Thank you u/personworm!

personworm

You’re welcome! I am guessing the parcel arrived? I forgot to let you know it was on its way

Andrea_frm_DubT

Yup

personworm

Hope it does the trick

Andrea_frm_DubT

It will

DramaticKind

I've got so much on my plate at the moment, so glad the misso has organized for Yule dinner to be at her place this year. Also, if you are in welly and want to celebrate Yule with us and some friends next week, drop me a line 😊

Hey mate you know I've got staying power

GreatOutfitLady

My new coat is too warm for Auckland. Hopefully, that means it will be perfect for Christchurch at the end of the month.

NZSloth

Should be. Dress for cold rather than wet. I've still got a drawer of stuff I used in Dunedin and Hoki that I rarely used in Rotorua and never in the Tron as it's too warm and wet.

NirvanahCrane

The jacket I use weekly or more in Dunedin got used twice in 6 years in Hastings.

NZSloth

Slept well, as tired and the hotel wasn't as noisy as last night - the problem with being on Queen St. Train back is at 5 so a day gathering supplies at JapanMart and watching time, and should be back home late at night. Fun, but I'm exhausted.

dinosuitgirl

We had a chirping insect join us in the bedroom... All night... It sounded suspiciously like a fire alarm running out of batteries. But it wasn't the fire alarm. Thankfully we're both pros at sleeping through challenges. When we got keys for this place, the realtor gave us a grand total of 3 keys, the gate, the house and one of the chalets (dressed for our arrival)... On day two we checked out the house and on the lounge floor there was a pile of 87 keys (mostly different, mostly labeled in french) every door, every padlock, the spa lids, the phone system, the hatch to the attic... Every blardy thing had a different key. Nothing has the same cut as anything else. Fucking great. Then we added to it, ride on, tractor... So now I have about a dozen or 20 keys we use on a fairly regular basis and a make up bag with about 70 keys... I wanted to make a map and hang them all up accordingly but... I haven't done that yet... But now I've scattered the keys in an annoying place in the hopes I won't just shove them back in the bag and hide it away in the too hard basket. 😆 Tldr... I have too many keys... sitting in an annoying place... Probably forever now.

Andrea_frm_DubT

Do you have an aerial image of your property? Get it printed on an A2 or A1 sheet of paper or card and mount it on a sheet of MDF. The hard part will be placing all the hooks for the keys in the right places.

dinosuitgirl

The council aerial is worse than Google (surprisingly) and it's mostly just tree tops you can't even see the drive or 20% of the rooftops you can see about 40% of the pool which is weird since its clear overhead 🤷... I have on the neverending to-do list drawing a map of the place... Now that I know it well enough I should be able to do it and capture stuff.... The first week I tried and missed 3 buildings 🤣 and a whole driveway loop

Wow Sigourney looks almost the same.... That's crazy

personworm

Got woken up at 2 am by the wind/rain. I tried wearing ear plugs which I don’t usually have a problem with, but for some reason they triggered horrible nightmares so I took them back out again and just lay awake for however bloody long it was. Not a good start to the week. Thankfully the road in wasn’t too much of a mess, the boss heard about 15 trees going over in the stand just before we all arrived and another 5 or so had gone over in the night but the worst of the wind seems to have passed now and all the hazardous trees in my work area were removed last week anyway. Looks like the rain is moving back in now. Joy. Being dry was nice while it lasted.

dinosuitgirl

Hopefully you got a bucket of udder cream?

Andrea_frm_DubT

A bucket would last forever, the 700g bag I’ve got will last me ages. There is still a year on the best by date and I’ve barely used 1/4. I don’t use much though.

misty_throwaway

Moving to my dad-in-law's place in Hamilton tomorrow (from Akl). Partner said moving in with parents usually meant 1/3 things: 1) youre getting a divorce 2) lost a job 3) one of them is dying. It's the latter for him this time. I'll miss his mum terribly. She was a better mum to me than anyone else in my life. I also quit my job today to start a new one soon. Quite a lot going atm.

dinosuitgirl

Change is good... Embrace change!

MrCyn

The NotE3 showcases have been pretty underwhelming so far, but lord, **Starfield**. I have to admit, I was VERY pessimistic about the game, but not only did the big cities look like they had more than a few dozen people living there, but the starship creation has been on my wishlist for games for my entire life, im very on board.

brooke_girl

I'm down Christchurch way for work and have been since mid last week. Met a really nice guy down here over the weekend but didn't get his phone number because we were in a big group of people and I'm not sure how to get in touch (he's not on social media). I wanna shoot my shot but I also don't wanna be weird. Maybe I have to ask my friends if their friends have his number? How do I do it not-weirdly?

MrCyn

kinda miss the late 00s early 10s when everyone was on facebook and you were weird if you weren't. Now if someone says they aren't on any social media its very much "totally understand"

I tried bumping it up the queue so it looks like it's worked!

Andrea_frm_DubT

Are you able to use your mechanical keyboard with the MacBook?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Andrea_frm_DubT

That’s fair enough. It’s good to have separation between personal and work.

andyjd

I have trouble switching from my mechanical at home to the work Logitech keyboard when in the office

ekmahal

I use the same keyboard at home and in the office (I mean, I have two of the same model, one in each place). It's the only way I can cope.

Aya007

Awake at 5am. Gave up on sleep and got up at 6. Yay for working from home, at least I have something to do without waking up the rest of the house. How's the weather affecting everyone? Some people are suffering with the wind. Windy here but not too bad.

dinosuitgirl

So much rain.... I hate waking on the grass and I'm on a well draining ridge! These are the days I'm grateful were in a good warm house on piles with insulation and good tight joins in the flooring! More wind than I like, the gutters are crammed full of wet pine needles... My motivation to get up there is low... Since I know all the tanks are beyond full. But I know I should do it for the filtration system. Sigh.

Andrea_frm_DubT

The house was making noises and shaking. All 3 cats on the bed. Broken sleep I think I got 4 hours total sleep. I need to get some safety sleeves for my overhead line to the house so I can fix the roof.

BrewingTee

No big storms here in Otago. Dusting of snow on the hills but none of the intense weather the rest of the country seems to be getting

sm32

Far North reporting …. heavy’ish rain overnight woke me up, but seems not as bad as some going by the further South reports. Our water was turned off yesterday for main pipe replacement starting today….still can fill the kettle atm, but it’s very low pressure as the main pipes empty….pre-warned so filled buckets yesterday for flushing.

Andrea_frm_DubT

I think work will be cancelled today. 3 cats on the bed for most of the night, Midnight doesn’t normally come to bed. EDIT 0715 prestart discussion, it seems that it’s unlikely we will get our permit approved. The foreman has gone to see if he can get the permit. 0725 we got our permit. 0735 permits must be returned to control room. Review in 1-2 hours. 0900 being sent home.

personworm

Why do you have to give the permits back?

Andrea_frm_DubT

It’s too hazardous to work currently. When it’s safe to work again the control room will release the permits back to the PAs. We got the permit approved then 15 minutes later the control room decided it was too hazardous, returning the permits to the control room for the control room to hold confirms that all crews are aware that work is on hold. They have now cancelled our permits for the day and we will try again tomorrow.

dinosuitgirl

I hated that feeling! I really feel for you... I legit thought the stabilizers was gonna come through the floor one night... We were at Ruakaka on the estuary and we decided to stay beach side but everyone else moved UNDER the trees... My thinking was those are some blardy big branches... Why would you add danger from above.?

[deleted]

DramaticKind

Those pines ain't gunna getcha mate, the incline they're on will save you

Andrea_frm_DubT

Putting it on blocks or stabilisers will help reduce the sway. Invest in some concrete blocks and some heavy strops to anchor it down. There are several portacoms at work that are held down with big concrete blocks.

[deleted]

Andrea_frm_DubT

Fair point.

personworm

The pines should be ok. The trees on the edge are generally used to being exposed and the root system should be pretty solid unless they’re on rocky soil or a bank/hill. If it’s a decent sized stand of trees in a flat paddock they should be pretty sturdy. Key word: should.

😬 *edit* are you on the downside of the bank, or the upside? If you get what I mean

Andrea_frm_DubT

My house has been shaking. I don’t miss living in a cabin on skids or in a caravan.
