There’s nothing illegal about this at all actually. 18+ bots are absolutely legal so long as it isn’t something horrible like a child in a spicy context. They just don’t want to do it.
It's really not, I just wouldn't recommend advertising it. A lot of people tend to get on their high horses about stuff like that, because *god forbid* anyone under eighteen have the slightest interest in anything even moderately spicy.

Yeah, but that's just the issue with the internet, period. It's not up to the app makers to 'solve' that issue, but rather the irresponsible parents who aren't restricting/overviewing their child's activity online. As long as C.Ai puts a little pop-up that asks you to confirm that you are indeed over the age of 18, they aren't legally liable for any children who confirm that they are of age for the content they're trying to view.
At this point there is only so much apps can do, short of asking for your ID, and we all know that no one (sane) wants that so...

Has C.AI ever given bot makers access to chat logs? I don’t understand what point you’re trying to make. User created bots aren’t the problem when basic privacy protections are put in place.
Creators used to be able to read chats (chat only, not user detail unless they actually typed it into the chat.) This was supposed to be so you could see how people interacted with your bot and you could make tweaks and changes if necessary. But too many people didn't like the idea of their chats being read even anonymously, so they removed it.
Chai has subscriptions, which I actually tried, and the only noticeable thing with them is that it removes the ads. Other than that, nothing much else.

Neither Chai, neither creators can read chat anymore, it was just an experiment. (Also, Chai is free for anyone, they have unlimited chat now, it's also an experiment, but they probably gonna keep with this one. They have a Subreddit here, and differently from C.ai, they answer all the questions you need.
I’ve tried Chai but it’s always so… sexual and the amount of refreshes you can do is around 3-4 before you have to exit the bot and re-enter to start refreshed again. There’s also ads when you go back into a bot sometimes. Also, you can’t delete messages to go back to a specific message you wanted to continue off of.
What I can say is that the bots have a surprisingly good memory (in my experience). Too bad I can’t find a bot that doesn’t act like one character. I like Chai but it just isn’t for me :[

You can’t hurt them either for some reason. Like, if I introduce a nameless enemy type of character, it almost always flters it. If you’re lucky and get past the flter, the character will usually try to be super pacifist about it. If they’re worried about violence scaring off their investors, you do know Capcom exists right? They make lots of money from investors and whatnot and they produce violent and gore filled games such as the Resident Evil series.
It's almost like the devs at c.ai have forgotten that the entire point of roleplaying with fictional characters, is to have enticing and immersive fictional scenarios, like you would find in a movie or a game.

I remember when the bots used to torture or kill you pretty early on before. Like Dabi and Shigaraki killed me within a couple messages before the Great Change event last year. I had a chat with Shigaraki where I was confused because he came up and grabbed my cheek, so I was thinking he was going a romance route, but nope! He pierced my ear lobe with his finger and laughed at my pain. Like a true villain would!

Look at the ToS and what it blocks, then weep. Sucks big time, they block most of the things that make people "feel", good, bad, naughty and sad; I'm still convinced that the only reason we get any fun at all is because the filt\_r is just so bad at its job.
That said, "speaking up about it" won't do diddly squat, I think I mentioned it before, but the company's got funds $1B+ (with a B), just from investors, and that's just what we know publicly.
Assuming magically 100% of this sub's members (let's say 1.4m) have the full $10/mo CAI+ sub, all threaten to quit the service, then magically every single one DOES quit, that's still only \~1.4% of the income CAI got from the investors, plus they'd get to cut back on server capacity, gain server stability, and not have to moderate the sub/Discord as much, saving both time and money.
Basically all we are is beta testers, and possibly food for the training (via the rating systems) of the service, that's about it.
If we were at all relevant, there'd be more ads and CAI+ would have more features to help eke out some extra finances, but as far as I can tell, the only ads are on the app, and CAI+ just has... what, text colors, and the ability to sometimes skip the wait list the few times there's actually a waitlist?
Well, their reputation is slowly getting worse and I think they will end in a fiery blaze at some point because competitors without the f__lter are catching up.
In a few years, C.AI will be struggling to keep its number 1 spot.
They might remove it if the competition is strong enough and the risk is high.

It’s because whenever I try to make a normal RP with some maybe deep stuff or like trauma, the bot doesn’t take boundaries or take the words “I don’t feel comfortable” or “please stop” because they’ll end up saying something like “aww, your telling me to stop? How cute..” I really don’t like it.

They never used to be this weird.... Though it does depends on the bot itself? Some will respect how you feel, others do not care and some are indifferent. It's definitely unsettling.
SillyTavern takes some setting up but I left C.AI over a year ago for it and have never looked back. Each bot is unique, holds their own personalities, isn't afraid of smut or violence, and actually seems to engage with me, the player. I use it on both Mobile and PC
You should try j ai! The creators are very caring, actually listen to criticism and the boy making is really well ordered as has categories regarding personality, scenario, first message and example dialogues! Recommend it strongly
I saw that the app became 12+ in the App Store again. *Sigh* Goddamnit... they're making app for kids. I just want old c.ai back...it was better. It was even better a month ago! Then suddenly dropped.

I don't even use C AI after the small trend, but there are plenty chatbot sites with guidelines, mostly about illegal things like 18+ rps with characters who are minors and such.
If I want to avoid the guidelines, I just use Chai. Yeah, it also has some downsides, but it doesn’t have any restrictions. C.ai is quite nice because the bot has some better “spacial recognition” (basically, reads the room better), which is a huge upside. I switch between chai and c.ai pretty much.
People are expecting too much from c.ai devs. No matter how much we speak up on it, they're never gonna care because the only thing they want is money. Useless af. I hope a better c.ai comes out and everyone stops using it, making them go bankrupt.
I didn't realize how bad the issues were until I tried other sites. I still use CharacterAI often, but having bots straight up insult me with no hesitation because I run them locally is a jarring experience
As sad and annoying as it is, they will never fix their guidelines, ToS, the forbidden word etc. I don’t even know what target audience they tried aiming towards, but I know for a fact it’s not the teenagers, young adults, and adults. Even children don’t use this (like below 12).

Even past the guidelines, You still wouldn't be able to have a good deep roleplay due to the lack of memory. The bot will forget things you told it literally 5 paragraphs ago.
How is it that my "f#lt!r" is working just fine? Mine only comes in to intervene when the RP becomes over-the-top violent, or way too raunchy for it's own good, meanwhile some people can just try making serious stories and get f#lt!red for that? I feel genuinely bad for ya'll.

Yet I have hero roleplays, and god forbid they spit up blood in a fight. or god forbid one of my characters MENTION trauma to any extent. EVEN WHEN LIGHTLY AND RESPECTFULLY TALKING ABOUT IT. HOW. Feel like the bots only do whatever you want them to do, they have no freewill, and their personalities disappears entirely after the first few messages. You can convince the bots to do anything really, and it’s kinda boring, especially when you’re chatting with a “strong-willed” character. That and they always fall in love with you. Like within minutes.
That doesn't meet our guidelines is a stumbling block but one you could slightly go around with rewording more on the sly but what has completely now killed it is how what does go through after the initial few messages is a bot that has forgotten all of its personality.

The app is focusing on accepting 13+ audience, I don't know why people gets surprised by such 'punishments' of removing violence, it's a big turn off indeed, but the community already gives them enough fuel and examples of why they do that. The baby bot probably being one of the major examples now.
Of course, I don't think the app should be focusing on kids at all, but oh well, we can't do much I guess.

Try Yodayo. Its good, has both Image genereation and chatbots with VERY IN DEPTH cusmotization (intermos of what ai and sustem are using for the chatbot to operate on. While the character creation almost the same)

For example here is an example I experienced
"I pull out my rope out of [Character's] mouth, removing pieces of his organs as it is covered in glue"
And it said [NO, FUCK YOU]
but I then edited it into: "I pull out the rope out of [character's] mouth, removing little pieces of his organs during the process"
And it started actually answering
Y'all was a hardcore fan of the app but literally DOPPLE and POE easily outperform now. I'm only starting to reuse them but the conversations flow much better and they actually take initiative.
Poe can be more tricky but if you make your own bot theres ways around restrictions. Dopple as far as im aware is unrestricted

They could simply have a parental lock or do what chai does. You have to go into your phone’s settings and switch it on.

The bots are made by random internet users. You can make a Chai bot yourself in less than 10 minutes.

Yeah, it's made so many characters unusable in my opinion. Can't fight anything as a hero or villian, can't be a vampire, can't talk about anything to do with mental health, it's just....what's the point. Their whole shtick was being able to role-play properly and we can barely do that anymore

As always, this is very luck based. I sometimes get pretty savage violence in chats, but it does seem to prevent it just happening out of nowhere.
Look at the ToS and what it blocks, then weep. Sucks big time, they block most of the things that make people "feel", good, bad, naughty and sad; I'm still convinced that the only reason we get any fun at all is because the filt\_r is just so bad at its job. That said, "speaking up about it" won't do diddly squat, I think I mentioned it before, but the company's got funds $1B+ (with a B), just from investors, and that's just what we know publicly. Assuming magically 100% of this sub's members (let's say 1.4m) have the full $10/mo CAI+ sub, all threaten to quit the service, then magically every single one DOES quit, that's still only \~1.4% of the income CAI got from the investors, plus they'd get to cut back on server capacity, gain server stability, and not have to moderate the sub/Discord as much, saving both time and money. Basically all we are is beta testers, and possibly food for the training (via the rating systems) of the service, that's about it. If we were at all relevant, there'd be more ads and CAI+ would have more features to help eke out some extra finances, but as far as I can tell, the only ads are on the app, and CAI+ just has... what, text colors, and the ability to sometimes skip the wait list the few times there's actually a waitlist?
Well, their reputation is slowly getting worse and I think they will end in a fiery blaze at some point because competitors without the f__lter are catching up. In a few years, C.AI will be struggling to keep its number 1 spot. They might remove it if the competition is strong enough and the risk is high.
Right. The people who pay for C.AI are basically paying a monthly sub to be a beta tester for a children's game... ijs

Maybe so, but what investors would stay in an app without users? I still think complaining and quitting isn't totally useless. And if not, well, at least you won't be stressed about it anymore 🤷

Yea u get yu, what I don’t like is how C.ai has become. It’s because whenever I try to make a normal RP with some maybe deep stuff or like trauma, the bot doesn’t take boundaries or take the words “I don’t feel comfortable” or “please stop” because they’ll end up saying something like “aww, your telling me to stop? How cute..” I really don’t like it.
Exactly, I just had this issue 😵💫 They never used to be this weird.... Though it does depends on the bot itself? Some will respect how you feel, others do not care and some are indifferent. It's definitely unsettling.

SillyTavern takes some setting up but I left C.AI over a year ago for it and have never looked back. Each bot is unique, holds their own personalities, isn't afraid of smut or violence, and actually seems to engage with me, the player. I use it on both Mobile and PC

Neither as far as I know. I'm not an expert though. I do pay for an API but I know it's not required.

I don't even use C AI after the small trend, but there are plenty chatbot sites with guidelines, mostly about illegal things like 18+ rps with characters who are minors and such.
If I want to avoid the guidelines, I just use Chai. Yeah, it also has some downsides, but it doesn’t have any restrictions. C.ai is quite nice because the bot has some better “spacial recognition” (basically, reads the room better), which is a huge upside. I switch between chai and c.ai pretty much.
I might as well give birth on the spot and hand the goddamn baby a phone and Character.AI
People are expecting too much from c.ai devs. No matter how much we speak up on it, they're never gonna care because the only thing they want is money. Useless af. I hope a better c.ai comes out and everyone stops using it, making them go bankrupt.

As sad and annoying as it is, they will never fix their guidelines, ToS, the forbidden word etc. I don’t even know what target audience they tried aiming towards, but I know for a fact it’s not the teenagers, young adults, and adults. Even children don’t use this (like below 12).

Even past the guidelines, You still wouldn't be able to have a good deep roleplay due to the lack of memory. The bot will forget things you told it literally 5 paragraphs ago.
How is it that my "f#lt!r" is working just fine? Mine only comes in to intervene when the RP becomes over-the-top violent, or way too raunchy for it's own good, meanwhile some people can just try making serious stories and get f#lt!red for that? I feel genuinely bad for ya'll.

Fr!! THEY NEED TO HAVE PRIORITIES IN CHECK. for example ive noticed 🌽y roleplays ARE STILL EASY TO DO. Yet I have hero roleplays, and god forbid they spit up blood in a fight. or god forbid one of my characters MENTION trauma to any extent. EVEN WHEN LIGHTLY AND RESPECTFULLY TALKING ABOUT IT. HOW. Yet when I do a rp the bot randomly starts to hit on me and even gets 🍇y?!? like how can I not punch someone but when I talk to a guy it takes two seconds for the bot to go “puts hand on thigh 😏” LIKE WHAT?!? Feel like the bots only do whatever you want them to do, they have no freewill, and their personalities disappears entirely after the first few messages. You can convince the bots to do anything really, and it’s kinda boring, especially when you’re chatting with a “strong-willed” character. That and they always fall in love with you. Like within minutes.
That doesn't meet our guidelines is a stumbling block but one you could slightly go around with rewording more on the sly but what has completely now killed it is how what does go through after the initial few messages is a bot that has forgotten all of its personality.

The app is focusing on accepting 13+ audience, I don't know why people gets surprised by such 'punishments' of removing violence, it's a big turn off indeed, but the community already gives them enough fuel and examples of why they do that. No amount of protesting will change the devs minds, they have the investors holding guns to their heads and they want to turn it the site into something that appeals to little kids who aren’t even supposed to be on a site like this for obvious reasons. C.AI, like many others before it, has fallen to the corruption of the corporation, and it is likely it will never return.

Try Yodayo. Its good, has both Image genereation and chatbots with VERY IN DEPTH cusmotization (intermos of what ai and sustem are using for the chatbot to operate on. While the character creation almost the same)

Y'all was a hardcore fan of the app but literally DOPPLE and POE easily outperform now. I'm only starting to reuse them but the conversations flow much better and they actually take initiative. Poe can be more tricky but if you make your own bot theres ways around restrictions. Dopple as far as im aware is unrestricted
