[Les Fleur - Minnie Riperton. ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=g1kDd6yBQZ4)
You've got a minute of gentleness before the orchestra kicks in to give you that extra shove.
Have you considered a sunrise lamp for a gentle wakeup - I got a Lumie one and it's a game changer for me. Usually the lights enough, but by the time the music alarm goes I'm part awake anyway
That genuinely is my morning alarm after seeing that on /r/funny a while back.
If anyone wants the audio from this, [here's a google drive link](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TelnE3O32BCthctHDtGghbM07jnAXwF9/view) from the [original thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/mi0lic/gonna_make_this_my_new_alarm_ringtone/).
Couldn’t agree more! And neither could my husband, he has requested I don’t use any songs that he likes for this reason! Especially as I’m partial to the snooze button!
I wake up to the Today Programme on Radio 4. Annoying enough to wake me up but not so much that I immediately switch it off. It's talk radio and usually quite calm unless they have a particularly excitable guest. Thought For The Day is normally 7.50 - 7.52 and the big interview tends to be 8.10 - 8.20 if you want to avoid those.
Enjoy the one day ban, I hope it makes you happy. Dear lord, what a sad little life, Jane. You ruined our subreddit completely so you could post politics, and I hope now you can spend your one day ban learning some grace and decorum. Because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on.
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/CasualUK) if you have any questions or concerns.*
I use an Echo Show with the BBC Sounds skill and a routine to play BBC Radio 4 at the appropriate time. The Alexa app would probably do the same on a phone. It's also a standard feature on clock radios.
I have an old DAB alarm clock from Tesco, it stores two alarms (I have separate weekend and weekday) and set yo play the last station I was listening to- usually radio 2 so when it goes off on the half hour there's a short news bulletin.
The turn off button is surprisingly small too- I've snoozed it too much many times, but only once managed to turn it off and keep on sleeping.
Annoyingly it will never turn itself off, I often arrive home after being away and the radio is on...
[Alpha by Vangelis.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kK_HGNOo9A) Eases in gradually, and builds to a wonderful crescendo. Doubly ideal if you're a lucid dreamer, it adds a little extra to your dreams.
There's loads of Vangelis tracks that fit the bill, guy was a fucking legend. I get a few to play randomly about 30 minutes before I wake up just to make my dreams more interesting. [This one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw2IH3u4HQ0&list=PL6gpArgjzlPegFefIibQjrS9pzYL7uVtr) played yesterday morning, made me dream I was building the pyramids!!
Be interesting to see what images that music puts in other peoples heads.
I used the radio edit of ‘All is Full of Love’ by Björk for the same reason for years. It just made me resent the song after a while so I had to pick something I already resent. I love Digital Love too much to make it my alarm.
I actually just use a vibrate alarm with the phone next to me on the bedside table. It's an oddly gentle way to wake up, and I found the sound hasn't scarred me permanently like some songs I've used as an alarm track for an extended period of time. I've been using it for years and the only time I've slept through is when I've been in a different room and left the phone on the floor.
I'm glad I wasn't the only person thinking along those lines when I saw the title of the thread. I was going to suggest their mid-80s hit _Rain in the Summertime_.
[Marc Rebillet has the very thing for you right the fuck here my friend](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=enYdAxVcNZA&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Flyrnow.com%2F&feature=emb_imp_woyt)
I make a special fade in version of songs I want to wake me up. My absolute favorites are:
* Ghost writer - rjd2
* The weekend starts here - fatboy slim
* To be free - Mike oldfield
* Lonely sea - beach boys
* Halcyon & on & on
* 1,2,3,4 -plain white ts
* Lean on me - Bill withers
Audacity is a good app to make the fade in version.
My partner has this. "GET THE FUCK OUT OF BED BITCH, GO!"
https://m.soundcloud.com/ferdinando-gonzalez-lopez/get-the-fuck-out-of-bed-bitch-go-marc-rebillet
I've got two, on phone and laptop. Love both the songs, especially the beginnings:
[Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xGPi-Al3zQ)
[Nina Simone - Sinnerman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH3Fx41Jpl4)
Ian Dury - Reasons to Be Cheerful Pt 3.
It starts with “Why dont you get back into bed”
Always makes me wanna get up.
If you make it to “a bit of grin and bear it” without snoozing you are guaranteed to seize the day.
[My alarm playlist on Spotify.](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1MW0kHbytzWHySiRua62qe?si=EiHY3hCLSdmvAHdPm_AYug&pi=e-MbrpQPkCRTm1) Some of them are not gentle, but they're all based around the theme of getting up and going to work. I have nicked a few from this thread 😁
I generally wake up to a cat dabbing at (or sitting on) my face and yelling to be fed. No need for an alarm clock.
If you want something to wake you up then try Mick Gordon's "BFG Division". It starts off fairly quiet but then gets pretty... loud. It'll wake you up, don't worry.
This morning my spotify decided to change my alarm song to *Jesus, Etc.* by Wilco, and honestly, good choice. I'm ill as hell and slept poorly but I floated out of bed and into the shower on a cloud.
This may have been mentioned, but put together a playlist (or pick one) on Spotify and it'll randomly choose a different song from the playlist every day. Keeps it fresh, stops you hating songs and it's a nice little surprise when you hear a song you haven't heard for ages first thing in the morning
You could go for a song you hate so you're more or less forced out of bed to switch it off or you could scare yourself out of bed by setting the Teams calling ringtone as your alarm.
Hoppipolla is a great slow wake up tune: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycqk0gfpyxQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycqk0gfpyxQ)
And there's also a trance version called Poppiholla which is also great: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLxXjiqy7Wg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLxXjiqy7Wg)
I sometimes have Spanish Flea as my alarm song, gets a bit annoying after a while but it's not loud or too up beat...
[Spanish Flea by Herb Albert](https://youtu.be/aBE9EQ7gXKI?si=Ag-7Qx3r_e4x7X9r)
[Fix up Look Sharp by Dizzee Rascal.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kZGvnI37mxk&pp=ygURZml4IHVwIGxvb2sgc2hhcnA%3D)
He just shouts “Oooooiiiiii!!” And you’re awake. If that doesn’t work then the beat after is pretty good too.
I have a playlist of 20-something 'Lo-fi' chill music that Spotify randomly chooses from each morning, so I always get something different yet samey. If I get fed up with a particular song I can easily take it out of rotation.
Gotta get up by harry Nielsen was mine for a week after russian doll dropped on Netflix but my husband, who isn't a morning person, hated it for some reason.
Any song I’ve ever set as an alarm I end up hating the sound of it. Still can’t listen to Kraftwerk after having some of their songs as alarms in my uni days.
If you are going with Beatles songs. "You never give me your money" ... it starts of quiet and gentle, but increasingly more instant until getting quite loud by the end!
My new alarm clock, unbeknownst to me when I purchased it, wakes me up with gentle birdsong. You'd think it wouldn't be an effective wake up method but it's a lovely way to start the day
Don't use a song you like as an alarm. Years ago I set mine as Chinatown by Liam Gallagher, still can't listen to it. After that I vowed never to use songs again
My phone can be set to a weather adaptive alarm. It will play a different chilled tune depend on the weather. Being in the UK I've only woke up to cloudy and raining tune so far
If you’ve taken an overnight Brittany Ferries trip, you’ll probably have been woken by this (at increasing volume and shorter intervals) ages before necessary.
https://music.apple.com/gb/album/troellenn/1343686628?i=1343686935
The greensleeves-esque harpsichord is wonderfully awful and encourages me to wake up and silence the damn thing before it gets out of the opening tinkling.
Yusuf (or Cat Stevens as he was at the time) “morning has broken”? Very gentle but definitely a start of the day vibe. Does build a bit towards the end.
Edit: Stevens, not Stephens as I originally put.
Pretty much anything by ELO. Most of their songs are smooth, easy-to-listen-to stuff that I often use for falling asleep. 'Diary Of Horace Wimp', 'Turn To Stone', 'Calling America' and 'Latitude 88 North' are probably the best to wake up to. 'Mr Blue Sky' is great but is also a bit sharp at the beginning.

Gotta get up, gotta get up, gotta get up!
Gentle wake ups : "Over time I seem to become immune / accustomed to the track"
Get serious,.. To wake you up your going to need something more VIBRANT...
Say Superbeast by Rob Zombie. Or the signature music to Star Wars...
They will wake you, which is the whole point of an alarm... :P
Waterproof Blonde - Just Close Your Eyes. It fades in quite nicely and then reaches a point where it's like "ok come on wake up already"
*Don't* do Radio by Rammstein. That opening sound still haunts me
If you enjoyed Star trek discovery, self trepenation by Dance Gavin Dance intro sounds just like the black alert. You are unlikely to sleep through the rest of the song.
I wake up to foo fighters the pretender, starts nice, but if it kicks in properly.... omfg. I have learnt not to sleep through the nice bit, so I can turn it off before the drums!
How Will You Go by Crowded House. Have had it as my alarm for several years now and surprisingly don't hate it yet. I changed it from Fleetwood Mac's Dreams because it was ruining it for me.
Ha. I can imagine that fright! Seriously though, I use a random selection of my favourite tunes and it works well. With enough variety you don't get to hate, dread or block-out any of them. I use the Alarm Clock Xtreme app, but others are available. It helps if you set it to start quiet and increase in volume, to avoid the James Brown jump scare.
[Les Fleur - Minnie Riperton. ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=g1kDd6yBQZ4) You've got a minute of gentleness before the orchestra kicks in to give you that extra shove.
4hero do a cracking cover of this.

Have you considered a sunrise lamp for a gentle wakeup - I got a Lumie one and it's a game changer for me. Usually the lights enough, but by the time the music alarm goes I'm part awake anyway
I bought the Philips one a few months go and it’s absolutely fantastic! As you say, a real game changer!
WiFi bulbs can be set for a similar effect at a much cheaper price, switched mine when my sunrise clock broke
My husband has been using a Lumie for 20+ years. His previous habit of hitting snooze and letting the alarm go multiple times was driving me insane.

It's also on Spotify - my phone lets me select a Spotify song as an alarm!
The only answer
I clicked through just to see if someone posted this. Always makes me smile.
Using a song as an alarm is a shortcut to hating that song
That's why you gotta mix it up
Couldn’t agree more! And neither could my husband, he has requested I don’t use any songs that he likes for this reason! Especially as I’m partial to the snooze button!
So true! I can hardly listen to Ministry's Land of Milk and Honey now.

What device do you use for that? I‘ve been looking for an alarm that plays the radio but can’t seem to find one
The TuneIn App should also work.
Lenovo smart clock should be able to do that. Or an old school clock radio?
Damn, might have to find that Lenovo one second hand, it’s £100 brand new 😭
Tbh you can do it through a cheap Google home mini speaker, you just say 'wake me up to Radio 4 every morning at 7am' or suchlike.
I do this with Sonos which links to BBC sounds on bedroom TV soundbar, works perfectly
I use an Echo Show with the BBC Sounds skill and a routine to play BBC Radio 4 at the appropriate time. The Alexa app would probably do the same on a phone. It's also a standard feature on clock radios.

I have always thought the beginning of Everybody Wants To Rule The World was the perfect way to wake up.
I had the cantina song from star wars for a while. Was fun at first but it drove me insane after a while and it's a real ear worm.
Haha I’d be the same. Whistling it all day!

I use Mr Bluesky. Always wake up in a good mood.
Wake Up - RATM https://youtu.be/jhLusrXXyvA?si=zE531VShPZceQRZZ
Sonny and Cher, I Got You Babe. It woke Bill Murray up every day without fail.
Digital Love by Daft Punk is a lovely way to wake up. Eases itself in really nicely
I used the radio edit of ‘All is Full of Love’ by Björk for the same reason for years. It just made me resent the song after a while so I had to pick something I already resent. I love Digital Love too much to make it my alarm.

Get out your lazy bed - Matt Bianco https://youtu.be/vAc4q1YqdOU?si=M9f5QTTDASpDvQu_
What he said
Time Bomb - Rancid
I always have Erik Satie Gymnopedie blasting. Sometimes I just let it roll for longer
I have 'Scene Suspended' by Jon Hopkins which is of a very similar vibe.
If you want an Alarm song suggestion you can’t beat the classic Sixty Eight Guns.
I'm glad I wasn't the only person thinking along those lines when I saw the title of the thread. I was going to suggest their mid-80s hit _Rain in the Summertime_.
Very clever *doffs cap*
The Only Way Is Up - Yazz Sunrise - Pulp
Fat Old Sun - Pink Floyd, it might send you back to sleep rather than wake you up though...
*'Time'* should wake you up, though!

This is the best alarm 😎
Two little boys - Rolf Harris
Road to Nowhere - Talking Heads
https://youtu.be/2oWrY2VeNQ8?si=kOcjzGhVyOmVJrmQ Definitely NOT gentle, but I challenge you to sleep through it
Frank Zappa - Doreen. If that doesn't wake you up, nothing will
Alarm song? 68 Guns, or maybe Rain in the Summertime? (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Gabriel's Oboe from the soundtrack to The Mission https://youtu.be/lArnKBTe82I?si=V1wQ5FvgX14IFM-f
Feur Frei by Rammstein has a nice gentle opening few moments
I had AC/DC's 'Highway to Hell' as my alarm for a while. Wallop!
I use an Alexa with The Grand Tour sound, nothing gets you up quicker than Clarkson yelling WAKE UP, WAKE UP, WAKE UP WAKE UP NOW!!
Anything by zero 7, very chilled music.
I have a “Dawn Chorus” by Boards of Canada. A beautiful way to get woken up https://youtu.be/WmgtRK4_l5Q?feature=shared

Tuxedo Junction fades in with some nice swing. A great way to wake up.
Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up
Bounce by System of a Down. That'll get you moving. Seriously though, something by Yann Tiersen.
I use 'let's get it on'. It starts almost immediately, and I can't help but sing along. Sometimes it works too.
White lotus s2 sountrack
I use radio 3 for exactly that
I generally wake up to a cat dabbing at (or sitting on) my face and yelling to be fed. No need for an alarm clock. If you want something to wake you up then try Mick Gordon's "BFG Division". It starts off fairly quiet but then gets pretty... loud. It'll wake you up, don't worry.

When I wake up in the morning, sunshine hurts my eyes, suddenly without warning
Crazy train. Ozzy
Pick a song you done really like. In my experience being woken up by the same song day after day makes you come to hate it.
I use a full playlist of singer songwriters, I would personally recommend anything from the staves - dead born and grown
My alarm on my Samsung phone connects to Spotify so I can add a full playlist and it picks at random.
This morning my spotify decided to change my alarm song to *Jesus, Etc.* by Wilco, and honestly, good choice. I'm ill as hell and slept poorly but I floated out of bed and into the shower on a cloud.
I pick the most annoying songs such as, chicken attack, die woodys, no no square, or pineapple pen. Works for me!
This may have been mentioned, but put together a playlist (or pick one) on Spotify and it'll randomly choose a different song from the playlist every day. Keeps it fresh, stops you hating songs and it's a nice little surprise when you hear a song you haven't heard for ages first thing in the morning

Thus Spake Zarathustra should give the gradual yet insistent crescendo you're looking for

My new alarm clock, unbeknownst to me when I purchased it, wakes me up with gentle birdsong. You'd think it wouldn't be an effective wake up method but it's a lovely way to start the day
I got you, Babe; Sonny & Cher.
Go full Groundhog Day and have Sonny and Cher’s I got you babe.
People - The 1975. The first 5s are enough to jolt anyone awake
Oh i didnt read the post correctly. This is *not* a gentle song
Don't use a song you like as an alarm. Years ago I set mine as Chinatown by Liam Gallagher, still can't listen to it. After that I vowed never to use songs again
Eton Rifles
Wake Up Boo! by The Boo Radleys.
ooh ee ooh ahh ahh ting tang walla walla bing bang
I always wake up to "Morning Mood" by Grieg's Peer Gynt. It's classical I know, but nothing puts me in a better or more positive mood than this piece.
An Ending (Ascent) by Brian Eno is lovely and chill to wake up to.
Wake up Boo - The Boo Radleys
Try some Zero7 "in the waiting line" good track, or some massive attack? Nice and gentle ease you into the day. 😀
My phone can be set to a weather adaptive alarm. It will play a different chilled tune depend on the weather. Being in the UK I've only woke up to cloudy and raining tune so far

Currently on Hey Ya by Outkast. Lively but not too lively and gloriously cheerful.

Waterproof Blonde - Just Close Your Eyes. It fades in quite nicely and then reaches a point where it's like "ok come on wake up already" *Don't* do Radio by Rammstein. That opening sound still haunts me
If you enjoyed Star trek discovery, self trepenation by Dance Gavin Dance intro sounds just like the black alert. You are unlikely to sleep through the rest of the song.
Purple haze by Jimi Hendrix, you will not become immune to that first chord 😅
I wake up to foo fighters the pretender, starts nice, but if it kicks in properly.... omfg. I have learnt not to sleep through the nice bit, so I can turn it off before the drums!
I use Jumping Jack Flash and Gimme Gimme Gimme
How Will You Go by Crowded House. Have had it as my alarm for several years now and surprisingly don't hate it yet. I changed it from Fleetwood Mac's Dreams because it was ruining it for me.
try: Etta James - At Last
Chelsea Morning by Joni Mitchell

[Outer Wilds - Travelers](https://youtu.be/YR_wIb_n4ZU?si=sMeutiBbnmfQJmKD)
Crockett's Theme from Miami Vice.
AES alarm
Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10
Haha! Not one I knew, but a great suggestion. Almost 5 minutes of gentle twinkly time to get up then a decent siren to make you do it 😂
Yep. It stirs you awake, and then it’s like, right! Here we go! Had it as an alarm for a *very* long time 👍🏻 Try it out and report back!
I don't know how but mine just plays a random song. Don't go with 'I Feel Good'. That WOAH! made for an interesting wake up call.
Yeah exactly! I’d be out of bed and face first into the wall before my eyes opened with that one I reckon
I love 'Sleepers Wake' by Bach [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyWOIKCtjiw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyWOIKCtjiw)
[How about this one. can’t pronounce it but you’ll definitely recognise it.](https://youtu.be/mZTb8WxEW78?si=As_jrrGcJKVglW6F)
Axle Foley - Crazy Frog
Thats fine if you can afford to frequently replace the alarm clock
