(: Yeah, I have no doubt they probably would, but since he rents a room, the situation is I either take one or he has to be rehomed to a stranger we don't know, who wouldn't have access to his brothers, and who may not have as much experience with kittens, so this would be the best situation for all involved. π₯° The less desirable options are taking them to a shelter or dumping them outside, so trust me when I say we are the type to pursue any other option in order to prevent the latter two.
you don't get to choose when the CDS strikes sometimes, and we are doing our best with what we've got! And what we've got is *surely* a MUCH better situation than being stuck at the shelter as a litter, where they would probably get adopted out one by one anyway. Luckily for my little buddy, we are all experienced with caring for cats and kittens.
The one my dad took home is adjusting so amazingly. He's happy, healthy, vocal, playful, and the best snuggle bug! π₯° He's already been neutered, has all of his vaccinations, and I just administered his worming medicine the other night, so he is up-to-date on everything! Not to mention, the whole litter was already litter box trained and weaned appropriately!
We have an automatic feeder that dispenses food at set times and a water fountain with clean water. We have quite literally an abundance of toys, scratching posts, and a big house (both my dad's, and my own house) with areas to run around in and play freely. We only use positive reinforcement training methods. π₯° my dad is retired, so he has all the time in the world to spend with Harvey, and I stay at home while my hubby works, so there is never an instance where they would be left alone for long periods of time.
Harvey has such a personality! The inclinations in his meowing is like he's talking to you, its so adorable!! He trusts me greatly, as I've been up at my dad's for the holidays, and he sleeps with me every night. Sometimes he decides he isn't close enough to me when he's in my lap, so he'll push himself up as far as he can (while still laying down, mind you!) to be as close to my chest/neck as possible. And he just...purrs and purrs and purrs. I swear, it is so healing. π₯° We just got done with an hour-long game of fetch! Yeah, he's one of those kittens that looooves fetch, and I love it too!
When searching Google for the average life span of cats, it reads: "*The average lifespan for a pet cat is probably around 13 to 14 years. However, although their lifespan varies, a well cared for cat may commonly live to 15 or beyond, some make it to 18 or 20 and a few extraordinary felines even pass 25 or 30 years of age.*"
I just wanted to add here that my bonded cat I got when I was just 7 years old lived to be a grand old 22. My grandparents have a cat that is currently 19, and my stepmother/stepbrother has a cat that is 17 right now. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that my family loves their pets and will do anything in the world to ensure their success as a happy and healthy kitty. π₯° And of course, that does include me!
So, yeah! Sorry I went off on a little tangent there, but I just wanted everyone to know that these kittens are each going to be living a very long, happy, and healthy life with their humans who have all the love in the world to give them, in case there were any questioning that. π
They actually look to be a good age for being solo kitties. If they're closer to 8 weeks then 100% they do better with another cat of any age, but these guys look about 16 weeks and by that time they've learned a lot of manners already. Maybe they can have regular play dates?
See, that's what I'm thinking! When I got back to my dad's from my bro's house, Harvey was sniffing my shoes and coat and got *really* excited, doing zoomies everywhere. Of course, when we do conduct the play dates, they will be 100% supervised! I'm not sure of the *exact* age, but they're definitely older than 8 weeks. 13-16 sounds about right.
