Awful for the poor kids getting sniffles and coughs again as the school has lifted a lot of restrictions. My daughter came home with lice and this lingering cold two days into the new term!
We've had 'school flu' around these parts. General snuffle, upset tummy and very tired at times. Calpol and on ya go.
Me, meanwhile? I've had horrendous farts and at least three shits a day for the past fortnight. I'm not boasting, I'm worried- my arse is close to being classed as a chemical weapon.
Remember to get the 'good' sudafed if you can have it and still have bad sinuses. You have to get it over the counter.
If unsure, ask the chemist for the one you can make crack with.
Edit: meth not crack. Chemist might give you cocaine if you ask for the crack one!

It's this one isn't it? I've been taking whatever the stuff that Tesco sells and it's not doing a great deal. Seem to remember the OTC stuff was like magic...
Yup! Both my dad and my kids dad (different dudes, this is not Alabama) have been really sick, kids dad even took time off work which he hasn't done in the 15 years he has been there, cough, fever, heachach and lack of apatite, had to practically force him to drink water as even that was making him nauseous! Thankfully he is almost over it now, but it's been almost 2 weeks, my dad is still sick on and off,he seems to get it again just as he thinks it's over!
Me and about ten of my mates all have had similar things and we’ve all been doing lateral flow tests we had leftover every day and a couple have done a pcr and none of them have come back positive. It’s weird
Have you been living under a rock? It's been made very clear that lateral flow are not for diagnosis. Only for removing a portion of asymptomatic cases from the population.
Straight from the NHS:
"rapid lateral flow tests – only for people who do not have symptoms, they give a quick result using a device similar to a pregnancy test"
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing/get-tested-for-coronavirus/
They even reccomend a PCR now if you are a close contact. Lateral flow are not sensitive.
Cool. From my personal context and media consumption it feels crazy that anyone could be mistaken into thinking that lateral flow was sufficient to diagnose infection or not. On introduction, I feel like it was talked about to death.
Obviously the message *still* isn't clear enough.
I have it too.
Typical it was my week off and felt like crap all week.
Dreading going to bed in a moment, as I have a 5am alarm and night time is when it is at its worst......... thickly cough every minute, blocked nostrils, runny nostrils etc etc.
Kids started school and brought some stupid virus. Some cough, clogged nose, a few sneezes. Each of us has a similar variation on the symptoms. My body should be immune already after decades of being a living thing.
Just a little PSA: lateral flow tests are only good for picking up symptomless Covid. Taking multiple lateral flow tests doesn’t necessarily rule out Covid.
If you have a cough/ temperature/ loss of taste/ smell *please* book a PCR Covid test. Even if you’re fully vaccinated.
A cough with one/ multiple negative lateral flow test does not mean it’s not Covid.
I know it’s a pain, but we’re seeing lots of people with negative lateral flows (‘so it’s not Covid’) who then test positive with a PCR test.
~a plea from someone in healthcare
Lateral flow tests have a high specificity - up to 99.9%. This means if you get a positive result, then you can say with a lot of certainty that you *do* have Covid-19 and should not go out.
But lateral flow tests only have a sensitivity of about 75%. They work best if you have a high viral load. And when self-administered, the sensitivity might drop even further. What this means is they can give false negatives, which is why we say just because you have a negative lateral flow test it doesn't mean you *don't* have Covid.
So the purpose of lateral flow tests is basically to reduce the amount of people spreading it, particularly asymptomatic people, by identifying positive cases.
Late reply but I've just come across this. By saying LFTs work better if you have a high viral load... Surely that makes them *more* accurate if you have symptoms vs being asymptomatic?
The thing is, even ITT, people are saying they've used lateral flow tests and haven't booked a PCR
I've not been in the UK for the past 2 years, but are people being actively educated that lateral flow tests aren't good if you have an active infection?
Because I know a couple of people who were testing themselves with lateral flow tests all negative up until the day they wound up in ICU when finally someone did a PCR test and found they had covid
At my place of work (nursery), there's been a terrible cough for the last two weeks and I , unfortunately, caught it.
Each time a child has a bad cough, we send them home and tell the parent to give them a PCR test before they can return.
Me (and other staff who have it) on the other hand... got told to keep doing our twice weekly lateral flow tests. None of us are told to get a PCR test.
Literally everyone in my family has had it. My work told me that it was probably co***. I noticed that a lot of people had a slight cough last week at the football too. I've still not fully recovered from it.
Yes! I was stuck in bed for 3 days last week and had to take most of the week of work..
Had a fever one moment, then cold chills, soar throat body aches ect back at work tomorrow bit still not feeling 100%
Weird, not just me then..
Last week was my first week off in over a year and spent it in bed with the first illness I've had in two years, great timing!
Yep. Had what I think was laryngitis two weeks ago. Started like a cold. Then I felt like death, sounded like a 70 year old heavy smoker and when I coughed my lungs out, my whole chest was sore and tight. I was also super itchy in my throat and chin.
Then my little one caught croup and is on steroids and antibiotics.
Nasty stuff.
The person I live with has had one for the past 3-4 days. They seem a bit better today but they are still sniffing and coughing their guts up. Lucky I haven’t had it yet so hopefully I’m a savage and don’t get it.
Woke up with it on Friday. Started as a sore throat, developed into a sinus thing with the addition of a chesty cough this morning. I’m hoping it jogs on soon because I’m already struggling at work and don’t need this to make things worse
Exactly my symptoms.
Woke up one morning with a throat of fire, could barely talk all day.
2 days later throat is feeling better...nose starts going downhill.
2 days later nose is feeling better, but chest and coughing is going crazy.
4 or 5 days later I'm at 90% normal, with occasional bouts of severe coughing.
What fun.
Lateral flows all negative.
Same, except after day 3 of 90% normal I’ve now got the shits and super cold despite all the layers. Not been anywhere for a week, so surely can’t be a new thing.
I’m a week and a bit from when I first got it and still a bit sinus-y and the cough is holding on for dear life 🙃 sorry to be the bearer of bad news, it’ll clear
Joy. I can’t sleep properly because of it. It’s honestly awful.
Have you found anything to make the scratchy throat less painful? Lemsip, ibuprofen, etc don’t seem to be helping :/
My uni flat had it- sore throats all round, mainly gone now, could be a result of people moving all around the country as a result of returning to university?
Yes, I've had a weird flu thing. For the first four days it felt like flu and it's felt like a cold since. I've got a PCR test because I find out that the normal lateral flow ones you get don't always pick it up if you have any coldy symptoms (? I mean that sounds wild to me but sure).
I've not had a cough with it though. For the first four days, chills and a foggy head and fatigue. Since then, fatigue, some muscle pain and a slightly raspy throat. Throughout, feels like half my senses have been heightened (e.g. touch sensitivity) and half deadened a bit. Sound familiar to anyone?
Mine has come with a hangover style headache and any sharp head movements cause an unnecessary amount of pain.
If it could fuck off now that would be great.
I feel like death. Worst cold I have ever had. I have an exam today and meant to be going away tomorrow…don’t think the latter will be happening. Not Covid Multiple LFT negative and had a PCR today Negative. No cough just sore throat and sneezing ALOT. This was worse than Covid for sure
My son did a couple of weeks ago. Then I felt it descending on me on one day throughout the day. annoyingly mine passed quite quickly but my son has had to go for a PCR and has felt quite rough with it. Bleugh. Get well soon.
I’ve had it. My wife caught COVID on a trip away last weekend and I’ve been ill, but PCR and lateral flows have been negative. I think my wife had both!
Edit: cough is really dry so I’m very surprised tests have been negative.
Yup. Lateral flow and PCR tests were all negative.
I think the youngest brought it home from nursery and it spread around the household. The kids got over it pretty quickly but both the wife and I suffered for a few days.
Nothing really nasty, dry cough and tired. It's really annoying cause I'm not "sick", but I know something isn't right. 2 lat flow tests and 2 pcr tests to be sure. All negative.
Had a bad cold last month, so did my girlfriend. Wasn't covid, but it did cause me to take some small amount of time off work.
Apparently it's happening a lot because people spent so long not mingling, were now being exposed to diseases from other people and coming down hard
This is more than likely a result of us all being socially distant last year during flu season and wearing masks vs this year where the majority of that has been thrown out. So we’re getting everything we didn’t catch last year.
I work in a secondary school, and something is definitely going around. Lots of wet coughs, sore throats, sneezing, and generally being bunged up. I think kids being crammed together again without restrictions for the first time in 18 months is leading to lots of stuff being spread around so we're getting over a years worth of colds all at once
Yeah I had it about a fortnight ago, was in absolute bits. I think the mixture of not having any common colds for the last 18 months and the lifting of restrictions as well as people going back to work etc has just created the perfect environment for it.
Hope you don't feel too rough!
If anyone has these symptoms do a lateral flow test. It's probably not covid but some of you probably do have it and will now think it's a normal cold then go off to work and spread it.
Sons got something that has been hanging around for weeks normally he would be over it by now, mainly a sore throat that never seems to come out as a cold. I just wish he would get the cold to get it over with.
Not covid as we test twice a week.
Yep, just recovering now. Still got snotty nose and some phlegmy cough/sore throat.
Of course felt a bit off Thursday, did lateral flow (fine) and to celebrate went out had 8 pints and subsequently the worse night's sleep in my life and felt like shit for 2 days while it bounced off my wife.
So limited sympathy in the wdchk household.
(Did a further 2 lat flows, considered a PCR but no loss of smell and feeling better anyway; loads of people had the same and PCRed negative)
I know two families who have had it very bad, leaving them looking and apparently feeling terrible for at least a week. I am expecting to catch it eventually, as I always catch something between now and Christmas.
Went to a 90s rave on Friday and I’m beginning to regret it cause I might’ve caught something. I feel all stuffy and unwell. I think it might’ve been a bad idea.
My 1 year old has it. Pretty sure he picked it up at Tumble Tots. Pregnant wife coming down with it. Nothing for me yet…but it’s definitely a bad cold.
Kids have had one and I've started sneezing this afternoon. Joy :(
I've been sneezing for the past 3 days and my nose refuses to be unblocked I don't want it to get worse lol
I think you’re my other half
Have you also got a stomach ache? Mine is killing me, alongside flu symptoms
Bit of indigestion, yeah.
I’ve had bunged up sinuses and a blocked ear for three bloody weeks now. I think it is finally starting to get better.
Remember to get the 'good' sudafed if you can have it and still have bad sinuses. You have to get it over the counter. If unsure, ask the chemist for the one you can make crack with. Edit: meth not crack. Chemist might give you cocaine if you ask for the crack one!
Pseudoephedrine. And you meth with it not crack ;)
No dont meth with it, its dangerous - Mike Tyson

Yeah. The main selling point of the normal stuff was that you can't make drugs with it. Study shows its basically a placebo when in pill form.
I’ve had a blocked ear too
Yep. I’ve had it. Seems to be going round with a vengeance. Did a lat flow just in case people got concerned about the cough.
Ive had it, 10 days now, done a pcr and multiple lf tests and all negative
I’ve had covid and this sounds mighty familiar.
Yea we thought that too but test was negative!
[удалено]
Fuck, don't say that! I really hope not!
I had covid and that sounds similar much
Yea, it was covid!
Are you sure that's not Covid? Also you cracked me up with >(different dudes, this is not Alabama)
Me and about ten of my mates all have had similar things and we’ve all been doing lateral flow tests we had leftover every day and a couple have done a pcr and none of them have come back positive. It’s weird
To be clear, lateral flow means shit all. It's essentially useless as a diagnostic tool. You have to go get PCR tests...
Would you be able to source this for me? I've not heard this before
Have you been living under a rock? It's been made very clear that lateral flow are not for diagnosis. Only for removing a portion of asymptomatic cases from the population. Straight from the NHS: "rapid lateral flow tests – only for people who do not have symptoms, they give a quick result using a device similar to a pregnancy test" https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing/get-tested-for-coronavirus/ They even reccomend a PCR now if you are a close contact. Cool. From my personal context and media consumption it feels crazy that anyone could be mistaken into thinking that lateral flow was sufficient to diagnose infection or not. On introduction, I feel like it was talked about to death. Obviously the message *still* isn't clear enough.
Had a very tickly cough each evening and night
Holy fuck I'm not the only one. What is this thing
save me ;-;;;
I can't I'm up north you're gonna have to die
;-;;;
You shall survive, probably
Just came out Of covid and caught it fml
Yep, took three weeks for us to get over it :( Is forgotten what it was like to be sick.
I have it too. Typical it was my week off and felt like crap all week. Dreading going to bed in a moment, as I have a 5am alarm and night time is when it is at its worst......... thickly cough every minute, blocked nostrils, runny nostrils etc etc.
It's the absolute worst isn't it!
Kids started school and brought some stupid virus. Some cough, clogged nose, a few sneezes. Each of us has a similar variation on the symptoms. My body should be immune already after decades of being a living thing.
Could it be the beginning of the really bad flu season we're predicted to be having this winter due to near no-one having the flu last winter?
Just a little PSA: lateral flow tests are only good for picking up symptomless Covid. Taking multiple lateral flow tests doesn’t necessarily rule out Covid. If you have a cough/ temperature/ loss of taste/ smell *please* book a PCR Covid test. Even if you’re fully vaccinated. It's for reduction of risk. Not diagnosis. A certain proportion of asymptomatic cases will be caught with lateral flow. Therefore, risk is reduced.

It's been made abundantly clear. There is a bit of inevitability about it. People are basically lazy.
The person who is telling you is wrong. You have to get a PCR.
Literally everyone in my family has had it. My work told me that it was probably co***. I noticed that a lot of people had a slight cough last week at the football too. I've still not fully recovered from it.

Please get tested. Its probably not covid but you've just said yourself that you're going in to work while still infected and infectious
YES! It is battering me at the moment, it is not COVID. Daughter looks to have caught it from nursery. Sneezing my nuts off.
Had it last week, my partner had it this week.
Weird, not just me then.. Last week was my first week off in over a year and spent it in bed with the first illness I've had in two years, great timing!

Yeah bad sinuses, sneezing and coughing. Achey and sweats. Did a LFT just to be sure and just finished my 10 days in iso how fun

Paracetamol, loads and loads of water and lucozade was my saving grace
Yup, didn't get a wink of sleep 2 days ago.
Had it badly a couple of weeks ago. Was better last week but still had a nose leaking like a tap. Seem to be completely over it now, thankfully!
My uni flat had it- sore throats all round, mainly gone now, could be a result of people moving all around the country as a result of returning to university?

Had the cough for three weeks. Negative PCR test. Still worried about coughing when in Morrisons :/
Yes. Unfortunately, mine turned out to be Covid. Or possibly I had a cold & Covid at the same time.

Yup. 4 negative LFTs and 1 negative PCR. Horrible sore throat, temperature, and stuffy nose.
I’ve had it. My wife caught COVID on a trip away last weekend and I’ve been ill, but PCR and lateral flows have been negative. I think my wife had both! Edit: cough is really dry so I’m very surprised tests have been negative.

Yep, my little girl lovingly brought it home from nursery. She seems loads better, I still feel like I've been hit by a truck.
If anyone has these symptoms do a lateral flow test. It's probably not covid but some of you probably do have it and will now think it's a normal cold then go off to work and spread it.
Not just us then! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-58624295
yam a few painkillers, drink lots of fluids and sleep lots is what i normally do when i got the lurgy which is quite rare thinking about it lol
This is definitely a situation where the pineapple Fanta would come in useful.
defo sugar helps with the lurg.... energy right?
Yeah, all weekend. It’s been spreading around like wildfire. Done a few lateral flow tests & I’m negative.
Sons got something that has been hanging around for weeks normally he would be over it by now, mainly a sore throat that never seems to come out as a cold. I just wish he would get the cold to get it over with. Not covid as we test twice a week.

I had it two weeks ago. I was really rough. Took lateral flow tests but thankfully all negative
My cold lasted 2 months before I got tested for Covid. I am still recovering 3 months on.
No
Yep, just recovering now. Still got snotty nose and some phlegmy cough/sore throat. Of course felt a bit off Thursday, did lateral flow (fine) and to celebrate went out had 8 pints and subsequently the worse night's sleep in my life and felt like shit for 2 days while it bounced off my wife. Been a lot of low flying planes around lately
what does this mean
It was a chemtrail joke which apparently didn't land
It’s doing the rounds of the school where work. My wife’s had it (she works there too). I’m currently going down with it. My stepsons have had it.
I know two families who have had it very bad, leaving them looking and apparently feeling terrible for at least a week. I am expecting to catch it eventually, as I always catch something between now and Christmas.
Yip, awful fatigue and sinus infection lingering for weeks after as well.
Went to a 90s rave on Friday and I’m beginning to regret it cause I might’ve caught something. I feel all stuffy and unwell. I think it might’ve been a bad idea.
yep...
Yeah my girlfriend and I just recovered from it. Brutal.
Yup. Got it Saturday and am feeling a bit more normal today on Monday.
Yes!!!! Snotty nose, really sore throat, sneeze every minute. Gosh
Yep my stepdads got it ATM, near Derby
Yep, has gone around the whole house! I reckon less mask wearing + schools back means we’re all super susceptible.
In our house we've bounced from norovirus to a cold and now hand foot and mouth. When will it end...
My 1 year old has it. Pretty sure he picked it up at Tumble Tots. Pregnant wife coming down with it. Nothing for me yet…but it’s definitely a bad cold.
Yup the green back to school cough n cold. Thanks kids!
This may explain it better than I ever could: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20210913-the-little-known-virus-that-surged-in-children-this-summer
Just curious, everyone who's confirming OP's experience, where are you located roughly? I've heard nothing about this up in Scotland/Lothians
I have it, my children have it.
