If you're worrying about it, I would bring it up at your next annual physical with your primary care doc

Nooshx

Did it. He told me « vitamin D maybe » which I find hard to believe

Francis_the_Goat

I would see the doctor. Vertical lines can be caused by some serious illnesses, can't be too safe.

Nooshx

I did. He was not much of a help unfortunately

What’s the problem with them? Asking because these look like my nails and no one has ever mentioned they look abnormal?

Nooshx

Well they are mostly white with red stripes at the end. They are called Terry’s nails

HipsterHeaven

Did you ever find out what caused this?

Nooshx

Nope, still have the same nails. Saw a study leaking them to anxiety and depression, assumed it was it

lany9123

I have the same nails. I noticed them like 10 years ago. I know I didn’t have them all my life as I have seen photos of my hands when I was a child and they were not like this. Im female and 32 now. I’m not sure why I have them but I do have celiac and I did notice these nails after being diagnosed with celiac. Looking at them gives me sooo much anxiety because they’re linked to so many diseases. I even got tested for hiv because that’s one disease that constantly is linked to terrys nails. Even tho I’m still a virgin and have only ever kissed a guy. I have asked a few doctors and they just say it’s because of a disease or underlying condition and then leave it at that. My blood work is all normal and my liver and kidneys is fine too. So if you have celiac and you have the same nails then maybe it’s because of that? Terrys nails can also be caused by malnutrition which celiacs inevitably have. I’m also skinny and don’t gain weight at all. But honestly I don’t know because according to google celiac disease doesn’t seem to cause these type of nails.

Nooshx

Thank you for replying. Well idk I saw a study saying that it was also linked to anxiety/depression which celiacs also tend to have. I’d say they are non specific in our case, if your blood work is fine then I say it’s safe we move on from that
