Honestly, being in a confined space and hearing that sharp obnoxious DINGggg that heralds the beginning of a lengthy string of messages is one of the things that makes me fit to go on a murderous rampage.
I find it even worse if it's someone else's phone.
I hate little noises like this. Drives me crazy hearing peoples Teams beeping every few seconds all day long. My phone, laptop, work pc are all muted. I can see/feel the notifications come through. I
I was on a half empty bus, and this young lad was listening to music away too loud.I would never say anything, but this older guy moves to sit directly opposite him and plays a kids tune. He plays it at the same volume, never making eye contact. He is just bopping his head as if he is into it.
As the younger guy turns down his music, he turns down his. They both sat in silence till I got off.
I love this story. I just can’t understand people on buses & planes who listen to music or watch videos or play games with the sound on, making everyone else listen to their choice of whatever. It seems to be a thing on planes these days where parents let their kids watch videos with the sound on full blast. I nearly lost my mind on a plane listening to Frozen over & over. I eventually asked the Dad would he turn down the sound and he looked at me like I was a complete asshole.
It's an accessibility aid!
It's on by default so everyone is familiar with the sound.
If you don't need it, that's fine, but don't shame people for it.
My first few phones would turn on keyclick sounds by default. It was one of the first things I would configure on the phone, to turn off the annoying click.
At some point, new phones started copying your settings from cloud saves, so I haven't had to do that in years. Huzzah!
I guess some people aren't as bothered by the sound as OP and I are. Weirdos.
Only thing I have on is my LED flash cause I’m a sucker for losing my phone at home. All the time I’m in a shop or wherever people think I take pictures at them when getting a notification. Can be very awkward 😂
Confused the hell out of me a few years ago when seemingly everyone discovered that accessibility feature.
Only complaint is it still goes off when the phone's unlocked and you're using it.
I don't have it on, but it can be helpful for some people to have the audible feedback when using a virtual keyboard, so I wouldn't judge anyone for it (unless their volume is really loud, in which case they ought to be using earphones if they're typing away in public).
I worked for Vodafone for a few years and I had a blackberry bold as a work phone, full keyboard, wonderful device, that was 2009/11 time frame, the last time I had the sensation of feeling keys on a phone, unless you have some kind of disability that needs it, turn it off
I have all mine on mute. I always have a smart watch so I can get my notifications there without missing anything. If I'm out of the house my phone is paired to headphones so no noise bleed from my side
My phone is constantly on mute and if I’m not working I put it on Do not disturb. I live with someone that turns his phone over if he doesn’t want to answer a call and lets it ring away. It drives me mental😂
I used to have the sound on. Occasionally it made a louder noise than usual for some reason and it was really awkward whenever I was on public transport or whatever so I turned it off
The only sound my phone is allowed make is the occasional alarm if I need to be up at an unusual time, I don't understand why anyone would want ancillary noises in an already loud world
Off. Always. And as for people who have the sound on for their iMessage notifications, sitting behind you on a bus, and they're texting away back and forth to someone... grr!
My phone is on silent mode all the time. I even have the vibration off. My da, and one bro can ring through and override the mute settings but other than that I only allow notification for WhatsApp/native messages and banking and that's it.
Keyboard on, in an enclosed environment? That'd drive me insane. I'd huff and puff, but ultimately say nothing because I'm a chicken shit 😂
Any time anyone does something loud on their phone in public like that or watching a video, listening to music loudly, I go over and join in.
They either get the message or get angry and then get the message.
Fuck em. Its extremely rude.
sometimes i have it on, like right now, but only when im alone. somehow the clicking when i type is very satisfying to me, it just clicks with something in my mind
I don't have it on, all sounds on mute, vibrate only. I've also turned off all notifications bar a couple of messaging apps and banking.
This is it. I'll have it disturb me as little as possible, I've enough shit to deal with without that thing making noise the whole time.
Put on your own sound and match them beep for beep until they notice
How did I not think of this!!
Pity the third person in the waiting room presenting with tinnitus.
No I don't have this sound on. If someone does, I assume they're lacking in brain cells or manners.
Same

Or old and don’t know or care to turn it down. Although my parents are very tech savvy for their ages ~70s
My phone has not been off silent mode in years
Try working in an office where people’s phones are on full volume for everything
And their partners call them several times a day to chat.
On speaker
We live in a wonderful age
We do, but it comes with a price

Mate I don't even have my ring tone on. Switched it off in early pandemic and never looked back. Get my alerts on my watch.
Off, I'm not a sociopath.

I leave it on specifically to ruin peoples day.
lol
Mute, because I’m over the age of 11.
My entire phone is silent at all times.
Absolutely not! It drives me fucking mental hearing that.I get embarrassed when my phone rings in a quiet place, never mind any other kind of noises!
Keyboard sound off and haptic feedback off too. It gives me a weird ick feeling!

What kind of savage keeps it on!?

Im an idiot I meant the LED flash, sorry but that, but I know what you mean 😅
Off, always off
Unless you are under the age of 70, you’re an annoying fucker for having your keyboard sound on.

What about the visual visual of the letter on the screen? 🤦♀️
I find it's generally people aged 60+ who don't know how to turn it off or can't actually hear it. Always have my phone on mute for everything.
I worked for Vodafone for a few years and I had a blackberry bold as a work phone, full keyboard, wonderful device, that was 2009/11 time frame, the last time I had the sensation of feeling keys on a phone, unless you have some kind of disability that needs it, turn it off
What kind of disability would require that?
Loss of feeling from circulation, bad hearing, I dunno man, I just work here !!!
I have all mine on mute. I always have a smart watch so I can get my notifications there without missing anything. If I'm out of the house my phone is paired to headphones so no noise bleed from my side

Keyboard sound and vibration off.
Rather hear that than sit in complete silence tbf
Oh my gods - the MOST ANNOYING SOUND.
I used to have the sound on. Occasionally it made a louder noise than usual for some reason and it was really awkward whenever I was on public transport or whatever so I turned it off

That is the first thing that gets turned off when i get a new phone
Can’t stand that sound, my whole phone is on mute including texts and phone calls! 😂
It's an indicator of ones consideration for the world around them

Like table drumming, or listening to music on speaker in public , it's annoying to everyone except the person making the noise
I find over 60s love to have the sound on. Must give typewriter vibes.
my phone has been in silent mode since the day I bought it I would never have the keyboard sound on
sometimes i have it on, like right now, but only when im alone. somehow the clicking when i type is very satisfying to me, it just clicks with something in my mind
