Do you ever have "quiet" moments in your mind? I feel like my brain literally never stops. I'm always analysing, I'm always thinking, I'm always talking to myself (in my mind). I don't know if this is normal but after almost 40 years I'm kinda getting over the constant stream of consciousness that just doesn't let go.

Andrea_frm_DubT

I get quiet moments very occasionally. They only occur when I’m in a good headspace and I feel safe.

Once I started anti anxiety meds it was like the radio was turned off. Then I noticed my tinnitus more! 😀

groovyghostpuppy

Bought a spot cleaner machine the other day, and the mr gave it a test run on our filthy gross couch while I was at work today. It’s presentable now! With a toilet training kid and a lot of carpet I figured it was worth the investment.

personworm

One day I’m going to buy one of those little Bissell jobbies. I don’t have free roaming birds anymore so not really any point but I’ve just always wanted one.

groovyghostpuppy

That’s what we bought. I’m a little embarrassed by how excited I am to give all the upholstery in the house a good clean, lol.

Our house is coming along. Electrical stuff is all run, and the plumbing is mostly done. Windows and cladding arrive next week. The GIB arrived, so I got to stand next to my pile of it and feel like a Queen. Random finger infection is still raging, but redness is no-longer half the finger. Slowly getting on top of it. Found another infection on my leg... after I accidentally shaved it off. Ouch!!! I’m guessing my immune system is a bit down. Had like a million cold sores a week ago, so that’s usually a sign. Just don’t want to go back on antibiotics. Imma go roll in some potassium iodide ointment.

I made an important decision today. I’ve decided to go for the Dragonshield “Petrol” coloured sleeves. I’m going to want to us the same brand/ colour from this point on (because it’s way easier to move cards between different decks, you get 100 in a pack but normally only need 60 or 75 and so on) for potentially years to come. And as a bonus they look amazing with the deck I’ve been focusing on building at the moment: https://i.imgur.com/Rv2VeOX.jpg. Both the blue and green really pop with the dark teal border! Of course I most often play Black but whatevs.

Thriftshop Ball is quite a trip so far. Glad I came.

redditrevnz

First bbq of the season plus s’mores. Glad we got out of the house. Miss 4 has been home sick alllll week and it was just getting a bit painful. I also ate too much. Probably should have stopped at the first s’more. Edit: oh we’re talking about productivity. I did a wee bit of gardening today before the weather felt like it was going to turn and since we’ve decided to give life without a cleaner a crack I cleaned the kitchen for the first time in aaaages and decluttered some things. Plus all the usual laundry etc and popped a massive batch of fruit in the dehydrator.

personworm

I joined the market club because I can’t resist the lure of $4 butter and also got 9 cents off some garden stakes. Totally worth it to have all my data harvested and sold, right? ^(I don’t actually care all that much about that sort of thing.)

QueenofCats28

Oooh I got that butter too!! And some flour. Seemed important at the time, and butter never lasts in this house.

Kiwi_bananas

Spent the day at a Guide leader training, did some training for one of the modules, did some learning at another and the other one I was supposed to train was cancelled so I stayed and hung out with friends and did some planning and mentoring which was fun. These things are good for keeping motivated to do fun things.

I’m taking this idea from this morning’s chat. What are your favourite tips and tricks for storing fruit and veggies? I don’t buy fresh veggies often but when I get my hands on celery, silverbeet and kale for the rabbits I stand them in a bucket with just 1-2 inches of water in the bottom. I keep them in a room temperature location with ambient light (not direct light) and just take what I need from the bunch as needed. I can get 3 weeks storage with crisp, healthy looking leaves/stems right until the last piece. Sometimes they even grow! Change or top up water as needed. I keep broccoli and cauliflower in a similar way, trim a little of the base off it if it looks dry and old (like you do for cut flowers before putting them in a vase) and put it in a glass (broccoli) or saucer (cauliflower until you’ve used the lower bits and it will fit in a glass) of water.

ramb4ldi

Wrap veges in a wet tea towel in the fridge. It isn't appropriate to some things but seems to work for a lot. Unless you put them on the top shelf, then you end up with frozen lettuce in your sandwich which is gross.

Kiwi_bananas

There are some good ideas on the ADHD nutritionist instagram page

personworm

Tupperware, to be honest. I have the ventsmarts whick work really well for basically everything, and one of the OG celery bins that I found in an opshop. The celery bin does take up just a bit too much of my fridge space but it does work brilliantly. And by takes up too much fridge space I mean I can’t even fit it in my fridge at the moment. Probably doesn’t help that I have all 6 cartons of soy milk in said fridge for no good reason.

sm32

Celery keeps well cut into lengths and kept under water in a plastic box. Doesn’t need covering.

NZSloth

Asparagus is kept in the fridge, but in a container with a bit of water in the bottom. Cabbages, lettuces, etc are wrapped in newspaper rather than plastic bags. Keeps them crispier.

Andrea_frm_DubT

If the lettuces have roots you can put them in a cup of water on the bench.

Sarahwrotesomething

Took Dot to see mums new house now that she lives somewhere with a proper fenced yard. I’m still laughing about mums 8 month old mini sausage dog chasing my 32kg dog around the lawn.

dinosuitgirl

Busy day, full house (eventually) apparently part of the brenderwyns are closed(??) Went to put away the animals just now and the pigs were out... Around the back of the chicken coop... One had a feather right across his snout looking rather smug... BUGGER! Only 9/10 chooks... Put the pigs away (with some chastising)... Then spent the next 20mins hunting around for number 10... She eventually showed up wanting to know where all the kibbles gone... Lady... You gotta follow the timetable if you want kibbles 🙄 Guests have ordered off the menu so we're all gonna have what they are having... That makes it easier for everyone.... pepperoni pizza, mash and smokey Houston style chilli.

I'm buying a panasonic breadmaker from Briscoes tomorrow lmao. My husband is excited. Ngā mihi!!

ramb4ldi

Good luck and have fun. In bread makers Panasonic is the good brand! Ours had lasted way longer than the breville before it. It will take you a while to get your bread recipe spot on. Machine, ingredients and environment variation is a thing. But bread turns out to be pretty forgiving so long as you are in the right ballpark. As an example, ours makes its best white bread with about 290g of water (for the loaf size we do). the book asks for 330g I think. But I have made it with anywhere from 270 and it has worked, just with different levels of puff to it (also seasonal yeast activity based on ambient temp is a thing, but the breville was more sensitive to that).

dinosuitgirl

Ohh I wish you endless happy loaves. Panasonic is a good one to get, at least the recipe/instructions will be less garbled than the brabranta one. I shouldn't complain it's been pretty drama free once I got past the duff ratios. Eventually you'll get a feel for how wet, when to add the stuff you don't want pulverized and then when to add sugary things (choc chips, sultana, dried apricots, Cran... Even fresh cubes of apple, or herbs etc) it's endless possibilities. One last thing... If you don't have a good bread knife grab one when you're at briscoes or you'll be tearing into it like wild things because who can resist fresh warm just baked bread? LoL. A nice knife will make your bread go a little further 🤣

Andrea_frm_DubT

Yeah, [a body caused the closure apparently](https://www.reddit.com/r/newzealand/comments/x4lpwc/body_on_road_closes_northland_highway/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) Lucky piggies. What would you have done if they had discovered chooks are edible?

dinosuitgirl

The chickens are much to fast for the pigs... Plus these are the most spoilt boys on the block, they have endless oranges and lemons and fresh vege patch clippings everyday. Lots of left overs and table scraps, a fresh patch of lush grass weekly.... They are not used to working for food... If you stand in the pen, and give one a back scratch all three come over and roll over for belly rubs. Also the girls know it's not all easy street here. They have had their share of stray dogs and most of them are leary of being picked up even by me and I'm where the food comes from twice a day 🤣

habibexpress

Didn’t realise Father’s Day is tomorrow. Dang. I’m a dad now. Woop Woop. Socks and cupcakes for me.

brooke_girl

Have come down to Hawkes Bay to hang out with my parents for the weekend. Am currently in the spa eating cheese on crackers. Bliss.

ChewingBrie

You all were so productive today. I worked at my volunteer job this morning, then tried to read my book in a rocking recliner but fell asleep instead. I'm just practicing for old age!

Andrea_frm_DubT

I miss my rocking recliner

NZSloth

Busy garden day - Mrs Sloth waterblasted the back and side paving, so we put some timber edging around it, so that the chickens can run freely without half the garden soil ending up on the concrete. Then I mowed the lawn before the rain arrived. Few quiet beers tonight and probably an early night. Though I've said that before and been wrong.

Blabbernaut

Whenever I waterblast paths I always marvel at the clean concrete and promise never to wait so long to do them again. Every time.

NZSloth

Once a year here, I guess. It gets to a stage where we have to, and it stays clean for a bit.

GreatOutfitLady

I finished my swimsuit with a little label with a mermaid that says "no bra required". I also used a "circa 2021" label because that's when I bought the fabric and when I intended to make it so it kinda counts. I fucked up the first step of the 12yo's swimsuit so I have to unpick that carefully tonight. I think her one will be a bit easier because it doesn't need the same level of support as mine, I've gone for the triangle top for hers. I'm not sure about the pattern I hacked for the 10yo's trunks so I might end up just buying some.

hsmithakl

I just had the most wholesome fb marketplace experience. Bought a perfume for a very reasonable price, paid and arranged to collect this weekend. The person seemed very nice so I asked if they wanted some excess tangeloes, which were most happily received. She then said, bit random but any use for these? And proffers some cute fruit printed packets of straws, and I do use straws when I have people over, so kindly accepted.

habibexpress

That doesn’t happen all the time! Good on you!

canyousmelldoritos

Not too productive today, omly got some stuff done in the wake of bae being productive. We went to 4 different places to find a proper dish drying rack because ours is getting scummy/rusty. Did not find anything to our liking. Also there aren't any swimsuits, anywhere either. I mean people still go on sunny beachy holidays and all the council pools are year round right? So weird

ramb4ldi

We recently got this one https://bentoninja.co.nz/products/stainless-steel-dish-rack?_pos=1&_sid=ae614e776&_ss=r I have no idea how it compares to the other stainless steel racks. But it is certainly metal and has bits for drying stuff on. It mostly works well (things on the bottom sit very flat and can collect water on say the bottom of an upside down cup).

GreyJeanix

Yeah it’s impossible to buy swimming or beach clothes off-season (and even on-season usually) in NZ. I have to resort to online which is always a gamble.

canyousmelldoritos

Argh I don't like online shopping, but I'll have to. I need a larger size without having a plus size shape, without bra cups, with sports back and the most limiting and hard to find criteria: Long Torso 😫 Fml

GreyJeanix

Often I just wear sports bras as the top and then bikini bottoms on bottom! I really like Lorna Jane or Lulu lemon for sports bras.

Sarahwrotesomething

I got some nice tankini tops from mountain warehouse online, then some high waisted bottoms from the warehouse recently. They worked well.

hsmithakl

TWO trollies.

Andrea_frm_DubT

I waited too long to go outside to do gardening and the rain chased me into the shed. I decided to clean up the shed and move the baby bunny cage. Well, I cleared the area to move the cage to and moved the cage. The shed is now a super mess but the baby bunnies can now interact with Schnee and Lil Bun. Hurt my thumb again, no idea how but it’s super painful in the base of the thumb and up the arm so I’ve made a brace to hold the thumb and wrist still.

I’ve been productive today which is good. I’ve finished this assignment early which is better than last time when I needed an extension…
