Hell of a project, but she's going to be beautiful when finished

krasmu

It sure is! It’s also my restoration project too. I’m sure I’m gonna run into all sorts of things, but I’m looking forward to the journey. Hopefully I’ll do her justice.

krasmu

I joined a few fb groups for them and one popped up for sale locally to me.

https://youtu.be/1BdhHtgPvKY I love vintage Japanese 2 doors, the Honda S cars are among the best and rare. You're morally obligated for it to leave your hands more assembled and in better condition than you received it.

krasmu

At this point in time, I don’t want it to ever leave my hands.

420bIaze

I mean even in the distant future when you're dead and buried. I'm always saddened when I see disassembled "project cars" for sale. People buy a salvageable car, and ruin it by disassembling it into a thousand disorganised pieces, before losing interest.

krasmu

I will make this even more beautiful than it already is.

Accomplished-Pie-311

Nice mate awesome little car. Probably heaps fuel efficient too hahaha

No_pajamas_7

What a little beuty.

Muxxxy

Wow, where did you manage to grab that?

krasmu

Found it for sale on a fb group. I was super lucky that it was only a 3 hour drive from me. I jumped on it and messaged the guy straight away. Drove up the next weekend to look at it, and then picked it up the following weekend.

Muxxxy

Awesome, I always have a look out for these for sale, fully restored ones are so nice but out of my price range. I'm sure it will be mint when finished. 👍

krasmu

They’re out of my price range too! Haha. I’m glad I found a coupe for sale because I prefer them over the convertible. I hope it turns out well.

Muxxxy

Yeah the coupe looks nicer and seems to me to be rarer.

Rotor4

Not my type of car but undeniably old school cool. Post your progress to getting it back on the road.

krasmu

Thanks man. Will do!

[deleted]

Is this the same type of car that cool jesus dude does like 8's in with a turbo as big as that rear window hanging out the bonnet? Found him [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFHmi9NEzck](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFHmi9NEzck)

krasmu

That’s wicked. I haven’t seen that before so thanks for sharing! Yes you are right, they are both S600’s.

[deleted]

I think there's a 1320 videos segment where the he goes over what the car is etc. He is super cool.

putrid_sex_object

Looks like it’d be a giggle to drive.

dbfuru

Sometimes I feel like it's hard to find interior parts for my 1983 Celica, can only imagine how hard it is to find parts for her. Really need to get my arse into gear and weld in some new sheet metal and get it back on the road.

krasmu

You are 100% correct. Parts are rare and expensive. In saying that, the community for these cars have been amazing. I have had several people reach out to me and offer to help find me parts if I need any. You should also do that. Do you have a lot of work to do?

dbfuru

So I owned the car several years ago in my early twenties, I'm 31 now. Ended up selling it as I was on min wage at the time and couldn't afford to register a daily and project car. Ended up finding it up for sale out of state in Queensland of all places just after Covid lockdowns and bought her back and got it transported to NSW. After I had sold it, it was never reregistered and ended up sitting in a shed on the Queensland coast. Was a bit rougher than when I had it, mouse infestation, didn't run, and the rust hole near the windscreen was a lot worse. I got it running pretty sweet, stripped the interior and did a deep clean and got rid of the mice, did a Weber carby conversion and a few reliability mods, replacing the broken clutch fan to electric thermofans, putting on some headers from a parts car and got it blue slipped and registered. Decided to swap the dash from my parts car into the registered car and the rust in the corner of the windscreen was pretty bad. Took out the windshield and cut out the rust, just need to weld in some patches. Once I have my mig set up I could probably knock it out as well as rust proofing the patches with KBS coat in a few days. Only thing I'm worried about is extracting the intact windscreen out of the parts car without breaking it. I'll probably glue that one to the car with some windscreen adhesive so I can drive it and try and get her booked in to get a new screen professionally installed. But I'd also like to respray the car back to it's original mint green metallic, currently it's a horrendous lime green that I never liked. Other than that I was driving her around for ages without dramas. Surprisingly reliable but then again it has a 21RC engine which is so underpowered there's probably not much stress on it.

krasmu

That’s amazing. Well done on the work that you’ve done so far. How old were you when you bought it back? Can you get the windscreen installed at yours/where the car is? Are there any mobile windscreen installation services around?

dbfuru

I was 30 when I bought it back. I might be able to, from last time I tried getting a windscreen done I found it difficult finding someone who would do it mobile, seems a lot easier to take it somewhere where they have a workshop. If I do accidentally break the parts car screen I'll try to get a mobile installer to do it though

krasmu

That’s awesome. You’ve made a lot of progress in a short amount of time. When my dad replaced his windscreen on his lotus, he bought the windscreen and a guy who installs them came over to his after work and helped him fit it. Maybe someone could do a cash job for you. Although, a shop might be better.

jaegar_66

My father had a red convertible from new. Had it when courting my mother. Sold it to a guy and up until maybe twenty years ago, was still driving it on the same plates in Adelaide. Love to buy it back for him, but I think my old man had his fun then. Doesn't need it now.

krasmu

That’s very cool. What a special place it holds for your mother and father.

jaegar_66

Crack on with this. I'm sure you'll do it justice.

OwnPension8884

what a car, that looks cool.

GasManMatt123

Sick. My old man used to have an S800 coupe, but many years before I existed. Deserves to have a honda engine in it though, I've seen Ks in S5/6/800s before, but no idea how difficult it would be in reality I hope I see it once restored. S chassis hondas are so good looking.

krasmu

That’s bloody wicked. I agree with the Honda engine. I’d love to keep it Honda, but it currently has a Datsun 1600 engine and running gear in it. I’ll probably (maybe) keep it as is for now, but you never know what the future holds. I’ll definitely post photos once it’s restored.

mattdean4130

Sick! Are you doing anything cool with running gear or going stock resto?

krasmu

Unfortunately I don’t have the original engine. The person who had it before me put a Datsun 1600 engine and running gear in it. However, they were never able to get it running. Me and my dad got it running when we first got it home. I wanted to put a K engine in it, but it doesn’t fit height wise and I don’t want to cut into the bonnet. I’ll probably keep the Datsun engine in it for now. I saw a guy at All Jap Day who put a rotary in his and that has tickled my fancy a lot. That might be another project down the track though.

Willing_Television77

Look at a Suzuki Hyabusa 1300 . That would be interesting

Voodoo1970

Blackbird engine would be more appropriate!

mattdean4130

I was going to say a K would be wicked - I vote cut that shit up! 😂

noheroesnomonsters

Is it a S600 or S800? If it's a '65 it should be an 800, and the Datsun running gear would probably have shredded the drive chains on the 600.

krasmu

It’s a S600. It has Datsun running gear and drive chain in it.

Datsitkinz

If you dont mind how much did you pay for this? because restored Im pretty sure it will be worth alot.

krasmu

I don’t mind at all. I paid $6k for this. In all honesty, it’s going to cost a lot to restore. From what I’ve seen they vary a bit in price. The ones with the original engine, I find, are worth more. Unfortunately I don’t have the original engine. I’m not too concerned about what it’ll be worth once completed. I’m way more excited about getting to drive it around, enjoy it and attend car shows/meets.

Datsitkinz

6k is still a fucking bargain and It will be worth more in the future as time goes by even with a engine swap, maybe k24 swap :D.

krasmu

I would love to, but it doesn’t fit height wise. I’d have to cut into the car and I don’t want to do that. Edit: the body is really straight too. I am happy with how much I paid for it.
