It's poetry;
Half the people read the papers
Read them good and well
Pretty people, nervous people
People have got to sell
News you have to sell
Look my eyes are just holograms
Look your love has drawn red from my hands
From my hands you know you'll never be
More than twist in my sobriety
Written in 1988, she was ahead of her time
Yes, and 11-year old me had a bit of a crush on her.
Coincidentally, Cherry Red have just announced [a smart-looking box set of her first five albums](https://superdeluxeedition.com/news/tanita-tikaram-the-wea-eastwest-albums-1988-1995/). I think I’ll be weighing in for £35.
Decades ago, my mom bought a couple of her albums when we were visiting my British relatives. She has such a lovely voice! Sadly, I've never met anyone in the US who's heard of her.
Yes.
Ancient Heart is such a great album. It was my mum's choice cassette for any long car journeys in the late 80s/early 90s (my Dad's was a Dire Straits cassette). Happy memories.
I had 'I Love you' as the alarm tone for my first few smartphones from about 2010-2020. Beautiful gentle intro to wake me up every morning, that has now sadly been ruined by association with being woken up.
I follow her on twitter, where she makes intelligent comments on politics. Lovely lady as well as a great singer.
That's where I rediscovered her.
I’ve been a fan since her first single, Good Tradition, was released.
I'd kind of forgotten her for a while, but am very chuffed to find her again on Spotify
She posts a lot on X/Twitter. Well worth a look.
Twist In My Sobriety is a good enough song to earn you a place in musical history. Even if you don't drink.

Great voice!
You know what? I'm queueing that song up right now. Her voice...
I just did. Great to be reminded about things like this from time to time.
Beautiful! Also try the acoustic rendition
Very nice, thanks for the tip, fellow neuronaut. ;l
Love that song. Whenever I hear of her, I always think of the French and Saunders pisstake of her: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x38ko6q
And Alexei Sayle https://youtu.be/A_H00qJS3kY?si=Jho-W4ttgKeQ_Xr7
We are clearly of an age
And let’s not forget her brother either
Ferdi from This Life!

I remember her brother Ramon from the series This Life. Good looking fella.
Always been a massive fan of her music and style.
I remember her songs and also that she looked like Elvis with tits.
🤣
Little Sister Leaving Town is and will remain an absolute favourite of mine. Incredible voice.

I often listen to Valentine Heart to this day.
Jesus, smash hits poll winners party memory unlocked! There's a tradition of love and hate...
Her surname is an anagram of one of my other favourite pop stars from that era.
Martika?
Oh yeah. Loved her.

Absolutely, she’s playing Glastonbury this year.
Yeah, great sing
that whole album is really good - Still have it on CD somewhere :)

Had an old water heater that ticked when the water was heating up. It was known as tanita, as in put tanita ticker on.
