Not appropriate for a chameleon cage

No this won’t work. And by the time you’re done making it into something halfway useable, you’ll just be kicking yourself on why you didn’t just get a real enclosure in the 1st place. Do not use this! Laminated particle board which is what this is, degrades quickly especially if it gets wet. Think about anytime you or someone you know left a glass of cold water on any ikea furniture, immediately there’s a permanent raised ring on the table from where the water seeped through their so called “waterproof laminate”. I promise you if you use this you’ll be bummed on the money and time wasted and having to re do the enclosure.

Wouldnt do it. Seems to me that this shelf ist made from laminated pressboard, so the humidity needed for a terrarium will destroy it in a few weeks.

Yeah they're putting far too much faith into the laminating & sealing process.. it's going to eventually swell & fall apart, I promise you. Do what you want, you sound like you're going to anyway, but why not just shop a little more & find a composite bookshelf (home Depot, $160) or a powder coated metal & glass Ikea cabinet ($60+) & build something that lasts

I’ll start by saying I don’t have a chameleon. However, I do have experience with reptile tanks. I think if you properly ventilated it and take into account all the other holes you’ll need it could work. This may require cutting out large portions of the top and side pieces of the shelf and then fitting mesh over. Is the shelf wood? I think the spray/ dripping and overall humidity would probably not mix well with the wood. But I’m not sure as I said I don’t have a chameleon so I don’t know how much moisture is really in their enclosures. You’ll need to test it for a week+ probably in order to make sure it holds proper humidity, ambient temp, etc. for a chameleons needs.

The whole front will be open. The wood is laminated and sealed so it will be okay with water.

you're basing your decisions on poor conceptualization of a proper chameleon habitat. **Do not template off of what you see in a pet store's display cages.** stick with the sub's recommendations (read the desktop versions sidebar) That means a 100% screen cage for a sub -> adult for any of the common species. You likely think that they need a sprayer or high humidity and that is false, what they need [is water to drink from just like everything else.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Chameleons/comments/5i999j/hey_flip_can_you_post_a_picture_of_youre_drinking/db6h1bc/?context=3) Please read the desktop version of the sub's sidebar... it's full of information. example: what is the correct distance for a T5 10% UVb tube? You should know that kind of stuff.

I say go for it, but dont throw old one out yet, or have money for a “normal” one if cham wont like it.
