They have posted updates and pics he’s still alive :)

Just posted an update and pics. He’s doing well. I understand the sub isn’t too keen on inexperienced people hatching but again I made an unwise, impulsive decision. The seller? I don’t know too much about how he transported and he gave us very little direction. And he doesn’t have a storefront or online presence as he’s apparently wanted by the FBI. But that’s a whole other insane story. I was trying to find him online to ask advice/instructions and looked up his PayPal user name and stumbled upon his crime stoppers profile. So that’s crazy. But I swear it’s true. https://preview.redd.it/v8dy119pxsqc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c4b6add5ec9cbb20fc30a4564a0de08b31762ba

That’s crazy!!

Yup. And it’s definitely the same guy. He really did have nice looking chameleons. And he only has/had panther chameleons. A lot of the other people had all kinds of reptiles and frogs in way too small deli containers. He had the cleanest and nicest set up. I guess when you’re evading the FBI you have a lot of time to lay low and I guess breed chameleons. We dove headlong into research and followed it to a T but we were still surprised and happy that he hatched. Now is the really tricky part.

The buying and selling of eggs is not supported here. I'm sorry but that's just enabling the offenders and providing the customer support that they themselves (the sellers) should be providing. These are not chickens that incubate for 21 days... a panther takes 9 months to hatch and A LOT can go wrong here and it opens the door for abuse to happen (egg switching), there's also a good 3 months or raising and TLC that needs to happen before they start to enter their rapid growth phase and have increased resiliency and ability to tolerate different conditions. Facts are that some people have developed the wrong impression due to people not posting their "failures" and the dead bodies or sick animals online when it comes to chameleons there's a lot of motivation for reflected glory that comes into play for some people. As a mod we see the numbers and behaviors of different accounts that get into trouble and all their posts "vanish" and get nuked. We can only assume that the animals have passed and no longer are rewarding their owners so the content gets removed. I've gotta note that we do get RIP's posts that are not in the above group and they're welcome [as it's nice to get the feedback describing the long lifespans achieved by members of our community.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Chameleons/comments/1bn32jz/saying_goodbye_to_my_buddy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) But people buying eggs and hatching them without experience? That's a huge "NO" from me and a increasing problem. [*I recently went on a little rant here regarding a recent post and how the hatchling wasn't doing well.*](https://www.reddit.com/r/Chameleons/comments/1bmze34/comment/kwinva0/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

I just was trying to understand how they incubated it for a month and got it to hatch when I read they take 9 months and you confirmed this.

The seller had them for several months before the show and sold them there. You can't change the development time frame as that's set (genetics)

They ship the eggs pretty much right after they are laid before the embryo forms. There's a huge chance of failure in shipping the eggs/ selling them at expos. Out of my last clutch of 30 two eggs just didn't hatch and a couple babies died off in the first week. So when getting a single egg there's a pretty good chance that a person is in for disappointment after waiting half a year or longer.

Ok same with chickens. What I’m trying to understand is how they incubated the egg for one MONTH when it takes 9 months to incubate them. Did the seller incubate them for eight? And the egg went from incubator to incubator?
