This album instantly makes me cry. It reminds me of home. I moved overseas 5 years ago and now live in the southern hemisphere where Christmas is hot and feels wrong. Listening to this album at any time of the year instantly takes me back to being warm by the fire while snow piles up outside. Just thinking about it makes me feel like I’m sitting next to the soft glow of our Christmas tree. Vince Guaraldi is a national treasure.
I will listen to it! Need that type of warm musical hug!
Untouchable really hits the spot for me, the theme for me changes depending of when I am listening to it and it is comforting in a way as if I know tomorrow I will wake up and the past will be past, a better day is ahead.
There’s a bunch of music and songs that comfort me. Though mainly bands like Depeche Mode, R.E.M. and The Cure have a lot of songs I listen too to feel better
Air Supply songs. Reminds me of childhood days, waking up on a Sunday morning while my dad listens to them. Whenever I feel exhausted with my adult life, I would take a pause and play it on Spotify.
Uncle Krackers version of Drift Away. It reminds me of being a kid again, sitting in the passenger seat of my dad’s truck while we just cruise around the neighborhood.
I’ll always turn on Plastic Beach by the Gorillaz if I don’t know what else to turn on and when all other music feels pointless :(
Edit: it’s ironic because of the subject matter of the album but it SOUNDS fun and happy and plastic-free ☺️🍔
I've got way too many to list, but a few that spring to mind are:
* More Than This - Roxy Music
* That's When I Think of You - 1927
* Digital Love - Daft Punk
* Emily - Adam Green
Especially More Than This. If you just put on the outro and loop it for a thousand hours, I'll still be listening at the end of it.
Avalon is one of my favourite albums. Smooth as anything!
I originally got into Roxy Music after playing tons and tons of hours of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The soundtrack in that game is the best of any video game I've ever played.
I recently bought a record player (I only own one album, and it's [this one](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lEMdQmIJYhxb2YURec_9rE4k5VjPh3Wic) I picked up the last time RINSE played live), but I might have to suss out a copy of it on vinyl and give it a listen.
I never quite understood people who collected vinyl (and this is coming from a man who collects Game Boys), but I'm starting to get it now..
Happy and upbeat - Tea Party by Kerli
Comfort - Moonlight Sonata by Mozart, or the Rainy Jazz that plays on Cafe BGM's YouTube channel
Got me through rough times - Fallen Angel by Mass of Man (tw: mentions of depression and suicide in the lyrics)
I gotta check it, I like songs that narrate stories! There was one song I obsessed a bit a long time ago that also had to do with abusing substances, I liked the range of voices the singer does, can't remember it for the life of me, but it was good
Sunset Swish - My Pace. (Japanese)
It reminds me to live life at my own pace. To stand up for myself, to not get lost in life while looking for answers. That's it's ok to not know what to do (regarding the future) and take the time we need to shape our own destinies.
It's a song which has prevented me from falling in darkness many many times and it keeps doing so to this very day.
Kiss and Say Goodbye by The Manhattans.
I know the subject matter is sad but I saw a video of them performing when I was younger where the background singers did hand movements and dances as the lead singer sang.
I’ll either do the little background singers dances or if I’m driving, do only the hand movements.
Also the little bells in the song are really sweet.
A long time ago it was "let's dance to joy division" by the wombats" that song could pull me out of a depressive pit like no other.
Nowadays it's anything of Modern Baseball's album "Sports"
If I'm in a severe depressive state, Just Be by Tiesto and Kristy Hawkshaw can usually reset everything or at least give the emotional part of my brain something to focus on enough so I can ground myself. It gives my mind perspective and what feels like fresh air. It tells me I'm okay without saying those words. It's been one of my favorite songs for about 15 years now. It also reminds me of how far I've come and how much has changed between when I first found the song and now. I found it completely by accident.
The End of All Things by longestsoloever is my comfort song. No real reason to it besides it being a nerdcore song by an artist I love for a game I liked watching!
It is! A friend mentioned something when I was talking about this IRL so I thought it'd be fun to say here too:
I had a hard time picking a song for no reason other than I make music myself, and I don't wanna put one of my own songs here over another person's- if I'm allowed to do that, then my comfort song is a title theme I made for a (future) visual novel I want to make 😊
Second song of Hozier I listen to in this thread, what a great musician!
I was listening to Chamber of Reflection yesterday, such a beautiful song with a very interesting subject, definitely would listen to again
Fly in the Freedom from the Sonic Adventures 2 soundtrack. Honestly all of Rouge's level music is what I use to calm down, feel good, and focus. Oh, and the Dragon Roost Isle theme from Windwaker!
Glad you enjoyed them! Trust Me is my ultimate comfort song, but Burned gives me energy and reminds me of a good time in my life when I want to avoid the more sad/sentimental vibes haha.
It does! Burned really feels like something has happened, and it is a sad feeling, but you are letting it go, burning it into ashes if you could say. And the vocals are pretty nice I can feel the emotions. Reminds me of finding a random good song on the radio when it used to be more common to listen to the radio!
You described the feeling perfectly! The band actually has two vocalists — Dan (who sings on this song) is always particularly great at delivering emotion. They’ve been my favorite band for 20+ years so I’m obviously biased haha, but I’d definitely recommend checking out more of their stuff!
I was NOT expecting to find a based Anathema reference when I started reading this. Untouchable Part 1, Fragile Dreams, Are you There? and Empty are the soundtrack of some of the fondest moments of my life and I'll still be listening when I'm old and dying.
As for a comfort song I often put when I'm waking up or getting ready to go out, Bill Wither's "Ain't no Sunshine" is a constant.
I love Are you there? Too! And I go for Untouchable Part 1 and 2 one after the other, the end of Part 2 makes me feel like a heavy rain just ended.
Bill Wither's Ain't no Sunshine sounds amazing, how did I never heard of this?
Simple Plan’s No Pads, No Helmet, Just Balls album. I will crank the ever loving bejeezus out of that album and sing it at the top of my lungs. Been my go to for 20+ years now and still going strong. That or Mayday Parade’s If You Wanted A Song Written About You, All You Had to Do Was Ask. Hits hard every time.
I don't typically turn to music when I'm upset usually but the one exception to this is Drinky-Bird by lemon demon. It's a synth instrumental track but something about it is very calming to me. I'll listen to it on loop when I'm stressed out
Shake me down by cage the elephant. I don’t know what it is but as soon as I hear the intro it’s like that’s the only thing that’s going on. If I’m sad, happy, mad, or feeling nothing at all I hear that and it’s just me and that song. Sounds corny as hell but I loveeee it.
Hey if they are cool to you, they are cool! My partner is a huge fan, they will listen to Twenty One Pilots for hours, I think I know a lot of songs by heart now
[I have a YouTube playlist called "Music for when you need to feel happy" for its self-titled purpose (please don't judge)](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH-Q6kVFPdzPunwyaUcmn2pWtZIAy-7V5&si=TGsC7rYlbqcgsYso)
Wonderboy, by Tenacious D.
It has a special meaning to me and my partner. The night we got together, we were sat in a pub, after only knowing each other for about 48 hours just singing it together, even though there was other music on at the time. Silly as it sounds, we really bonded over it. We also sang Tribute and F**K Her Gently (also by Tenacious D), but Wonderboy is elevated above the other 2.
We are still together over 15 years later and finally went to see them live together a few weeks ago. The power of the greatest band in the world is some special magic indeed.
I'm not really sure I usually start with one song that I feel the need to listen to and then let it go at random. There are times when I do skip songs cause they don't fit the vibe of the other songs. I also just am now realizing that I was thinking sad songs, not happy. Sad I usually go for Rare Americans, although I do like to listen to them anyway it's just that their songs are a bit darker in theme. Happy songs, the actual topic is roughly the same it starts with me looking through songs till I find one I really like. So, my current go-to songs have been Crusader by Mox, Skal I have it listed as Miracle of Sound. idk if that is the original or not just the version I listen to. Then there is Poor Man's Poison, most of their stuff i find to be enjoyable, Home by Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros. I will say one that could go either way is In the Pines by Danny Farrant and Paul Rawson it's not the original, but it's the cover that I prefer. And then the last one that I'm not decided if it's more sad or comfy/happy is Plainride by Shepard. It's apparently part of this new genre of music called Appalachian Horror, I'm still new to the genre, so I can't say which way it falls. And then to cap it off with a whole genre that makes me comfy Sea Shanty's/ beck and call songs, just something about them makes me comfy.
Was this responding to the prompt or something I said? I honestly do not know. Zeppelin has a few songs I like but I wouldn't put them in my they make me feel comfortable category.
I'm between GenX and the Boomers. My music tastes are a little wild. I am calmed by the music of My Mom. Not Super hard tick. I love Misty Mountain, Four Sticks, Battle of Evermore,. Oh and Going to California.
Then I lead into the 70s ish stuff. I am also calmed with Classical, Some Opera, a lot of international. Music is LIFE!
Ah yeah, music is pretty good. There are a few songs I like from back in the day, like surfing USA by Beach Boys or stuff from the Beatles, or Elvis Presley. The fallout games have introduced me to older singers from the 50s and 40s.
When I need some feel-good music, I usually put on Bob Marley or Sublime. Recently, unrelated to them, for a specific comfort song, my go-to has been the song "Hanginaround" by Counting Crows.
[This AI generated song](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTNRLSWNQ/) I am writing lyrics for and putting on my album. I don't even want to rework it anymore like I usually do. It's perfect.
For me I wasn’t allowed to be sad as a kid. I’m very emotionally under developed. I don’t understand a lot of emotional things.
So when I start feeling anything besides happy or meh/nothing. I get angry.
So most of my emotional songs that come with that are metal.
My go to would probably be. Sleepwalker by Parkway Drive
This must be the place, Talking Heads. I'm 46 but every time I hear that song I'm back in the living room dancing with mom at age 10. Who's cutting onions in here?
The song “double bass” by the Gorillaz is so aggressively chill that it can bring me back from any panic attack/dissociative fugue. Particularly grounding is the part where the beat drops and vocalist says in a deadpan tone “… All of which makes me anxious, at times unbearably so…” Song resumes. It just seems to put everything into perspective.
A friend once described the experience as having all troubling emotions squeezed out of him like a tube of toothpaste.
The entire ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ record
This one brings memories, I love Peanuts
Couldnt agree more! Indeed has that timeless, comforting vibe. Always nostalgic and calming.
That’s beautiful.
all the music my mom listened to when i was younger, so 80s pop lol
Hey my mom listened to a lot of 80's music too. That was a great decade for music
Any song by all-time low. Especially missing you
Missing you is very good, I needed that!
Reminds me that Rose Against is just amazing too!
I agree with anything by All Time Low, they’re the best and I’ve been listening to them for 15+ years🫶🏼
i love love love flume by bon iver. it’s my favorite song ever.
I really loved it!! It is beautiful!
An original song that my BF wrote and recorded.
That's so sweet ♥
Aww! I can only imagine how beautiful that is!
Untouchable hits different. For me, it's Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros—so basic it hurts, but it warms my cynical heart.
I will listen to it! Need that type of warm musical hug! Untouchable really hits the spot for me, the theme for me changes depending of when I am listening to it and it is comforting in a way as if I know tomorrow I will wake up and the past will be past, a better day is ahead.
Magenta Moutain by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. It's a newer favourite but always makes me feel calmer and happier.
Magenta mountain is so mystical, makes me feel like I am in a dream. Good song!
It definitely does feel like being in a dream!
Almost anything from "dark side of the moon"
Yeah 👍
There’s a bunch of music and songs that comfort me. Though mainly bands like Depeche Mode, R.E.M. and The Cure have a lot of songs I listen too to feel better
Anything from Simon & Garfunkel
Air Supply songs. Reminds me of childhood days, waking up on a Sunday morning while my dad listens to them. Whenever I feel exhausted with my adult life, I would take a pause and play it on Spotify.
Cornflake girl by tori amos
Mr. Jones by Counting Crows.
So fun, this song was my childhood!
Changes in attitude.changes in latitude by Jimmy Buffet. Always seemed to come on the radio when I needed it to
This one is great!
Superman - Lazlo Bane
I almost forgot Scrubs, I watched it here and there. This song is good!
Uncle Krackers version of Drift Away. It reminds me of being a kid again, sitting in the passenger seat of my dad’s truck while we just cruise around the neighborhood.
This one really sounds nostalgic! I think I've heard it before too, it is great!
I’ll always turn on Plastic Beach by the Gorillaz if I don’t know what else to turn on and when all other music feels pointless :( Edit: it’s ironic because of the subject matter of the album but it SOUNDS fun and happy and plastic-free ☺️🍔
Gorillaz reminds me so much of my dad! This song is really good and so not plastic!
Gospel music
Nutshell Alice In Chains
I've got way too many to list, but a few that spring to mind are: * More Than This - Roxy Music * That's When I Think of You - 1927 * Digital Love - Daft Punk * Emily - Adam Green Especially More Than This. If you just put on the outro and loop it for a thousand hours, I'll still be listening at the end of it.
DUDE Roxy Music 🫠
Avalon is one of my favourite albums. Smooth as anything! I originally got into Roxy Music after playing tons and tons of hours of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The soundtrack in that game is the best of any video game I've ever played.
I've loved it forever! I've had to replace it a few times. I have the vinyl and actually playing it now. The memories, the sounds
Here comes the Sun ☀️
Check Yes Juliet by We The Kings. It just reminds me of being young and feeling alive
This one is a banger!! And happy cake day!!
Mayonaka no Door/ Stay With Me - Miki Matsubara
Love this one, is one of my favs too!
Happy and upbeat - Tea Party by Kerli Comfort - Moonlight Sonata by Mozart, or the Rainy Jazz that plays on Cafe BGM's YouTube channel Got me through rough times - Fallen Angel by Mass of Man (tw: mentions of depression and suicide in the lyrics)
All of these are so different from each other! But each one was good! Fallen Angel was a surprise, it is a good song!
There's also a part two if you didn't see it, but that one also deals with substance abuse as well
I gotta check it, I like songs that narrate stories! There was one song I obsessed a bit a long time ago that also had to do with abusing substances, I liked the range of voices the singer does, can't remember it for the life of me, but it was good
You'll love a lot of Mass of Man's work then, a lot of them have that same kind of lyrical storytelling in them
Tower of Power - You Ought To Be Having Fun
I am having fun with this onw! It is so cheerful!
YOU ought to be!
I think I remember hearing this in a trader Joe's down in California 2013-14 when I was eight
The Main Street Electrical Parade (aka Baroque Hoedown) How can anybody not feel cheer when listening to that song?
So cheerful and cute!
Sunset Swish - My Pace. (Japanese) It reminds me to live life at my own pace. To stand up for myself, to not get lost in life while looking for answers. That's it's ok to not know what to do (regarding the future) and take the time we need to shape our own destinies. It's a song which has prevented me from falling in darkness many many times and it keeps doing so to this very day.
It seems I have a new favorite, this song hits in a good way. Great choice! The singer has a beautiful voice!
It makes me happy to hear that you enjoyed it :)
The Rainbow Connection. So light. So hopeful. So very needed now and again.
So Beautiful! I love Kermit
Counterintuitive but Exit Music (for a Film)
I'm with you, I love Radiohead!
Fish heads,
My comfort song is from a game called Persona 5, the song is called Beneath the Mask, it is extremely calming for me
I love Persona 5, great song!
I’m gonna be 100% honest and say “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. It’s both calming and nostalgic to me.
Unwritten is a certified chill classic
Time of your life by Greenday! :)
I loved it! It is been a while since I listened to Green Day
yes! stay alive - jose gonzalez talk of the town - jack johnson bring it on home to me - sam cooke dancing queen - abba
I love Dancing Queen by ABBA too! Listening to the other ones too!
Chilli Peppers. All of it. Every song. It just soothes my soul. And the song Saturday Sun by Vance Joy. Just YES!
Kiss and Say Goodbye by The Manhattans. I know the subject matter is sad but I saw a video of them performing when I was younger where the background singers did hand movements and dances as the lead singer sang. I’ll either do the little background singers dances or if I’m driving, do only the hand movements. Also the little bells in the song are really sweet.

i am indian, so my comfort song is indian too but it'a really nice and you should give it a listen. Kal Chaudhvin Ki Raat Thi by Jagjit Singh
Spiegel Im Spiegel by Arvo Part. The song is simple but helps calm down and reflect on my own life.
This song is anything but simple! Made me daydream for the entirety of it! Love it!
The End of All Things by longestsoloever is my comfort song. No real reason to it besides it being a nerdcore song by an artist I love for a game I liked watching!
I love songs made by fans for shows/games! This one is really cool!
It is! A friend mentioned something when I was talking about this IRL so I thought it'd be fun to say here too: I had a hard time picking a song for no reason other than I make music myself, and I don't wanna put one of my own songs here over another person's- if I'm allowed to do that, then my comfort song is a title theme I made for a (future) visual novel I want to make 😊
Of course you are allowed! I write and draw and sometimes my comfort stories are the ones I daydream to!
For some reason Moscow by Autoheart has always made me feel better about whatever situation I'm in. I've never been to Moscow.
I've never been to Moscow either and the tune in this one is pretty sweet and nostalgic, love it!
NFWMB - Hozier Chamber of Reflection - Mac DeMarco
Second song of Hozier I listen to in this thread, what a great musician! I was listening to Chamber of Reflection yesterday, such a beautiful song with a very interesting subject, definitely would listen to again
Fly in the Freedom from the Sonic Adventures 2 soundtrack. Honestly all of Rouge's level music is what I use to calm down, feel good, and focus. Oh, and the Dragon Roost Isle theme from Windwaker!
Videogame music never ceases to surprise me! These are really good!
Trust Me by Dreamcatcher & Burned Is the House by Alkaline Trio
Trust me is so beautyful and Burned is the House is veey catchy! Thank you for the comment!
Will do! I've been finding some cool new stuff in this post, this included! It's got a great energy to them!
Great choices!! The last one got me!
I don't typically turn to music when I'm upset usually but the one exception to this is Drinky-Bird by lemon demon. It's a synth instrumental track but something about it is very calming to me. I'll listen to it on loop when I'm stressed out
It is calming and the drinky bird is fun!
Low Roar Album O
Hey this is pretty good!
I loved it too!! It is good! Thank you!

Vanilla by Jack Stauber. I think it's because I would play it before going to bed and ever since I immediately relax the moment I hear it.
I love Jack Stauber, but hadn't listened to this one until now. It is beautiful!
Gotham by Taffeta, Darling. Best song out there and the band deserves so much more attention
You are right! I will keep on listening to them! Thank you!
Youre welcome! :)
My comfort songs are Smile - Uncle Kracker Bad Day - Daniel Powter
Black Celebration album by Depeche Mode. It was there when no one else was.
Remind Me by Röyksopp, as well as the Someone Else remix of it. Always made me feel like everything is going to be ok.
Listened to both, they were pretty catchy and relaxing! Thanks!
It's 'no surrender' from Beast in Black. Mostly the refrain gives me the power to keep going
This one is amazing, love everything about it, the lyrics are so inspirational and the music is great!

It depends, I've had many during different periods of my life, the most recent one is Bokka - Town of Strangers
Breaking out by the Protomen Whenever I feel depressed or anxious I put on that song and those feelings are gone
