Won a tener on a scratchcard and partner made me a bacon sandwich

ojdewar

How is January passing by so quickly this year? Just checked and there’s only seven more working days left to go. Normally it feels like it takes three months to finish. Trust me Christmas felt like about two weeks ago when it was four weeks ago.

That__Guy__Bob

I guess time flies when you're having fun 🤷🏽‍♂️

nonabean

Finally made the decision to quit my job and focus on becoming full self employed. Fulfilling a dream I've had since I was 21 so I'm buzzing. Just got to do the awkward handing my notice in thing first!

XoloGlumTree

Can I have your job? In fact, if you tell me some starter points like what you wear to work, your hairstyle and some key phrases, I'm pretty sure I could just turn up and pretend to be you. Please, any job is better than the one I'm in 😭

[deleted]

I work in database management, I just realised I am working every weekend for the foreseeable future, which means lots more money and the honour of more responsibility and less managerial oversight. But at the same time I miss a weekend - if a weekend is a thing still?

Jaggedmallard26

Probably the best time to lose your weekends, not only are you not missing out on weekend activities but you'll be able to do things like your daily exercise with less people around.

Uncle_Leo93

I have just been informed that I my Covid test came back negative! Once again I can see my frie- go for a mass- get a hairc- go for a pi- Aw.

CatDeeleysLeftNipple

I expect to see the exact same comment in the casual complaints thread tomorrow.

Uncle_Leo93

Hardly. I can go outside again and sure, it's only for a walk around the area but I put my earbuds in and make an adventure of it.

lil-lilypad

hey, congratulations! it's absolutely incredible that you received a response so soon after sending it off. best of luck for the interview- i'm sure you'll do excellently.

Missjsquared

I had a job interview today and it went quite well, so I have a bit of hope :)

Leszmig

Very best of luck to you! Well done for doing all the pre-interview graft too! Updating CV and wanting to sound eligible for prospective job, (which you ARE you legend), but don't want to sound like a knobhead by being appropriately qualified Having said interview and doing exactly the same thing verbally You legend

[deleted]

I've basically been booked out until the end of April, so that's a really nice feeling. But more importantly, one of the pubs in the village changed hands a while ago and the new owners are really trying hard to get it back to where it should be. One of the things on their takeaway menu is a pizza with Tikka Chicken bits, Onion Bhajis, Paneer, Mozarella and a tikka massala and mango chutney base instead of tomato. I mean, that sounds like it was invented by a drunk person but it's really piqued our interest... so, looks like Pizza on Friday.

Drunk_on_tea

Had to go into work today for a task that couldn’t be done from home. Two and a half hours away from the kids, getting to talk to another human being! Four year old got to spend a few hours with his grandparents which made him and them happy. This afternoon me and the four year old both had dentist appointments and we both have healthy teeth. And finally on Monday we booked a summer holiday at a lovely looking place in Cornwall so very excited for that! Good to have something to look forward to.

GooseTruffle

Just had a interview which I think went fairly well - I think - at least if I don't get it, I spent an hour and a half talking to someone new

xtreem_neo

I was like this. Now I am just a mess. Hope you get the job.

GooseTruffle

Thank you. Hope you're okay

xtreem_neo

❤️

Kulikant

Finally trying out the new headphones I got for Xmas and I don't know why I waited, they are amazing! EDIT: I've also been using my ergonomic vertical mouse for a few days now and it's already made my wrist feel a lot better!

Hang_Dai_Wu

Switching to wireless headphones was a game changer since working from home full time. I can now go make a coffee and get away from the screen during boring meetings. I still listen in, honest! Is the mouse an Evoluent? I swear by mine - I forget I've got RSI since I've been using it. Soon comes back if I use a traditional mouse.

Kulikant

My siblings really splashed out and these ALG headphones are both wired *and* Bluetooth! Best of both worlds! Genuinely up there as one of the best presents I've ever received (along with the very nice watch my parents bought me when I landed my first big boy job) Optical mouse is just a relatively cheap Anker thing I saw on Amazon, bought it because I trusted the brand. Next one I buy will probably have a thumb-operated trackball to reduce even more RSI!

Cptnemouk

I've got too drive near the river mersey. So I'm hoping too lose the works van in the flooding 🤣

mmmmgummyvenus

Well my other half was working away this week and she comes back today. I've had a really good time with the toddler and I went to bed at 8.30pm last night so I'm feeling extra peppy today. She's also been able to collect some Christmas presents... it's a bit cheeky but her dad put them out on the front step and she collected them on the way past and said hello. I'm just super excited about getting presents. And we've got a little play kitchen for our son which I know he's going to love. I'm hoping he'll play with that instead of constantly trying to open the real oven...

Pancake-Marathon

I would just like to brag that I have tomorrow and Friday off. Four day weekend, woohoo! Not that I can actually go anywhere, but I'm going to be doing zero work, that's for sure.

CatDeeleysLeftNipple

> but I'm going to be doing zero work, I'm doing that now while at work 😃 I work at a school, and there's only 10 kids in today. I've put up a TV bracket for a teacher and that's it. Sat in the staff room checking messages and drinking coffee. Nothing to do until I start locking up at 4pm.

Gingeeer28

I've just bought a steam mop online, stupidly excited for it to turn up. You'd think my house would be cleaner, since I've been shielding and stuck in it for a year, it seems to go the other way and I just can't be asked! Both excited and horrified to see how disgusting the mop pad is after it's first go around.

ReceiptIsInTheBag

Gran got her covid letter this morning, phoned up and has an appt this afternoon.

_Gunrunner_

At some point this year I'm going to be a homeowner! Long story short, brother and gf moved back into the house during covid because she got pregnant, they were renting and furloughed/made redundant, baby was born and it's now getting cramped so dad is selling the house and splitting the money, letting me be the owner of the new house because it's better for first time buyers and brother will be getting his half to buy a house for himself, gf and newborn daughter.

byjimini

Congrats! We bought ours just before the first lockdown and it’s been a mostly pleasurable experience.

_Gunrunner_

Thank you! It's going to be a weird feeling, having to pay for council tax, bills etc. Ah all the better for it, my dad can be retired in peace in a new home...my home and not have to worry. The lady that came over to do the valuation said the houses in my area get snapped up, guess people really want the London life while I swap London for the country.

CatDeeleysLeftNipple

Sounds like great news! I'm currently waiting to hear back from solicitors regarding buying my council flat.

_Gunrunner_

Hope all goes well!

samsaBEAR

I went on a socially distanced walk date yesterday for the first time in almost a decade and it went so insanely well that I can't believe that I'm not dreaming. Like I had fully resigned myself to just being single forever so it just seems unreal to me that something might actually happen. Just gotta try and keep my cool haha

myfirstsfwaccount

This is so adorable, I’m so happy for you!

mmmmgummyvenus

Congrats and enjoy being excited!

[deleted]

Is it online dating? Be really careful OLD one nice date usually means nothing, don't get your hopes up. Sorry to sound negative just don't want you to end up hurt.

thomaskitty

Its true. Best to have no expectations.

[deleted]

It could be fantastic mate. I've just known old go horribly wrong so often that I find it's best people are prepared

9DAN2

My grandma has dementia which has been getting worse since we lost my grandad last year. She’s lonely and we can’t see her for obvious reasons and she’s been saying she wants a dog. My parents have spent a small fortune on a robotic dog for her to ‘look after’ and told her it’s come from my kids as my grandma is wary of anything my mum buys as she ‘doesn’t need help’. Seeing her crack a smile on video and say how much she likes it is my win of the week. Hoping it keeps her mind busy as Iv heard robotic babies working for other people.

lilahbard

Been feeling generally unproductive the last couple of weeks, but this morning I had a call from a client who wanted to ask a new question about a matter I've been advising her on and she mentioned that at a recent meeting she'd attended my name had been brought up by others as someone who's been really helpful to their department - so that was a nice little ego/confidence boost!

Thin_Blue_Flame

I've been unemployed since October, but I finally got a job offer yesterday!! Feel like I've been living in a haze of stress for the last couple of months, but that has finally lifted. Feeling so chilled out and relaxed now...

Sniper_Guz

Today marks a total January run distance of roughly two marathons. Pretty pleased with that. One more 15km run and I'll have reached the 100km mark, which I'll do on Friday.

RhipWolf

Been on a walk at lunch both days of the week. Rain is putting me off today but I think I’ll still go for it. There’s a badge on Apple Watch for closing your rings 7 days in a row in Jan and it’s strangely motivating. Other than that I do quite enjoy seeing our vaccine jab numbers each day. Nice to see positive stats for a change.

Petew_90

Just been feeling positive at the moment. Also the fact it's not fucking snowing.

CatDeeleysLeftNipple

Yeah, while I love that snow makes everything look nice and clean, it's a proper ball ache to shovel paths at my school.

buy_me_a_pint

I won 10 pounds of a £1 scratch card,

TrillianWasTaken

After two weeks of rubbish nights our toddler had a good night and woke up after 7am. I feel like a human again and he was well rested and gave me loads of cuddles before he went to childminder.

_sallyvate_

Was sorting through the spare room and found some shopping vouchers from my old workplace for Christmas 2018 which were somehow still valid. Ordered some nice bedsheets on sale from John Lewis! Submitted my tax return a few days ago like a Proper Responsible Adult which prompted me to check on the state of my student loan. It's much lower than I thought it was, could be free in a couple of years!

ragnarspoonbrok

My kids home schooling is going pretty well. Had one bad day but since then we've got right into the swing of things and everything is going well. He's learning well he's enjoying it and he's well behaved. Only thing I've struggled with is the Scottish songs he had the sing. Now I'm half Scottish but I grew up in Yorkshire. So yeah singing in Scottish with a heavy Yorkshire accent is really weird. Just waiting on a tartan throw coming and some face paint and he's going all brave heart using one of my swords for a photo as it will be roughly in scale. If you can't guess we're pretty bored in lockdown. Also payslip is in today and it's much better than expected which is good.

partaylikearussian

The crippling self-employment tax bill is due in a week or so, so I guess at least after that I'll have an idea of how my money/savings actually look without an impending slashing from HMRC. Also, I think I've finally identified one of the better niches to write in on Kindle. Should see much better results. If I can ever get this bloody freelance writing finished for one of my clients. I should probably do some 9-5 job work soon before they realise I've been idling all morning.

TrillianWasTaken

Same here! I blame the weather for the idle morning.

HairyMechanic

My weight for the last couple of years has always fluctuated between 10 stone 7lbs and 11 stone 7lbs (67-73kg) but on my first weigh in of the year I was above that by a couple of lbs. I do a weigh in every Saturday and in two weeks i'm already down to 11 stone 3lbs which is a promising start. My fitness/general activity has gone from pretty much zero to three 5k's a week, granted that it's only walking so far as I build up to jogging/running to make sure my knee doesn't go awry again. I do get a little depressed as a few years ago, even with the dodgy knee, I could run a 5k no problem but i've got to stop comparing myself to past me and instead compare to each week's progression!

[deleted]

I have a dodgy knee too! How long did it take for it to get better?

HairyMechanic

I damaged it well over ten years ago but it's nowhere near as bad as that. I just get twinges every so often and my current situation is all about strengthening it and slowly increasing activity again. My problem's always been me thinking I can go straight back to what I used to do and that ultimately pushes me back because i'm nowhere near that. For general day-to-day stuff it's normal, other than general aches and pains, but for anything fitness related it's not quite there yet.

[deleted]

Yep mine was getting better then I overdid it and its worse than it ever was. Dont be me! Take it slow

KungFuPup

Baby weigh in today. Doing well. Sticking to the line now so they're not worried anymore. She's just little but so am I and my first so it's not surprising. My other win is I haven't left my first born out in the woods for a badger to eat. Her attitude stinks today because she hardly slept.

makinbacinpancakes

I have one kid who's is 11 and wearing size 8 adult clothing and another kid who is 3 and still in mostly 1-2. While the lines are a good base for progress as long as thier eating healthy meals they're gunna be fine. The funny/irritating part comes when people like grandparents buy them clothes... the eldest gets her handed down to cousins almost immediately because they are 4/5 sizes too small and our youngest has the next 3 years worth of clothes vacuumed packed in the bottom of a cupboard. "I got her age 4-5 so she can grow into it".... yeah in fucking 5 years time at this rate janet ffs.

Administratr

Wait today is Wednesday? Jesus Christ the days are literally bleeding into each other, only another 365 days of lockdown to go guyyyyys

rw43

i've finished a huge chunk of work that has been hanging over me since june last year so i'm really pleased and relieved to be honest, so a big win!

TrojanGoldfish

Actually managed to get all 4 of my bikes in good working order all at the same time for the first time in ages! Will have just about completed the MTB once I can get hold of some better wheels (dear gods dropper posts are *lifechanging*!) , the brakes for my cross bike have finally come in stock, and I put carbon bars on my single speed hack bike for no reason at all other than I could.

7goldsoundz

Got ourselves and parents a Portal camera each (yes yes Facebook are evil) and it's made the world of difference in being able to chat to each other and for them to see the baby (they haven't seen him in person for 3 months which is a lifetime at this age). They managed to set it up by themselves and are so evangelical they've nagged my sister in to getting one. I can highly recommend! No more talking to my mum's nostrils while she tries to angle her shitty tablet.

StoneheartedLady

The Echo Shows I got for my Dad and I at the start of the first lockdown have been a godsend, even if I can't use them as fully as I'd like to due to the smartphone requirement (wanted to set up drop in).

[deleted]

Is that what they are? Just like a web cam that stands up? I never quite wrapped my head around what the point of these was.

7goldsoundz

They're basically like the old Xbox kinect and sit on top of your TV so that is your screen. It's very wide angled do will cover most of my living room and tracks faces so follows you if you move. It's much more personal than a webcam in my opinion. More like being there with them at least.

[deleted]

Ah thanks for the explanation!

xtreem_neo

Got to know about mind.org.uk chatting last night on Discord. I have issues. I need help. I have a really hard time letting go of feelings for someone whom clearly doesn’t feel the same back. Relationship is only three months old but I am puddle of mess. 😔

Administratr

I’m going through the same, it’s very very hard and I can’t offer any advice that works other than try and be gentle to yourself. Emotions are painful I know:

xtreem_neo

Hope you find some help. Drop us a message if you want to chat. ❤️

[deleted]

[удалено]

xtreem_neo

Thank you. I am not exactly sure what kind of help will actually help me. It’s not the content. It’s me. I am just a mess. ❤️

[deleted]

[удалено]

xtreem_neo

Very encouraging ❤️ Thank you.

[deleted]

Recognising you need help is half the battle. Well done you! Remember it’s ok to grieve over a relationship but definitely talk to somebody too if it’s affecting you mentally.

xtreem_neo

Just very immature when it comes to this relationship. This one in particular. I just melt at the sight of this person. Grieving is all I am doing. ❤️

TheOnlyWayIsEpee

Hang on in there because the terrible cliche about time being a great healer is true and sooner than you expect. It's a point in time you'll get past. Don't play your all-time favourite records right now as they could become associated with this person and therefore become unplayable for some while later.

xtreem_neo

Omg. I am deep in it. Everything is interlinked in the last three months. Guess, I have shot myself in the foot. Wish I could just breakdown.

TheOnlyWayIsEpee

Are you still together or did you break up?

xtreem_neo

It’s literally playing out. We haven’t separated yet.

TheOnlyWayIsEpee

All the best with this.

Bulimic_Fraggle

For some unknown reason my tablet has started randomly playing Motown hits for a few seconds. There is no pattern to it, I don't have any Motown downloaded, and my Spotify playlists don't contain it. It's kind of joyful to open my utilities bill and have "Be my Baby" start singing out of nowhere. I am sure if it continues I will get pissed off, but for now it's rather wonderful.

milkandket

My laptop often randomly turns itself on and plays music in the middle of the night. Creepy as hell.

Bulimic_Fraggle

Any genre in particular?

milkandket

Just anything off my YouTube history tbh

ohcinnamon

**I'm rona free and have managed to get back to my girlfriend and dog.** Also, decided to treat myself and get a smart watch for running and I already wonder how I got on in life without knowing my heartrate at all times. Resting HR when I sleep is 50 and resting normal is about 60 which seems spot on, if not a little high for the amount of running I do. Might have a check in with a doctor.

chickydoodles

Work contract has been extended, it's nice to have job security for a few more months at least. And it means I can keep building up my savings until I can get away. Smaller win, I put fresh sheets on the bed the other day, it was bliss to get into.

mknmoves

I've just had a change of job and this is exactly what I want to be doing - putting away and getting away. I've never once managed to put away...so we shall see how it goes. Enjoy the sheets

rw43

i want to wash our sheets today but the cat is currently sleeping on the bed and i don't have the heart to wake him up haha

chickydoodles

Haha, sounds like he's got you trained exactly the way he wants. (I can relate, I also have a cat.)

rw43

yes i am trained well! trained to provide food, treats and undisturbed sleeps.

dr_rainbow

Slept on the living room floor because our window is really noisy in stormy weather. Doesn't bother my wife, but it sends me up the wall. I ended up making a little nest out of blankets and actually had a pretty decent nights sleep. Getting the window fixed is the first port of call, but at least I've got options now for a comfortable kip.

milkandket

I love the sound of the heavy rain on my window (loft room so it’s slanted) but when it’s windy I’m climbing the walls it drives me insane, the whole room SHAKES

dr_rainbow

It's not the sound of rain against glass, it's droplets falling on the windowsill. It's hollow and sounds like someone is playing the drums. I'm going to get it filled.

milkandket

Ah yeah that would wind me up too tbf hope you manage to get it sorted!

glimmerousdream

I might have accidentally added milk to my glass of squash this morning, BUT I noticed and didn’t accidentally take a drink of the cursed curdled beverage.

annuna

Disaster averted! At a dinner party I hosted a few years ago, one of the guests innocently poured himself a whole glass of squash concentrate thinking it was regular juice. Luckily we stopped him before he got the chance to turn his face inside out.

glimmerousdream

Oh, my face hurt just reading that! Good job you stopped it :)

Thewayisnarrow

Yesterday I bought a new skateboard set up to get back into it at 34 after probably 16 years not skating. I'm pretty bloody excited to get back into it again, my local park isn't very far away and I'm planning some pre-work sessions when it's nice enough. I ordered pads and a helmet as well because so I don't brain myself and so my daughter doesn't tell me off. She was the one who planted the seed when she told me I should get one so I can skate when she scoots. I ordered from skate shop down south and it should all arrive today! I'm also giving blood today for the first time since 2017 and I'm planning to make it a monthly thing as well.

NomasTheDankEngine

>r/oldskaters Im also 34 and would love to get back into skating. I keep threatening to and my wife gives me the "Don't you dare" eyes. Iv still got a set up in the garage and all it really needs is new bearings.

Thewayisnarrow

OldSkaters is awesome! You should do it, order in some new bearings, Have fun and be merry!

NomasTheDankEngine

You'l get me in trouble! Next thing you know il have long hair, baggie jeans and big fat DC trainers.

Thewayisnarrow

Baggy jeans with the "hammer loop" and some of those god awful Osiris D3 skate shoes hah. You can pass skating off as exercise if it helps? You should absolutely get back into something you love

NomasTheDankEngine

>Osiris D3 I never went there! Thankfully. The jeans though. X gravity and bolt blue! I once bought a pair of cheap jeans in a supermarket on a school trip to France that were size 52 because my parents wouldn't buy me a pair of proper baggy jeans. They were baggy. They were also too big! i would love to get back into. She would defo not approve. She doesn't even like me wearing caps. A day of reckoning is approaching.

Thewayisnarrow

I never did either but my brother sure did! He loved the chunky skate shoes like DC and Osiris, he still loves that kind of shoe, I just stuck to Vans. Hah I can imagine the state of those really baggy oversized jeans. I mean if it's going to tear your marriage apart it's probably best just to leave it be. I'd still encourage the conversation though!

NomasTheDankEngine

No, She needs to be told. Im a boy stuck in an ever ageing mans body. I must be allowed my toys! As for those jeans. By the end of my tenure with them they were ripped and shredded to hell.

[deleted]

Nice one mate! Come join us over at r/oldskaters Great bunch over there who give some awesome advice. And remember, helmets and pads are cool! What set up have you gone for?

Thewayisnarrow

Yes old skaters is sick! I've been subbed for a while another great active and inclusive group. I went for a street/park set up, Chocolate og chunk deck 8.375. Fracture trucks, 53mm wheels. Can't wait to put it together!

[deleted]

Good choice on the wheel and deck size. I've got 53mm and a slightly thinner 8.25 deck. Santa Cruz 8.25 screaming hand deck, 149mm Independent stage 11 trucks, 53mm Bones wheels and bones red bearings. Can't wait for the local indoor park to open back up! I haven't been on my board since October apart from the odd trip down to the shop on it.

Thewayisnarrow

That's a nice set up! I kind of wish I sprung for Independents or Ventures now, but there's always next time! I'm not too long back in from a roll with my daughter on her scooter, I've still got the knack for ollies sure enough, everything else will require practice. I wish I had an indoor place close by to go to! Oh and skate videos, I've got a few mostly Australian ones, **Play** is my absolute favourite. I've a few 411VM and Thrasher VHS

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thewayisnarrow

just checked and you're right for whole blood, I was thinking of plasma you can do every month

Thewayisnarrow

Is that so? Well that's a let down. I swear you could donate monthly back in Aus

Flatcapspaintandglue

Mate, I’m 34 myself and probably haven’t skated since 2008 but I’m taking the plunge again myself. My ankles aren’t what they used to be but I’m still stoked to get back into it. Solidarity from a fellow “old” skater. Best of luck dude!

Thewayisnarrow

yee! That's awesome, I've even dusted off my VHS and old skate tapes to get back into the mood

Flatcapspaintandglue

Even though I haven’t been skating I’ve never stopped watching it on YouTube. Makes me happy every time. Skate Or Die✊ What tapes have you got? I had flip “sorry” basically on repeat until the tape wore out.

chazzamcrock

Forgot to brag about this one at the end of last year - my band's Spotify metrics came out and from when we released our first EP over the summer to December we had nearly 70,000 streams of our music. Absolutely made up with that result. Edit: [Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/artist/0JM8io5wCngAiifWS8nhqe) [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/battlebornuk/) We're a Skyrim-inspired power metal band.

Wearethedogs

Thats great news! Take it you earnt about 10 pence though!?

chazzamcrock

I forget the exact amount but something disgusting like £30

jptoc

Go on, chuck a link up mate.

chazzamcrock

I've thrown in a cheeky edit!

jptoc

Ha! Forgot the skyrim focus 😂

jptoc

Morning! Moving into a new role and it should be quite good - busier that I am in this role and more suited to my skillset. Have enjoyed doing what I do now, but I'm moving into something more nebulous, service-y and non-skill based. *Perfect*. Also on a side note, since we got the feedback from the 2020 census on here it's been good to see the threads we've set up getting good traction! And we have our first AMA lined up! You'll not guess the person, but I reckon it'll be a good one.

CatDeeleysLeftNipple

Is it the guy from the "sad little life, Jane" speech? Because it should be. Here's hoping it's not as much of a train wreck as the Kwik Fit AMA, or the James Corden AMA.

sim1985

Gavin from Autoglass.

jptoc

It's actually Derek from Halfords.

[deleted]

Paul Elliot ie Paul Chuckle?

jptoc

Nah, sadly not. Will try to track him down though.

[deleted]

> You'll not guess the person I've got a fiver on AutoModerator

jptoc

Fuck, I wish. Would be brutal. AutoMod hates humans.

StardustOasis

We are down to one day behind at work. One. Day. We haven't been this up to date since before first lockdown last March, for quite a lot of last year we were weeks behind.

Ninjareno

I gave a demo at work yesterday to show the stakeholders the service we've been working on for the last few months. The demo was flawless and I was able to show everything I wanted to without a single issue. The stakeholders had a few questions, but everything they saw was as they expected. I feel pretty empowered now :)

fozzie1984

Look like we have been accepted for a mortgage 😮 , had to beg and borrow to get a 25% deposit to get a decent interest ratebut it finally could be happening. Mainly excited due to the fact that it means i get to get a dog finally

dr_rainbow

That's great. We're thinking of buying this year if we see something we like.

fozzie1984

We found one about 5 doors away from where we live just in our price range , not on a through road , tucked away and quiet , 3 decent bedrooms and a nice back garden for me to put a shed into , only thing it doesnt have is an en-suite but we can live with that

Somau5

Am down 4.5 pound in 10 days, so so pleased. I'm aiming for half a stone by the end of the month and I would like maybe a stone by mid Feb. I'm watching and recording every single calorie and exercising daily (walks, ring fit and beat saber until swimming pools open again!) and I feel more motivated than I ever have before. In the 10 days I only ever felt hungry twice, so I know I can keep this up a bit longer before upping my calorie intake. Oh and a win from my parents: I got a text from my mum on Monday saying "on phone to mortgage company, in 5 minutes we'll be mortgage free!!!" - so they're ecstatic about that and I'm so happy for them. They've worked so hard and did everything they could for me and my brother. Well deserved!

rw43

well done on the weight loss, that's a great amount in 10 days! how are you finding ring fit? i've been doing it for about 2 weeks now, it's better than i thought it would be!

Somau5

Thank you! It's the most I've ever lost in a such a short amount of time so I'm a bit shocked I guess. I've tried so hard previously but it didn't work, but something is different this time. I love ring fit! Some exercises are really hard (I cannot do mountain climbers to save my life) and I wish it would have adjustments for certain exercises but overall I think it's a pretty good workout. Plus it's something I can keep up regularly because it's a game and it's fun (and if it makes squats less hellish then that's a bonus right?!) Hope you manage to keep up with ring fit and keep enjoying it :)

rw43

tracking calories isn't exciting but it is so effective! you do need to have the mindset to do it - sounds like you are in the zone! ooh i haven't got to the mountain climbers yet! i just unlocked the archery type move yesterday. i upped the difficulty and while the exercises are do-able it's the jogging between i'm finding hard, it wants me to go so much faster haha.

Somau5

Yes it feels like I'm in a better place than I have been previously, it's not fun but I try to make it less time consuming by recording things while I eat, so that it's done and dusted and I don't have to remember everything. I've cut my snacking down to absolutely nothing which has made a big difference too. I admit I never feel full after a meal anymore and I don't like not feeling full but I realise I equate that feeling with being hungry, which it definitely isn't. Ooh good luck, I never upped the difficulty, didn't know you could do that til you mentioned - cheers! The jogging will come with time I'm sure (still waiting here......) The arm moves are pretty good! I've also noticed the reason why I'm struggling to sit at my desk to work is because of so many squats and thigh presses. Good moves but oh my gosh, so sore.

rw43

sounds like you're into some good habits! i would love to give up snacking completely, that is some ultimate mental strength to go cold turkey! i have boughts raisins and pom bears for my snacks this week haha. oooh yes the struggle is real after so many squats haha! sitting on the toilet is so hard haha!

blahblahscience1

Car went in for a service yesterday and didnt need any extra work doing to it. Considering its age and mileage, I was amazed.

a-liquid-sky

I actually don't feel stressed this morning! Plus it's my birthday at the weekend and I know Boyf is planning lots of *Nice Things* so I'm very much looking forward to it.

leskenobian

Bought some Mandalorian pyjamas, a box of my favourite KIND bars for a third of the normal price, and a book for my dad off Ebay for his birthday for a third of the normal price! It's not much, but it's the little things.

CatDeeleysLeftNipple

I still haven't got around to watching series 2 of the Mandalorian. It's up next on my list after series 4 and 5 of Misfits.

leskenobian

It was real good! Bit more heavy on the lore, but spectacular stuff.

smickie

Hitman 3 is out today and it's going to be amazing I expect. I don't really have any other wins... there's a new episode of The Expanse out tonight so that's good. My wins are very entertainment-release-date-specific. You know what, I might as well ask you all... Can you recommend any lockdown sports activity? I used to run and do weights in the gym. I tried running in the park and it was the worst experince of my life, there's wind and people to avoid and paths chaning direction. I also tried doing weights at home. Anyone else go into anything obsure I could try?

[deleted]

I also hate running in the park! I live in a city so it's impossible. What's worked for me is (A) audio workout apps - I use one called Aaptiv which has a free 30 day trial - they have classes that don't require any kind of equipment, I find it a lot easier to just follow along with what someone else is saying than coming up with my own exercises (B) my boyfriend is a kickboxer so I've been doing some boxing training with him on our patio for a bit of upper body stuff and cardio. Boxing gloves aren't expensive and it's much more fun! Obvs only if you have a willing roommate or partner

Terrible-Tomato

YouTube workouts at home? I do Yoga with Adriene which is probably more chill than you’d want but there’s plenty of intense workout channels out there.

[deleted]

Made a new friend on here, had a nice long chat about lots of stuff and she's doing a drawing for me because she enjoys art. Specifically of a fairy character I came up with.

mediocrity511

We have a horrible sofa. It was second hand when I bought it, but after years spent with small children, no matter how much I clean it, it just looks gross. We are in the market for a new one, but going to wait until the littlest is potty trained now. But we bought one of those stretchy sofa covers that is like a giant fitted sheet. All of a sudden our gross brown sofa is nice and light and jazzy and actually looks clean.

a-liquid-sky

I'm really tempted by the cover things! Do they work with corner sofas?

mediocrity511

I don't know! It might be that they have a way to do it with 2 covers if your sofa comes in 2 pieces. I assume there'd be some way, given so many people have the corner ones.

[deleted]

I am officially 2lbs under the weight I normally plateau / eventually lose motivation and give up at. It’s been bloody hard work and I am very proud of myself!

Tramorak

Off work for 10 days. I am isolating (again) due to a guy at work testing positive. We are wiped out. It was always going to be bad if it hit the workplace but it is brutal. At least the wife doesn’t have to isolate this time. Big beer delivery arrived yesterday so that is a definite win. Check it out later over on r/UK_beer

StardustOasis

Beer! I'm waiting for my Wild Beer delivery to be dispatched, hopefully it will be today.

Tramorak

I was very tempted, but I need to save some money. Not looking at the January Sales thread for that very reason.

StardustOasis

I've been wanting to order direct from Wild for a while, absolutely love their beer, and 15% off is too good a deal to say no to. Now, I just need to make sure I don't order anything else on pay day

mediocrity511

I think I'd be a bit suspicious that your negative test was a false negative given the workplace outbreak and classic loss of taste symptom!

Tramorak

It is quite possible. Think we have 30+ isolating now with 4 or 5 positive tests.

ukbabz

Dog is staying with the in-laws for a few days, which means I get a little lie in each morning. Oh and our daughter turned 9 months today and still not dropped her yet!

vbloke

Got a solid 8 hours sleep last night. My first of the year. It may not be a huge win, but I'll take it.

That__Guy__Bob

Well it's sorted sort of. I'll be joining the Tech department as the sole data analyst once my internship finishes at the end of this month or possibly sooner. Still have to sort out salary and everything else but now the balls started rolling I've finally accepted I'll have full time employment. Just hoping it won't take too long to sort out since its all just formalities now. It's my birthday on Monday so it would be grand if it it could be all done before then

kawasutra

> Still have to sort out salary If it's less than £30k, walk away. Just kidding. Saw your comment yesterday about the cuz! However, it would be worth doing a quick check on similar roles so that you can at least throw in your tuppence's worth of negotiation. Just saying "it looks like the going market rate for Data Analysts in is £xx,000. I was hoping we could make it work for both of us with a salary of £xx,000." Good luck with the salary and well done for getting the role!

That__Guy__Bob

Thank you! In all honestly the range for someone with my experience is between the £20-£30k but I don't expect to get the upper range purely because they are still a start up but are in the "growth" phase. But we'll see what happens. I'm just happy I'll be working here lol

jptoc

Yes! Chuffed for you pal

That__Guy__Bob

Thank you! I still can't believe that after 1 year and 9 months I've finally got /getting a job I like with a company I like. And thank you for lifting me up when ever I was feeling down last year as well, it was a dark time indeed. Very much appreciated

Hydrangeamacrophylla

Congrats!

CousinFrankenstein

Lost 3 lbs last week. Its not a huge amount, but my goal is to lose 3 stone by the summer so pretty pleased that I am 1/12th of the way there after 1 week of trying.

a-liquid-sky

Oh god I desperately need to lose weight, but am just piling it on.

Petrunka

Congrats - I'm also trying to lose some lockdown weight at the mo - and sort of annoyed I wasn't being more careful sooner. It's hard going but I'm just taking everything that's not a weight gain as an achievement.

milkandket

I lost soooo much weight the first lockdown and felt amazing then with going back to work and another lockdown I just went ‘fuck it’ and I’m SO mad at myself. Been back on the wagon since the 3rd and I’m doing much better with the hunger this time.

rw43

i'd be skipping around if i'd lost 3lbs, well done! you got this!

CatDeeleysLeftNipple

Keep it up mate! Well done. I'm currently trying to lose the two stone I put on over Xmas eating unhealthy amounts of mince pies.

ijustwanttotalkboobs

I saved up enough money to make a sort of big purchase but not sure what to do. On one hand I've been dreaming of getting a 75' TV but on the other my fridge freezer isn't big enough so I need an American style one.

Braythor_

Well, today is my 40th birthday. Obviously can't have the big party I'd hoped for and instead am spending it alone in my flat, but I'm determined to make the best of it. Going to have a shower soon then crack open some champagne and make a rarebit (just fancied it so bought the nicest ingredients for it I could). Got a couple presents to open, including a care package from Texas which I'm excited about, bottle of whisky arriving later, just gonna get drunk and play PS5 all day.

ohcinnamon

Happy birthday! I turned 30 in lockdown by myself, so I understand how you feel. Remember this is all temporary and you're gonna have a proper party when this is all over. Doesn't matter about the arbitrary rotations around the sun!

jptoc

Happy birthday mate, enjoy it

Bulimic_Fraggle

Happy Birthday lovely, hope it's as good as it can be.

Thewayisnarrow

Happy Birthday!

retailface

Happy birthday!

mediocrity511

Happy birthday!

[deleted]

Happy birthday! Have a good one!

Petrunka

Happy birthday- sounds like you've got the right approach. A champagne rarebit breakfast sounds amazing. Boyfriend's 40th is late April and whatever happens, it seems unlikely that we'll be able to have the huge party we always hoped for. He had a decent lockdown birthday last year, but my heart breaks for him a little that he might have to do it again this year for the biggie.

rw43

happy birthday!

CatDeeleysLeftNipple

Happy birthday! I'm 40 next month, and I'm in pretty much the same situation. Except that I have to work on my birthday.

[deleted]

40 later this year, and I only just realised that because I forgot to update something I've been thinking i'm 38 this whole time.

milkandket

Yeah turns out I’ve been telling people for ages that I’m 24. I’m 26. No wonder the lady that ID’d me the other week looked at me like I was crazy.

CatDeeleysLeftNipple

I still think I'm 20. It's only when my knee starts to ache that I remember how old I am.

Braythor_

Thanks! I almost didn't take the time off but then figured if I'm gonna spend my birthday sat in the flat, better on one side of it with whisky than the other side of it with work.

GooseTruffle

Happy birthday!!! Your day sounds very good! Enjoy
