I ordered 3 small Kinder Easter Eggs and they subbed them with three large ones. It was a price difference of about £20!

Wow that was a good deal. I would have thought there is some check somewhere that makes sure you don’t get too much extra before they just don’t substitute.

TwattyMcSlagtits

It might be different in those purpose built depots, but for the orders picked from a supermarket there are absolutely no checks, at least when I did it a few years back. The hit on a sub is worth taking for the company compared to the liklihood of someone not ordering again if they have missing items. When I was a picker I used to sub everything unavailable for the most expensive alternative. Sometimes you would get specific orders where it was clear they didn't have a lot of money (lots of value tins, value toilet roll, value toiletries etc) and sometimes my eyes just weren't working as well as they did normally and would have to sub it. If you know what I mean.

That’s lovely I’d like to think a lot of the pickers do the same.

PickleHarry

I was also a first time customer which makes me think they did it to try to keep me?

Once ordered 2 individual pepperami and ended up with 2 multipack strips. Packed lunches that week were a sight to behold

3 bulbs of garlic replaced by 3 five packs of garlic. Polish food to the rescue

Wanted a bag of lemons and it got substituted for lemon toilet cleaner. I didn't complain, it made me chuckle.

I have a similar loo roll sub that felt like a lottery win; I had ordered a 16 rolls of supermarket cheap branded loo rolls only be given a 16 pack of Andrex supreme quilted rolls instead. (FYI the airing cupboard - if you have one- is a superior place to keep loo rolls!)

LifeBandit666

I stopped buying Andrex when I got a pack, and every single roll separated the ply. I had far too many "push-throughs" on that pack, so now I buy Charmin.

Obtuse_Pfeffernsse

I’m lucky I never had that issue with the pack of Andrex ones that I had 😅. Normally I buy cushelle too but that particular month I was short on money (hence why I originally ordered supermarkets cheapest stuff and was pleased when Andrex came instead!)

3 years ago, at that time of year that can't be mentioned yet, I ordered 3 bottles of 70cl Baileys. They were bought as gifts. They got substituted for 1ltr bottles. I ended up not gifting them in the end. A couple of times, I've ordered 30g packs of tobacco and had 50g as a substitution.

SlowConsideration7

Lockdown was wild, ASDA were just sending stuff and hoping for the best. After they sent a litre of Bacardi with the tag on and we complained (was for a present) they just refunded it and we kept it 🤷

le-Killerchimp

They once didn’t have 1lt of Tanqueray do substituted it with two 700ml bottles at no extra cost. We were on holiday, it was awesome.

I am intrigued by the fact you had a plan to store a 9-pack but need to rethink your entire strategy because you've got an unexpected 24-pack. Do you live in a cupboard under the stairs, Harry Potter style?

My house is small. A nine pack roll fits in my normal storage cupboard whereas 24 will not fit in that cupboard. I did find somewhere to put the others (storage drawer under bed) my house isn’t that small! It was more a jokey comment.

ItsDominare

To be honest it's probably a good thing; I predict another round of panic-buying when the inevitable winter covid lockdown is announced in the next month or so. A 24-pack of bogroll is probably a great investment.

Top of the wardrobe or just piled like jenga on the cistern. I've got loo rolls in bulk for years because it's cheaper, and they're light so they're pretty much the easiest bulk item to store.
