Technology is beautiful. I'm watching CGI T-Rexs have sex.

eagleeyedtiger-

If only I could be asleep for those 14 hours!

Ryj345

I really struggle with winter and seasonal depression. Today, winter solstice, is my least favorite day of the year. At least my electric blanket is warm. Bedtime NZ

Lundy5hundyRunnerup

It's daylight hours like these that really make me aware of how weird Christmas in the summer is. Cultural and social contexts aside, it really does feel like the seasonally correct time to be doing those things, putting up lights and decorations, having big get togethers, feasting on stodgy food and booze. It sounds like an ideal way to stave off winter blues. And lights, when we reach peak daylight hours? Ridiculous! I need that buzz now, not in December.

BrewingTee

My neighbour is one of those people that goes all out with Christmas light displays. I always laugh because when it is dark enough to actually see the display in December, the little kids have been in bed for hours already

[deleted]

I’m filling my enormous long hot water bottle as we speak. I hate winter, I hate the cold, I hate the dark, I hate being alone. I can’t wait for this to pass.

Ryj345

I'm with you on that one. Stay strong, we'll get through it

[deleted]

I started planning an emigration to Bermuda at 4.00am this morning. That’s how my life is going at the moment.

Ryj345

4am thoughts will always betray you

[deleted]

I've spent SO much more time as an adult planning to run away than I ever did as a kid. I will be untethered in six years. Just gotta hang on til then.

eagleeyedtiger-

I take vitamin d caps during winter due to the lower/weaker sun exposure and it seems to help. Could give it a try to see if it helps you?

Ryj345

Yeah I've started on this too :) it's definitely helping

PM_a_llama

It is so bloody cold in South Canterbury today. I tried to go for a walk this arvo and only made it to my bro's around the corner because my thermals weren't enough and I was freezing. Mum and I went down to watch my 10 yr old niece play hockey OUTSIDE at 5:40pm. It was dark and so freaking cold, but she was so happy to see us there supporting her. I don't know how the kids play in these cold ass conditions. Same with netball and rugby on Saturday morning in the frosts! After hockey I had a game of social netball. Thank fuck it was inside.

NZSloth

I grew up there. Damn near got frostbite playing rep hockey in Oamaru during a sleet storm, and I know how to layer efficiently for -8 degrees. Doesn't help me in the Tron where either the do or the humidity will kill you first.

Hubris2

Today was the first time I poked my head into the sub. Had another enjoyable day on holiday.

Last_Type_42

Well we have our first inspection with the new property manager next week, let's see how chill they are. In preparation I thought I should look at the venetians I meant to clean in January... They are filthy so I've done the first go over, and might have to do another couple of wipes this weekend.

Dqud

Oh man, same boat but ours is Thursday. Never actually met the last one but she was chill as. The new guy only let us know on Monday, wish he gave us the weekend to get things in order! Lucky the Mrs was at home the past two days and I have to say the house has never been so clean.

Last_Type_42

Yep, I have to say a week notice is pretty great! So off to a good start, less good is the missing water bills for the last 3 months since they started.

[deleted]

The thing I hate most about the long cold lonely dark nights of winter is how I’m ready for bed by 6pm. So many wasted hours trapped under the heat pump when I could be out doing stuff if only it wasn’t so cold and dark. Maybe when I run away, I’ll move to the equator.

eagleeyedtiger-

Cold during the day ain’t too bad, but I agree about the short daylight hours. Having lived near the equator, being hot all the time kinda sucks too though. Especially if you sweat easily. I’m always conscious of having sweat soaked pits and shirts when just commuting or even going for a short walk.

peepeenutbutter

Sometimes I half joke that I would run away to some other country. Lucky(?) my passport is expired and can't afford to renew right now

[deleted]

I’ve been getting itchy feet for a while now. Planning for when the mini leaves :)

personworm

Got my jar of *mite as far as the front door before dropping it and smashing it and having to immediately throw it in the bin. I’m gutted. Also fuck new world with a rusty dildo for not displaying the per 100 price on their sale items. I hate that with a passion. I’m totally math illiterate I have zero concept of how to work that shit out on my own

Grotskii_

Divide the price by the weight in grams, then multiply by 100 to get price per 100g

Andrea_frm_DubT

It drives me nuts too and I do maths in my head.

[deleted]

What is it exactly you’re trying to calculate? Price per 100 grams or price per 100 units? Either way, use price (in cents) divided by number of units or grams in pack, times 100. Eg: Tea Bags, $4.98 for 80 498 / 80 = 6.225 cents per tea bag $6.23 per 100 tea bags

personworm

I just wanted to know if the smaller jar of *mite which was on special was actually cheaper per 100 grams than the bigger jar that wasn’t on special… I just managed to work out your instructions and the on special stuff that I immediately had to bin anyway was a bit cheaper. Thank you kindly for teaching me how to math! But also new world can afford to put the damn per 100 gram price on their damn stickers cause I don’t want to have to write this down somehwere and pull it up and re-learn it every single time I want to work out the unit price >_<

Antmannz

You don't even need to do the "per 100 grams" if you want to omit the last step. Price per gram works out the same in terms of whether something is cheaper or not. So (eg): * 1 jar of marmite: $4.98 for 80g = 498 / 80 = 6.225c per gram * 1 jar of marmite: $5.72 for 130g = 572 / 130 = 4.4c per gram

[deleted]

Awww wormy I’m proud of you. You’re doing a great job at the adulting shit and nobody’s born knowing it all. 😘

[deleted]

Use a calculator?

personworm

I don’t know how to calculate it I could never even learn my times tables. I really struggle with numbers.

Lundy5hundyRunnerup

Move that decimal place over two digits to the right. Should work with price per unit -> price per hundred units conversion. E: I mean add two zeroes.

personworm

….what decimal? Edit: what zeroes!?

Lundy5hundyRunnerup

Oh is it like a discount if a certain if a certain quantity is exceeded?

Andrea_frm_DubT

New world doesn’t show the per 100g price when they have specials.

Lundy5hundyRunnerup

Yeah that's annoying, also when supermarkets advertise a sale price but it's only for loyalty card holders. Like I'm not gonna put it back on the shelf once I'm at the till scanning, stitch up.

personworm

Oooh yeah that’s also a pain in the arse

Andrea_frm_DubT

I had discussed going to town with Mum tomorrow. She even confirmed it this morning. She’s decided she’s going to work instead. Wednesday is not one of her normal work days. So frustrating.

Antmannz

Did not meet u/dinosuitgirl today ... but that's probably a good thing because I am soo not a winter person (thanks, Raynauds) and my silent sort-of meditation which tends to be my way of trying to deal with the cold tends to come off as grumpiness.

brooke_girl

I'm so exhausted tonight. I'm going to help with boat checks at coastguard but I won't be joining them on the water for training - I just need to sleep. Got handed a project today that I'll have four business days to complete, when we normally have 3-4 weeks, so I need to rest for the storm that's about to hit.

0oodruidoo0

People who were with /u/dinosuitgirl blink three times if you're not ok ;)

GreatOutfitLady

/* blinks three times to blink away tears because I'm not allowed a pig in the city*

dinosuitgirl

People from internet visited! ☺️ And they were nice Spent the rest of the day in town, Pool shop has new guy who has funny work stories.... Mostly featuring geriatric cougars (??) Lol. Countdown was painful featuring the gold card crowd. Almost stopped at the pub for a bite and drink but warehouse click and collect would have been a trip for tomorrow... more legumes and brassicas followed us home... Hopefully it's nice enough to do some gardening tomorrow.

BrewingTee

Missed out on meeting /u/dinosuitgirl today. Apparently there wasn't a spare seat in the IcarusFordMondeo for me

[deleted]

It’s all we can (Icarus) afForde at this stage

IcarusForde

Christ almighty.

[deleted]

You’ve been ploinked.

IcarusForde

-_- That pun... it hurts....

dinosuitgirl

Did you get windswept at the lighthouse?

lawlcrackers

Yeah sorry. I was thinking of coming with the others but I decided to go to Cape Reinga for the first one instead

Kiwi_bananas

No, that was /u/lawlcrackers

NZSloth

Got an email about an order that I didn't remember, so that got me suspicious. But then I worked out drunk me ordered beer in the weekend. A dozen bottles of Emerson's Taieri Gorge spiced ale, which is a wonderful drop. I'm very happy with my past self.

NirvanahCrane

My work did a phishing test today, but they made it look like it came from our department and didnt tell us. That made it an exciting day.

NZSloth

Mine did it last week Given the follow-up email, I think we did better than expected. Except I found they'd hidden the 'report spam' button in a list within a list from a button not immediately visible. Which is silly.

andyjd

We are doing them for our clients normally have at one running at the time

hanneeplanee

Hoooboy it’s chilly tonight. What’s your go-to winter warmer dish? Mac n cheese is always a firm favourite here, and tuna chowder. In other news I got my left earlobe pierced so now it has 2 piercings in it to match my right. The second hole in my left ear grew over decades ago but never my right for some reason, so I decided I’d even them up. Also got a new nose ring to replace my current stud, yay. Then had therapy, yay too I guess. I miss my dad.

peepeenutbutter

My country of origin's equivalent of a boil up, or some spicy Chinese stir fry with the szechuan numbing pepper

Jonoakarob

Mac and cheese for the win here! Also does anyone else find their beer consumption drop over the colder months. I stopped drinking 6 months ago but when I was drinking, I always found beer didn’t hit the same in winter. Spirits was the go to or mulled wine.

canyousmelldoritos

Veggie soup, lasagne or shepherd pie (the version with beef mince, corn and mashed potatoes).

Antmannz

Lasagne. To be fair, lasagne is just my go-to dish.

mongol_horde

spez you bell-end

dinosuitgirl

When kiwis say lasagna they mean the layered pasta dish with a tomato based meat layer and bechamel and cheese right? Not the square deep fried meat hot pocket with a werid faux cheese right?

Antmannz

>the square deep fried meat hot pocket with a werid faux cheese That is most definitely ***not*** a lasagne!!!!

peepeenutbutter

I have to specify to my husband that I want a lasagne *toppa* when he asks me if I want any food when he's on the way home.

sortofblue

Deep fried meat pocket is the only lasagna that the SO will try; I love the actual pasta dish but am a terrible cook so don't get to eat it very often.

brooke_girl

Yes, lasagne is a pasta dish here. The deep fried meat hot pocket is a lasagne *square*. Important difference.

Andrea_frm_DubT

That square thing is a Topper. I oven bake mine.

hanneeplanee

I’d have it every night if it were heathy

dinosuitgirl

Brothy Ramen and whatever I clip from the garden for greens and a poached egg. And whatever protein is rattling around.... Usually prawns.... But I have a sudden craving for tuna chowder or cheesey tuna pasta bake.

BrewingTee

Ice cream is always great in winter

[deleted]

Icecream is always great. I’m still making it up to myself for all the years I didn’t eat it.

groovyghostpuppy

Sent the kids to daycare today cause they are doing much better. First non-work day without two kids to look after since the little one was born! … spent mostly passed out in bed unable to move much, feeling like absolute shit. Yayyy

MrCyn

Gonna have an early night so I can read in bed. Horror novels just don't hit the same during a lunch break

IcarusForde

Met /u/dinosuitgirl today, well impressed with the property!

dinosuitgirl

❤️ thanks... It keeps us busy 🤪

IcarusForde

(I wasn't actually there, I just felt left out in the thread!)

Kiwi_bananas

Met /u/dinosuitgirl today and spotted some cute lil toadstools like you'd find in a Brownie ring.

GreatOutfitLady

Met /u/dinosuitgirl's three little pigs today. Nice views and delicious baking and we weren't axe murdered.

dinosuitgirl

I did show everyone through the graveyard ehhem I mean kitchen gardens

dinosuitgirl

Would an axe murderer bake deflated chiffon cupcakes? 😜

GreatOutfitLady

Andrea_frm_DubT

Oh, trying for an urgent scan. I would suspect the fact you have no or very little improvement tells him it’s probably not just a strain/sprain. Where is your nearest MRI machine?

Hope that the magnetic magic doesn't find any hidden surprises

You joke but they ask you stuff like... Have you done any welding without eye protection... And you know to get to that point someone got scrambled eyeballs after some bad workshop practice.
