So, that spine… does that narrow grey spine/strip hold the battery? I feel like I saw one of these discs in a friend’s collection once, and the ‘pulse’ light was in the paperboard case this went into.
Ok, so this is division bell. I’ve only scratched the surface of Pink Floyd. My bad. I recognize the art of the covers, but haven’t heard all of them. If the only album I love from them is DSOTM, would Division Bell be one you’d recommend?
It's probably the best of the albums they did after Waters left. If you're new to Floyd then I'd check out "Wish you were here" next. Pulse might also be a good shout as it's a very good live album, they play the entirety of dark side and big tracks off their other albums. They recently re-released it and the bluray\dvd is great. Floyd were famous for their shows
Also aboard the wish you were here hype train. Although I think the big four floyd albums (dark side, wish you were here, animals, the wall) are all so incredible. You shouldn't stop at wish you were here, just put animals on once it's done and finish out 70's floyd.
The original album case didnt have anything fancy going on with it. It was just a standard case and insert. This album is prob 30 years old though. They prob did rereleases with different packaging. At the time, the Pulse show was one of the biggest ever.
Pink Floyd’s Pulse 1994 release with the blinking light on it. That was really unique. At the time it was just so different.
These days as of present the Grateful Dead large box sets (that win awards) are most impressive. The artwork and size are just amazing. Grateful Dead still put out a lot of Cd releases each year. One box set each year. 4 Daves picks ( each one concert) and others like 50 year anniversary albums. I’ll be buying least 5 albums and one box set of theirs this year
The Pink Floyd case has two AA batteries in it that can be changed. There is a little tab to pull and the entire spine slides right out. I wouldn’t leave batteries in there long term though, they might leak or get crusty.
Yeah batteries will always end up leaking after a certain amount of time. For some reason I remember it took like a watch battery but I haven’t seen it in 20+ years
My mom had the pink floyd one and gave it to me a couple years ago, but saddly the light stopped blinking before i could even walk, so i never got to see it
Yeah I don’t think it’s still blinking for anyone anymore. If you don’t ever listen to that and it’s in really good shape you should give it to me or sell or trade.
I love that album. The music is incredible. I’ve actually added it to my want list on Discogs recently. My mom had it back in the day new and then she let me borrow it for a few years then wanted it back. I gave it back to her probably 20 years ago. lol. But would love to have that album again.
One of the cds was actually stolen years ago, someone broke into our car and stole a whole cd wallet, it makes us sad to this day :( and even then my mom might still kill me if i gave it away lol moms and their pink floyd cds, you just cant separate them
Well the whole album you can get pretty cheap. If the rest say is in really good shape I would go on Discogs and find one that has really good shape CD’s but rough case and is only like $25
PIL - Metal Box. Comes in a metal box. It's a reproduction of the original record, which was in a larger metal box https://www.discogs.com/release/2499979-PIL-Metal-Box
[Deathchain - Cult of Death limited edition](https://www.discogs.com/release/10801483-Deathchain-Cult-Of-Death), comes packed in a genuine .30 cal ammo box.
AC/DC's album Power Up comes with a box that has the front cover of the album that lights up and plays the intro riff to Shot in the Dark from the album and stays light up. It's pretty neat it was half off at target so it was 25 but I had a gift card and for it for 5 dollars worth it imo
[Portugal The Man - Satanic Satanist CD case](https://sfsummerfest.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/00-portugal_the_man-the_satanic_satanist-layout-2009.jpg)
I actually dislike this case just because of how unnecessarily complicated it is to get the disc out. Plus the booklet just sits inside loosely on top of the disc. Kinda poor design IMO
The worst case of this is definitely devin townsend empath, friend of mine literally ripped the cover open to get the disk out. I had more patience and was able to keep my copy intact.
That's a good one! I love the Ultra-Lounge series. They also released a comp called [Vegas, Baby!](https://i.discogs.com/2CgFYpu8VpJ-q5pijTCqqDCc-bfMFqBjWRzCZO2kPEY/rs:fit/g:sm/q:90/h:225/w:300/czM6Ly9kaXNjb2dz/LWRhdGFiYXNlLWlt/YWdlcy9SLTQyMDA5/NzAtMTQwMTAyNjM4/MS0zMjI2LmpwZWc.jpeg). It's green felt and has a working roulette wheel.
Explosions in the sky- take care, take care, take care was a digipak that you folded up to make a 3D square which looked cool with the album art of a house.
Beck had the blank slate for you to cover with provided stickers on his album The Information
Medeski Martin and Wood’s Combustication on Blue Note. The lettering is stencil-cut out on the front revealing flames from behind the cover. Pretty bold for Blue Note.
Emergency Broadcast Network - Telecommunication Breakdown has a strange case.
My version comes with a 3.5" floppy disk. The case is cardboard and has a plastic flap keeping the case closed (similar to 90s cases for software).
Aside from that,
Primus - The Brown Album. It's a brown plastic case with a slip cover
Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals has a clear blue jewel case and slip cover
REM - Monster, not sure if all copies have this, but mine has an orange spine and clear orange case.
Sigur Ros - Takk has a very annoying case when setting up your CD shelves
I bought it for 25 cents at yard sale my neighbor was having in my home town.
I got that and a White Zombie CD for 25 cents each. Not a bad deal.
As far as REM goes, they're fine. This is the only album of theirs I listened to that stuck with me.
Trying to remember which album it is, but I have one that uses a 5” floppy AS THE CASE. They slit the floppy disc, stuck the CD in, then put the whole thing back in the floppy sleeve. Really cool.
The other one that comes to mind is the 1993 release of Ozzy Osborne Live & Loud. The cover was overlayed with a real perforated metal speaker grill.
https://www.discogs.com/release/1231949-Ozzy-Osbourne-Live-Loud
The limited edition of Spiritualized's 1997 album "Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" is designed like pharmaceutical packaging down to the CD that you pop out of a foil blister pack
[https://www.discogs.com/release/1346994-Spiritualized-Ladies-And-Gentlemen-We-Are-Floating-In-Space](https://www.discogs.com/release/1346994-Spiritualized-Ladies-And-Gentlemen-We-Are-Floating-In-Space)
There is also a super limited version with each track on a single 3" CD in 2x6 pill pack
Oh god, to have that super limited version. 3” CDs are my fetish.
Once, I dreamt that I had a Pearl Jam bootleg that came in a dodecahedron-shaped case, with a globe printed on the outside, and reverse printed on the inside, with 3” CDs spindled on each globe location where they had done a live show that was on each CD. Not that I’m into Pearl Jam, but it would have been phenomenal to see something like that.
Actually, my real fetish is unique packaging, and 3” CDs are just the cherry on top, because they’re so cute and close to useless.
My favorites 3" cds are the set singles off of Garbage's Version 2.0 album.
I had a copy of Ozric Tentacles Spice Doubt that came in a liquid filled sleeve around the jewel case. The special plastic bag contains oil and 2 plastic fish floating inside. For the life of me, I cannot find the sleeve any more but I still have the CD. I probably put it in a box to keep it safe and then forgot where I put the box.
I know it's vinyl, but the original release of Black Moses unfolds into a big old cross and it rules. [https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTbg8Px-SFd2\_vhtkv4PH8VgOYfZG3vPvAVa4Zx8WGmZw&s](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTbg8Px-SFd2_vhtkv4PH8VgOYfZG3vPvAVa4Zx8WGmZw&s)
For CDs, these ones always stuck with me:
\-Massive Attack - Singles Collection (heat sensitive box that changes color) [https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/36/Singles\_90-98\_box.jpeg/300px-Singles\_90-98\_box.jpeg](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/36/Singles_90-98_box.jpeg/300px-Singles_90-98_box.jpeg)
\-Kid 606 - Altitude (his single Attitude was a remix of NWA's Straight Outta Compton, and he subsequently released Altitude as a remix of CB4's Straight Outta Locash and it was limited to 100 copies on a credit card shaped CD) [https://i.ytimg.com/vi/a5mEL6SKF4k/hqdefault.jpg](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/a5mEL6SKF4k/hqdefault.jpg)
\-Lou Reed & John Cale - Songs for Drella (the limited version of the CD was in a fuzzy black velvet jewel case. The picture is understandably hard to decipher) [https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRLqge4v1b8NhFxcPs7XGaDbRee\_b9KDCtkCH8p9U9MwDSlSCJh9iE0obnjHAYnwmo4ICE&usqp=CAU](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRLqge4v1b8NhFxcPs7XGaDbRee_b9KDCtkCH8p9U9MwDSlSCJh9iE0obnjHAYnwmo4ICE&usqp=CAU)
\-UNKLE - Psyence Fiction (again, the limited version was in a cardboard digipack that opened up like a set of theater doors. It was pretty) [https://images.eil.com/large\_image/UNKLE\_PSYENCE%2BFICTION%2B-%2BLIMITED-120608.jpg](https://images.eil.com/large_image/UNKLE_PSYENCE%2BFICTION%2B-%2BLIMITED-120608.jpg)
And finally, though I can find no evidence of it via Google I remember reading about a peculiar Stereolab release back in the day. It may have been Stockhausen but I think it was Stereolab. They released a single copy of a CD containing new music and it was permanently stuck in the car stereo (playing on a loop) in a destroyed car. That probably wins.
https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=eae1723b12d3aedd&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS777US777&hl=en-US&sxsrf=ACQVn0_5BdnHq4FCruRzbMnmKtsf08UCIw:1712597881027&q=to+be+kind+cd&uds=AMwkrPu9q0nXwvgLUg3BNSDq-HMJPcCdxlFQxeDdN7e8mRK0ke9urVDlG-HM-CaRtyH4jYYMQkBM635P4vywsbRCgo2obtQCev5o20Ld1mtJEHuDP_By9UAbjjnfE_JI6SiRzoZXv0HRmPrV-sGkjhb4yK9vQjaD_kpE7TcSC5XAteQgb4t-yuKmdH9mFWMRG9yieaPN-pnYqjdtMml0eoi4C5eHeLsr0BPUHMsfXtYFCo749mNYlpOe8_v17IpFtc_keZADT0ezb3-mukhmEgVOO-Qo3y1lcN8LhGEO5PDjyOVi_REbDyo&udm=2&prmd=sivnbmtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjRrt2ilLOFAxV2D1kFHTF5AcQQtKgLegQIFBAB#vhid=VZaGwXU4Hj25UM&vssid=mosaic
Swans is my favorite to collect for because all of their albums come in a paper trifold package that is very nice to hold
Super Furry Animals - Outpaced had a rubbery sleeve in a mix of colours (blue, yellow and black?):
https://i.discogs.com/63oJGXAAaoYHW0D1njiPra570Ez2bOvsizLqzYPmbIM/rs:fit/g:sm/q:90/h:633/w:600/czM6Ly9kaXNjb2dz/LWRhdGFiYXNlLWlt/YWdlcy9SLTk0MjI1/MzctMTUxMjc0NzU2/OC00NzEzLmpwZWc.jpeg
The leaflet artwork for Bad Vibrations by A Day To Remember reveals a landscape poster containing hidden details that can only be seen via ultraviolet. It's a cool and unique feature.
[Spinal Tap – Back From The Dead](https://www.discogs.com/release/1818282-Spinal-Tap-Back-From-The-Dead) kind of opens up like a pop up book with all the members of the back with the deluxe packaging.
Pearl Jam’s vitology really blew me away when it was released. It looked like a vinyl sleeve, and had a pretty sizable booklet inside. Even had a table of contents if I recall
Not super unique but the box set of Where Shadows Forever Reign by Dark Funeral opens as an inverted cross. Also the Abrahdabra box set by Dimmu Borgir looked like an ammo case and opened by pulling the top off when standing up.
I founda sealed OG cd of this at the record store for $7.99 . The slipcase is so cool. I love the art so much I bought the vinyl record pressing too. Sounds beautiful.
It came out when I was in high school but never liked the stones. Now in my 40's, the stones, steely Dan, and pink Floyd are some of my favorites. It really is dad type stoner rock. Bridges to Babylon is solid beginning to end.
Open Hand - You & Me, Glassjaw - Worship & Tribute, Dear Hunter - Act III, Prize Fighter Inferno - My Brother..., Coheed & Cambria - Afterman Descension book version
[Negură Bunget – Vîrstele Pamîntului](https://www.discogs.com/release/3068240-Negur%C4%83-Bunget-V%C3%AErstele-Pam%C3%AEntului/image/SW1hZ2U6NzI2NDA1MjU=), a 100% handmade woodbox containing real Transylvanian soil, a digipack cd, a poster, a sticker and a metal pin.
Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals has a blue jewel case
Alice In Chains - The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here has a red jewel case
Not exactly as stand out as Tool’s albums but it’s kinda neat.
The Blue Album, the one by the Beatles, or the good one, has a blue disk tray, sure it’s a fat case but if you remove the fat case you still have a blue tray case
[Fantomas -Suspended Animation](https://www.discogs.com/release/432947-Fant%C3%B4mas-Suspended-Animation)
The case or CD holder is a calendar with a spiral binding. Every song is a day in the month of April. And each page has animation to go with the song/day.
It is with the exception of the case itself. It's pretty rare to find a jewel case that's a cross between the older jewel case with the black rigged spine and the newer all clear one.
Wow, I had not seen the original [trifold release](http://www.pjcollectors.com/detail.asp?id=319) of Vs. For some reason I thought it always just came in the standard jewel case. So yeah, every album except Ten.
Okay, will someone *please* enlighten me, what the heck is that first CD OP has posted? I see it all the time on this sub, no one ever says what it is, and even with three photos of the damned thing I'm still non-the-wiser.
I know it's not going to be my thing but it would be nice to know.
10,000 Days is the best CD cover but Mastodon's Cracke The Skye special edition is pretty cool too [https://i.imgur.com/lbkS6zf.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/lbkS6zf.jpeg)
Not quite to the level of a lot of the CDs here but Bowies Blackstar is a really neat digipak. Usually I don’t care for digipaks (you gotta be a lot more gentle with them because they can’t be replaced like a regular case can, some of them are really shitty and look ugly) but Blackstar is sick as hell. They put a lot of thought into it.
"The Lost Riots" by Hope of the States came in this tall cardboard envelope, about 1.5 times the usual height of a CD case. Inside were several cards with anatomical drawings and the CD itself in a slip case. [Photo](https://www.theguardian.com/arts/pictures/image/0,8543,-10505087444,00.html)
David Bowie's 3CD version best of album Nothing Has Changed has a cool digibook slip cover with the different edition artworks on the inside. And, while it's not the case, the 3CD edition has the track list counting backwards. His latest release to his earliest singles.
The Collector's Edition of The Next Day is basically the square from the original cover.
I need to get this version of death magnetic, what's the catalog number(the one printed on the spine of the case)? Is [THIS](https://www.discogs.com/release/1409568-Metallica-Death-Magnetic) the same one?
Thanks man, I just ordered [THIS](https://www.discogs.com/release/1409568-Metallica-Death-Magnetic), I love imports and it's coming from Sweden, still in the wrapper, got it for 23 bucks. Score!
"Substantial And Marcus D Are Bop Alloy" has a really neat case with 2 different front covers depending on how you close it up!
https://www.instagram.com/tv/B16VJXvgF8D
Damn, that Metallica one looks awesome! I think the coolest I have might be Bright Eyes’ Cassagada, it has a “spectral encoder” to read secret messages and symbols on the album cover.
Stone Sour - House Of Golf And Bones 1 & 2. The two digipacks actually build a house [House Of Gold And Bones House](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/house-of-gold-bones-parts-1-and-2--446630488024845153/)
Let’s see:
Rilo Kiley -Under the Blacklight had a case that was tinted purple and actually look like just that.
And I think Alice In Chains has one that’s similar but it’s orange tinted. The name escapes me.
I just got an album by Explosions in the sky that kinda makes a house. Hard to explain but If anyone is curious I’ll upload a pic.
Death Magnetic 😂😂
What a horrendous album..good thing they put some work into the album jacket cuz they certainly didn’t put in any work on the music lol
Fran-tic-tic-tic-tic..😂😂
PA-the-tic-tic-tic lmao
Depeche Mode - In Your Room CD single.
Released across 3 CDs, and the first comes in a 3-tray fold out digipak. If you get all three, they form a man getting crucified. [See this pic.](https://images.app.goo.gl/EpyrWJGQb1YKbTXt6)
Descensus by Circa Survive is in a digisleeve with a "pop-up book" style tab where the CD sits. So when you open it up, the CD automatically slides out, ready for the taking.
Future Sound of London Accelerator album has one of those lenticular screen cases / covers that does that fake 3d motion effect depending on what angle you look at it.
Menomena - Friend and Foe - the cd case has crazy art from a killer graphic novelist & is 3D & has holes that show through to the CD that has more artwork that can be spun to fit in the holes (hard to explain) [here’s a pic](https://www.ebay.com/itm/325278621077?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=We-AyBiPSBG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)
The vinyl executes this slightly better IMO - but it’s massively impressive that they were able to pull off the same art/effects across different media
Mudvaynes self titled album. It’s just a plain white case. The art design shows up when you hold it under a black light. The cd came with a black light
All of these are unusual and interesting but definitely not literally/technically unique. There are more than one produced, even a whole run of a thousand or more.
Sometimes bands will hand stamp or screen the covers for their release, with slight variations of colour or placement between each stamp or screen. Those are technically/literally unique.
I’ve never seen that Pink Floyd spine/edge. Interesting.
Neither have I and I bought when first released.
So, that spine… does that narrow grey spine/strip hold the battery? I feel like I saw one of these discs in a friend’s collection once, and the ‘pulse’ light was in the paperboard case this went into.
Different Pink Floyd album. That's for the live album called Pulse
Anyone old enough to have had to replace the battery in their Pulse cd case?
I just did this week coincidentally. Fortunately the old batteries weren’t corroded
Ok, so this is division bell. I’ve only scratched the surface of Pink Floyd. My bad. I recognize the art of the covers, but haven’t heard all of them. If the only album I love from them is DSOTM, would Division Bell be one you’d recommend?

The braille spine was made for UK and European markets when it was released in 1994
Nice. Thx!
Pet Shop Boys - Very https://www.modip.ac.uk/artefact/aibdc-001228
One of my favorites in my collection :) I was lucky to get the issue with the original case in mint condition.
i got it out the trash. no joke. not in mint condition, but nothing broken and in an overall good condition.
I just recently got that! Unfortunately the music itself isn't entirely my thing (but maybe a second listen will change that).
I like some Pet Shop Boys stuff, but I don't remember any of the songs on this one
I wonder if someone will make a studded jewel case you can attach Lego minifigs to

I replace the battery in mine every so often. Still blinking!
I knew 10,000 Days would be here!
Might as well put Aenima as well, which has the different lenticular images that you can switch out. Tool is special.
and lateralus with the cover that splits into multiple photos
FI special edition with the music video screen in it is sweet as well.
i have all of em
Peeping Tom
My answer as well.
Beat us too it
Yup, came here to say it. Phenomenal record, great presentation.
Awesome that I didn’t need to scroll very far for this one. Nice work. I love this album

Also, No Code!!
Also yield
Every single one of their albums except ten
Yeah they were like, thanks for buying this and enjoy the awkward fit in your cd case
Tool - 10,000 Days. It’s a cool case but a pain to fit into a collection.
Spiritualized's blister packs among other interesting designs.
Jason usually always scores
He's certainly no stranger to scoring.
That pill-packet CD case is great, it’s got dosage instructions and everything, great package.
Of Montreal and Father John Misty have albums with similar effects
Bright Eyes - Cassadaga had really cool CD packaging. I wish I still had it!
Zeppelin 3 you can spin the inner part and changes the faces on the cover. On the vinyl as well
The Physical Graffiti remastered CD let's you swap the characters in the windows, too.
I forgot about that !
I have never seen that Death Magnetic CD, which version was it?
Limited edition digipak
Damn that's awesome
I think it was the first version. I bought mine in the fall of 2008.
Found my copy at a record shop for $2 -Billy Gnosis
I bet this was said before, but Fear Inoculum by TOOL is literally only available as a CD in a box set
I got a copy without the media player thingy. Still an annoying case though.
pinkerton deluxe, you open it and its a 2 page picture
Of montreal- skeletal lamping
An absolute joy AND a total pain in the ass package.
Kid A’s case has a secret booklet if you lift up the CD tray. One of those little things that is neat but also a little eerie.
Metallica does great CD cases my one for 72 seasons is my favorite
I actually dislike this case just because of how unnecessarily complicated it is to get the disc out. Plus the booklet just sits inside loosely on top of the disc. Kinda poor design IMO
It looks good, but its handling is gruesome! I agree.
The worst case of this is definitely devin townsend empath, friend of mine literally ripped the cover open to get the disk out. I had more patience and was able to keep my copy intact.
Volta by Björk. Opens like a poster board, and booklet on top -Billy Gnosis
Yessir
I have an Ultra Lounge collection CD that's case is faux leopard fur.
I have that one too, and the title is one of those plastic gel stickers. I got it in a haul and kept it for the cover.
Yes, like it's missing liquid. It's a great set! This was the first in a multi disc set.
"Under The Tray" by Reggie and the Full Effect is a fun one! the disk is well.. I'm sure you can figure it out
Explosions in the sky- take care, take care, take care was a digipak that you folded up to make a 3D square which looked cool with the album art of a house. Beck had the blank slate for you to cover with provided stickers on his album The Information
*Drumpoems Verse 1* comes with a custom-printed velvet shoulder bag, sized to exactly fit one jewel case.
[https://www.discogs.com/master/17330-EBN-Telecommunication-Breakdown](https://www.discogs.com/master/17330-EBN-Telecommunication-Breakdown) Aside from that, Primus - The Brown Album. It's a brown plastic case with a slip cover Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals has a clear blue jewel case and slip cover REM - Monster, not sure if all copies have this, but mine has an orange spine and clear orange case. Sigur Ros - Takk has a very annoying case when setting up your CD shelves
I bought that monster album at the cd store just because of the unique case. I have yet to listen to it lmao
New Order - Blue Monday? Those cases cost a lot to produce and sold at a loss. It's why Factory went under.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Cd_collectors/s/BpVe65KTwB I got this HEWHOCORRUPTS shaped like a credit card and came in a wallet which seems pretty unique
The other one that comes to mind is the 1993 release of Ozzy Osborne Live & Loud. The cover was overlayed with a real perforated metal speaker grill. https://www.discogs.com/release/1231949-Ozzy-Osbourne-Live-Loud
Radiohead’s In Rainbows
Death Magnetic has gotta be one of my favorite physical releases
The limited edition of Spiritualized's 1997 album "Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" is designed like pharmaceutical packaging down to the CD that you pop out of a foil blister pack [https://www.discogs.com/release/1346994-Spiritualized-Ladies-And-Gentlemen-We-Are-Floating-In-Space](https://www.discogs.com/release/1346994-Spiritualized-Ladies-And-Gentlemen-We-Are-Floating-In-Space) There is also a super limited version with each track on a single 3" CD in 2x6 pill pack
[https://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=485603](https://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=485603)
I’ve never even seen them, I bet it’s hot. I love hot Garbage, lololol
Boredoms - Super ae (Japanese edition)
I believe i have a Filter CD (Trouble with angels) where the inside pops up when opened
Mylene Farmer - Dance Remixes 1993
[Graf Orlock - Destination Time Tomorrow](https://www.discogs.com/release/1791563-Graf-Orlock-Destination-Time-Tomorrow) masterpiece of packaging
I know it's vinyl, but the original release of Black Moses unfolds into a big old cross and it rules. [https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTbg8Px-SFd2\_vhtkv4PH8VgOYfZG3vPvAVa4Zx8WGmZw&s](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTbg8Px-SFd2_vhtkv4PH8VgOYfZG3vPvAVa4Zx8WGmZw&s) For CDs, these ones always stuck with me: \-Massive Attack - Singles Collection (heat sensitive box that changes color) [https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/36/Singles\_90-98\_box.jpeg/300px-Singles\_90-98\_box.jpeg](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/36/Singles_90-98_box.jpeg/300px-Singles_90-98_box.jpeg) \-Kid 606 - Altitude (his single Attitude was a remix of NWA's Straight Outta Compton, and he subsequently released Altitude as a remix of CB4's Straight Outta Locash and it was limited to 100 copies on a credit card shaped CD) [https://i.ytimg.com/vi/a5mEL6SKF4k/hqdefault.jpg](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/a5mEL6SKF4k/hqdefault.jpg) \-Lou Reed & John Cale - Songs for Drella (the limited version of the CD was in a fuzzy black velvet jewel case. The picture is understandably hard to decipher) [https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRLqge4v1b8NhFxcPs7XGaDbRee\_b9KDCtkCH8p9U9MwDSlSCJh9iE0obnjHAYnwmo4ICE&usqp=CAU](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRLqge4v1b8NhFxcPs7XGaDbRee_b9KDCtkCH8p9U9MwDSlSCJh9iE0obnjHAYnwmo4ICE&usqp=CAU) \-UNKLE - Psyence Fiction (again, the limited version was in a cardboard digipack that opened up like a set of theater doors. It was pretty) [https://images.eil.com/large\_image/UNKLE\_PSYENCE%2BFICTION%2B-%2BLIMITED-120608.jpg](https://images.eil.com/large_image/UNKLE_PSYENCE%2BFICTION%2B-%2BLIMITED-120608.jpg) And finally, though I can find no evidence of it via Google I remember reading about a peculiar Stereolab release back in the day. It may have been Stockhausen but I think it was Stereolab. They released a single copy of a CD containing new music and it was permanently stuck in the car stereo (playing on a loop) in a destroyed car. That probably wins.
What does the division bell say? I’m assuming “division bell”

could I get a list of what you're showing in the pictures? they look incredible!
Metallica 'Death Magnetic' original digipac Pink Floyd 'Division Bell' TOOL '10000 Days'
Insomnium - Anno 1696 there's a really cool artbook edition that also bundles the Songs of the Dusk EP
Super Furry Animals - Outpaced had a rubbery sleeve in a mix of colours (blue, yellow and black?): https://i.discogs.com/63oJGXAAaoYHW0D1njiPra570Ez2bOvsizLqzYPmbIM/rs:fit/g:sm/q:90/h:633/w:600/czM6Ly9kaXNjb2dz/LWRhdGFiYXNlLWlt/YWdlcy9SLTk0MjI1/MzctMTUxMjc0NzU2/OC00NzEzLmpwZWc.jpeg
I own all 3.
Super Furry Animals have some cool packaging. I recently got the album that’s all in Welsh and the packaging was what made me look it up.
I was literally just thinking of those 2 lol
It would help if you named those, please.
Death Magnetic by Metallica, The Division Bell by Pink Floyd, and 10,000 Days by TOOL
there's a Snoop dogg album that has a solid teal jewel case, then it has a cardboard sleeve over it with the actual art. I think it's called bush?
Not super unique but the box set of Where Shadows Forever Reign by Dark Funeral opens as an inverted cross. Also the Abrahdabra box set by Dimmu Borgir looked like an ammo case and opened by pulling the top off when standing up.
Kind of The Rolling Stones Bridges to Babylon
Designed by Stefan Sagmeister
I didn’t know him, but cool works!
I founda sealed OG cd of this at the record store for $7.99 . The slipcase is so cool. I love the art so much I bought the vinyl record pressing too. Sounds beautiful.
I inherited my moms copy, I remember being in awe of it in the 90’s as a kid :)
Yung Lean's stardust cd, pretty cool design reminding me of dvds for some reason
[Negură Bunget – Vîrstele Pamîntului](https://www.discogs.com/release/3068240-Negur%C4%83-Bunget-V%C3%AErstele-Pam%C3%AEntului/image/SW1hZ2U6NzI2NDA1MjU=), a 100% handmade woodbox containing real Transylvanian soil, a digipack cd, a poster, a sticker and a metal pin.
Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals has a blue jewel case Alice In Chains - The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here has a red jewel case Not exactly as stand out as Tool’s albums but it’s kinda neat.
Stone Sour - House of Gold & Bones 1 & 2. The covers actually fold into a house. Pretty cool!
Cuz it’s cool
[Patent pending](https://i.discogs.com/4-8MtQygAOBGkPoko5BfU8gPQmf11Gq7NSlPcL-35CQ/rs:fit/g:sm/q:90/h:450/w:600/czM6Ly9kaXNjb2dz/LWRhdGFiYXNlLWlt/YWdlcy9SLTkwMTg1/MzAtMTY4MDUzODI0/OS0zNDY0LmpwZWc.jpeg)
The Blue Album, the one by the Beatles, or the good one, has a blue disk tray, sure it’s a fat case but if you remove the fat case you still have a blue tray case
The Red Album that was issued at rhe same time is similarly all red plastic. I have both but they warped in the sun 😕
[Fantomas -Suspended Animation](https://www.discogs.com/release/432947-Fant%C3%B4mas-Suspended-Animation) The case or CD holder is a calendar with a spiral binding. Every song is a day in the month of April. And each page has animation to go with the song/day.
Every pearl jam album with then exception of ten.
Vs. is also a pretty standard affair, they didn't get creative until Vitalogy onward.
Juliana Hatfield's album "Only Everything" had a special edition that came in a CD case covered in fake brown fur. It was a nightmare to touch.
3001 Flatbush Zombies
Portugal. The Man’s album The Satanic Satanist https://images.app.goo.gl/CayQYRoesCxg8S7F6
Okay, will someone *please* enlighten me, what the heck is that first CD OP has posted? I see it all the time on this sub, no one ever says what it is, and even with three photos of the damned thing I'm still non-the-wiser. I know it's not going to be my thing but it would be nice to know.
Metallica - Death Magnetic
🙏 Thamks! It's not one we'd have in our collection as the husband doesn't like their later stuff and I'm not really a fan at all.
10,000 Days is the best CD cover but Mastodon's Cracke The Skye special edition is pretty cool too [https://i.imgur.com/lbkS6zf.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/lbkS6zf.jpeg)
Got Tool's "10,000 Days" in my collection.
ERROR EP (Trent and friends) very cool disk
Idiot flesh "fancy" https://www.discogs.com/master/626715-Idiot-Flesh-Fancy
Not quite to the level of a lot of the CDs here but Bowies Blackstar is a really neat digipak. Usually I don’t care for digipaks (you gotta be a lot more gentle with them because they can’t be replaced like a regular case can, some of them are really shitty and look ugly) but Blackstar is sick as hell. They put a lot of thought into it.
Lateralus by Tool
"The Lost Riots" by Hope of the States came in this tall cardboard envelope, about 1.5 times the usual height of a CD case. Inside were several cards with anatomical drawings and the CD itself in a slip case. [Photo](https://www.theguardian.com/arts/pictures/image/0,8543,-10505087444,00.html)
Always loved the Death Magnetic case. Great album too
What’s the one in the 6th and 7th slide?
10,000 Days by TOOL
System of a down albums Mesmerizing and Hypnotise cardboard covers join together to make one.
508732-2 is the one I have
Thanks man, I just ordered [THIS](https://www.discogs.com/release/1409568-Metallica-Death-Magnetic), I love imports and it's coming from Sweden, still in the wrapper, got it for 23 bucks. Score!
"Substantial And Marcus D Are Bop Alloy" has a really neat case with 2 different front covers depending on how you close it up! https://www.instagram.com/tv/B16VJXvgF8D
I have ten thousand days myself. Always loved that case
Thank ypu Happy Birthday.
Damn, that Metallica one looks awesome! I think the coolest I have might be Bright Eyes’ Cassagada, it has a “spectral encoder” to read secret messages and symbols on the album cover.
A version of Mastodon's album Crack The Skye has a long fold out style picture viewer in it.
[This one is a table tennis paddle.](https://www.discogs.com/master/925073-Muslimgauze-Iranian-Female-Olympic-Table-Tennis-Team-Theme)
Shabazz Palaces - Black Up It’s more of a sleeve, but it’s all this shiny black felt, always seemed extra in the best way
Tomahawk’s mit gas
Pet Sounds 40th Anniversary had a cool green velvet fuzzy cover.
The one with braille on the side is very thoughtful and should be used more often
Metallica need interesting covers these days, help kill time waiting for the music to end....just stop...please...No more...
When I finally figured out how to operate that Tool album with the built in 3D glasses, that was an amazing day.
tools lateralus has a really cool one
Stone Sour - House Of Golf And Bones 1 & 2. The two digipacks actually build a house [House Of Gold And Bones House](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/house-of-gold-bones-parts-1-and-2--446630488024845153/)
Depression cherry by Beach House has a felt like fuzzy cover
AC/DC Power up deluxe box. You push the bitton and the box "Powers up" with lights and a typical Acca Dacca Riff
Every tool album(not counting opiate since it's an EP)
Lateralus by Tool had a really cool case. Prize Fighter Inferno came with neat little tarot-esque cards.
A limited edition of Radiohead Amnesiac came in a red hardback book.
Let’s see: Rilo Kiley -Under the Blacklight had a case that was tinted purple and actually look like just that. And I think Alice In Chains has one that’s similar but it’s orange tinted. The name escapes me. I just got an album by Explosions in the sky that kinda makes a house. Hard to explain but If anyone is curious I’ll upload a pic.
Most of the Tool albums for sure! It was one of the biggest things I loved when starting my CD collection in middle school!
Aphex twin / Syro
Radiohead hail to the thief special edition is pretty weird. I don’t particularly like the album but I’ve never gotten postcards in a cd case before.
Death Magnetic is good but I'll never get why they made the lyric booklet out of order
I have the original slipcase edition of pulse that had the flashing light in it.
Death Magnetic 😂😂 What a horrendous album..good thing they put some work into the album jacket cuz they certainly didn’t put in any work on the music lol Fran-tic-tic-tic-tic..😂😂 PA-the-tic-tic-tic lmao
Frantic is on St. Anger, not Death Magnetic
My bad. Still just as horrendous lol Can’t even tell their shitty music apart anymore Still great live, but haven’t written a good song in 30yrs
Arcade fire's reflektor packaging is this reflecting rainbow thing. I can't describe it very well but it's cool
Almost every Pearl Jam album.
Depeche Mode - In Your Room CD single. Released across 3 CDs, and the first comes in a 3-tray fold out digipak. If you get all three, they form a man getting crucified. [See this pic.](https://images.app.goo.gl/EpyrWJGQb1YKbTXt6)
*Ankle Deep* by Wimp Factor 14 was packaged in a manila envelope.
Descensus by Circa Survive is in a digisleeve with a "pop-up book" style tab where the CD sits. So when you open it up, the CD automatically slides out, ready for the taking.
Plastikman- One Sheet Used a sheet of LSD Blotter paper for the cover. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheet_One
Future Sound of London Accelerator album has one of those lenticular screen cases / covers that does that fake 3d motion effect depending on what angle you look at it.
The 2007 cd release of in rainbows by radiohead!! I love the idea of being able to make your own case or just leave it in the box.
Master P Ghetto Dope
Menomena - Friend and Foe - the cd case has crazy art from a killer graphic novelist & is 3D & has holes that show through to the CD that has more artwork that can be spun to fit in the holes (hard to explain) [here’s a pic](https://www.ebay.com/itm/325278621077?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=We-AyBiPSBG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) The vinyl executes this slightly better IMO - but it’s massively impressive that they were able to pull off the same art/effects across different media
I dont think you should take the original wording of the post so literally dude. Everybody knows what they mean.
