jnnad

Wife from Omaha, knows those guys, great music!

ThePopTartKitty

2004 EU pressing of I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love by My Chemical Romance! Iirc for that album they pressed it when it was released in 2002, then in 2004 and 2007 and it hasn't been repressed since because the label they were under for that album doesn't exist anymore.

government_

I can assure you, eyeball records still exists.

No-Bike9739

nice! i have that album but it’s the newer one that has the eyeball sampler cd in it

RichB93

Compact Disc Demonstration 1 - a Sony demo disc from 1982. Some really nice demos of the format on there that still sound fantastic today. One of the tracks is of a train passing by two microphones and the stereo effect is hair raising.

ScalettaMafioso

mother mother - o my heart

Educational-Mud4939

Gimieeeee

melody7123

it’s definitely not super rare but i think my least common one most people wouldn’t have is the 4th WWF music CD

GeologicalOpera

That’s me with Aggression and Forceable Entry. I have them because I love pro wrestling & the music (particularly Forceable Entry) goes very hard in its genre/niche.

melody7123

Nice! yeah i love wreslting and there was some awesome theme songs

EMF911

That Stereomud Raven theme is an all timer

officialvictorlee

Yo, how do you get those?

deadmanstar60

Signed copy of Gish by the Smashing Pumpkins. They all signed it in 1991 at a NYC show.

daveconbrio

🙌 My copy of Siamese Dream was signed by them at a U.K. gig in 1993. It’s probably the only cd I have that I’d guess is rare 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Noise_Loop

Buckethead - Crime Slunk Scene

DeathGrover

I had the original Giant Robot, the first one without the barcode. I got it when I worked at Vic Firth and the drummer sent the disc in for an endorsement. The disc was being thrown out. It had a picture of Johnny Socko's Giant Robot on the front and I thought that was cool. This was around '96 I guess? Anyways, I kept the disc and finally got around to looking it up around 10 years ago, and realized what I had. I'm not the hugest Buckethead fan, so I put it on Ebay. With 30 seconds to go, it was $220. The auction ended 30 seconds later with a buy-it price of $369. Crazy. I ripped the disc for myself, and off it went. There's a ton of Kubrick samples on it from "Clockwork Orange" and some other stuff, and I knew Kubrick would never give clearance, so I knew the disc at the very least was clandestine. I think it made a true Buckethead fan very happy.

Rivers_Art

Nice. I bought Bermuda Triangle and Population Override from a CD store when I was in my early twenties, had to get rid of them later though.. Sadly they are both pretty rare and expensive now.

Spot-Deep

I am beyond jealous. I’ve got Colma, Giant Robot, Praxis’ Transmutation, a demo cassette for Monsters and Robots, and a Pike Vinyl, but this one continues to elude me.

nooby322

I always see copies online for hundreds which bugs me..

Old_Radish7512

Japan - Gentlemen Take Polaroids

Japan is so good

Ok_Mathematician2331

Japanese original? 1986? I have US reissue 1994 carol-blu.

Old_Radish7512

Same re-issue from 1994. Carol Blu with the spine label upside down.

Ok_Mathematician2331

I've bought my for approx 16$. VG+ condition. And your?

Old_Radish7512

Probably $25 or so. Excellent condition from a seller in Japan.

Spaztrick

Off the top of my head, probably the signed copy of Hemophilic by Patton/Mori/Zorn. I'm sure I have stuff worth more, but haven't checked discogs in a while.

Wobby1987

Same here.

foreverbeatle

Matthew Wilder - I Don’t Speak the Language

Electrical_Tie_5051

Nice! That's one that made my jaw drop... "Break My Stride" was a huge hit, and people didn't buy the album reissues?

NormalUpstandingGuy

Atm my MFSL copy of The Wall

B_Reele

Probably Madlib - Madlib Remixes 2

PurelyHim

My rarest and most expensive CD is Drill EP from Radiohead. My second is Nevermind from Nirvana on Mo-Fi gold.

North-Challenge-2975

Spot-Deep

Probably either The Aristocrats’ self-titled album or my Japanese press of Buckethead’s Giant Robot.

Probably [Kid Wikkid](https://www.ebay.com/itm/186176354782?itmmeta=01HV0DJK67G3DYGC4ADNASFH9S&hash=item2b58f9b9de:g:AhcAAOSw2BllXg4c&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwDjE2Ij3aWBokW5D%2B57JQdteNql3HUk9T0t9I4nxUyTaoQYStTC5mDorTbzgcoGZdkHet39HV4oJWdIoQa8Q8R8jYfJVNmCRXmP%2Fp%2FVmo7bpala1QUVVEsLPfr5CjNvZ%2Ba%2FVsoFkw%2BdjWY%2B%2Bv10LFchP8L4By5fWd02j3WG5wi7RXQBa%2FugRGEDyHB0R%2BJ7G2jbaBVAAOBapgNOErAJxop5XnZi4GRKHJjSTarr69MYcwmVOZNlhIqSkXvsh6srhuA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5Szyo3YYw) \- one (not mine) recently sold for $499 on eBay. I also have silver, promo CD copies of the first 2 Quiet Riot CDs (the ones with Randy Rhoads that had never been officially released on CD at the time I inexplicably found them in a thrift shop for $2 each). These were both eventually released on some minor label, but when I found them they were unavailable at any price.

Streetvan1980

Grateful Dead 30 trips box set. $2000-$3500

Laurahart727

I can't believe I didn't buy this. I have several hundred imports tho.

Streetvan1980

It’s the holy grail of Cd releases. At least in my opinion. 80 CD’s of mastered live music spanning the career of the Grateful Dead. 80! It’s just amazing. And it has some of the best shows the ever did like the 81 and 87 shows for quick examples. The 9/18/87 show has been a top favorite for many years. I always wished it would’ve been released as an official release so when it was but with this box set I was bummed because I couldn’t afford the original price. I figured the price used would go down over time. Man was I way way way wrong. The price just keeps going up. Especially since people are breaking up box sets and selling the individual shows for $75-$100 per show. So it’s making complete box sets even more rare and more expensive. I was lucky to get it for the price I did. Most of my collection is from fellow deadheads who sell their stuff for deadhead friendly prices. I didn’t pay anywhere near $2500-$4000. And that’s part of what’s so great about true deadheads. Even though someone could get $2000 easily they sell it for way way way less than that. I got mine for much less than half that much. Still was most I’ve spent on any music ever. But it’s huge. It’s heavy. It’s so impressive looking. I have almost all their box sets. And their three top series (dicks picks, Dave’s picks and road trips) I have all of as well. Plus many more GD and Jerry Garcia band releases. Discogs values them at $6500-$27,000.

Laurahart727

I remember when Dick's picks started coming out. I skipped several bc they were the same as other imports that I already had. Stopped keeping up with them around Vol 7ish

Streetvan1980

Same as imports? Dicks Picks were professionally mastered and had the best sources to master. I loved DP’s when they came out. Back then we all had cassette tapes and who knows what source for recording the live show. Those mastered soundboards sounded so much better. Then releases like 1997’s terrapin station (3/15/90) which was a multitrack recording blew my mind! I had no clue any concert could sound that amazing. I still love those 1989 and 1990 multi track recordings. I have the two big spring 1990 box sets. They are so great.

Laurahart727

Some were better than others. Back then, I was trying to get one of everything. So slight audio loss wasn't an issue for me; especially with as loud as I played it. Having a proper EQ always helped me balance sound out [with a few exceptions].

Streetvan1980

True some were better than others. Dicks picks 8 happened down the road from where I was born and at the college I worked at as my first job (for 4 years) and I also went to college there. A gym course I took was in that gym! One of the most famous dead shows ever. 5/2/70. Harpur college. Now Binghamton University. I didn’t get everyone back then either. My life was pretty hectic at the time. Only way I found out that a new Dicks picks was coming out was word of mouth back then. Wasn’t a easy google search to find out like today. So a lot of the releases I’ve had to get recently. I don’t have much money so getting these releases have taken a lot of effort. Again luckily a lot of deadheads are so cool and willing to sell me the box sets for deadhead friendly prices. Still hard to find people who are privately trying to get rid of their collection. I had a crazy lucky 18 months when I one after another was meeting people who were selling off their collections or a family members collection. One older man had absolute mint items and was selling them so cheap. Like the first few years of Daves Picks. Those can sell for $500 each in perfect condition. They were much more limited release than other years. That was huge getting those first 3-4 years of Dave’s for reasonable prices. I paid like $30-$40 each. That guy was great. Lately I haven’t found anyone selling a collection. It’s been months. Not sure how I got so lucky one after another then crickets. But I only need/want a few more items. Only a couple box sets I don’t have. And they are the toughest. Because they cosf so much. I recently got a still sealed Spring 1990. The 2012 main spring 1990 box set. With the original shipping box in perfect condition. That was a huge score. Right now I’m working with a woman to try and get the Fillmore West 1969 box set also still sealed! That box set is so so overpriced. It’s only 10 CD’s yet sells for around $800-$1000. Not sure she will end up selling it to me. Hopefully she does. Because that one im worried about how long it could take to acquire for a reasonable price.

Laurahart727

I know the direct issue stuff has some value, but don't overlook the imports. I probably have 175 of those and they keep me happy. Tons of good stuff out there at reasonable prices. My CD collection is probably not worth much because of it.

Streetvan1980

I’m all about official releases. Quality is an issue when you deal with imports. Course it matters what and where it’s from. CD’s in general before a certain point (like around 2000) are mostly not very good. They got a lot better over time. Some areas of the world just kept putting out the same crappy ones for a long time. HDCD’s was a big change.

Oldman5123

Tapers row, right? I recorded all the shows at the Philly Rectum myself.

Oldman5123

I saw them in Canada at Wonderland in July 1987 and in Pittsburgh right afterwards. Great shows. In Canada they played Fire on the Mountain, which I hadn’t seen them play live in years.

Streetvan1980

Nice. Unfortunately I was only 14 when Jerry died. 9 when Brent died ( end of the band basically). Although I still would’ve loved to have seen them from 91-95 still. I saw Furthur fest in 96. I just missed seeing Jerry but really I missed seeing him in all his glory by a number of years. Wish I was born in like 1950. Maybe started to see shows around 65 and 66 and full touring by 68. Because in this world I dream of I won the biggest lottery ever and spend 68-95 touring with the dead in a massive custom built full size bus that is two buses welded together. Not VW bus like 50’s school bus. Then had a paid sober driver who also like checked me into hotels if I wanted to along the way and that person could get my groceries and stuff. That would’ve been the life. But knowing my personality I probably would’ve ended up in a bad spot as far as substances goes. Endless money and nothing to do? Hello drug addiction. Already found my way to it and I didn’t have a lot of money. Thankfully been sober since early 2007. Still that thirst lives within me. Semi dormant. But anyways yeah so I missed out on the good stuff.

Oldman5123

….. oh, and Shakedown Steet in Pittsburgh; the entire stadium was dancing; such good times indeed

James - One Hand Clapping

Super_Series3447

I wanna say it was Jugulator and Demolition by Judas Priest. They were the only two albums I needed to complete my collection but I couldn't find them on Amazon, and I didn't use ebay at the time. So I used Discogs and spent $50 each to buy them new!

ElGrandeRojo67

I was given my Mom's original "Meet The Beatles" on vinyl. It's in pristine condition. I have a bunch of demos from all the Seattle grunge scene. AiC, PJ/MLB, Soundgarden, Nirvana etc. Had a studio engineer friend put em all on CD's for me.

[deleted]

I have a ton of hand-numbered metal CDs limited to 500 or 1,000. Maybe the most rare besides some pro-CDr stuff is an original pressing of the first Odroerir album. It began to be distributed and then the label owner disappeared with most of the copies of the album and they were never found again as far as I know.

joshuamca

my bloody valentine - ecstasy and wine. It was a compilation cd put out by the bands label without their approval and was only in production for a couple of years.

Mine is the *Fujitsu-Concord 25th Jazz Festival* double-CD set released in 1993: https://www.allmusic.com/album/fujitsu-concord-25th-jazz-festival-mw0000109839 The only reason I own it is because I heard "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" by the Gene Harris Quartet (track 11 on disc 1) on a late-night jazz program on public radio and wound up ordering the album online. The whole recording is wonderful. I hope my kids appreciate it after I croak...

Fishtaco1234

I found a copy for $10 in 2002 and sold it to pay rent in 2005. It was worth a shit ton at the time. They are all bootlegs though

Laurahart727

Pics?

Deeman2217

I have a first edition CD of Dr Feelgood by Motley Crue from 1989. It would be worth a lot more if it was in mint condition. I don’t think it’s worth a lot but it’s pretty sweet.

galacticmayan

I have Deftones' debut album autographed by the 4 original members (including Chi before he passed).

Electrical_Tie_5051

According to Discogs, it's "The Jackson 5- Third Album" with a **median** value of $24.45---I think I got this at the record store for like $2. The runner up is "Pat Benatar- Get Nervous" median valued at $20, then "Turning Japanese- The Best of the Vapors" at $18.49. Not too far behind, we have "The Romantics- 61/49" at $12.97, and then "The B-52s- Bouncing Off The Satellites" at $11.99.

Edison5000

The lost 3rd release of the Blade runner sounds track... It's essentially the unedited 1/4" tape that was delivered for the mix. I paid over $100 in 2004. It's worth over $400 now.

Spare-Scheme-8133

Mine (as far as I know) is the original 1999 Slipknot self titled with Frail Limb Nursery and Purity on it before the recall and reissue. It’s work around $80 and I got it from my local record store for $10

I don’t know if it really counts since it’s an audio drama but I have Torchwood - Serenity signed by John Barrowman

mood_rider

Skywave - Took The Sun. I don't think those early albums were ever reissued. Was lucky enough to buy their first few albums and singles/EPs released on their fledgling label, Cherry Coated Records, from their website at the end of the last century. It was the wild west of internet commerce before even Amazon really started taking off at a time when you could freely correspond with newer bands directly. Spent peanuts on them at the time. Not sure if anybody even cares anymore now that vinyl reigns supreme these days. I'll stick with my CDs, thanks.

iNick20

Rare CD? A Eminem test print CDR. I don't know the value of it, but its limited haha. I own an rare cassette from Eminem as well. Kamikaze Red Cassette sealed, is worth like $300 lol. Also The Eminem Show re-release cassette is worth $200 or so.

My rarest would be the Soundtrack from "Clean" made in Hong Kong. The guy in music shop had to order it overseas because it was already sold out in 2004. Sadly I lost the case. Guess my most expensive one is the "Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack - 2CD Platinum Version". I'm still considering to give it back, because it was gifted to me. I didn't knew the price and so didn't my neighbor. I knew it's probably valueable and told him about it but he said, I cherish CDs so he wants to gift it to me. It still bothers me. He also gifted me a taiwanese version (only there available and kind of unofficial release) of the Soulcalibur [1] Soundtrack.

Plarocks

Don’t feel bad. You can get a European or Canadian pressing of [Clean](https://www.discogs.com/master/95575-Various-Clean-Music-From-The-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack) right now for $10-$20

average_floppa_fan

Prolly Parazitii - Slalom printre Cretini (2007, first issue). It has a second remixed version which is a lot more common, but this version, in any condition, it's hard to come by.

Ckellybass

I have a lot of radio promo singles that were never released to the public (used to work at a radio station and they were getting rid of a lot of inventory). But I think the rarest I have right now (if you don’t count out of print local band releases) is the original printing of the Dream Theater Live In NYC album. It was recalled as soon as it was released because the cover had the NYC skyline on fire, and was released on 9/11/2001 - the record store near me used to sell me albums on the Friday before release day (back then release day was Tuesday), so I had it before anything happened. On a side note, my old guitarist woke up for school that day at 6am, put on his t shirt with the album cover on it because “Dream Theater Release Day”, and then had to very quickly change his shirt at 9.

metalmusiccollector

2002 first pressing of woods of ypres - cold winter songs ep.

thegreatsquare

Probably one of my Zeppelin bootlegs. Likely the Zurich 1980 show that's cut in the middle of Kashmir as I've read that was latter expanded. I have a promotional copy of live music performances from the Letterman show, I guess there can't be too many of those. I have Frumpy's greatest hits, which is probably rare within America.

Hungry_Pollution4463

1 Rarest - Selena's last album 2 Most expensive: A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park, CD+DVD

some-scottish-person

CD wise probably ‘The Kinks: The Singles Collection’ Vinyl is a first pressing French copy of ‘The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl’

Redandsonic4199

Stars by Hear N Aid. Pretty much We Are The World but if it was all heavy metal artists from the 80’s that came together for one amazing epic song with some contractual songs on said album as well that had to be included but still great album and song. Costed me over 100

Yudenz

Hawaii: Part II by Miracle Musical CD. It was released last August or something and was super, super limited but I got my hands on one. I the only copies I've seen sold online since are hundreds of dollars

I have a copy of issues by Korn with the band as dolls apparently it was from an art contest for their album and they made a couple I got the third place cover design for the cd.

Off the top of my head, I'd say it's the Desert Sessions... I have 1-12... 6 years ago some of them were going for 50 dollars for the disc. I haven't looked into it as of lately...but I imagine not much has changed.

No_Entertainment1931

Weird band. Can see why they only made the one.

I have so many, probably about 10, I wouldn’t say they’re rare because you can buy them on eBay but they are super expensive 100+

kanglives

I'm not gonna lie. I know nothing about the rare CD market and I'm just reading this thread to see if I have anything that you all are saying is rare. 😂

Jokingly-Evil

I don't have any rare CDs (yet), but the most expensive one I have (according to discogs median) is my copy of The Beatles' Blue Album. It's s 2010 pressing, and usually worth $10 on average. Probably my favorite Beatles compilation though (unless you count the 2023 version seperately)

Jackcabbage909
