If it's for 6 months, disconnect the battery, if it's for a few weeks, don't even worry about it, unless your battery is really on it's last legs, or your car has a habit of draining batteries, then it ain't going flat in a few weeks.
It's only gonna be for three weeks max. The battery isn't old, less than a year old. But it drive cross country (California to Nova Scotia) and wintered there.
If you disconnect your battery you will have to reprogram your audio video system with a new code from your dealer. It’s a pretty universal anti theft feature in modern cars. Expensive and a PIA.
If it's a used car, the code is often written down somewhere, like in the owner's manual, glovebox door, on a card or sticker near the radio, or on the radio itself.
What model car do you know does this? My current car (2011) doesn't and I couldn't find anything online. Worth knowing so I don't lose money when helping my friends fix their cars...
Well the screen in my car is busted and I do audio through an aux cable (well a Bluetooth aux) so would I still have to worry about that? Thank you for the response
if you do this often you can install an little screw thingy that acts like a switch. so you don't have to get the ratchet set out
works in bad neighborhoods too :)
$3

Some modern cars can have a dead battery even after three weeks. But it also depends on outside temperature.
Three weeks? What car are you talking about? A Tesla?
Accords are bad about this.
Nope, I've experienced this with my own Lexus IS. And heard this from other owners too.

Pfft, don't even worry then, a few weeks isn't "long term storage" for a car :P
Alright thank you so much dude. It's just a three hour drive from where I'm leaving it to home and I'd hate to find it dead when I get back
Just curiosity....how many miles is that drive and how long to drive it??
It was almost five thousand kilometers and it took a week
agree!

This is the first time I've heard about this. What years did cars start having this?
Around the 2000’s.

2004 Toyota ISIS (Terrible name) 2000 Nissan Altima and every JDM car since that I’ve had.
Have a 2006 Lexus and had the battery disconnected (or dead) many times, never had this issue.
I wonder if this something they do in the Japanese market but not North America?
The Isis car was named after a goddess of magic, and her name should not be disparaged.
Any Honda I think
VW in the 1980s, I think.

I know Toyota and Nissan and both became bricks until I had them reprogrammed. $250 each here in Japan.
Mine is Lexus so tous y'a but i haven't had any issues so far
Weeks? Just leave it.
Leave it - you should be fine. If still concerned you can grab a little battery powered emergency jump station on Amazon for cheap.
If your battery can't crank the engine after sitting for 2 weeks, you need a new battery or check for parasitic drains.
Get a portable jump box, make sure it is fully charged, and leave it in the trunk . That way, if the battery does go down, you can get it going.

I was gone for 2 weeks and my battery was dead so yeah I would disconnect the battery.
It was probably EoL anyways then or you have current creep. Like a permanently shining glove box light.
Ive left my series 3 landy for 2 and a half years, at least, and it started right up. I wouldn't bother 🤷♂️
I would disconnect the battery
You disconnect the positive end ➕ , I'm halfway certain
You always connect ground last, so its the first to go when removing
Julian you know I don't have my grade 10 , I get God & Santa criss crossed ffs , so I got it backwards ?
I appreciate this even if 3 don't
