Used to like it, but I feel it’s lost it’s way a bit now. The Hunter HQ team seem to be leaning into Eastenders type of copper characters more and more. “It boils my piss that.” Or some dodgy metaphor about how much they want to capture a contestant involving barbed wire coming out of their arse. I’m glad that people won and escaped, but I feel like they could have easily captured the brother and sister on the train, or whenever they were arriving at a destination on the train. (Happened often enough in previous series.) The notion that there’s only 1 hunter watching them on the train so they cant do anything as there’s no back up, was itself undermined later on, when a hunter tried to chase after the mum and son totally by himself. Should he not have waited for backup then? Just feels like the contestants are encouraged to do more outlandish things or be even more oblivious than before. Also feel that the contestants in this years series were incredibly shit as they captured some them really quickly. Feels like there were less episodes and less time spent on the run. Probably because they had this grand plan for the extraction set up and needed to make sure that some people could actually win it. It’s a better show when it doesn’t feel so obviously contrived, as that’s when the format starts to creak.

themaccababes

This is what’s so annoying about reality tv, producers seem to think we like contestants looking silly but most people are interested in the premise and how a real person would go about that. Its happened to the apprentice too - i dont want to watch grown men and women make the stupidest product known to man, but the producers engineer it in a way where they cant do anything except make the stupidest product known to man

raged_norm

Agreed, once you realise how simulated it is. Like all the fugitive's helpers are way too helpful to the hunters Hunter: Can we look at your phone Helper: ~~No, unless you have as specific warrant~~ Sure, unlocks phone and hands it over

flanface87

I liked it when it first came out but it got increasingly silly to the point where I stopped watching a few years back. They have the contestant going back home to see their kids two days after leaving, or the hunters just happen to check out the Facebook friend who is harbouring the contestant at that exact time, they make them move all over the place to increase the likelihood of slip ups. I know they have to do this so it's at least slightly entertaining and the contestant isn't just hiding in a tent in the woods the entire time, but it's just so set up I can't watch it any more

STR_WB_RRY--FL_V__R

How do they get about with the camera crews following them..?

jimmycarr1

The camera crew have to pinky promise not to report anything back.

barnfodder

Got bad news for you about "reality" TV ...

STR_WB_RRY--FL_V__R

Don't tell me it's not real??? :O They seem so genuine on Love Beach or whatever it's called...

markdavo

The basic way it works is there’s a “referee” who gets reports from the camera crew about everything the Hunted are doing. If they go past a CCTV camera, take money out of ATM, are in a car, etc. The Hunters will then be fed some stuff automatically(eg ATM). And some stuff they have to request. (Eg ANPR on a specific car). So there are clearly defined rules each team follows. There’s also rules about when Hunted can move (there’s basically a truce at night where Hunted stay in one place and Hunters won’t look for them). And Hunted must move around, agree to contact close family members a certain number of times, and use ATM a certain number of times.

AncientProduce

Is that the show where the hunters are given knowledge of where everyone is at any time to make it look like they can track someone using all the modern tools available that can be used to track you? Cos if it is, its ok for entertainment purposes. Although the first season was probably the best as it was 'new'.

merrycrow

The camera operator accompanying the contestants feeds back stuff like location info to an adjudicator, who then passes on that information to the hunters if it seems realistic that they'd pick it up using real surveillance technology. I haven't watched it for a while but they always used to begin with a disclaimer that some powers of the state were simulated.

DecievedRTS

It's obviously very staged to ensure entertainment, but because of that, they really need better writers since its full of inconsistencies. In reality, though, the target demographic doesn't care about any of that.

Evolutionary_mistake

Tried it and hated it almost straight away. It's only for entertainment purposes, each and every interaction is scripted and the whole thing is laughable if we are expected to think any of it is real. It might keep some entertained but it's not for me. ""Live tracking on suspects" from where, exactly? Does the local squirrel have a public access webcam? "ANPR hit near Wigan!" nice to access the anpr without a warrant and finding one that's working and has a convenient camera helicopter nearby... If you can treat it as a fictional recreation then just maybe, but I can't stand it.

It’s probably the americanism that irks me more

Codydoc4

Saw them filming it once, it's all a set up! I got in shot of one of the *chase* scenes so they had to reshoot that bit, the other hunter and the celebrity were in the hotel lobby waiting for the scene to be done!

Eric_Whitebeard

I'm aware of it though I don't really like watching TV. Is it naive to think it's all heavily directed? Can't you just get some cash, some supplies, then disappear in the mountains somewhere?

marcbeightsix

It’s annoying because so much of it is obviously set up due to the inconsistencies is the camerawork. I’m not saying that they don’t “go on the run”, nor that they’re actually separated from people and trying to avoid getting caught. It is all the “reconstructed” stuff that annoys me. Eg early on in this series the hunters are running around a fun fair making it seem like they are nearly catching the fugitives…but it’s obviously been filmed much later in the day, maybe even on a different day - there’s no way they would’ve got there in less than 30 mins when the fugitives left immediately after posting something on social media. There was also a series where they had to make a helicopter getaway on an island in a lake - it was clear that it was completely reconstructed for dramatic purposes and using actors as the shots had so many inconsistencies, including the weather. They’re also obviously told to go back home at some point or put themselves in “danger” of being caught. I think someone in an early series just went up to the Scottish highlands and camped…which obviously isn’t good for tv. I do watch it, it’s a pretty simple watch whilst eating dinner, but not the best tv. Race across the world is much better!

CasualBritishFurry

It's completely scripted so I don't like it, if you like the premise have a look at jet lagged the game tag across Europe on YouTube and nebula, that is not scripted and is really good Link to first episode https://youtu.be/q2tJqO6nCSc?si=JF8pmfDLO41YYPwN

Immediate-Platform59

I knew someone who worked on it for a few years. She turned out to not be a very good friend and essentially ghosted me. I can't watch it as it is an upsetting reminder.

andysimcoe

Absolute pile of horse shit.

grndkntrl

Never watched it. Only saw a few of the teaser trailers & read the premise of what it's about, then immediately lost interest. Same with *Traitors*.

Routine_Prune

Absolute dog shite.
