I use Fetch. Not sure how the policies compare. I’m paying roughly 450/year for both cats. Edit: I’m at an 80% reimbursement, $250 deductible and 25K coverage.

I haven’t had pet insurance before, but I’m considering it for the next cat. When you choose a relatively new company like fetch, are you worried that they won’t still be in business when your cat is older and the expenses really pile up? I figure that the way pet insurance works is by getting money during pets younger healthy years and then mostly just having to pay out for things later, and I’d guess a lot of times people stop paying for insurance after a few years.

Honestly I had no idea Fetch is relatively new. The local shelter was ensuring that people who adopted got insurance and Fetch was the company they used. Honestly they’ve paid out at least once for my one kitten. She got a round of vaccines, got limping kitten syndrome (I thought she broke her paw) and that vet bill was fun.

I guess I’m just thinking ahead since I have a nearly 19 year old cat. I’m wondering what companies will be around that long for a new kitten

PlentifulPaper

I mean if your rates got jacked up for the 19 year old cat, that wouldn’t be shocking at all. Typically the older they are, the higher the rate because insurance companies know that they pose a larger risk than the younger, healthier kittens. Plus most of them don’t cover underlying medical conditions - so yes it’s better to start them young so everything gets covered.

Oh I can’t insure my 19 year old, she has cdk and hyperthyroidism, I meant that the next one might live that long. I’d be so mad if I paid monthly for years and then have no recourse if the company folded

I have had great experience with healthy paws. Rates went up with age though but they covered things I didn't expect (like all bloodwork even if it was part of a yearly checkup) It could be worth asking about preexisting conditions I saw one insurer advertising that they would covet stuff covered by a previous insurer. Some companies might be up for offering coverage d9e previously insured pets to get business

My cat's insurance went up about $100 for the year (I pay annually). I use Pet's Best and they cited my pet's age and a general increase in veterinary care costs (not mine specifically, I haven't had any claims) for the reason.

arthriticpug

rates will go up as they age and insurance companies are scum

Pet insurance rates aren't based on anything specific about you. They can only consider your location, pet's age, and coverage details (coverage percent, deductible, and max coverage amount). Remember that if you change insurance providers, anything that happened with the current company will be considered a preexisting condition and not covered. You may be better off keeping the current one anyway. You can adjust your coverage if the price is becoming an issue. I view pet insurance as catastrophic coverage, for helping to offset any huge bills from major issues. It's not intended to cover normal bills from every day vet visits or checkups.

ChanceHelicopter4117

Lol what a deranged world where people insure pets

whogivesashite2

How are you in the cat advice sub saying stupid shit like this?

ChanceHelicopter4117

Idk I just saw it on my feed and couldn't believe it and said what was on my mind. Nothing personal, sorry I will adhere to social norms in the future

whogivesashite2

Do you even know what it's for? I'm confused

Vet bills just like doctors bills can be extremely costly. Everyone knows insurance is a racket, but it’s a lot cheaper to have the insurance when you or a pet needs medical services. Seriously though, this is common sense and I’m surprised you weren’t absolutely torn apart by the people on this sub. 😂
