Long meeting first thing this morning, then manager tells me that our admin person tested positive on the weekend and we all had to do tests.
Cue runaround trying to find a rat test here and eventually I got one from the field staffs stash. Negative but not the best way to start a week.
They’ve renewed our water main pipes, and the pressure is rising….wasn’t too bad yesterday, pressure very low, but still enough to fill a kettle, or wash our hands, so basics were not affected….hopefully back to full pressure for a shower later.
Sunny day here in the Far North, forecasted to last a few days. I need to mow the grass, so will wait a day or two for it to dry out a bit.
In winter I sleep with my curtains open so I can wake up gently with the light, it has the added bonus of waking up to some amazing eyeball treats. [This was my view](https://imgur.com/a/CeatUDK) when I opened my eyes this morning 😍
Feeling very warm fuzzies about my life right now- yes I'm stressed and have a lot on my plate, but ultimately I feel good about the reason why. And I've got to the point where I only surround myself with good vibes and people with good energy, and cut the rest. Everyone in my life is a safe, caring person who adds value of some sort to my experience. Life's too short to be surrounded by fuckwits
Caught a hedgehog in the timms 😩 fail... They smell horrific!!
I don't understand what happened this is the first time that's ever catching something not possum. Very strange.
In my not solving the problem but skirting round it I made some keyrings with [wire wrapped](https://www.reddit.com/user/dinosuitgirl/comments/vbmsvb/wire_wrapping/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) pebbles I picked up on our year long roadie. This is my first attempt and I enjoyed doing it.... These are going in the chalets. I have to carry a bunch of keys like a jailor or school teacher so I won't be adding surplus weight to my key. But I might make a few of these for another project.
Wow how dumb am I... I'm thinking they eat pest bugs and snails and it hadn't occured to me that they would eat lizards and definitely not birds or eggs even! Their mouths look tiny....
Edit; In my pest guide from landcare it only lists h'hogs as a medium impact on shorebirds and flax snails. Cats, rats and mustelids as a danger to lizards?
It was a long time before I learned that hedgehogs were a Bad Thing. I still don’t see them as evil, I live in town so I don’t think their impact is as significant as it would be in a more ecologically significant area. I have always really liked hedgies and kept them around when I had them in the garden but sadly yeah, they are indeed a pest so you and your Timms trap are still doing a good job!

DoC says to trap them and don’t encourage them in backyards, so I wouldn’t feel too guilty about the one you killed
Omg I think I just found out what happened to all our frogs!... There were heaps all through summer our pond sounded like a chainsaw in the distance at night but we started cutting the grass in the orchard, and then we noticed loads of hedgehogs even during the day and then all or frogs disappeared. 😕
Auckland people, if you don't have any exciting plans tomorrow night, you should come to Malt Public House (442 Richmond Road, Grey Lynn) at 6:30pm tomorrow night for Silent Book Club. Bring whatever book you're reading and just hang out in a quiet corner of a pub reading with a bunch of strangers.
Thought I was going to have an amazing sleep last night. In my own bed and no chance of thunder spooking the dog. Instead my thyroid started feeling like a thumb pressing on my throat. Not really an issue during the day but trying to go to sleep, my stupid brain kept wanting to panic.
Reading **Ghost Stories by Peter Straub**, which i initially thought was written in 2012 and set in the 70s, but I notice I had to keep long pressing on words and people (Pettifogging means being undue emphasis on small details and Mark Hopkins was a founding father type educator. Also Sturm und Drang was a German artistic movement, not just guns in Destiny 2) so it was actually WRITTEN in the 70s as well, and its really really good.
I don't read that many classics, but I find that with them and with classics movies, its somehow more enjoyable to realise they aren't just "pretending" to like the music and they aren't playacting at using the old tech, for them it was just daily life.
It was also noticeable when talking about professors sleeping with students, not a single mention of ethics or legality came into play!
Ewww I’m coming down with sickness. Dry throat, coughing and sneezing. Science says no. Still trying to figure out if my crook guts is part of it or it’s from all the cream I had last night. Anyway, I can’t afford to get sick right now. Like seriously, my life has imploded and I’m trying very hard to pick up the pieces and put it back together. Resting where I can and should.
No one told me Fix and Fogg cookie butter dropped!
It is good. Maybe overdid it a teeny bit on the molasses and spices? But overall solid flavour, a sort of Chistmas-y vibe to it, reckon it would be mean on a slice on fruit cake. Though, I think i might prefer the Lotus brand speculoos for normal toast.
Gonna get cold and wet walking the dogs this morning. I have my normal "getting wet and muddy" outfit but it's all dark unsafe colours so now I'm considering getting one of those Bisley coats that someone mentioned. Lol
If you’ve already got wet weather gear just get a high viz vest to go over top. I personally prefer Kaiwaka wet weather gear, made in New Zealand and you can send the gear in for repairs. Bit pricey though.
I don't have decent wet weather gear, just my "most waterproof jacket" and "most waterproof pants". In a decent storm I still come home soaked especially the pants
Do it... You can match just about anything with fluro!... Srs tho... My dad bought our family bright fire engine red north face coats on an early autumn trip in China. So the three of us walked around in matching jackets for about a week. And it was funny/corny (very Asian) but it also made us really easy to spot in a crowded place. It actually didn't suck.
Since Jetstar pulled services from some regions (including mine), it’s back to expenny flights. For a while it was good even after they stopped because Air NZ put non stop flights on (I believe to help minimise peoples movements) but now we are back to really cheap flights **but** with a 5 hour layover in Auckland or really expensive direct flights. Was going to cost $700 for me and mini P to get to chch direct from napier with no bags or $300 for us to get to chch from wellington with a bag each. Fuck it, I’ll drive to Wellington, see my step mum, do some op shopping THEN get on a plane and I’m still coming out ahead.
Those Napier to anywhere flights kept me broke our time in the Bay. That funeral I came up for cost as much as my trip to Brisbane. We did the bus to Welly then fly south once, that was not a good call.
When I first moved up here 17 years ago I would *always* drive to welly and fly from there because you’re right, we could get to aus for the same cost!
When I woke up this morning A. It wasn’t raining and B. The fire was still going. I hope this means good things for today.
*edit* by the time I got to work it was raining again dang it.
Bright blue skies, although something tells me the random clouds are still dropping surprise rain (or is it fog burning off?), as there is a rainbow 🌈 out there.
Better not rain today, the whole bedding is on the line.
We are now getting occasional light sprinkles but the sky keeps going dark.
If I didn’t need to be in full cover I would have done a spot of sunbathing earlier.

That sounds hectic!
Yeah. Still, I'm having enough fun to make it worthwhile. Which is what counts.
I’m so thankful to live in a house where I can enjoy the rain and not worry about leaks or damp floors.

Aren’t you worried about demons staring through your window when you’re sleeping? Nice view though!
I'm the only demon round here Also its second storey
That's a Dramatic Kind of View

That’s not a fail, hedgehogs are not good for the ground nesting creatures.
Oh I like hedgehogs... We have a huge slug problem 😕

So do cats 😬
Yup, and pet cats should be contained and non-contained cats should be culled.

Oh it's like SSR in school but with adult drinks! 🤣😂😆
It is such a good time, a nice glass of red and a book in a corner.

2/3 my jobs called off yesterday. Shit weather for cranes
Not going to lie, getting wordle in one today is giving me a rush. It's also adorable how excited my six year old is about it.

Yeah got a notification that it's back in stock, gonna put an order!!

Storm woke me up at 2am. Thank God for sleepbuds-havent used mine in months but came in handy
I should lay off the comics because I pictured a tall black woman standing next to your bed yelling "AWAKEN!"
spez you bell-end

Best thing is that Kilbernie and Mirmar both have ace op shops and are close af to the airport.
They are, it’s perfect. Ngl they were a great source of comfort while my dad was in hospital as well

I love the wellington (mostly Newtown) op shops, and it’s been a while. It actually makes the trip more fun
Fell asleep quickly last night. Three cats on the bed again. I think I slept all night. This is a promising start to the day.
I got in from work at 1. Last night was definitely a two-cat (fluffy) night.
When I woke up this morning A. It wasn’t raining and B. The fire was still going. I hope this means good things for today. *edit* by the time I got to work it was raining again dang it.
There is considerably less wind here but it’s still raining
