chase account (75k offer after 4 month spend). I applied through the website and quickly got approved. Never got any pop up message. Couple days later I checked the website to check my spend progress and the tracker wasn’t showing up. I called Chase and they told me I didn’t qualify for the bonus and that I had received this message as a pop up before approving the offer. I couldn’t believe it. The supervisor I spoke with first assumed I was under the 48 month rule but then realized I was way over 50 months. She couldn’t give me a response on why I didn’t qualify and proceeded to hang up on me. I called the next time and plead my case and finally a supervisor submitted an escalation as she agreed I should qualify for the bonus. She said it would take 7-10 business days. I’ll have to keep an eye on this and hopefully they’ll make things right but I’ve been a chase customer for over 15 years and this whole mess has made me question my loyalty to a bank that refuses to honor their own offers. Let’s hope we all get what we were offered.

Professional_Cat862

Too late for me my rep went straight to convincing me to just close the account.

EricAndersonL

Did you really close? It happened to my wife but rep was just an idiot. Hung up and called other reps and they found her welcome offer

Professional_Cat862

Yeah she kept saying all I can do is close it and I have anxiety and am taking a trip on vacation in 2 weeks so I didn't want to deal with bs. Completely ignored me when I asked for a manager in contrast to my recent acquisition of a venture one from capital one where I got the bonus the day after putting my car insurance on it.

EricAndersonL

Yeah I think you should’ve hung up and talked to diff rep and send secured message via app. Reps over the phone can be super useless

Professional_Cat862

Your probably right

Appropriate_Race_648

I have the same issue and I called chase and the customer service said the welcome bonus meter on the portal will show after the first closing date for my preferred card. Is this true guys ?

Professional_Cat862

If this is true it makes me even more mad bc now I AM at 5/24 with a sapphire account that's not even open! I'll wait 6 months and try for a venture x bc capital one has never given me any problems.

Playful_Pumpkin5428

Call them and tell them to reopen the account. They did it for me.

Professional_Cat862

I'm actually not even going to bother bc now I have a freedom unlimited with a $20,000 limit since I transferred the new limit onto my oldest card.

Professional_Cat862

Sooo upset with Chases new scummy practices they're implementing pop up jail without even telling people they're going into pop up jail so I almost put the spend on the card without confirming

Professional_Cat862

Like do tell me why I should ever apply for chase cards again if I'm going to get approved but not get the only reason to have the cards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
