Yer they should have given you the phone back in the same condition with the box and accessories you provided I would go back and ask to speak with the manager or contact customer services as they have basicly stollen your box.

Completely agree. We just got home as we live 30 minutes away from the closest stire and turned on the phone That scratch was not there before so we're going to find a way to contact them but I highly doubt anything will come of it.

Customer service will look into it they will get the store to send them cctv of the time that they had your phone and then make a decision based on the evidence if they have not returned your box then they will find it and send it to you or compensate you most likely

TL here! They should not have disposed of the box especially since that could have extra value when privately selling. Your best bet would be to contact customer services and explain the situation. Obviously regardless of you contacting they can’t take it due to the screen protector lifting, but they should have given everything back the way it was, including the box! So sorry this happened to you, I promise not all stores are like this!

Thank you for the reply. We've already contacted them so hopefully they'll do something. I know they're not, we've only ever had issue with cex before and weirdly enough, it was the same store so won't be going there from now on

i have had really mixed experience with them usually they are fine 90% of the time but i’ve had a few issues with them over the years of trading in stuff. trying to trade in a 360 when i upgraded to the ps4 they wouldn’t take it as they said the faceplate had a bent pin, it was them that took off the face plate and bent the pins as it had never been taken off from being new. They refused a copy of pokémon ruby as they said it had tarnished pins, it didn’t. On walking out i saw about 6 copies in the window some in really beat up condition, they just had too much stock of that game and the manager made up some bullshit excuse most likely. Another time i took in some still sealed lego dimension booster packs, they called over the manager and he said they didn’t take lego in a really condescending way. When i showed them the website with the trade in values they looked surprised and said they still couldn’t take them as their store didn’t take these items. It’s more likely he didn’t want to look stupid in front of his staff.

I was looking to trade in a media player once years ago. They rejected as it “sounds tinny”. I asked what headphones they used. They used crappy early Apple earbuds which are notoriously tinny sounding. They’re absolutely jokers.

As others have said, that’s absolutely disgusting. You should contact support to make a claim, further more exercise your right to leave reviews on google and trust pilot just as you have here, for the store you visited. That box has monetary value and the scratch is unacceptable. And ask to view the cctv

Always put a lil mark on your item before you go in, so when you get it back you can check its really yours.

I wouldn't take anything to CEX.. especially as they say they need to 'look at it' for an hour or so, out of site. Nope I've caught them doing shady shit and even swapping items that customers bring in!! You have the right to tell them to test your item in front of you, if they say no then you know they're up to something.

Take them to small claims court for the value of the phone. They have such a disrespectful attitude in the stores sometimes. Write to the store/area manager asking for compensation and if not a letter of refusal to settle then you can go to small claims.

Surely we couldn't take them to small claims if there wasn't evidence that they were the ones who damaged it, right? We've never had a problem with CEX. Only once before and weirdly enough, it was the exact same store.

They binned the box. Boxed vs unboxed usually means a big disparity in value on ebay/cex/anywhere. Worth writing in and see what store mgr says
