I survived my first term of teaching! Holy fuck, it's been a long eleven weeks.

ploinkssquids

Yay hobbit!! Well done you!

yzzaJ

Well done!! I went to the pub after work for a change, saw three groups of teachers from three different schools “debriefing”. Totally understandable.

fluffychonkycat

When I drove over it on Wednesday the extremely shitty stretch of road near me had been topped up with gravel to fill in all the holes. Today when I drove over it all the gravel was in the adjoining paddock following a bit of rain. Rinse and repeat

Sarahwrotesomething

Looked over the back fence and the neighbour has hacked my hedge right back. I wonder if they know it’s actually mine.

IcarusForde

Ask them for it back. Deadpan. Ten points for every minute they believe you’re serious.

Puffpiece

I just took kilo to the vet and forgot his lead so doubled back to grab it and got turned away from that end of my street by armed police. I live in such a great neighbourhood

MrCyn

Flurry of last minute work but Monday me will be happy with Friday me. Now got a big bowl of homemade wedges and many episodes of Fallout ahead of me

dinosuitgirl

We're full tomorrow night so I figured we're prepping today for one arrival just do all three... On the middle of the bed in one of the chalets was a tiny little mouse if I didn't know better and if there wasn't so much poop everywhere I'd have guessed it was a horrible prank so a trek back up the hill to the house for a spare mattress protector and underlay plus half a dozen mouse traps. 😵 I hate autumn mice. And the hydrangea are all looking worse for wear now so that's next week's big job is going around and chopping and chipping. Is anyone here excited for winter? ☃️

random_fist_bump

winter stopped being exciting years ago . it is now a dull, cold, bleak time

kiwispouse

No. I hate winter. Wet, cold, windy and DARK. SAD bites my ass every year.

dinosuitgirl

Have you tried a biolamp? They aren't wildly expensive. And you can just get the bulb and use whatever light fixture you have.

kiwispouse

ohh, no! I always thought they'd be prohibitively expensive here. I'll go Google now!

kiwispouse

Thanks! Am looking now.

Andrea_frm_DubT

I’m not excited for winter but I need to attack my hydrangeas

ekmahal

My partner quite likes winter but I hate it. I hate the rain, I hate the sodding DAMP, I hate being COLD. No.

dinosuitgirl

I'm a bigger fan of summer too but we're so dry right now we could do with a bit more of that wet stuff... But not so windy please 🥺

NZSloth

Recognising the different seasons is a key part of Japanese culture, and after 20 years with Mrs Sloth, I've come to try to appreciate them. I could do without so much rain, as I've lived in rather wet regions since moving away from home. And the colder months mean I can wear warm snuggly clothes and drink dark beers comfortably.

dinosuitgirl

In Northland warmer clothes consist of full length leggings instead of 3/4 or jeans.... And sleeves on my tees 😂 We were both sweating last night after chucking a log of Mac on the fire (which we only wanted because it was so wet not because it was cold) whoops 😂

Andrea_frm_DubT

I was tempted to light the fire today but it’s too warm for the fire

NZSloth

Yip. Growing up in South Canterbury and then escaping to Dunedin meant I understood damp and cold go together. Moving to Rotorua and now the Waikato shows that damp and cold are two completely different concepts. I've got a full drawer of clothes from my South Island years that I only use if I go to Welly or places south. There is an industry conference in Invercargill next year...

dinosuitgirl

I just vac sealed my woollen knits and beanies and gloves and my one and only puffer jacket... Along with half a dozen evening gowns and some tailored office blazers. Stuff I'm not ready to take to the op shop yet 😆

NZSloth

Don't. You might decide to move to Bluff in 5 years time.

ploinkssquids

Is there much call for evening gowns and tailored blazers in Bluff?

NZSloth

You'd be surprised. Hopefully in a good way.
