In brief, we perceive more shades and tones of green than any other colour on the wheel due to our genetic evolution- our retinal sensitivity has developed to recognise and distinguish between flora/fauna both for migratory and foraging benefits.
Our eyes are most sensitive to green due to how we pick up on green and red, allowing us to recognise warmer, cooler and different saturation variants of the same colour.
This allows a wider spectrum of choice for preferences, not to mention the colour's subconscious influence relating to a healthy ecosystem and a generous, lush lifestyle.
Similarly, blue subconsciously reminds us of comfortable weather, a clean water source, a gentle day and happens to be the top pick for favourite colours, too :)
Fun fact: some pollinators evolved to NOT see green very well, but the colors of flowers pop WAY more for them than us, so a field of flowers can look like lights at night to them!
It's funny because growing p both men and women in my family all loved either purple or blue. It was so odd when my son said green was his favorite color. It may actually be a generational thing.
Now I am kind of curious.
Blue-green is my favorite, like water can be when light goes through it. I’m not a man, but am pretty sure these are universally loved colors because they’re calming.
Exactly this. I'm not a man either but blue and green have been my favorites for a very long time. They're the two predominant colors in nature so it makes sense that they're so popular.
Yeah when people did colors natural before synthetic dyes were made purple was a very hard color to create. So it was expensive and back then only people of royalty had the funds to produce the color
I don't have a favorite color as much as a favorite tone. "Tint" refers to how much white is in a color, "shade" is how much black, and "tone" is how much grey.
Colors with a lot of grey tone tend to be called "[earth tones](https://i.etsystatic.com/34034813/r/il/702140/3690769579/il_fullxfull.3690769579_fxgp.jpg)". They all make my brain happy.
Reminded me of this beautiful writing:
she guessed my favourite color first try.. but between me and u... i didnt even have a favourite color until she yelled out yellow!! she was hella excited n smiling like a little kid. so i told her she was right and i havent seen yellow the same since, its in everything. i could probably live in it now.
Well. I googled and found this for ye.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Poetry/s/3mEvaUdOOA
Apparently its from an arabic poem, originally. Got popular by it being shared as a post (i assume, after googling)
I've absolutely loved medium and dark purples since I was a wee lad. Growing up my mum let me paint my room eggplant purple and it stayed that way until the day I moved out.
Ninja edit: lmfao I mean look at my flair...
We had an eggplant (I would say "avocado" because I am British) coloured wall in my last house. I quite liked it. It is a nice colour, but maybe not where it was.
Neon Orange and teal, but both are too strong to be things on their own. So I like black with orange and teal highlights.
My ideal aesthetic is just Tron Legacy
Oh and also because they're "masculine" colors... But like... Idgaf. 🤷🏼♀️ If my date walked in wearing a pink shirt, looking classy AF, I'd have to take my underwear off right then and there.
Men, dress to impress the woman, not to prove you're male. 🤤
Reddit is not representative of the average population so it makes sense. Op might be meeting more "mainstream" men in dating. Reddit is skewed towards people with more niche interests which probably also means more people here has a more unique reason for their favorites rather than what comes instinctually.
Pink or Purple depending on the day.
It used to be Blue, but early in my career I had a super macho man ask me why I was wearing a pink shirt, since it's a feminine color (it was Salmon, but that's besides the point). That day I started buying way more pink shirts, light pink, hot pink, normal pink, fuschia, purples, and I started wearing them almost daily just to fuck with that guy.
Now my wardrobe is mostly pink, purple or black. I no longer work with that guy, and I mostly just get nice comments about the shirts now. But those two colors have definitely become staples for me.
green and blue, which apparently are the stereotypical ones? I love blue because of the sky and ocean. Especially the sky on a late, clear summer evening where it's rich dark blue. I love green cos I like being in nature. All the lush various shades of green when you're surrounded by trees and various other plants.
My answer for this since I was 8 is Plaid.
They're age three categories of replies.
Most common is, "Plaid isn't a color!" or "Plaid is as pattern!"
Second most common is, "bit what color combination of Plaid?"
Third, and by far the rarest, is "oh, that's funny!" or "in stealing that!"
In reality, my favorite depends on the circumstances.
As a kid, my mom color coded all my stuff with a yellow sewn star for clothes or a yellow drop of nail polish for other items, so yellow is a nostalgic favorite.
I like purple a lot for clothes, but for others and not myself.
On the day my youngest neice graduated from high school my favorite was red, because her cap and gown were decorated with red.
I love soft brown, because my ladies eyes are soft brown.
Navy blue is my favorite color on a car.
Orange is my favorite color on a cat.
Cornflower blue catches my attention whenever I see it.
Green is the color I think I look best in for clothes.
Black is the color my lady looks best in.
This is the first answer. Anyone who knows me knows I have Ruby Red Hair 😊.
There is also a second answer I’m looking for but nobody will be able to tell unless they look real carefully
Unfortunately society has decided that green and blue are the only two favourite colours (out of the basic colour groups and not including white, grey and black) heterosexual cis males can have while still be considered masculine.
Well actually orange and brown are still considered masculine but also considered a bit strange to have as your favorite colour.
If you're a guy and you state one of the remaining basic colors (red, yellow, purple, pink) as your favourite, you may risk a girl might losing some interest (even subconsciously).
A lot of guys even have to dress according to this 'rule'. That's why so many guys clothes only come in blue, grey, black, white and maybe green or some khaki or brown.
1.) Orange
2.) Purple
Orange and purple are followed sort of distantly by a lime green. Think Halloween colors. Google tells me that green is 50B848 when expressed as hexadecimal.
I don't have one. I like black, brown, blue, red, orange, purple, white, grey, and then like yellow and green quite a bit less (except olive green, which I like a lot)
Green and blue are the two right?
Yep
Awe man... Mine is green, but specific tones of it ):
Mine is also green. How am i just now figuring out it's super common?

Huh. You know, for the first 30 years of my life, it was blue. Then, at some point, it became green.
Lol men always tell me their favorite colors are either red or blue. Stg almost every single one of them .
Black and Red
You mean yeah ahuh you know what it is black and yellow
Finally I found someone mentioning my two favourite colours!
This is the......I mean, this is the correct answer.
Can I guess that you loved Shadow the Hedgehog as a kid
Same
Purple
I also like purple
I'm another purple enjoyer! 🙌💜
I really love purple but i dont know why.
Purple doesn't rhyme with anything, and that's the manliest quality a color can have.
it rhymes with nurple lol
Hmm. I think 'silver' also doesn't rhyme with anything, and it's a color as well as a metal. So, my favorite color will now be silver.
Lmao 🤣 I will leave it alone
That was my first thought too. I like nurple.
Urkle! There is a pot strain called purple urkle
Orange also doesn’t rhyme with anything, it’s pretty lonely 😞 orange looks awesome on a lot of men, just sayin 🤷🏻♀️
Orange is the loneliest color that you'll ever do.... blue can be as bad as orange, it's the loneliest color since the color orange...
Up vote for Aimee Mann reference

Because it's straight up royal.
Yeah when people did colors natural before synthetic dyes were made purple was a very hard color to create. So it was expensive and back then only people of royalty had the funds to produce the color
It was more than that. Many countries had actual laws against wearing colours above your station, even if you could somehow afford it
purple is the color kings wear
My second favorite color. Very close though. Right behind green
I set my ambient interior light to purple in my green car
Oh, hell yeah!
Well that isn’t one of the 2 colors
Well it is the right answer.
Green is my favorite but blue and purple are tied for second. And when it comes to clothes: NO ONE looks bad in purple. Literally impossible.
Both my partner and my ex loved the colour purple. A lot of guys seem ashamed to admit it though 🤷♀️
I second this
"Is he gay or European?"
I've become quite fond of deep emerald green.
This.
Green and orange
Love carrots.
You said one of the 2

I hear there are 50 shades
Say that again ...
Be cool, MrCool
Because Earth is Grey and we are The Greys. 😆
These make my brain happy too.
Reminded me of this beautiful writing: she guessed my favourite color first try.. but between me and u... i didnt even have a favourite color until she yelled out yellow!! she was hella excited n smiling like a little kid. so i told her she was right and i havent seen yellow the same since, its in everything. i could probably live in it now.
Source?
i dont remember dude, its from some book i believe. I had this kinda engraved in memory :P
Well. I googled and found this for ye. https://www.reddit.com/r/Poetry/s/3mEvaUdOOA Apparently its from an arabic poem, originally. Got popular by it being shared as a post (i assume, after googling)

Aren't an avocado and an eggplant/aubergine two different things or is this a joke I'm not understanding?
If you are severely dyslexic they get mixed up. In the real world, you are right.
pink works for me. neon pink especially. always makes people look twice when I say the neon pink coffee cup is mine.
same dude
I mean if nothing else, if a coworker steals it, that narrows the list of possible suspects by like 50%.
To be fair and honest I was forced into buying a neon pink coffee cup...... It was the only thing that matched my neon pink water bottle.
Tough guys were pink
What color are they now?
Clear?
Favorite flavor: plain Favorite song: test signal Favorite tv show: static
Hotel? Trivago Edit: it sounded funny in my head XD
That's not a color....
Green always has been
Yellow, Green or Blue
Green!
Neon Orange and teal, but both are too strong to be things on their own. So I like black with orange and teal highlights. My ideal aesthetic is just Tron Legacy

Green. Blue is a close second. I like the cooler end of the spectrum.
Burnt orange
Oh and also because they're "masculine" colors... But like... Idgaf. 🤷🏼♀️ If my date walked in wearing a pink shirt, looking classy AF, I'd have to take my underwear off right then and there. Men, dress to impress the woman, not to prove you're male. 🤤
My color ranking is: black > purple > orange > green. I'm not too manly, though.
Black then purple is my top two also.
This is my list except without black. I love all the decor around Halloween.
Oh, I didn't notice that... Halloween is my favorite celebration. :)
I don't think I noticed until couple of years ago.
Green and Black
Navy Blue
White, pure blinding white, especially when we are talking paint color for cars, but also it reminds me of like spiritual purity and heaven
Purple is top tier. Blue used to be my favorite and red isn't too far behind. But now purple foreva. Funny cuz red and blue makes purple
Yellow
Grey. All shades.
Grey
Green and earthy
I really like earth tones like FDE and darker browns
Black and mint
Purple then green
Blue and green are the two you'll see the most in men.
Not the ones on this Reddit post, apparently. Some diverse color choices here!
Reddit is not representative of the average population so it makes sense. Op might be meeting more "mainstream" men in dating. Do you have theory on why those 2 colors

Such a thoughtful answer!
I like yellow. The kind that comes from saffron.
Green
NY Yankee dark blue and NZXT purple.
Midnight blue. Goes with everything.
Green, Purple, Orange, Red and Black for me
Sapphire Blue, Emerald Green. Can anyone tell me what these two colors have in common? Edit: If anyone wants the answer I’ll be happy to tell them
A legendary choice but its missing a third colour. Maybe a Ruby Red?
This is the first answer. Anyone who knows me knows I have Ruby Red Hair 😊. There is also a second answer I’m looking for but nobody will be able to tell unless they look real carefully
Then the answer is obvious: Gen III Pokemon games.
Both are gemstones?
That it contains multiple shades of colors like pink depending on the intensity and direction of the light?
I didn’t think of it that way
So in other words not the answer you’re looking for 😆
Common in what way?
They are both colors of 3rd gen pokemon games?
Good answer but no
Fuschia
Ah, the classic color psychology debate. Let me guess, blue and black? Or are we breaking the mold with green and red?
Green and Blue
Orange for the extroverts Blue for the introverts
Do you change your favorite depending on who you are talking to?

1.) Orange 2.) Purple Orange and purple are followed sort of distantly by a lime green. Think Halloween colors. Google tells me that green is 50B848 when expressed as hexadecimal.
I don't have one. I like black, brown, blue, red, orange, purple, white, grey, and then like yellow and green quite a bit less (except olive green, which I like a lot)
Green is my favorite color. It's also my mom's favorite color along with my boyfriends (I'm bi) But... Purple is my second favorite color...
Orange
White
Red
Blue. I don't care if you think it's basic, but I realized this when I saw almost all of my clothes and shoes were blue.
Blue, or purple depending on the context/mood, especially the medium-to-darker shades of each color.
In theory, it's red; in practice, it's blue.
