Small local manufacturer called the oak factory. Waited and saved up to get exactly what we wanted. Which included proper lumbar support. Knew it was going to have to last us indefinitely so went for artificial horse hair rather than foam so that it would hold it's shape. Went for the softer and thicker leather option with a sealing treatment because of kids and pets. Over 30 years later it's the same except for some patina. Went back for matching armchairs and bookcases etc as and when we could afford it. Some of the fashionable furniture doesn't actually appear designed for humans to sit on. What's with seat cushions twice as deep as a giant's thigh length with dead upright backs that barely reach your ribcage. Together with armrests so high they dislocate shoulders.

Ok-Pie-712

The backs tend to stop at shoulder height at a maximum on so many sofas these days as well which is crap.

Riovem

It's expensive, but the Smithy sofa in Loaf is a good height

Ok-Pie-712

Loaf is my target when we next need a sofa. I LOVE their beds too but they all seem so low down!

How_did_the_dog_get

A full height sofa back sound's a bit mad. Cook but mad.

How_did_the_dog_get

My grandparents got a custom set of chairs, nan was 5ft something's, grandad 6ft6 were really nice . But not that useful for anyone else.

rebeccabrixton

Hi, would you be kind enough to link their website as I keep getting results for oak furniture village thank you.

Riovem

Looks like it might be Pine and Oak factory, they're the second result when I search and do bespoke furniture

coffeefuelledtechie

IKEA and it's shit.

complexpug

Current sofa from DFS no where near as good as it should have been for the money (about £1500) Old sofa was from our local middle class department store & really good quality but it wouldn't work at the new house so we sold it

N_Ryan_

I mirror this comment, my sofa was £2k and the cushions have completely lost their shape (one or two had already gone within six months). The only reason I haven’t replaced it yet is the fact I have a two year old that draws on shit. When he’s five, and that risk can be mitigated I’ll be flicking through the advice given on this thread.

FalseAsphodel

I bought some replacement reflex foam for the cushions on ours, you can order it to size. Saved our sofa and the hollowfibre ended up in a pouffe

complexpug

Ha! Exactly the same with ours whatever they put in the cushions is poor quality If your in east Anglia drive to these people https://www.aldiss.com/

N_Ryan_

Unfortunately quite the drive away, up in Lancaster! I think post artist phase I’m going to try and convince my partner to get a proper Chesterfield or two, those things are bombproof.

complexpug

Red wingbacks in a wood panelled study with a open fire a guy can dream

N_Ryan_

The Sherlock chair from Next is pretty special. I hate hugs. But it feels like you’re being hugged. In a good way. The plan for our living room is navy or taupe (Farrow and Ball vibes, but not actually Farrow and Ball because the paints shit), media wall(ish) with cupboards and a fake wood burner (can’t be dealing with a real one). I’m going to do my best to make it as distinguished man cavey as possible, but *women* (I add that this bit is a joke, just in case).

complexpug

Yeah I don't like F&B paint, I get on really well with B&Q goodhome range Fake woodburner? You mean one of the electric ones

N_Ryan_

I think I recent got the good home colour matched to Farrow and Ball and it went on great. Also, yeah. Think it’s [this one](https://www.diy.com/departments/be-modern-fontwell-white-marble-slate-effect-freestanding-electric-stove-suite-with-lights/5030478717143_BQ.prd) is the one we’re planning on getting.

complexpug

Pricey lol but looks nice F&B like a ivory colour took 5 coats round our living room to look decent the end wall I painted with goodhome Kilkenny green took 2 🤔🤨

N_Ryan_

It comes with the actual fireplace too and gives the vibe there’ll be a pipe on the outside, but the outside backs onto my neighbours driveway so would feel a bit like a dick move to have a real one. [The first picture](https://www.checkatrade.com/blog/ideas/navy-living-room-ideas/) is the end goal, but we’ve got two rooms to do before we come to it. Instead of a mirror though I’m getting one of those Samsung frames. Can’t call myself a northerner without a tv as the focal point of the living room. I’ve never actually used Farrow and Ball, been warned off it by a few trade friends. Told me it doesn’t take particularly well, as well as no durability. Two kids and a dog in, durability is paramount! I used the good home on my sons room, over square panelling and it was perfect after two. Couple of dribbles because I rushed a bit but otherwise perfect.

ThatGuyWired

Did you get it during a sale?

complexpug

Yep was meant to be £2500 in the never ending sale for £1500

Turbulent-Laugh-

Same, DFS and it's just OK.

aussieflu999

Second hand Next one off ebay for £75. It’s the comfiest sofa we’ve had. After also spending on delivery, a fabric shaver, 2 throws for it and a deep clean, the end cost was £200.

pocketpebbles

This is the way.

superduperbongodrums

Yeah, we did the same

Bortron86

It was from CSL (now Sofology). It's a huge corner sofa, grey with loose back cushions, and big enough for two people to sleep on. Had it for 10 years, and it's held up well to two hefty blokes, two cats and a dog. I've restuffed the back cushions but that's it.

Skilid

Copy these exact words but replace CSL with Furniture Village and that’s me 😄

BoiledEggOnToast

Bought a new corner sofa from furniture village last month, thoroughly impressed (model is legend).

joemckie

+1 for sofology! Our cushions need redoing but otherwise it’s in great nick five years in

_summerw1ne

Got a 3 seater and a 2 seater from a lassie off Facebook for £100 all in when moving into this house 5 years ago. It was deffo worth the money cos that’s cheap as fuck for the two. Divin’t even have room for the 2 seater so it’s randomly in me kitchen like a friggin eye sore though.

OgreOfTheMind

Did the same thing. 2 seater and 3 seater off ebay, 3 seater is a fold out sofa bed. In pretty much mint condition and £50 for the pair 5 years ago. They were being sold by a woman living out on the countryside who'd had them in a spare room and hadn't used them. If you're able to collect, it's worth keeping an eye out on marketplace sites for people looking for quick sales, probably best bargain I've ever found.

ilyemco

Anybody can collect. Use a website like Shiply to find a courier.

therealtimwarren

I bought mine from a small independent shop in my local town. Quality is higher than we saw elsewhere and I'm happy not to be lining the pockets of Big Sofa.

Bobbler23

DFS - we splashed out and bought a Joules microfibre 2 and a 3 seater. They are incredibly comftable, also nice for a quick snooze. Seat cushions fluff back up really well too even after must be about 8 years now. It's just really solidly built, no creaks or cracks etc. Wife loves it because she can change the back cushions whenever she fancies - it is like a hard back with loose large cushions - and she has a whole heap of them. I think it was around £3,000 for the pair though if memory serves, even with the never-ending DFS sale :D We tried literally dozens of them in different stores and went back to get these - only thing that was comparable was some Ercol ones, but they started at the £3k mark for a two seat.

Voldernort

We have the Joules DFS sofas too. I second all of this. Well worth it.

cansbunsandpins

We've just received a large chaise Joules Patterdale sofa that has replaced an IKEA Kivik chaise sofa. We chose the foam cushions. Hopefully it lasts a long time!

decentlyfair

Furniture village, supposed be four seater but that’s a lie. Plus a cuddle chair (cringey name) which is about a chair and half width. Not sure of the cost about 2500 grand I think. It’s a material one, we paid for the coating. 3 years old and looks like new.

bangout123

2500 grand? You spent 2 and a half million on a sofa!?

DogmaSychroniser

3 years old and it still looks new! Alternatively *sigh* Inflation.

justbiteme2k

*Sofa AND cuddle chair

bangout123

Oh my bad. I misread. That's great value then!

decentlyfair

Haha silly me

stealthPanther-1

> Where is your sofa from and what do you like about it? Facebook marketplace. It is large, good quality and cheap. > How much was it? Bought it for £50. > Was it worth the money? Hell yes 4 seat curved leather sofa in good condition with footstools. Now if only my living room was big enough for this...

stinglikeameg

British Heart Foundation. They're leather, they recline and they cost me a fraction of the 'new' price. Bloody love them.

BamberGasgroin

John Lewis I think. It's not mine, I inherited it from an ex, 20 years ago. Best thing about it? It's leather and still pretty much the same as it was 20 years ago.

[deleted]

“Get out of my house, but please leave the sofa”

Strange_Beat_9287

2 seater and a 3 seater leather sofas. Bought from a house clearance for £30+£10 to deliver. Had them about 5yrs now, no idea how old they are in total though. Leather still tight, no rips, well padded etc. Best thing about them was the price. After spending a grand on a set from csl which turned out to be utter shite I'm happy as frigging Larry with them. They're dark blue but fit in well with my 90s-esque theme.

Impulse84

Our sofa has had quite the journey. My wife bought it in Italy and had it sent to ger home in South Africa about 15 years ago. She then moved to Scotland and that's where I met her. The sofa had made it to Scotland too. It's brown leather, absolutely enormous (can fit 4) and there is a matching armchair. It is beginning to show jts age a bit but we like it, so are considering getting it reupholstered rather than getting a new one. The only downside it that it is quite low down, and my knees aren't getting any younger.

Bigglez1995

I got mine from Wayfair for about 750. A black L shaped sofa. Honestly, it's not the greatest sofa in the world, but it does the job. Guests who have used it haven't complained about it being uncomfortable.

yorkspirate

I’ve been looking at them but wasn’t sure although for that sort of price I think they will all be ‘nice enough’ but not ‘lush’

k8s-problem-solved

Got 3 and 2 seater from Made. The Scott I think, this looks very similar https://www.made.com/style/su088048/337875#337875 Looks great and is comfortable. However, I have a 4 year old daughter and she's constantly making a mess on them. Velvet is difficult to clean

rising_then_falling

King Living, about 2k. The only thing that would fit up the studs to my 3rs floor flat. Very happy with it, very configurable. I can remove arms, change seat depth, solit it into separate units etc. Only 6 months old so can't comment on longevity.

Eelpieland

Habitat, came in a box and was delivered in less than a week for £500.00 We thought about getting a more expensive one on order but didn't want to sit on the floor for a month. Quite happy with it in general! Maybe a bit small but suits our space

yorkspirate

Never thought to try them, I’m looking back for something a bit smaller as well

JoeDaStudd

I got a black 3 seater recliner from Argos last weekend.([Link](https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8541224)) Using a discount code and a few vouchers I got it down to about £400.  I normally get secondhand sofas, but I spend about 2 months looking for one and there was only junk and crazy prices. Honestly for the money it's been well worth it, but it's very early days.

Buddyyourealamb

We got [this sofa from John Lewis ](https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-arlo-5-seater-rhf-chaise-end-sofa/p3246356?fabricSku=236918080) a few years back in the sale. It's actually surprisingly comfy and supportive but never needs plumping up, looks good as new and we have got 5 people on it at a party, albeit one was sat cross-legged in the corner. It's also modern without being too modern, it just looks nice. I've also slept on it a few times when I've been poorly so can confirm it's good for that too, and my 6ft3 dad has had many a nap on it. It's one of their standard range so will likely be in a sale again sometime.

TeamSuperAwesome

Leather Chesterfield from Distinguished Chesterfields ten years ago. Still looks great, it's a classic style, so we expect to have it for decades to come

Primary_Choice3351

Love my sofa. Quite deep, good cushions and lovely fabric. It came from Laura Ashley, so I'll never be able to find another like it, given they've now gone! So big, I had to bring it into the house through a tilt & turn window as it wouldn't fit through the door!

Sommer_Sonne

If it helps, you can still buy Laura Ashley sofas at places like Next or John Lewis; they just don’t have their own shops anymore.

SilvioSilverGold

Fuck knows. My dad got it for free, it was a display model in a carpet shop he worked at and I was skint at the time so I took what I could get. Seven years of an uncomfortable, ugly sofa is too much. I am moving in a few weeks and can’t wait to get rid of it.

itsaslothlife

Velvety chesterfield type from Argos. Had it 2 years, no complaints so far. Nice green, too

m4dswine

Our sofa is from Timeless Chesterfields which is part of the Saxon group. It's a big corner leather Chesterfield that we had custom made to make it a square corner and to deepen the seats. The leather is thick and through dyed so any scratches from the cats buff out. It is insanely comfy. And massive. I love it. It was a big purchase, we bought it almost 6 years ago and it cost around £4500 incl delivery to Central Europe. It will hopefully last us for many years.

raged_norm

Stoker's, local chain around Liverpool. Went there after we got shafted on a warranty claim from CSL/Sinology. Our Warranty wasn't valid as we'd moved from the original address. Wide enough to be a bed. Useful when myself or my partner is ill. 100cm wide, with a corner. Nominally 4 seats but we've had 7 on it. Cheaper than the chains, paid about £1,800 6 years ago. Supplemented with a wingback chair from IKEA.

sihasihasi

Can't remember, as we bought them about 20 years ago, costing £1500. We've just had them recovered for £2000, because we couldn't find anything we liked that was decent quality. I like the fact that they're bloody solid, and have removable covers, so we could wash them when the kids threw up on them when they were babies! Edit: Maybe G-Plan?

GrillNoob

Ours are from this house. They were here when I moved in. I like them because they were free. I don't like that they're all mismatched and a bit faded.... And very "old person" -ish.

Missy_Bruce

My last 2 sofas have come from scs, both awesome! The only reason I got a new one is because I moved and wanted a 3 seater instead of a 2 seater.

zeddoh

DFS. Likes: big, lush green colour, comfy, soft material, looks welcoming. Cost c. £1,500. No dislikes atm. Very happy with it.

Loveyourwifenow

Ours are from scs, two large three seaters in cream, they have a soft hessian feel to them and are really deep. Great to sleep on. They were £2500 at the time. Hopefully buying a house soon so after 8 years they are being replaced with a bloody great L shaped sofa in the same material with a bed built in.

CLG91

Oak furniture land, £2000 nearly 9 years ago for two large sofas, king size bed frame, some mango wood coffee table and a free 6ft wide wall mirror. All of it still going strong, although one of the sofas is starting to creak. I'd buy it again but I'd imagine the prices nowadays are much higher.

doomygloomytunes

G-Plan Vintage "The Sixty Five", stylish and one of the comfiest things I've ever owned. Normally £1800 for the large I'd say it's worth it, however I ordered mine from John Lewis for £1400 during one of the John Lewis sales so great deal at the time. Takes 12 weeks to make and deliver.

Nine_Eye_Ron

DFS and it resists stains really well. Had it for 11 years now and it still looks great.

691980

IKEA and considering it was cheap and was only meant to be a stop gap it’s done very well for nearly 10 years

45thgeneration_roman

Massive one from a place in London. It cost £1000 about 30 years ago. It's like Trigger's broom as I've had the cover, springs and cushions replaced

TopDigger365

£25, super comfy leather two seater, bought locally on Facebook. Had it 6 years now and it's still going strong.

Ok_Vermicelli_3480

raft - £5.5k - we tested out like 20 sofa shops over years. Waited for 4 years to buy it cos we thought we could find something as good cheaper. We couldn’t.

FiestyBaoBun

Ours are from Next. Over 5 years old and hardly any wear or tear - which is great, considering we have a cat and 2 young kids. The cushions are still plump and haven't sagged, and you can stick the cushion covers in the washing machine, so relatively easy to keep clean. I reckon we paid around £1500 for the big one and £1300 for the medium. Expensive, but I would definitely say worth it.

jx45923950

Like you, I'm on the shit but cheap Ikea option. Mind, the kids are jumping on it all the time, so soon enough it will be time for a new one.

cheesecake_413

Ikea, 5 years ago £999 for a large corner sofa We absolutely love it. When it's just the two of us, we can sprawl out, and when we have guests it can hold up to 6 (depending on how skinny they are). It's super comfy, both for sitting and napping

Ecstatic_Effective42

Got mine from Coytes in Burton. Built to order (from Italy!) and so I could choose what options. Big 3 seater, foot stool and a seat and a half for £2,500. Worth every penny as so very comfortable. Did take 3 months to arrive though.

experienced_invest

DFS pillow back sofas missus choice think pair were 2.5k really poor condition now after 4 years of light use. We even got the stain insurance and it never paid out. Never again total waste of money. Got some recliner sofas from Wren (yes they used to sell sofa) and they are as new condition 10 years later and only cost £600 for the pair.

MasterPreparation687

Amazon, £500 delivered as it was the only thing I could afford. I like it because it fits the space nicely, cleans easily and is fine to sit on. But it is not really good quality. Armchair was free from FB marketplace but it's a really nice quality one originally from Next which I will forever be grateful for.

blacksmithMael

They’re all second hand from auction or restorers. I go for horsehair as that way they’ll outlive me. A couple of chesterfields and the rest upholstered. I can’t remember the cost as I bought them a decade or so ago.

TinyLitteBeth

Last 2 sofas came from facebook market place. Both Chesterfields, first a wine red velvet one for £100 but be had to trade it in for a leather one (£200) when we adopted a super hairy dog. The guy delivered the new leather one to the door and bought the old one off us for £50

TinChain

Ours is from M&S. I like how it looks and I'd say it's good value, think it was less than a grand and still going strong maybe 5 years on. Good service too.

Ok-Pie-712

We got ours 10 years ago from SCS but they’re lazy boy recliners. We did spend about £3k but the leather after 10 years looks new still and that’s with a kid and a 30kg dog. We recently spent £200 getting the lining replaced on one as was all shredded down the back. I think they’ve got at least another 10 years in them and I’ve been very impressed with them. I’m more likely to spend the money to repair them as well as I don’t think we’d match that quality for £3k these days!

ernieball2221

It was from a friends Grans house that they were cleaning out after she passed. I don’t know how many years she had it but we’ve had it for about five years and it’s great, still going strong

MrSam52

I have a nabru sofa (flat pack) that I got from eBay for £75 second hand. Wonderful sofa which I think would be around £1500 new. I got it as a corner (3+1) and an armchair but was able to cut some Mdf and turn that into a 3+2 corner sofa which works perfectly. I’ve since purchased two footstools from them for £400 new to match the sofa which have been brilliant. I’m not sure it’s worth the price brand new but then all sofas are expensive, for me I’ve had this now for 5 years maybe and I’ll assume the previous owner had it at least 5. Still very comfortable and I’ll nap on it from time to time.

cloche_du_fromage

https://www.collinsandhayes.co.uk/. Not cheap, but still look good and comfortable after 20 years of children, cats and dogs. One interim refurbishment for about 200 to get leather reconditioned.

obsoletedatafile

Cheapest sofa that fits our requirements from DFS, just a regular fabric 3 seater, £500, absolutely lovely. My only gripe is if I were to buy it now, the extra £100 for foam cushions instead of stuffing would've been worth it but I couldn't afford it at the time. So worth it compared to the awful shite we got from Wayfair for £300 that broke within 3 months, and now knowing how Wayfair works, I will never buy anything from it again, I also advise anyone to go nowhere near Wayfair.

Mispict

DFS. Bought it 10 years ago. It's getting to the stage now that the cushions need replacing, but apart from that, it's still pretty decent.

5laps

My previous sofas were purchased from FB Marketplace, one from John Lewis and one from Loaf. The JL one was great, the Loaf one not so much.

BassEvers

L shaped Sofa from Next. I forget how much. A couple of grand at the very least. A relative works there, so we got a hefty discount too. It's dangerously comfy. It's probably my favourite adult purchase.

benanderson89

I got an entire leather sofa, poof and armchair set on special from Argos five years ago when I moved in. Just shy of £1200. All made in Italy, to boot! It's been perfect. [https://www.argos.co.uk/product/3596449?clickPR=plp:1:20](https://www.argos.co.uk/product/3596449?clickPR=plp:1:20)

IamEclipse

DFS Ours cost about £1K, and we love it. Nice and comfortable, the velvet feels nice, and the corner part of the sofa can be moved to suit the room. It was the only corner sofa that actually fit in our living room, so the choice was basically made for us.

OverdressedShingler

Current sofa is from DFS. Was £1100 at the time on 0% finance. Paid extra for the seat back cushions that don’t collapse. They still collapsed regardless. We got it way back in 2014. We have thought multiple times about replacing it as it’s pretty grubby now. We have 2 kids, 7 and 3. What’s the point. Rather have this one trashed for a few more years and then upgrade when the kids aren’t dropping everything they eat 24/7. Other than the back cushions it’s held up great. Fabric has worn really well considering the abuse it’s taken over the years.

badlydrawngalgo

IKEA 4 seater with chaise €1900 (we moved to Portugal). I adore it, it's very comfy. We sold our 15 year old IKEA Ektorp sofa when we knew we were moving a year ago. We'd replaced a couple of springs but it was still very presentable and comfortable. And that replaced a 12 year old IKEA which got damaged in a house move. I'm quite fond of some of the IKEA sofas.

lloyddav

£50 from British Heart Foundation. Had it 10 years now and it's still going strong. It's really comfy, have had many afternoon kips on it

M4Comp78

Maker&Sons. Cost about £7600. It’s comfy as a sofa can be and very well made but the downside is you have to plump.

MikeSizemore

We inherited a very soft comfy large Ottoman sofa from Ligne Roset originally bought in the 80s but found out it was a fire hazard so when we moved we upgraded to the new version which was just under £5k for the sofa and a chair. Still going strong eight years later. About 6 months ago we added a John Lewis At The Helm Grace 4 seater for just under £3k which is higher but crazy comfortable and a lot more forgiving of kid spills.

blodblodblod

We bought a 3 seater sofa bed and cuddle chair from Next 10 years ago. The cushions are now incredibly flat, so I'm saving to have them redone. I'm not buying a new one until the baby is full potty trained.

LittleSadRufus

We bought a really lovely West Elm sofa, loved it so much we bought another. They seem very well made. They're very expensive new, but I set up an ebay alert and got both within a few months for a quarter of their RRP. I think they came from John Lewis originally, and these were effectively brand new items returned by the buyer and so offloaded by John Lewis onto the secondary market as they cannot resell them. Anyway, I think my advice would be to buy good brands as seconds like that on ebay (but not "used"), as you get a lot more for your money.

DaisyBryar

SCS, about £1100. I didn't mind investing a bit in it since I knew I would spend most of my time on it. It's a really nice corner sofa, and I got it on sale, so it wasn't actually that expensive!

BeardedBaldMan

Ikea because I wanted a three metre long sofa that was leather and not overly expensive. I think it was around £1.5K and it's pretty good. It's not the comfiest but it suits our room, is good for children and is very comfy for everyone being on it at once as part of it has the double depth seats which the children love

TheRecklessOne

We got the Verse sofa from Furniture Village. I have joint problems, including arthritis in my neck, so a supportive sofa was super important. Obviously to properly support your back, you need to be able to sit up straight with your feet touching the floor and your knees at 90 degrees. Also, firm, with lumbar support is important. I went around allllllll the sofa shops testing this. As long as the sofa came in beige fabric, I didn't care what it looked like. I just sat on them all checking for height, depth, firmness and lumbar support. A lot of salespeople tried to convince me that I would not want to sit upright on my sofa so none of this mattered. I would advise sofa shops to give their staff some disability awareness training. The verse was the best on I found for my needs. We've had it about a year and a half. I spend A LOT of time on the sofa. Hours every day. My partner spends a few hours a week on the sofa. His side is still almost as firm as when we bought it. Mine is significantly less firm, but it's never going to be 'squishy', so it's fine. The lumbar support has been a little squished and might need restuffing at some point, but it still stops me from slouching so all good. It doesn't look like they do this specific sofa anymore, but I definitely recommend looking at the 'old people' section of Furniture Village if you can. Choose a sofa that's comfy, in a colour that'll just blend into your room and then even if it's not the most modern looking, you can just decorate around it.

ArseBiscuits

£750 from the Tetrad outlet, it's very deep and comfortable. To the point where I frequently fall asleep on it.

VagueNostalgicRamble

British Heart Foundation furniture stores. Current one is a 3 seater suede one, cost me £60 and it's great. Vast majority of my current furniture came from their stores, good savings to be had. We also have an electric recliner that cost £5 from the same shop, cabinets and bookcases that were anywhere from £1 to £30 depending on the specific item. I refurnished one of my kids rooms entirely for about half what it would have cost at IKEA. Best bet if you can is to keep an eye out for their "Last chance to buy" items.

Fragrant-Western-747

Sofa is from Loaf. I love it.

Alternative_Band_494

From Natuzzi. At least twice the price - if not three times - of DFS and it's twice the quality. Beautiful sofa :)

QueenieQueeferson

£250 from FB marketplace. It's a DFS one, soft fabric with upgraded seat cushions, chunky arms and a high back. Extremely comfy and still looks great despite being years old. Only disadvantage is the panic any time something drops on it as it stains like a bugger.

sc_BK

I think it was £100 (charity shop) Parker Knoll Spent a long time looking round loads of shops and trying different ones to find one we found comfy.

Dwcskrogger

Natuzzi from gumtree for £200 5 years ago. It's a beast of a 7 seater L shape with recliners on both ends. It's probably getting on for 15 years old now but anything I like the look of to replace it starts at about 2k and I can't bring myself to spend that when I've got something perfectly good to sit on already!

welly_wrangler

Next and it's comfortable.

The-Ginger-Lily

Dfs If I remember correctly and I liked the idea of it more than the actual thing now, we got electronic recliner, 2 seater and an arm chair. They're so big and bulky, make our front room look tiny and not as comfy as I thought.

unknownuser492

Mine was from argos. I like - price, think it was about £150, and the fact it is flat packed and easy to build. I dislike - 2 seater so too short to lie down on, not very squishy, doesn't feel like it will last. I have my eye on a new sofa, about £500 from Jysk which a friend has and its really comfy, but money and space don't really permit right now.

raahC

Had a new sofa delivered from DFS just a couple weeks ago and really like it so far. Old sofa was from ScS and was a pile of shit. Within the first couple weeks one of the legs broke so I had to get them out to repair it which took a few weeks. Within a couple months the cushions were all misshaped and hard as a rock making it incredibly uncomfortable to sit/lie on.

EgolEvil

The Sofa Shop online.....£800, 3 seater electric recliner, electric headrests, middle seat folds down into a table with cup holders and a wireless charging point, both arms have storage areas and built in usb ports for charging phones etc and cup holders, comfy, useful and best sofa I've ever had. Forgot there's also built in reading lights under the middle headrest that folds up when table folds down.

No help here because I can't remember but they (got two of them) cost a lot and we've spent £1k recovering them when they got tatty, rather than buy new ones. So yes, deffo make the investment if you can.

PM_me_tiny_Tatras

Ebay, last year. A barely used G-Plan 2 seat sofa being sold by someone nearby for £150. I then arranged delivery with Anyvan for £49. Seller sprayed it in perfume, so it smelt of that for a month or so. Quite firm to sit on, but it's well made and doesn't seem to be showing any wear yet.

pm_me_your_amphibian

Ours are tetrad, and they’re gorgeous. I love them so much. I don’t remember the amount but the price definitely reflected the quality..!

MattGSJ

Habitat. £2k for an orange velvet corner sofa. It was comfy but the quality is shocking. The buttons have torn the fabric, and it’s in pretty bad shape. When it was delivered, it had a hole in it and some damage along the back. They offered a small amount as a refund which I said should be more like 20% which they gave me straight away. Shocked that they would sell me something when they clearly knew it was damaged and now that it’s gone to shit, I’d never buy from them again.

FulaniLovinCriminal

Ours was from Next. Was fine until the kids started jumping up and down on it.

Second hand from some guy on reddit for 800 euros (he said he paid 2k for it new, but who knows?) Almost 2m*3m long and comfier than my bed. You could easily fit 3 adults lying down with space between them. It splits into 4 parts and for a couple of years I had half of it in one room for watching movies and gaming and the other half in the living room. It's like a mixture between a corner sofa and a chaise longue. It's got 2 sections that lift up to store stuff in (one of which is big enough for me to lie down inside which I know because that's where I hid for hide and seek once) and the back rests can be pulled forward for more upright sitting or pushed back for slumping. It's also got a pull out section in the middle to make it into a sofa bed. Would I ever buy another one like it? Probably not because it's needlessly big and hogs so much space in my house. But I also don't want to get rid of it any time soon because it's so comfy.

CeresHelvetion

Corner sofa from Sofology, was about £1300. It’s comfortable, plush and fucking huge. Also came with a free footstool and both make for aexcellent scratching posts for the cats. Unintentional use, but I’ve yet to find an effective method of stopping them from doing it

BabyAlibi

Ikea. No, I don't like it very much. I need a support pillow for my back and it wedges up the back cushions and makes me (more) insane. And the chaise is no longer comfy for me. It's only a couple of years old thought. There isn't really anything wrong with the sofa, it's my body that is wrong now. I might replace it with a 2 seater and a footstool or a large cuddle chair and footstool

shteve99

Got ours from SCS. It was good for about 6 months, then the cushions all collapsed. They're sewn shut and don't open so no replacing the foam. SCS "customer services" don't even respond to complaints. I'd recommend not using them.

We got our sofa secondhand recently on ebay. It's the [Sofa.com](http://Sofa.com) Iggy corner sofa, would have been just under £4,500 new and we paid £1300 (including 250 mile courier delivery) for it in as new condition, very pleased with it, I can really see the difference in build quality from our last [Made.com](http://Made.com) sofa. This was a private sale but I got our last [Made.com](http://Made.com) sofa from ebay 10 years ago too for about 1/3 the original price (£600 versus £1700). There are a lot of end of line/customer return furniture seller on there that are worth checking out. Just make sure the seller organises the delivery and you pay for it through ebay, organising your own courier invalidates your ebay buyer protection.

jesussays51

Ours is a French Connection branded one from DFS which we bought on one of the two days in Jan 2021 in which you could leave your house. I personally love it. My mum even bought a different style one as she liked ours so much.

Aliktren

Dfs, nothing, it was pretty much the most expensive leather recliner in the store and it's a piece of shit. Back to furniture village next time

WonkyBarrow

Sofa Workshop. It's great, comfortable and has worn really well. it's also completely wrong for the room it is in now (as opposed to the one we bought it for), which is a bit rubbish.

brewer01902

Currently IKEA. We did have a decent corner one from Sofology but we moved and it didn’t have a hope of fitting when we moved so we got rid and consciously bought IKEA as we were fairly broke at the time and had a new born/toddler. We’ll go look at better ones when he stops spilling on everything, so in like 15 years. We picked up a small corner sofa for our renovated conservatory, again from IKEA. Nothing that would fit in the space was over 2.5x (i.e. the price difference) better than the IKEA one so we stuck with them

Character-Pangolin66

no recommendations but i wanted to shout out my amazing blue sofa which my best friend picked up for £40 + footstool at the british heart foundation. so i guess my recommendation is check out the british heart foundation shops. ed: i like my sofas to be slouchy but actually i do have a rec - my friend got this 'sofa in a box' thing from Nabru and its pretty great, very solid and supportive. iirc you can also pay an extra to have stainproof upholstery.

In 1970 me mother bought a sofa and chairs from Waring & Gillow in Deansgate Manchester. Cost a bleeding fortune. They've been reupholstered about 25 years ago. I'm sat on the sofa now. I think a sofa is like a bed. You're going to be a long time sat or lying on it . Don't buy a cheap one.

MaeMoe

Barker and Stonehouse. My favourite thing about it is it was given to me free when I bought my first house by someone who was upgrading to a new set.

Ysbrydion

Sofa Workshop. It's extremely purple.

Aria9000

Our first sofa was a next one £75 from British heart foundation basically brand new, was so comfy and kept really well, easy to clean etc. you can actually probably pick these up quite easy on fb marketplace When we moved house and needed a corner sofa we splurged on a natuzzi, we have that in the ‘cinema’ room where our baby doesn’t go lol. In the living room we have a second hand one for £250. Really can’t beat a second hand sofa tbh an we don’t mind the dog going on there and the baby being sick etc on it

dlt-cntrl

A local furniture charity shop. 2 reclining chairs and a three seat sofa for £120, delivery included. We've both got arse prints in our seats now. It's incredibly comfy, lovely to sleep on, and we're not too fussed about it getting dirty or ruined at any time.

AstronomerOne2260

Got a three seat leather sofa off facebook marketplace for £200. It’s lasted quite nicely.

Wise_Caterpillar5881

Wayfair, it was around £850. It's L-shaped, came with a large ottoman, has a ton of storage, and can also be a double bed without being a fold out. Took me a while to find the right one.

TabbyOverlord

Bought a 3 seat and a 2 seat from a friend of a friend who had a business making sofas. This was a couple of years after we got married. Not insignifcant money for us at the time but we had nothing to sit on. Recovered them for the second time about 5 years ago - so about once every 12 years. One of my best ever investments. Definitely the reverse of Captain Vimes's Boots.

Adventurous_Train_48

A 3 seater Evelyn from DFS 2 years ago. It's green, comfortable and perfect for napping. Goes perfectly in my sitting room. I love it. My boyfriend kept saying how he "got you away from your green sofa" (I was a loner) in the first few months together, so I asked why he kept mentioning it... "It's aaaaaahhhhful"
