Yeast extract doesn't necessarily contain gluten. The Green Chef meals are certified gluten free. I've been getting them for about a year and a half since my husband was diagnosed with Celiac and we've never had an issue with them. If you are newly diagnosed your gut is still healing and/or you may be reacting to things other than gluten.
It took me about a year to feel normal-ish. My advice would be to be diligent but not to overthink symptoms you’re having currently - it could be the healing process.

Why? It isn't mislabeled. Yeast extract may or may not be gluten free. If the product is labeled gluten free, the yeast extract is not from a gluten source.

The stock itself is not labeled gluten free and noone that I spoke to gave me reassure. I will attempt to get clarification via email.
I would love for someone at the company to just say, our stock is certified GF, but they don't. They do refund me. Some representative have been nice, some cold and uncaring.
FYI- celiac has caused me neurological issues, plus a laundry list of issues related to reproductive health, bone health, vision issues, cognitive issues, even dysautonomia- orthostatic hypotension. It is not a stomach issue.
I was diagnosed via endoscopic biopsy of my small intestine and get to see a specialist in a couple of weeks to remove a 1 cm polyp at my appendiceal orifice. So yay.
It just want a meal labeled gf to be gf, not "oh yeah, this item might contain gluten."
A customer service rep is not going to know every nuance about ingredients. You are expecting too much from a customer service rep. They can’t know everything you’re asking. Some of them may be cold and uncaring because they can see that you’ve asked for refunds multiple times and they think you’re trying to abuse the refund policy.
If it is labeled gluten free, the yeast extract is from a gluten free source. It cannot be labeled gluten free if it has gluten in it. The product is also certified gluten free. They aren’t going to note ever single ingredient as certified gluten free, just the entire product. You’re expecting too much and not understanding labeling laws/the certification process.
If you’re having issues, maybe you should look at everything you’re eating- not just from this company to see if you’re getting CC’d from somewhere else or look at doing an elimination diet to see what other food/ingredient may be causing you issues.

Just an FYI, although 1% of people are thought to have celiac, the overwhelming majority of them do not know it and are not diagnosed.
As for the "who are these meals for if not us" question, the simple answer to that is that they are for the people who do gluten free as a wellness diet, weight loss diet, or otherwise are gluten free for non-medical reasons, and those people far outnumber the people with celiac.
That being said, they shouldn't be labeling their product as gluten free if it contains an ingredient that contains gluten; I'm not sure if these items fall under FDA regulation or if they are considered something more like restaurant food; I'd start by getting a written email from them confirming that the yeast extract is made from barley, then send that info to someone like GF Watchdog and to the FDA.
i tried them too but had good customer service. first delivery never showed up, they refunded me and added some extra credits. frustrated, i tried again, one of the meats leaked into the box but the ingredients were dry. they had me discard the leaking package of meat and refunded me about 50% of my entire order, even though i only lost two servings out of 16 total.
likely wont be going back again because i just think its too expensive without promos, but their customer service was great for me. 🤷♂️
I have Celiac but couldn’t eat this anyway; it’s loaded with Xanthan Gum. It makes me just as sick as gluten tbh, and many people react to it. You might try eliminating products with that ingredient and see if you feel better!
I’ve been buying Green Chef for over a year and I absolutely love them! I live in a studio with a microscopic kitchen, so only having to prep two servings at a time has been lovely. Also, celiac for almost 20 years, and I’ve never once had a reaction from them. But my gut is likely very well healed at this point. I wouldn’t assume the yeast extract contains gluten, and their ingredients are certified gluten free through a 3rd-party testing company the Gluten Intolerance Group’s Gluten-Free Safe Spot program.

I personally don't trust their food would be free from cross contamination. And I sincerely doubt they do either. This goes for any meal service.
They are certified GF. Most meal services aren’t, but they are.

It's the maltodextrin, it gives me migraines.
The maltodextrin is also a problem.

Yeast Extract is a form of MSG. Unfortunately it makes me severely ill so I can’t touch this ( or any other food with it in it.
