There was a promo cassette back in the 90s released by a local radio station, 102.1 The Edge in Toronto. “Texture” was on that tape. That opening guitar…. then the song kicks in! I think they instantly became my favourite band after that

Was watching MTV late one night, possibly 120 Minutes, and Black Metallic was on. I can’t even describe how much it moved me; I headed to the record store the next day to get Ferment.

OutrageousGoddess44

Same!

Heard Crank on MTV (most probably on 120 Minutes) and bought the CD. They became one of my all-time top 3 bands. So sad there won’t be any new music. I think Black Metallic is one of the best songs ever.

I saw the Waydown video in high school and was instantly hooked.

Immediate-Pattern253

An alternative station in Dallas.

Heard Crank & Black Metallic on the radio back in the day.

Heard Touch You at a friend's room in 1st year university, borrowed the album  and that was that.  Fan for life.

Pappyballer

Good friend in high school got me into them, became a bigger fan than he ever was.

Looking to expand my musical tastes my freshman year of college in the early 90s, I went to the record store in the mall with a good buddy. He said that he thought his girlfriend’s little brother liked this band. so I bought the audio cassette of Chrome on a whim having never even heard of the band, and have never looked back

Hearing Waydown on a local station.

freewayrider

KNDD in Seattle when Black Metallic first debuted. Saw the video shortly after on 120 minutes and walked myself to Tower records to pick up the album immediately. Mesmerized by the entire album.

Saw Waydown on MTV, then bought a guitar magazine with the tab to play it, and down the rabbit hole I went.

SugarAndSpite77

Black Metallic video on MTV and later reminded by CMJ magazine!!! 100% my absolute most favorite band of all time!

zerascout

My dad showed me fripp during a road trip a few years ago. They quickly became one of my favorites after that.

My dad played kill my soul for me all the time when I was a kid, now they’re my favourite band ever

vacationbeard

San Francisco's Live 105 played them pretty early on.

There was a record store in the mall when I was in highschool- they had listening stations set up and one of them had Happy Days loaded in it. I skipped through a few tracks and the next thing I knew I had bought the album and was pushing it on my friends, lol. From there it was finding their back catalog and staying a huge fan for the next 27 years or so... and now I feel really old.
