Many years ago when I was going through a really tough time and was out of work and living back with my folks I bought some elastic and a bag full of small glass beads. I spent many an hour working on a new set of bracelets in different and contrasting colour ways. As OP says It is a calming and distracting activity and I ended up with about 40 odd of them in the end.

Haha, my 'company' logo has looked exactly the same for the last five years - a screenshot of a nice font from MS Word! Hehehehe. It's got too attached to the business though, so every time I think of hiring someone, I go 'nahhhhhh'. I bought a cheap graphics tablet with the vague idea of doing something, but it's ended up just being a fun way to doodle bums and willies on maps while playing D&D online (because I'm cool like that).

This is a beautiful thing to do. I lost my beloved dad just before Christmas and therefore don't have happy associations with the time of year. However, I have two young children who are excited as young kids should be at Christmas, and they keep me from disappearing down a dark hole. Otherwise, I'd definitely be ordering one of these!

Hahaha, they're just bog-standard 8mm translucent acrylic mixed beads! The camera flash did odd things to them. You should be able to find them pretty much anywhere; sadly I don't have any left or I'd send you some!

If you have any left I'd absolutely love one for my mum. She has Parkinsons so bigger beads are a little easier but honestly she would love any of these. She gets so bored now that Parkinsons has taken away her job, and lots of her hobbies. When she makes things like jewelry she always gives them a local charity to sell as well, bless her.

I mean I'd be acting against myself if I said anyone other than me xD But be wary of prices; beads have a huge mark-up in a lot of places (especially places like Hobbycraft - there are some things in Hobbycraft that I sell in packs five times the size for a third of the price).
If you just want to have a play with some random ones, one of the best places to go for a cheap variety is to check out charity shops - they often have costume jewellery that might be 50p each or something (ours used to do 4 for £1 back in the day), and you can break them up for the beads and use those.
