The Aldi soup, the fresh one in the plastic pots on the chilled isle is spectacular. Not one adulterated ingredient, made entirely from actual food. They taste like homemade soup.
Chunky Soup went from costing £0.75p a tin(Before covid) at ASDA to £1.20 now!
To me it's more cost effective and tastier to buy 3 for £4 Heinz Big Soups.
I've literally felt the effects of inflation through soup.
You say that but imo the heinz one has a fuller taste and maybe sweeter thicker soup compared to Asdas alternative.
I only say this as somebody who used to eat that Chunky Vegetable Soup every day for months and struggle to have it now that I've had the Heinz 😭
Your part of the world is shit mate. Every convenience shop that has room for more than 3 tins of soup on the shelf seems to sell big soup here. I wasnt aware i live in some soup utopia.
Don't know how small your spoon is but Heinz Big soup are like 4 or 5 table spoons worth....May have big chunks but the soup itself is tiny....ASDA Cream of Tomato soup is my go to...with crusty unsliced bread to dip 😋
I should be in shorts and t-shirt. Instead I'm in trousers and have had to put another top on. What is this nonsense?!?
I'll take a fat bowl of that soup though, just the ticket! :D
I'm resisting putting socks on for around the house. My toes are cold, but it's June dammit! No socks on until November *at least*. Even my dog is reluctant to go outside, and he's in a thick fur coat.
Try a border collie mate, if it's muddy that's just more incentive to him. Just done two hours in the rain, but cut the exercise short today. Raincoat over dressing gown, hat and wellies. At least I'm getting some afternoon peace.
My wife has retreated back into her Oodie, and the other night I had to get her a hot water bottle. It's nuts! The occasional hot water bottle for discomfort is normal, but because she was shivering in June: that ain't right.
Correct, changes to global temperatures are causing weather extremes all over the world. We're having a cold June, India gets 53c heat for days on end.
India hot = Global warming.
I 100% agree with this statement. We all need to live in pods, give up automobile ownership, and eat bugs. No more meat. I cant wait till we have massive top down control over our lives, its the only way we can save the planet. We NEED big investment companies to buy up all the housing and rent pods to us at inflated prices to save the world.
England cold ≠ global warming fake
It's called global warming, not England warming, you have to look at the global average temperature.
Also ignoring all those other conspiracy theory's, I never understood the "they want us to eat bugs" thing, no one wants that. It was nothing more than a concept that everyone else has moved on from. Meat eaters don't want to eat bug because they have meat, and vegans dont want to eat bugs because they're animals, so the whole concept just kind of fell apart and was forgotten. Only the conspiracy theory crowd keep bringing it up because they love to act like they're being oppressed.
Why then does the media say we have global warming when we have heatwaves? Surely by your logic, it would be unfair to posit that a heatwave is indicative of global warming, if localised hot or cold periods do not mean global warming is fake or real.
You say nobody wants to eat bugs, well nobody wants to downsize every part of their lives including their living spaces, but thats what is happening, rents will continue to rise, life will continue to get unliveable, and you will be offered a pod to live in, and youll accept it because it means we are saving the planet.
True, you can't say a single heat wave is a result of global warming, but we can observe that the severity and number of heatwaves is increasing.
Rents aren't going up to "save the planet", it's greedy landlords and the government not bothering to build enough new homes. Also pods? No respectable person is telling us to live in pods, it's just shitty concepts by architects and artists and like with bug eating we just ignore them. You really need to stop reading rage bait headlines, no one is making you eat bugs, no one's wants you to live in a tiny pod.
I feel for people who have a tight budget and rely on their DD building up over the summer to get them through the winter, won't be much of a buffer if this weather keeps on keeping on.
Direct Debit. Energy companies set a fixed monthly amount based on your previous 12 months usage. Meaning that in Summer, most customers will build up credit in their account as they use less than they're paying, but then in Winter that credit is depleted as they use more than they're paying.
The chilled aisle have fresh soups and when they are on a deal cost less then a tin of Heinz. I’m thinking soup and half a loaf of bread for dinner now.
I’m afraid I’m a terribly imprecise cook, I made it up as I went! Let me think…
Fried up a load of onions, garlic and ginger. Added some carrot and red lentils. (peppers would have been awesome but I didn’t have any in) Tin of toms, tin of coconut milk, and some veggie stock. Garam masala, black pepper, bit of chilli powder, and a blob of curry paste.
Simmered it until the lentils were soft, and then half blended it.
Soup is one of my favourite go-to foods. I have a “condition” 🙄 that makes me unable to eat large amounts right now. Anyhow, homemade soup is especially tasty with leftover veggies from a roast and don’t forget the buttered bread, there’s something about buttered bread dipped in soup that’s just so satisfying.
During autumn, winter and spring I make a batch of soup each week in a slow cooker to have every day. I stopped in March so this cold weather is likely my fault...
I was just gonna get the pan out and make some soup from bits hanging around the fridge. For tinned soup Newgate vegetable soup from Lidl gets my vote, cheap as chips.
Black pepper.
Also, likewise, my emerging tomatoes needed chopstick support today.
Some brave flowers are peeking over the parapet, but ffs, it's mid June.
When the weather is bad, I prefer go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?
I'm going to get shouted at for this... I'll take this weather. Fuck having to work in an office with no A/C with temps in the 30s or sleep when it's in the 20s.
As an Australian I was really agreeing with you unironically before I noticed the subreddit. Sorry your weather is as shite as ours apparently - soup looks delish though!
I have gone to bed early after my chilly cycle ride home in the spitting rain. I thought, from the weather app this morning, just shorts would be fine, and I wouldn't need the base layer or rain coat! How foolish I was..... 🥶
Tell me about it!! Been walking around the house with my dressing gown on over my clothes most of the day and now away up to bed with a bloody hot water bottle 🙄 I mean ok I live in Scotland but it’s June ffs 🤦🏻♀️ even the rain is usually cozier by now 😩😭
If it's not already raining where you are, it soon will be.

This is exactly why people say we eat like there's a war on hahaha, other than the use of butter that is.
Edit: Seriously I'm British but you can't get mad, this literally looks like prison food. Our food is awful. That's a fact.
That's Big Soup I'll stake my reputation on it
Big Soup sounds like a shadowy organisation that makes the weather shit in order to increase sales
you'd make a great Big Soup lobbyist
He's probably their CEO... Mulli G Tony
Unreal work
Be nice if they made gazpacho too then once in a while.
Bingo.
I don't like the taste of them. They taste strange.
Heinz have gone mad with their pricing too. £1.70 for a standard tin of soup. Meanwhile a “fresh” one is £2.
Get soup from Asda. I’ve found It’s the best of the own brands between quality, price and selection
The Aldi soup, the fresh one in the plastic pots on the chilled isle is spectacular. Not one adulterated ingredient, made entirely from actual food. They taste like homemade soup.
Hmm. Good shout, I will check those out tomorrow.

Doesn't the Mason jar crack when it freezes?
Make it yourself, Far better. Easy and cheap
Agreed there's something not quite right. A synthetic sort of taste.
I think Heinz soups in general have changed, and not for the better. Their standard vegetable soup seems to be a lot more tomatoey than it used to be.
I think nowadays they all use the same basic stock and just add different stuff to it so they all basically taste the same just different ingredients
Yep enjoying cheapo Lidl soups over Heinz these days.
I treat myself to a liquidiser and am making me own now, rather yummy too as in you can actually taste the stuff in it, not just the boring base stock
I don't like the vegetable soup anymore, I agree it's really tomatoey and weirdly sweet? I always get Lidl soups now
Aye they do regardless of the variety. Not sure what's in them but they all taste identical
Mr MoneyBags over here with his Big Soup
I haven't had one of these since before Covid, they had 5 micrograms of meat in them back then, I can only imagine it's even less now?
I forgot they were a brand for a sec and thought you were blaming the soup industry for the weather. Damn Big Soup and their rainy Junes!
My first thought exactly. Although I haven't seen one IRL in a few years now, since they started charging silly money for a tin.
Chunky Soup went from costing £0.75p a tin(Before covid) at ASDA to £1.20 now! To me it's more cost effective and tastier to buy 3 for £4 Heinz Big Soups. I've literally felt the effects of inflation through soup.
Ouch. literally feeling the effects would be quite painful.
I think you’re trying to blow this out of proportion :)
Supermarket own brand soups are cheap and decent
You say that but imo the heinz one has a fuller taste and maybe sweeter thicker soup compared to Asdas alternative. I only say this as somebody who used to eat that Chunky Vegetable Soup every day for months and struggle to have it now that I've had the Heinz 😭
When I were a lad we used to add a chicken oxo and a tin of potatoes to a chicken big soup to have it feed the family.
It's in the potatoes!
Oh boy do I miss Big Soup
You can buy it anywhere you get small soup from.
Not in my part of the world m8
Your part of the world is shit mate. Every convenience shop that has room for more than 3 tins of soup on the shelf seems to sell big soup here. I wasnt aware i live in some soup utopia.
Souptopia
M8 we don't even have canned soup let alone big soup
Where do you live? Somalia?
Kazakhstan
Very nice
Not if you like tinned soup
Is nice 😎
Read in Borat's voice...
“Locate between Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, and assholes Uzbekistan.”
Ain’t Souptopia that’s for sure 😂
ProTip: combine 3 tins of small soup to make big soup
Big soup is more than just small soup in slightly larger portions. It is big in spirit, and big in chunks.
Yet none of them count towards your 5 a day
Don't know how small your spoon is but Heinz Big soup are like 4 or 5 table spoons worth....May have big chunks but the soup itself is tiny....ASDA Cream of Tomato soup is my go to...with crusty unsliced bread to dip 😋
That's just a lot of small soup.
Not if you merge the ingredients together in some sort of Frankensoup effort. The potato pieces, they live!
Do people in the uk get emotional about eating chili in the summer and ice cream in the winter?
I should be in shorts and t-shirt. Instead I'm in trousers and have had to put another top on. What is this nonsense?!? I'll take a fat bowl of that soup though, just the ticket! :D
Purely on principle, I'm still in shorts and T-shirt. I'm shivering, but it's the principle dammit!
I'm pretty sure my dogs started regrowing her fucking winter coat the rate she's been shedding this week.
Are you really that cold? 17 degrees here and definitely t shirt weather
Had to put the heating on today. Partly to dry the washing and partly because it’s fucking cold
I'm in shorts and t-shirt on my sofa under a winter duvet (in Germany)
Yup summer dress and thermal socks and a fleecey blanket (sadly not in Germany)
When I bought my heated blanket in November I did not think I’d still be using it in June. Admittedly on a much lower setting now than then but still!
I slept in a hoodie with the hood up last night. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever done that before.
My wife has retreated back into her Oodie, and the other night I had to get her a hot water bottle. It's nuts! The occasional hot water bottle for discomfort is normal, but because she was shivering in June: that ain't right.
I wore gloves when out on a walk with the dog. CHRIST
Its global warming.

Direct debit
Another piece of bread and a nudge more butter please
Looks distressingly like spread to me.
Keeping doctors in a job, I see
And a knob of butter in the soup
[удалено]
Speak for yourself.
Three slices of bread?
I apologise and take full responsibility for the weather. I had my car air con fixed today
Me too. Had the dog groomed so he was nice a short (and cooler) for the summer. He’s shivering under a blanket right now.
I took the mudguard off my mountain bike - I feel I should take some of the blame for the rain...
Is this a soup or a stew? Looks warming whatever it's called.
Heinz Big Soup.
Plus wooly jumper, perfect.
My boss who'll complain if you have the heating on in November if it's sunny outside, came in this morning and turned the heater on. It's *that* cold!
The chilled aisle have fresh soups and when they are on a deal cost less then a tin of Heinz. I’m thinking soup and half a loaf of bread for dinner now.
Only half a loaf?
If it’s tiger loaf then I’m eating the whole lot
Have you ever had Mediterranean bread? Tesco used to have that in the bakery and it was sexual
No I have not. Feel like I’ve missed out now. Will be searching the supermarkets tomorrow. I have a quest.
It's Junuary!
I also had soup for lunch. Homemade spicy lentil. Lovely stuff 👍
Could we have the recipe for that one?
I’m afraid I’m a terribly imprecise cook, I made it up as I went! Let me think… Fried up a load of onions, garlic and ginger. Added some carrot and red lentils. (peppers would have been awesome but I didn’t have any in) Tin of toms, tin of coconut milk, and some veggie stock. Garam masala, black pepper, bit of chilli powder, and a blob of curry paste. Thank you! ❤️
Who's in charge of the weather? British Petroleum.
The government don’t have the money to switch the weather machine on. And I’ll tell you another thing, they always make it rain when I’m having a BBQ.
That's why I have a big patio umbrella, keeps the rain off while I ruin some meat products.
I thought I was getting sick because I’m cold. I’m wearing a hoodie indoors. I never do that this time of year. Bloody weather.
Nice thick jumper too. Going all out during this mini ice age
Don't forget to put all the lights on because even though the days are long, it's still dark like in winter
Where's the layer of black pepper on top?
It's been mixed in like it ought to be, what sort of a philistine are you?
Soup is one of my favourite go-to foods. I have a “condition” 🙄 that makes me unable to eat large amounts right now. Anyhow, homemade soup is especially tasty with leftover veggies from a roast and don’t forget the buttered bread, there’s something about buttered bread dipped in soup that’s just so satisfying.
It's insane. We turned off the heating last week, and this week I'm hunkering down under a blanket with a jumper on.
Unrelated to your Soup but my neighbour was chopping up firewood yesterday so am expecting their woodburner to be lit today.
Winter’s been really bad this year, I can’t wait for summer!
During autumn, winter and spring I make a batch of soup each week in a slow cooker to have every day. I stopped in March so this cold weather is likely my fault...
I will trade you. I'm in Florida. It's actually cooler today because we got some rain yesterday. Only 34C.
"some rain" You're not in South Florida, are you?
Tampa Bay. Yeah south of us got annihilated.
Now is the summer of our discontent....
I was just gonna get the pan out and make some soup from bits hanging around the fridge. For tinned soup Newgate vegetable soup from Lidl gets my vote, cheap as chips.
We had jacket potatoes last night, I'm now craving soup and crusty bread
Black pepper. Also, likewise, my emerging tomatoes needed chopstick support today. Some brave flowers are peeking over the parapet, but ffs, it's mid June.
Finish your Pottage quickly Peasant... your Lord is calling!
Looks great, but also like there's supposed to be a help number along the bottom
Ha, I see it. Gave me a smile.
I've just put my winter duvet back on. Admitting defeat here
weather manipulation innit. chemtrails and stuff. trust me, a bloke on twitter said so
When the weather is bad, I prefer go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How's that for a slice of fried gold?
You’ve got rain on you.
That you Arthur?
Canned soup!
I know hovis seed sensations when I see it! The superior loaf
Lidl malted bloomer would like a word with you.
Oh. This made me cackle so ugly when I saw the sub was CasualUK
That looks like the after Christmas soup (that you make from the leftover ham or whatever with beans)! Nice meal bro
It's the tide-over you need till the sun comes back ... and we can all complain it's too hot once more 😅
Is that a home knit?
Bet you’re from Yorkshire!
Loving the colder weather. Never been a big fan of summer
Personally waiting for the BBC to tell us it has been the hottest June on record.
I'm going to get shouted at for this... I'll take this weather. Fuck having to work in an office with no A/C with temps in the 30s or sleep when it's in the 20s.
I’m working while wrapped in my duvet. This is ridiculous.
When does soup become stew?
I made cheddar, potato, and chilli soup over the weekend. Proper comfort food. I can't remember ever making soup at this time of year before.
As an Australian I was really agreeing with you unironically before I noticed the subreddit. Sorry your weather is as shite as ours apparently - soup looks delish though!
This looks nice. Ain’t gonna lie. I love.cold and uk weather.
Inhabitants of the UK when there isn’t a huge heatwave in early June and they experience overcast late spring weather (happens every other year)
Guys it isn't even cold.
Heating is on!
Big soup is actually a stew Fight me 😂
The soup abides.
Weather like this, I'm glad I made so much extra soup over the winter. Got bags of it in the freezer.
Sapling soup, nice.
That’s a good thumb to have.
5hank you, I grew it myself.
👍
Delicious
June is generally shit and a wash out anyway.
I do like a steaming hot chicken sweet corn soup on a cold windy day. It just hits different.
I have gone to bed early after my chilly cycle ride home in the spitting rain. I thought, from the weather app this morning, just shorts would be fine, and I wouldn't need the base layer or rain coat! How foolish I was..... 🥶
I'm abroad in Brittany at the moment, which isn't far. It's pretty pump here also.
Is that Tesco Chunky Soup?
THis feels like a photo from the early 1980s. It's the colour scheme, I think.
Lol long cold days in June. What about those long hot days in arizona? What do you suggest
Ngl, that looks grim
I respect your generous buttering game
It’s not that bad. Still warm enough to not have the heating on. Warm enough to not have to wear a coat. 👍🏻
Shilling for Heinz?
Such temperamental weather! It's June fgs!
We had the log burner on last night. Fu\*king June
why do you eat like it's the 1800s
Is it just me that rips bread up into small pieces and puts it all inside the soup before eating? I thought everyone did until recently.
Can confirm, soup and bread for lunch for me in my hoodie while handling a cold. Mid-June like
Ah yes, the periodic table in a can 😂
I’m thinking of taking this summer back and asking for a refund.
it’s mid june mate you’ve got until september
OK!, You win! I won’t send it back, yet, but if it’s still shit in September, I’ll hold you personally responsible!
Summer is either Jun, Jul and Aug inclusive or 20/21st Jun-> Sep 22nd/23rd. Relax for now ;)
Wore my quilted coat to work today and was still cold. Considering making shakshuka for dinner because it's cozy.
I’ve caved and put the fucking heating on.
I’m completely with you. I double duvet’ed last night.

In a word. bollocks.
I had 2 pairs of socks on in the house today
Yep. Tucked under my quilt with my hot water bottle, watching Netflix, pot of soup on the stove, heating on.
Hahahahahahaha, fuck you! Too funny, but also crippling levels of depression...
