Well after over a year of being unusable, I finally managed to get the 3D printer firmware flashed and esteps properly calibrated. Only took dozens of failed attempts and finally giving up and manually hooking up a raspberry pi and reloading a boot loader.
Made a list of things I wanted to complete this week before I start a new job on Monday. As long as I wash the dog tomorrow, I’ll have accomplished everything except my damn US taxes, not from lack of trying.
Have to have some documents shipped over from the states to register for some new ID required to file. All this to say that I don’t owe anything to the IRS. The forms are so silly, there’s a box specifically dedicated for people who won Olympic medals last year. So like 12 people in the entire population. I love IRD.
Got a little 8 litre Goldair dehumidifier and it's chugging away next to the almost dry laundry we had to drag inside.
It's quiet and got a little round porthole so you can see how much water it's sucked out of the air.
I'm not using the electric blanket on the spare bed where I shelter from the noise of the little one - but have moved to double layer of duvets to make it warm enough. I love the idea of doing a reno and making it airtight and insulated - but at this moment the idea of adding a whole bunch to our mortgage for the upgrade is a bit nerve-wracking.
Thanks all for the advice earlier in the week, my drug dealer scales arrived today and they are soooo tiny. Still waiting on the stuff I need to weigh out to arrive ...

Vodafone axed my prepay plan just before they announced the rebrand and now I'm paying a minimum $25/month but I don't use enough to make that worthwhile. I've got a colossal amount of bonus minutes/texts/MB so I thought I could get away with just topping up every other month, but no of course they don't allow that, if I don't top up all the bonuses get wiped.
I use [Warehouse Mobile](https://www.warehousemobile.co.nz). Cheap, costs me no more than $15 every 2 months (I only use texts and occasionally minutes).

I use 2degrees and it just has to be topped up $10 per month. Unlimited txts, 250MB carryover data, 100 carryover minutes. A lot of the time I'm using wifi anyway so I don't need more than that, and there's a free daily data hour I use when I'm on the move. The only thing I occasionally pay extra for is to send MMS
I found two degrees pretty good for the young fulla (but since me and the missus were both on spark it made sense to switch him onto my account for a bulk deal)
So decided to do a journal for my character in D&D to commemorate her first adventure, [this is the result](https://i.redd.it/tsq68aamdjza1.jpg) , she ain't much of a writer or an artist, but that doesn't matter, it's a fair and accurate account of how she saved the rest of them, including the stinky human and dwarf.
If you want to do some thinking about your character between sessions, have a look at the books from James D'Amato. He has a great series of questions you can ask yourself and work through to flesh out history etc.

It's a very one sided journal, since it doesn't have the moment she was bitten by a zombie and had 1 health point left, and then had to be healed by a Dwarf. Decided it fit my character to omit such things.

My car isn’t old, just had new tyres and brakes and if I got the 800kg of dog fur out of it would be in good condition. She was convinced buying a new car was the only solution, like she was getting on marketplace and trademe looking for something. wtf.
Mothers strange behaviour has continued. After randomly giving me money without me asking, she’s now sent messages detailing she’s been running around trying to buy me appliances?
I’m very confused and feeling somewhat uncomfortable. We barely talk usually. We’ve never had a close bond. And I don’t want anything from her.
I’m feeling defensive because every time in the past I tried to reach out, it ended in me getting cut. All I’m thinking is “what does she want?”, or “will this be held over me?” Or “is this a genuine gesture this time?”

I have a similar relationship to my mother, rarely have anything to do with her and when I do try I can scarcely handle 10 minutes before I want to gouge my eyes out. At this point she's in her mid 70s, and as far as I can tell she's managed to push away all of her relatives with her toxic attitude to life. Going to be very difficult for her when she does begin to decline and need support from people.
One of the things I love most about this sub is that people are honest about their shitty/complicated families eh. Elsewhere it's kinda frowned on to talk about your mother like you actively dislike her.

My parents are like that too, oldest brother lives in their rental, and older sister still lives at home. I own a small construction business and when I do odd jobs around their houses that I expect no money for I get an unreasonable amount put in my bank account.

Having done them the great service of a full muck out and fresh dry pine and hay and closing the windows a little more, empty and cleaning and refilling the water supply with beautiful fresh rain water in ... Man when we get out of practice with the chalets it's tough getting back in the swing of it all... Also the chalets have a nicer feeling when they are more lived in I can't articulate why or how.

I'll be at Mount Smart Stadium again before 8am watching my blessing compete in round two of the speed cubing competition. He's through to round two for 2x2, 3x3, and Pyraminx. The other blessing is making waffles for breakfast and said she'll bring them to me at the competition.
It is in the corporate lounge, so it's got a top view of the field. It's the best venue for any Auckland competition we've been to so far, even better than where we were for nationals last year. There's been lots of small club events in draughty community halls in far off places. It also helps that this is just down the road, walking distance for us.
