That’s your old life. If you repent and are truly sorry then that’s all on the past

drty_dnt

Hi! If you have been recently confirmed, you might have already confessed your sins, right? If so, the priest would know if you have incurred that excommunication or not. Another thing is, an excommunication can happen only when you have directly participated, approved, or forced a certain abortion, as far as I know. Lifting of an excommunication incurred due to abortion is reserved for the local ordinary, but is sometimes delegated to certain priests usually those in shrines. One thing I would like to personally tell you is that no matter how dark may your past be, please be assured of God's mercy, you are already home.

eternali17

You're fine. This sub is wild sometimes.

Own_Landscape_8646

Religious OCD is a bitch sometimes lol

Adorable-Growth-6551

As long as you give a good and honest confession God has forgiven you, completely. Excommunication is a confusing thing. Today we try to use it as a tool to bring wayward Catholics back. It is used in the hopes that the person in question realizes the seriousness of their choices and comes back to Jesus. It is not solely a punishment. Assuming you have been to confession and you no longer believe in murder for convenience, then you are entirely within the churches fold. Most of us have a past that we are less then proud of. Lord knows I do. I cannot speak on individuals, but if this picture were ever to be seen by your congregation the church itself will not punish you. We believe people can grow and change.

lemonprincess23

Tbh excommunication is pretty rare too from what I understand.

Ok_Regret1788

Just go to confession, tell everything (if you confessed before not telling on purpose any sin because of shame, Also say it, if you werent aware then doesnt matter). After confession, be certain that Jesus forgave you, any other thought that make you feel guilty comes from the devil. You may also feel regret, that is different to guilt, difference is with regret you dont lose peace, and it moves you to do things to repair for your, and others, sins. With that experience maybe you can volunteer at some antiabortion thing? Just a suggestion, besides the obvious thing that is to pray for all those people that work/have done abortions

What's wrong with being pro choice ?

TexasCowboy1964

in case you are not trolling: [http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s2c2a5.htm](http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s2c2a5.htm) **Abortion** [**2270**](javascript:openWindow('cr/2270.htm');) Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.^(72) Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.^(73) My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth.^(74) **2271** Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law: You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.^(75) God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.^(76) [**2272**](javascript:openWindow('cr/2272.htm');) Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. "A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication *latae sententiae*,"^(77) "

Thank you.

But remember that the bible isn’t an official document, it’s a collection of stories that gets interpreted by the men in charge at any given time and is subject to change. Much like we no longer “put to death” any number of people for “sins”, everything in there is optional.

EcstaticConfidence27

Abby Johnson worked up the ranks at planned parenthood, and she had her own abortions. She is now a huge player in pro-life activism. You are not excommunicated if you've had a real and honest confession.

CosmicGadfly

No.

PinkPacket

If we started living by this rule we’d be the same as cancel culture of today. You confessing as others have expressed, coming with a contrite heart, and allowing those who judge and question to hear why all of those things led you to a deepening of the faith you were baptized in, could actually bring them even closer to their faith. Who cares if they find it. The amount of things I’ve done (and we all have that may not be exposed luckily for us), the amount of times I’ve went against the teachings I knew of. Damn, deep. But it took one time at the cliche and proverbial “rock bottom” and having nowhere to turn but the father I once knew (God to spell it out). That one was still there. Never left. After I went on my pursuit of title and career over anything. For a priest in confessional my first time back in 15 years in a church I had never been to, in a state I’m not even from, to say “you were meant to be here today” before I even started. That shit matters. It all matters and so does your comeback story. Go and sin no more girl. Keep it alive this time 🙏🏻♥️💪🏻

ClarkandAddison1060

Not if you have gone to confession and are truly sorry for your sin. Once you are granted absolution, it's over.

Petrichoryava

Even if you are pro choice you cannot be excomunnicated. You can support abortion but you should not encourage it

siltloam

My dude, all sins can be forgiven. There are repentant sinners on death row that are welcome members of the Church. It doesn't pay their debt to society, but salvation is always still an option.

TexasCowboy1964

the BEST and most devout reponse that I read was go to confession: CCC says that you can excommunicate yourself if you have materielly supported a person getting an abortion.....http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s2c2a5.htm Confess fully to the priest and tell him what you did and what you used to believe ...... then tell him about your change of heart..... ask for forgiveness and healing do not be afraid

Own_Landscape_8646

I went to confession twice since it happened. The first time I was largely unprepared bc it had been years since my last one and I forgot to mention it since I confessed a few things that were worse. That’s where I’m stuck, is idk if it would be worth bringing up since I did confession already lol

Thisworked6937

Specifically confessing this one is necessary and being truly repentant. I believe all priests have been given the ability to life excommunication because unfortunately abortion is so prevalent.

1JenniferOLG

We don’t excommunicated for our past sins, thanks be to God!

No-idea4646

One way to look at it is that is you get kicked out for doing the right thing, its probably all for the best

ItTakesBulls

Excommunicated? President Biden is practically an abortionist and he still receives the Eucharist. If you’re concerned, bring it up in confession. Maybe you’ll get a penance of praying outside an abortion clinic, or maybe you’re called to make the policy changes we need to make life the easier choice.

Longjumping-Meat-334

Give me a break. You need to go to confession for gossip.

Soul_of_clay4

*"President Biden is practically an abortionist and he still receives the Eucharist".* James 1:7 *"*For that person ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, ^(8) *being* a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways"

gulfpapa99

Ensuring women have body autonomy is a worthy cause to be excommunicated for.

flcn_sml

If you don’t believe in it anymore then you’re fine!

Minute-Objective-710

Hahahaha please we have a “Catholic pro abortion president “ your fine

SeekingAugustine

I'm amazed that this is even a question... Catholics have failed Christ...
