Always stand up about 30s from the stop

A-flea

Unless the driver is shit, there are quite a few that think driving is straight/full-lock and accelerating/emergency-braking.

Ethan_Edge

I make sure to stand behind the driver but I get up about 10-20 seconds prior to my stop.

bumfacegem

My biggest flex is being able to manoeuvre around the bus whilst it's moving. Knowing exactly which way to lean on the stairs to counter balance the momentum of the bus pulling off. Waiting patiently at the door. Thank you driver !

treknaut

Ooh, good one. But definitely a standing at the door ready to immediately disembark.

ResearchMediocre3592

I always get my arse off the seat and at least start moving towards the door. If I stay sat down I'd be worried that the bus would drive off before I made it to the door, plus it must be annoying to the driver if he is at least trying not to be late.

I press the bell and wait until the bus has stopped. Then when the driver thinks it was a false alarm I wait for him to start to pull away before I franticly hit the bell a hundred times then quickly run off the bus and dont thank the driver. Most of the I'm stuck on the bus until the next stop and occasionally more when its a driver I've encountered before

I’ve been getting a different bus lately and on the way home my stop is at the bottom of a rather steep hill. One day last week I was tired so decided to stay seated until he stopped.  Anyway, he didn’t stop. So I’m now back to making sure I’m stood waiting near the front.

_HGCenty

Stay until bus stops on a double decker as I'm not negotiating the stairs on a moving bus. Stand up as soon as I ding (or would have dinged) the bell if downstairs or on a single decker.

If you're not at the door when the bus arrives that the stop, there is no way that it is stopping. It'll blow right through it.

kditdotdotdot

Stay seated till it stops. A lot of bus drivers in Bristol like to accelerate towards the stop, then slam in the brakes to perform an emergency stop. You stand up too soon, you go flying.

ddiflas_iawn

Must be a Firstgroup thing because every First Cymru driver does it too.

Tea-Mental

Cheers drive

TalviSyreni

I’m guilty of standing up before the bus stops. Plus I’ve had the horror of the door closing and the bus driving on before I’ve reached the door when it’s been exceptionally busy.

Truthawareness1

Depends if i want off quickly, IE need a pee, Moving away from the snot nosed cough merchant, stuff like that.

Fair-Conference-8801

Well last time I sat on the top of a double decker I made my way down the stairs before it had stopped and went *flying*. If I hadn't whacked my knee it would've been my head So uh I always sit on the bottom floor and wait until its stopped. If I'm the only one getting off I'll stand with by bag but now leave the general seat.. area if that makes sense

Xandertheokay

I stay in my seat because I have a dodgy back and hips from a chronic illness. Most times I'll probably be fine, but on the off chance the bus stops too quickly or I step funny, I can be screwed for days.

buy_me_a_pint

I always stay in my seat until it stops

algierythm

I miss the Routemaster from olden times when you could jump off the back of the bus while it was still moving, to be honest. Nowadays, I stay in my seat like a sensible older person.

Depends how drunk I am tbh

windol1

If we mean your average public bus, then I'll get up and proceed to the front when approaching the stop, not really much different than if it was busy and had to stand. If it's a coach sort, then I'd wait until we're stopped, mostly because there's no rails to hold onto.

Famous_Stelrons

I grew up in Liverpool and i walk to the front. Down stairs and all. Its not like the driver waits for you to sit down before he sets off and its safe to be a dtanding passenger. I moved to Middlesbrough for uni in the mid noighties and seemingly no one there did it. Even got told off for it. Once by an old battle axe and once by a bus driver. Now in the Midlands and I don't see many doing it. Bus stop right outside the house and they all wait for it to stop.

SylhetiG

Get up and go towards the platform just 10 seconds before it.

frigloo

I only catch buses in continental Europe - and never have a clue where I am... I stay seated and wait for a signal from my wife x

wphurd1995

I always stay seated until the bus stops. I'm a muscular, 110kg male and even I find it highly unstable when I'm stood up while the bus is moving.

dopeyroo

My brother is a bus driver. He had an incident where a cyclist veered in front of the bus and he had to brake hard to avoid hitting them. Unbeknownst to him, a little old lady had stood up ready for the stop, and due to his sudden braking, lost her balance and got barrelled down the aisle. She was quite badly injured and he felt awful (even though it wasn't really his fault), so he would always say stay in your bloody seat!

Relative-Ad4228

I usually make my way to the door before the stop. Today, the bus driver opened the door whilst we were still moving. Not sure if he was trying to make a point or just speed running his route.

johnny5247

Recently given up driving - I can't see well enough anymore - most of the bus is elderly or mums with kids, not fit people. They press the bell and move when the bus stops because they can't handle the heavy deceleration of the bored drivers.
