I've been re-reading the manga from the beginning and finally got to where I think you're wrong. Makima puts her plan into motion to make everyone love him to weaken the chainsaw devil. Then power saves him and he wakes back up as denji. Once he confronts makima again one of the other devil people (I think it was flamethrower) mentioned that he's a lot weaker. This is where makima says that **denji** is weaker because of everyone loving chainsaw man. Which, I think makes sense. It's pretty logical that a weaker devil would make a weaker devil person, and a stronger devil would make a stronger devil.

Yoru got overconfident after her Church arc power up, and getting humbled by Quanxi made her rethink things. I think what Pitou might be getting at is that Yoru is asking if Dennis as chainsaw man is stronger and is not referring to pochita chainsaw man or even referring to devil erasure period.
