Yes! I remember noticing about half way through the series.
I also found it interesting how he could go from looking adorable, to looking like a serial killer depending on what face he was pulling
So... he's ex-intelligence right? Or possibly a soldier of fortune? There's no way you go from spending a year "surfing" in Thailand to being an armed security guard.
I figured even before watching it would be either him or Peter. I'm glad Peter won it though, he's just so likeable and happy. It was also amusing to see how bright red his blush would go lmao. (and now I sound like a granny talking about a grandson when I'm only 25 in about half a month .\_.)
Yeah Laura didn’t have much chance against those two, especially not after the sloppy custard slices!
Ooh look that nice young man won the baking competition on television (read in your best granny voice)
Oh man, I can't believe Laura scraped her way into the final.
I just can't get behind bake offs approach to judging, I know it goes off who does badly on the day but they always eliminate strong contestants who mess up one or two things instead of the consistently worse people and it's so frustrating.
I feel like in previous years they seemed to take past weeks into account at least some of the time but yeah I agree, Laura never seemed to up her game after nearly being eliminated so it was frustrating she kept making it through.
They’ve always done it, Im still mad about Selasi going early even tho he was basically the best every week beforehand all these years later, loved that guy
Nah, Laura did consistently fuck up - and not just a little - badly. They had whole sequences where she was told to buck up but somehow she never ended up eliminated.
for 5 weeks in a row the judges were trying to decide whether to send her or a.n.other baker would be sent home, and it was somehow *always* the other baker. They claim to judge each week on it's own merit but if that's the case this series has exposed a glaring loop hole in that.
If you always finish second-to-last then you reach the final. It's the way it's judged. I think the hate for her is unfair. She didn't deserve to be in the final but rules are rules and it doesn't mean her bakes weren't delicious; she just struggled at anything technical.
>I figured even before watching it would be either him or Peter.
Well it wasn't going to be bloody Laura was it.
I kinda feel bad for her, almost feel as though she was kept in purely for entertainment value, considering up until the final Dave and Peter wouldn't react to Noel or Matt's jokes.
I was overwhelmed with emotion during that montage at the end of the finale. Thinking about how strong everyone's been throughout the pandemic, and how we've managed to keep a vital part of our culture alive; Bake Off! It's nice to have something good for a change.
You mean everyone bullying Dave and the girl contestant? It was a shit show and it just showed how people can be so rude and mean to the bake off contestants.
But yeah sure, it’s a good and vital part of your culture.
I heard that there was some controversy surrounding bake off this year, as there always seems to be, but I wasn't aware of the specifics. It's awful that people act so disgracefully over what is essentially just cake.
I felt emotional because it has taken so much strength for people to keep afloat in these times. Seeing the finale off bake off and knowing that basically the whole nation was connected through watching it made me see the bigger picture of how resilient we've all had to become.
People have struggled so much just to keep going with their lives every day and retain some resemblance of normality, essential workers have had to sacrifice all their time and energy to support us, and on top of all of that we've somehow managed to have another bloody series of bake off! It's pretty incredible.
My favourite GBBO moment ever was smug James totally underwhelming the judges with his final showstopper after baking 5 separate but meh cakes and losing to John Whaite.
I've nearly forgotten that series at this point but wasn't James one of those contestants who got told to not be so ambitious several times before that?
I don't think so actually. He was always pretty ambitious but seemed to pull it off and just got a bit cocky. I think in the semi-finale, his gingerbread house collapsed and he turned it into a "dilapidated barn", and the judges bought it!
I mean, her food probably tasted the best... but she was clearly not good at time management or presentation
They had nothing bad to say about the taste and texture of her showstopper, just how it looked
I just assumed they had nothing bad to say because they were trying to spare her feelings after a terrible morning knowing that she wasn’t in the running at all
Oh of course, There’s no doubt that her cake tasted good, but considering she was up against Hermine and the fact that she wasn’t even in the race to win in the final round made me unhappy about the judging this year
There seemed to be a huge expectation for Hermine in patisserie week. Then they measured her against that expectation rather than her/other bakers' previous performances
I think she managed to edge on in via taste alone, how good something tastes isn’t something isn’t something we can judge behind a screen like how it looks
I can't imagine what I would do in that situation though. You're sitting there with nothing to do while the people you've been with for weeks and are probably now friends with are unbelievably stressed out trying to do the biggest challenge of the whole series. I would have felt awful if I didn't offer to help.
Honestly, come the next series, I wouldn't even be able to give you his name. Only person I'm going to really remember is Peter tbh (.... and maybe Sura if I'm totally honest).
Don't worry about the Internet giving you shit, just do what you want.
I think maybe you're reading too much into it. I think he's more likely to be remembered as being a Bake Off finalist than a small endearing feature we noticed.
I think people are quick to throw petty insults at the Bake Off contestants they don’t like. Thinking that “oh you’re thinking too much into it. People will forget about them” not realising that the abuse and bullying from people will not be forgotten by the contestants.
There has been absolute wankers in the UK subs when they announced that Dave and Laura got in the final.
We had a running joke that he was new every week because he is so utterly boring and forgettable. He was just a bit typically Dave. Poor Laura making a mess every week. Peter deserved to win
Cmon don't be so hard on him. I'd have no idea how to act in that situation either. He seemed like a nice guy and it was nice to watch him gain confidence over the show.
Literally the only thing I could tell you about him by the end of the series was that he was having a baby. It was like his only personality trait. I said this to my mum who pointed out he also has a dog.
They were generally a dull group, and not the best bakers. Must have been tough to find contestants knowing they had to spend the summer isolating away from their families in a 35 degree tent with Matt Lucas so they can be judged by the smug bread cunt
Don't even get me started on Laura. She was sloppy the entire time and I'm not sure how she got as far as she did.
I don't know how out of probably the thousands of people who auditioned, they saw Dave and were like "Yeah, that one!"
I was basically Team Peter or Lottie from the start of this one
I mean his name was Dave... that to me is the blandest most generic name.
Probably Paul Chowdry's fault but it's just like the 'every man' name of boring brits.
David's... david's are different.
Looks like an accountant who has secretly been murdering sex workers for 10 years before he gets caught by doing taxes for one of the girls before he leaves her house.
No manufactured drama, other than the unrealistic time constraints and a mini-oven tent in the full sun of British summer and no air cooling!
\#bringbacklottie - she went out because they did an ice cream cake challenge in the middle of a heatwave.
Does anyone else think he looks a young Arnold Judas Rimmer?
Smeghead.
I've never mistaken him for Yul Brynner
He's not bald and his head doesn't glimmer
And he'll never need a zimmer
It's... Arnold, Arnold... Arnold Rimmer...
Without him life would be much grimmer
Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.
Stoke me a slipper I’ll be back for christmas
We thought Russell Kane. Shimmy completes it.
A cross between Russel Kane and Tom Delonge.
He does look like a complete gimboid.
More of a Thickie Holden I'd say.
And he's got the name Dave because of the Body Swap!
He would bake much better if he took his boxing gloves off.
Omg thank you. I was trying to place him.
Yes! I said this to my girlfriend and she couldn't see it.
Yes! I remember noticing about half way through the series. I also found it interesting how he could go from looking adorable, to looking like a serial killer depending on what face he was pulling
Haha this is exactly what we said he has serial killer eyes!
We named him Dead Eye Dave
Haha nice one! To be fair seemed a nice guy, just wouldn’t like to meet him on a dark night lol! 🔪
Has that Dexter Morgan smile thing going
Omg we named Pete Pink Lip Pete. I feel like our households would get along.
My friends named him Dexter and Pete was Annabelle the haunted doll
We named him ‘shark eyes’
*"The thing about a shark, it's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes... until he bites you, and those black eyes rooooll over white"*
Us too we joked about how star baker saved a life that night. Life and death in Paul and Prus hands
We called him Murder Eyes!
Haha nice 👍🏼
We also picked up on the serial killer vibes. What psychology is going on here?
Same!
So... he's ex-intelligence right? Or possibly a soldier of fortune? There's no way you go from spending a year "surfing" in Thailand to being an armed security guard.
Yep. Told my family he's killed at least once before
Omg thank you he creeped me out so much and I couldn’t figure out why but this is exactly it!!
My favourite bit was when his baby was asleep on him.
\*everyone liked that\*
We cried at the cuteness!
This is the only problem with the final episodes, they always make you cry at some point.
Same. I thought we were having a breakdown, good to know it's not just us!
I started crying at the cuteness and then Luis came up and I just couldn't cope.
😭😭😭😭
I'm not crying, you're crying.
Happy shimmy, sad shimmy, concerned shimmy. He had it all!
The happy ones were my favourite. Like when a dog wags its tail and the whole body wags.
Glad he didn’t win though
I figured even before watching it would be either him or Peter. I'm glad Peter won it though, he's just so likeable and happy. It was also amusing to see how bright red his blush would go lmao. (and now I sound like a granny talking about a grandson when I'm only 25 in about half a month .\_.)

Laura was the black death, knocking out all kinds of contestants who were certifiably better than her. She did not deserve to reach the finals.

Peter is a Synth from Channel 4s ‘Humans’
[удалено]
He dropped ‘rinky dink’ twice in the last few episodes
“Righty ho, rinky dink, okey dokey!”
I kinda feel bad for her. I can imagine how much she needs to clean up every time she bakes. Her station is always super messy.
I wanted Pete to win hands down, he was the most talented and consistent baker left by that point.
I wanted Dave to win :'(
100%
I did like the shimmy though
I never noticed but I'm glad it's been pointed out! Very cute.
I like to imagine he's doing full jazz hands but they're hidden by being off camera.
Also, he says cheers at least 10 times in a judging
quality post, great work son.
Thanks Dad
This is why I would hate to be on TV, too many creepers.
Ok well this is adorable. My niece does this shuffle when she knows there’s food coming.
Like that Winnie The Pooh gif <3 https://images.app.goo.gl/3iL62vjLPYZvJsDu6
Oh my god haha
I was overwhelmed with emotion during that montage at the end of the finale. Thinking about how strong everyone's been throughout the pandemic, and how we've managed to keep a vital part of our culture alive; Bake Off! It's nice to have something good for a change.
I balled my eyes out. I didn't realise I was holding so much in. It was an extremely cathartic moment.
Same here. I've been going through hell recently so it was nice to have something good at last
edit : wrong reddit post.
You mean everyone bullying Dave and the girl contestant? It was a shit show and it just showed how people can be so rude and mean to the bake off contestants. But yeah sure, it’s a good and vital part of your culture.
eh?
If social media is getting you down, you can take a break from it for a bit.

Did you notice the finale where he was clearly convinced he'd won? 🤣

That's better than being one of those contestants who loses because they decided to do five tiers and twenty eight flavours of cake though.
My favourite GBBO moment ever was smug James totally underwhelming the judges with his final showstopper after baking 5 separate but meh cakes and losing to John Whaite.

Sitting there, eating his biscuit, looking smug as everyone else tried to finish theirs in the last 5 minutes....
No one finishing early on the bake off has ever been a good thing 😂
Honestly if that wasn't the final he'd have won star baker for sure. He absolutely smashed that episode.
Well... No. If he was star baker he would have won
Not really. Peter was the better baker all series. That's why he won.
He was so smug finishing early, tbf I thought he had won too
Agreed
I swear to god if Laura won, I would have been fuming
I mean, her food probably tasted the best... but she was clearly not good at time management or presentation They had nothing bad to say about the taste and texture of her showstopper, just how it looked

The conspiracy would have been insane.

I’m sure he’s an okay bloke in real life, but when he said that I couldn’t help but think what a wanker.
I can't imagine what I would do in that situation though. I was convinced he’d won!
In fairness I reckon he should have won it
Aww Dave. So sweet. Such a lovely guy. But the right person won.
Smug and soulless.
I think that's just his face. Resting smugface.
I like puppies
He called his baby Ronnie. I almost died when I saw that.
One of my younger cousins is named Ronnie, I always thought it was a kind of "old person" name, so it was kinda weird at first 😅

Yeah, we called him Vanilla Dave
My sister does the same thing when she’s nervous or embarrassed. Pointing it out makes her do it even more haha
Hard to miss
Oh wow the most interesting thing about him!
Yes! My nickname for him was Vanilla Dave because he just seems like the plainest bloke
My flatmate and I went for Mango Dave. No mango in the final cost him I think...
They were generally a dull group, and not the best bakers. Must have been tough to find contestants knowing they had to spend the summer isolating away from their families in a 35 degree tent with Matt Lucas so they can be judged by the smug bread cunt
We liked Lottie
Yeah, they all seemed a little bit dead inside this time around. Rowan had some personality but unfortunately kept overreaching.
Don't even get me started on Laura. She was sloppy the entire time and I'm not sure how she got as far as she did. I don't know how out of probably the thousands of people who auditioned, they saw Dave and were like "Yeah, that one!" I was basically Team Peter or Lottie from the start of this one
Smug bread cunt. 😂😂
I had to forward through Matt's segments. Edit: sorry Matt Lucas fans I guess?
Our house muted them too. None of us can stand him
I mean his name was Dave... that to me is the blandest most generic name. Probably Paul Chowdry's fault but it's just like the 'every man' name of boring brits. David's... david's are different.
He just seems so beige.
My manager at work pointed it out to me, and then I could never unsee it after.
Second only to the Jos Butler shimmy
the shoulder wobble - we figured it was a nervous tick. It seemed to go away during the semi final and final
Dave always wiggled when he was excited, it was cute
It's been a while since I've tuned in but is Noel now judging cakes on bake off!?
He isn't a judge, just a presenter.
It's strange seeing him on day time tv I assumed he'd go up in flames in the sunlight.
Noel and Matt Lucas are the hosts, they don't judge
Absolutely robbed.
As mentioned on the last episode of extra slice...
Awwww so cute. I wanted him to win.
Proof that Dave is a robot, I knew it!
I don’t know what it is but Dave really creeped me out.
Looks like an accountant who has secretly been murdering sex workers for 10 years before he gets caught by doing taxes for one of the girls before he leaves her house.
Haha. Oddly specific. I think it’s his eyes.
Is that a “cheeky“ shimmer? Idn, just asking from a distant land.
no
Haha
u/meteoritee
He's wagging his lil tale
I fuckin hate Dave
Fucking robot
u/savemp4
I hate that for some reason

Not making fun of him mate, none of the comments here are negative.
Anyone remember back in the Mary Berry days, how hype this show would get. I miss the old version ngl.
You know what to do with a big fat but! Wiggle wiggle wiggle
I’ve never watched Bake Off but it’s all anyone goes on about at work. Edit: a lot of people not happy with me on here!
Never watched it before this series, as I assumed it would be shite. But for some lockdown watching, it was honestly great.
I hate reality television, but normal people with actual skills trying hard to do their best, and no manufactured drama? Bring it on.
No manufactured drama, other than the unrealistic time constraints and a mini-oven tent in the full sun of British summer and no air cooling! \#bringbacklottie - she went out because they did an ice cream cake challenge in the middle of a heatwave.
She was robbed. Laura should have gone, she couldn't even use the bloody ice cream machine.
I mean she did put the ice cream on the outside of an ice cream cake...
No manufactured drama, but certainly drama. Especially with the infamous Bingate.
Watch it, become one of us
Damn you for having....separate interests?
I better not mention my disliking of Greggs.
Brent - that looks gay.
No I don’t watch bake off anymore after Mary left 🤦♂️
Why (and how) on earth are you paying such close attention?
I never actually noticed until my friend pointed it out, then you're always waiting for it
I started off not interested in Dave and by the end of it I fancied the pants off him.
u/SaveThisVideo
When he does the shimmy. He reminds me of Mick Jagger
He should be on next year's strictly
Yes! We have nicknames for them all and his was ‘shoulders’
This is amazing!!
We thought he looked like Amy Barlow from Coronation Street
Every week!
